  1. Strange issue. All I can think of is to select Advanced Menu > Clear group cache then relog. To be honest, Clear group cache is a bit of mystery and not even Torley Linden could explain exactly what it does when asked some years ago other than saying it has to do with info in the Group Information Panel. Some residents actually use it when performance is a bit off but how it could affect performance is beyond explanation. Failing that working, you may need Linden Lab support and to get that for an issue like this, Premium membership I imagine.
  2. Thanks AdeDreamz. However you left out two important lines from the window that opens with Help > About Firestorm relating to Windows Graphics Driver version and OpenGL Support. Can you please post the full contents of the window. If you know what AMD Catalyst/Driver you're using, please mention it. Offhand I can't think why that card should not work. It's a modern card and supports OpenGL 4.2 as confirmed here http://www.amd.com/us/products/notebook/graphics/7000m/7500m-7600m/Pages/radeon-7500m-7600m.aspx#2 Is this a Dell Inspiron laptop with switchable graphics? It does seem that Firestorm is detecting the AMD card but then Firestorm is having some issues lately recognising drivers such as here http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/FIRE-11335 To confirm or eliminate the possibility of it being a Firestorm issue, try the official LL viewer and see if you can enable Lighting & Shadows on it? If you can't, then it would seem your card cannot support this option for some reason. If you can run Shadows on the LL viewer, I suggest you take the issue up with the Firestorm developers via their support system. Anyway, please post requested information and advise how you get on with the official LL viewer.
  3. It's likely your graphics card does not support Shadows. As mentioned here http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Lighting-and-shadows/ta-p/997819 Prerequisites This feature requires an OpenGL 3.0-capable graphics card, such as Nvidia GeForce 8600 and 8800, GTX 2xx, or Radeon HD 4xxxx. If your graphics card cannot support the feature, then it is disabled by default, and you cannot enable it. It's also possible your graphics card supports Shadows but you're using an old driver and need to update it. Open SL to login screen and select Help > About Firestorm. Copy/paste the computer details that appear in the window into a reply here using Options/Edit to the right of your post. Then we can advise further.
  4. When that happens, try going by a roundabout route to save relogging. When I can't teleport out of a sim to my chosen destination and it has nothing to do with any attachments, I select Smith (a Linden water sim) as my initial destination, which invariably works, and from there to my final destination.
  5. I'm not a Nvidia user but I suspect this could be a driver issue. You seem to be using the latest Nvidia driver, version 320.49, and there have been reports by a number of people on gaming forums that it is crashing games. 314.22 is suggested instead as being a reliable driver but there could be good versions in between as well.
  6. It's a well known issue that pops up every time there is a new TOS and you found the correct solution. It doesn't have to be Radegast, any other viewer to the one you're using will likely work but Radegast is a light viewer and easy to install/uninstall. Once you've accepted the TOS on any viewer, it works for all and you can then just uninstall the newly installed viewer and go back to your own.
  7. Open SL to login screen. No need to actually login. Select Help > About Second Life. Copy/paste the contents of the window that opens in to a reply here. The graphics card section will just show the card series so add in the specific model.
  8. Scroll down the whole way and then see if the box allows you tick it. If not, install another viewer, the official v3 viewer being the obvious one to install if not already using it. If that is your current viewer, install any other from the TPV list, even one of the light viewers. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory Hopefully you'll now be able to tick the box. Once the TOS is agreed to, you can uninstall the new viewer and go back to your own one.

  10. More than likely it won't work. Issues with prepaid and gift cards A common cause of payment method failure is the use of unsupported card types. At this time, the majority of prepaid cards are not compatible with our system, even if they bear the VISA/AMEX/Mastercard logo. This includes cards purchased at retail stores, rechargeable credit cards, and bank-issued check cards. However, you could try an authorised reseller but at your own risk: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Linden_Dollar_(L$)_Authorized_Reseller_Program
  11. More thoughts: There is a report from two users that some of the latest AMD drivers, namely 13.4, 13.6 and 13.8 beta are crashing Singularity so as you probably updated to a very recent driver after installing the new hard drive, I wonder if that could be your problem too. I haven't seen any other reports of this though by anyone else or with any other viewer so just speculating: http://code.google.com/p/singularity-viewer/issues/detail?id=962&colspec=ID Type Status Priority Stars Milestone Owner Summary Opened Modified I'm still using 12.10 (ATI Radeon HD 5850) with Niran's Viewer. Haven't tried Black Dragon yet until it's sorted. Even Niran says "it's a super fragile, totally broken viewer". If nothing else works, perhaps try an older Catalyst.
  12. It's possible too many accumulated notifications are causing you to crash. This is a known issue which can cause the viewer to disconnect within seconds of logging in. The solution is to delete the notifications file before logging in again as outlined here http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_install_crash Ignore the fact that this is a Firestorm help page, the same applies to any viewer so just substitute Second Life or Black Dragon for Firestorm. It could also be a HTTP Texture issue but that usually does not result in an instant crash as you describe but if the above fails to solve the issue, try disabling HTTP Textures in the Develop Menu.
  13. You joined SL on Dec 25 2012. You must have learnt something about creating a look and wearing clothes during those eight months!
  14. More information from Second Life Wikia:: Basic Account There are two different account types in Second Life that one can sign up for. The first basic account on a credit card is free, all other basic accounts put on that card are $9.95 (one time fee). Additional accounts also have a free 7-day trial during which the account can be cancelled. A basic account can enjoy the usual benefits of being a resident. However, they can not own land nor do they get a stipend. They do get a L$250 "sign up bonus" paid on first login. While basic accounts can not buy or own land they can rent land or shop space from other residents. There are also open markets where anyone is allowed to sell items for free without paying rent. Building, scripting, etc. can be done in sandboxes and creations can be saved to inventory. However, for creations to have a permanent place in-world, rent land or upgrade to a premium account and buy land. Before 5/29/06, basic accounts received a stipend of L$50 per week they logged in. This stipend was removed in hopes of deflating the rising economy. All basic accounts created before 5/29/06 still receive the stipend as they did before, but all basic accounts created after the date will not receive a stipend. Contents [show] 1 Features 2 Limitations 3 See Also 4 Links Features Able to do typical Second Life stuff such as build, script, and edit your avatar, among other things. Can also belong to groups, socialize, buy things, etc. L$250 bonus on first login. L$50 weekly stipend (for basic accounts created before 5/29/06). Limitations Can not own/buy land. Do not receive a weekly stipend (for basic accounts created after 5/29/06).
  15. Unfortunately you can't get it but your friend must have joined prior to 29th May 2006 and he has to log in at least once a week to get the stipend of L$50 for that week. From an archived post, it says the Basic Member must be Verified and I believe that means verified by a credit card not age verified. Stipend Stipends are a certain allowance of money paid weekly (on Tuesday) to residents in L$. Until May 29, 2006, Basic Accounts residents would receive L$50 per week but new basic account residents born/created after this date no longer receive a stipend. Those basic accounts that still receive a stipend are required to login at least once a week to receive the stipend for that week. Premium Accounts created before July 21st, 2006, receive a weekly allowance of L$500 and do not have to login to receive their stipend. Any Premium account created after July 21st but before November 1st receives L$400 per week, while Premium accounts created after November 1st receive a stipend of L$300 per week. Stipend Amounts The table below details what weekly stipend will be given to Basic and Premium accounts which were created within the dates specified. Account created within Basic Premium (unknown) - 2006-05-28 L$50 (*) L$500 2006-05-29 - 2006-07-20 L$0 L$500 2006-07-21 - 2006-10-31 L$0 L$400 2006-11-01 - current L$0 L$300 (*) - Per weeks on which the account is logged in. Previously, resident stipends would recieve bonuses from things like ratings (given by others) and some leader board standings (such as amount of calling cards collected).
  16. For many residents, especially females, creating, maintaining and changing their 'look' is FUN! I spent a good hour or two touring the Black Fair 2013 last night getting a load of new fashion demos to try (could have done it in half the time if the sim wasn't so laggy). I'll spend another pleasant hour trying them on tonight and making decisions on whether to buy or not. I see you're male though so one new look, one hair style and one new set of clothes may very well see you through four years of SL or even longer. :smileywink: Anyway, get loads of skin, shape, hair and fashion demos from Marketplace or in-world stores. Drag all the folders you've obtained into one main folder and call it 'New Look'. Rez any boxes you got and drag the folders into 'New Look' too then delete the boxes. Create sub-folders inside 'New Look' for Shapes, Skins, Hair, Clothes and any other category you got. All this will keep your Inventory neat and tidy while you decide. Now start trying them on and immediately trash any that you don't like. Keep any you think may be keepers or undecided on and then go back and try them again and again. Keep whittling your selections down, trashing the least liked ones, until you're left with the look you like best. Buy them. Simple
  17. Assuming she's not clicking the same phishing link all the time, she needs to run a virus scan on her computer and also use a computer login password to ensure nobody else can physically access it. She could also add a BIOS password to help prevent someone remotely accessing her computer. It's an extra password to type in when turning the computer on but added security. Is it possible someone has installed a key logger on her computer or if she is logging in to SL from a business computer, key loggers may be installed as a matter of course by the IT department. For a home computer, Malwarebytes, a free download, is one of the best available to rid your computer of any problems. Install and do a full scan initially. Keep it updated and run regularly. http://www.malwarebytes.org/
  18. I see it's in your Picks and just names. No TOS violation but why not just delete the Pick and block the people concerned?
  19. Eyebrows are painted on the skin or can be obtained as tattoos as well. I don't see how they could protrude out the back of your avatar. The old eyebrow sliders are long gone far as I know and anyway could not have caused what you're experiencing. I think this is a situation that needs a photo. Can you take one, save to your hard drive and then post here using Options/Edit to the right of your post and the tree icon to upload it. You could try a Character Test before that however: CTRL+ALT+Q to open Develop Menu Select Avatar Select Character Test Select Test Male Will reset you to a default library avatar then begin rebuilding your avatar but do it one step at a time rather than simply choosing a outfit folder and see if something is causing this effect.
  20. Why on earth would you want such a list and where is it, on your Profile? Sounds like you're into drama in a big way. Block anyone you don't want to contact you and leave it at that. To answer your question though, I can't see how it would be against the TOS unless you were giving reasons why people were on the list and those reasons breached Section 1 INTOLERANCE Community Standards https://secondlife.com/corporate/cs.php Nobody can have you banned. All anyone can do is submit an Abuse Report and Linden Lab will adjudicate.
  21. Perrie, the August issue of Custom PC (a UK magazine) contains a comprehensive 18-page test of most of the current gaming graphics cards. The cards were tested at 1920 x 1080, 2,560 x 1600 and 5,760 x 1080 and 30fps was considered the key rate to award extra points, this being the minimum for smooth gameplay. The cards were tested in real games, Crysis 3, Skyrim and Red Star Rising as well as Unigine's Valley 1.0 benchmark. SL's limited use of memory (512MB) makes it a little difficult to directly transfer these scores across as some of them are 2GB cards so they could be a little skewed in places but hope it helps. I did read a thread where the OP reported better performance in SL with a 2GB card than a 1GB one but I don't know how accurate that is. I'll just give you the percentages, which also takes value for money into consideration, and brief comments given. AMD Radeon HD 5750 1GB: 12% (Woefully underpowered and poor choice) Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 1GB: 10% (Underpowered - spend a little more on the GTX 660 for twice the speed) AMD Radeon HD 7770 1GB GHz Edition: 20% (Painfully slow and disappointing performance) Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB: 44% (Best low price GPU but that's not saying much - spend a little more on the GTX 660) AMD Radeon HD 7790 1GB: 41% (Mid way card between low and high end AMD cards but not great performance - better to opt for Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB) AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB: 56% (Comprehensively outclassed by the Nvidia GeForce 660 2GB [in actual fact about 10% less] for similar cost) Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti Boost 2GB: 67% (A weird card in Nvidia's line-up that isn't worth considering) AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB: 68% (A great card with high resolution performance that competes with overclocked versions of the GTX 660 2GB but slightly more expensive) Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB: 73% (Best value sub £200 card on the market considering price and performance but struggles at the highest resolutions) AMD Radeon 7950 3GB with Boost: 81% (Great performance across the board, capable high-end graphics card, decent value for money) Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB: 75% (Second best to the GTX 670 and HD 7950 in a similar price bracket now) AMD Radeon HD 7970 3GB GHz Edition: 84% (Fantastic performance for the money and little to separate this card and the Nvidia GTX 770 2GB, prices now about the same, slight fps edge to the Nvidia) Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 2GB: 82% (Superb card with slightly better performance to AMD HD 7950, very little in it and similar prices) Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 2GB: 80% (Ferociously quick but supplanted by the Nvidia GTX 770 2GB) Nvidia GeForce GTX 770 2GB: 83% (Slightly better performance than GTX 680 and HD 7970 - best rated card of all and a superb choice) Nvidia GeForce GTX 780 3GB: 66% (Phenomenally fast for those who want to play everything at very high resolutions but very expensive) Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan 6GB: 66% (Now a Titanic waste of money in the face of the GTX 780 with only a 10-15% benefit in performance at 5760 x 1080 when overclocked, otherwise little difference)
  22. I agree...NO. The graphics capabilities are no better than Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics. You may be able to get the machine to work but the experience would be frustrating. Look for something a lot better.
  23. Found this thread: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General/command-prompt-window-w-dialogue-at-login-if-I-close-it-I-crash/qaq-p/685014 Besides adjusting the Texture Memory slider, there is a suggestion to try running SL in XP compatibility mode if on Vista.
  24. You can use your 512 sm tier allowance for a 512 sm parcel anywhere on the mainland (you have to actually buy the parcel though, only the tier is free) but it's highly unlikely you'll find such a parcel in the middle of a mall. That just doesn't happen. Malls are owned by one individual and stores rented out not sold off.
  25. Mandy Schapira: Hi earlier i sent a message needing help here is the problem I was not able to get a screen shot so i wrote it down for you Sometimes there is more than one pop up this time it was only one Councel Opened 19:05:7 7-Aug-13 CreateRnSysmenSurface: __glNvRmAMemory64 failed 42 ______________________________________________________________ Thanks but you didn't post details of your computer or viewer as requested and I'd really like to see that information. Open the Help > About Second Life window as mentioned (no need to log inworld) and copy/paste the information into your post using Options/Edit or use Permalink as you just did. You typed the message slightly wrong with a couple of "n's" instead of "m's". It's CreateRmSysmemSurface: ___glNvRmAllocMemeory64 failed 42 Basically it means your graphics card has run out of memory and is trying to access system memory but is failing or it's not available to use. I assume you've done some research as it's usually suggested you update Java and gpu driver but I don't think that has ever fixed the problem. There was a Jira on this issue years ago..... https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9017? .....but no solution provided other than to reduce the Texture Memory slider in Preferences > Graphics > Hardware. This slider is set at a maximum of 512MB so you could try reducing this if your graphics card is only 256MB for example. Also, close down any other programs you may have running on your computer when playing Second Life. Without details of your graphics card, OS etc, it's hard to offer any other assistance. I suspect you're running Vista and an old graphics card. I recall seeing a thread not so long ago where residents were saying they were getting messages about running out of memory although not the message you are getting. I'll see if I can find it.
