  1. Well, I bet the UK is hoping the baby will arrive very soon while the weather is so good throughout the British Isles and they can have street parties in warm sunshine to celebrate the royal birth. Hello magazine undoubtedly has its entire staff on standby day and night! Won't matter if one misses the initial announcement as Sky News will broadcast it non-stop for days on end bringing in one boring royal correspondent after another to tell us how excited they are and what it will mean to the monarchy. Given the change in succession rules, for the first time, it won't matter if it's a boy or girl. Here in Ireland, obviously a far more subdued attitude but Kate is popular and I'm sure we will all watch the news and be pleased for her and William. I'm sure the Royal Baby edition of Hello will sell out too.
  2. In all my years in SL, I have never come across this and I have no idea how it could even happen with the LL viewer. Is it only occurring between the two of you and not IMs with other residents? What viewer are you using and are you both using the same viewer? (Use Options/Edit to add comments to your post) Anyway, I suggest you treat this in the same way as your accounts being compromised but will result in your accounts being on hold while LL investigates. What to do if your account is compromised Your account may have been compromised if: You can't access your account. You suddenly notice a reduced available balance on the payment source you have on file. If this happens, contact us immediately! Here's what to do: Go to the Second LIfe Help page and log in if you can. If you can't access your account, use the Forgot your login information? link on the right to recover your username and reset your password. Then log in. On the Second LIfe Help page page, click the Contact Support link on the right. On the next page, click Submit a a Support Case form. Under What type of problem are you having?, select Account Issue. A second dropdown appears. Under Account Issue, select I believe my account has been compromised. Fill in the rest of the fields as directed. Click Submit. Check your email for your case number. Call our fraud number: 800-860-6990. Once you do this, Linden Lab will place your account on hold and investigate the relevant transactions. This may take a few days. Once we have concluded the investigation, we'll send you an email explaining our conclusion and the action we will take. Note that all transactions involving Linden dollars are subject to Linden Lab's Terms of Service. Tip: Even if you are able to log into your account, we recommend that you change your password immediately to something secure and unique. Changing your password regularly is one good way to protect the safety of your account. For information on how to change your password, see the How to change your password section of this article.
  3. What graphics card do you have in your computer? Perhaps your card does not support Shadows but with some cards, you need to be in Ultra (not just High) before Shadows will become available or perhaps you are using a very old driver. Select Help > About Second Life on the login page and copy/paste the details into a reply here using Options/Edit. If the specs only give the card series, please add in the actual model if known. If it's the case that you need to be in Ultra before the LL viewer activates Shadows (as it does with my card) and you'd prefer to just use High for performance reasons, you may wish to try Nirans Viewer which uses a totally different and more flexible method of graphics level selection. Correction: Actually, with the LL viewer and my card, it's not a tick box issue, it's a visual issue in that shadows do not show until in Ultra (got up too early this morning) but let's see what card you have and if there is anything more that can be done.
  4. Would help if you could post your computer specs and describe what happens when you try to login Use Options/Edit to the right of your post to add comments. I use Windows 7 but try KarenMichelle Lane's SL on Windows 8 guide which she has posted here on Answers. "Secondlife runs very well under Windows 8. I recommend that all Windows 8 users do the following to ensure the best possible performance: All Windows 8 Users 1) Manually apply ALL the Required and Important patches for Windows 8 from Microsoft. A new Win 8 PC needs 4-5 iterations of this to get them all. The easiest way to do this is to: a) Enter Desktop Mode b) Launch Internet Explorer c) Right-click on the options area of the Browser and turn on Menu & Status Bar [and any other of the old standards you like] d) Tools / Windows Update. e) Select the CUSTOM button so you can monitor and select the downloaded options to install e) Repeat until all are DL'd and installed Note: Don't install the Bing Desktop. Also, don't install any Windows Live components unless you have an email account with Microsoft. 2) Identify the Video / Graphics system in your PC and get the Windows 8 drivers direct from the Video System manufacturer. 3) If you just performed the items 1) & 2) above, please reinstall SL again using the official version from Linden Lab. [be sure to do a clean install http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life... Here is the Windows 8 Manual System File cleanup procedure since it's not in the procedure above. Windows 8 Using File Explorer -> Libraries / Computer / ( C: ) / Users / <username> Press the Continue button to get permission to obtain permanent permission edit this directory. From the View drop-down menu option select Options & Change Folder & Search Options Select the View Tab Under the Hidden Files and Folders options click on the - O Show hidden files, folders & Drives radio button Push the Apply Button then the OK button. Open C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local and delete the contents of your Temp folder and the SecondLife folder. Uninstall Second Life using the Programs and Features tool in the Windows Control Panel. Download and install the latest release of the Second Life Viewer from http://secondlife.com/support/downloads/. You should be up and running in no time. P.S. I recommend these steps on all Windows 8 PC's and Laptops, specifically designed for Windows 8 with high-end Graphics Sub-Systems or Graphics Cards. P.S.S. - On Upgraded PC's & Laptops - If your computer was not designed specifically for Windows 7 or Windows 8 these steps may still help. There are many "Designed for Vista" PC's that don't upgrade well to Windows 8. Also, If your PC was designed for Windows XP, Windows 8 is usually NOT a viable option, practically speaking."
  5. Perrie Juran wrote: I really don't get the problems with HTTP. I thought the whole point of HTTP was to make things run smoother. Yet over the past more than a year through various updates I have gone through periods of time where having it enabled worked best and then other periods of time disabling it worked best and other periods I couldn't see any difference. It really makes one wonder what the heck is up with it. I've always had issues with HTTP Textures due to the router supplied by the ISP. Loading new textures after a teleport crashed me within a minute or so. Switching back to UDP solved it. To my surprise after installing Second Life 3.6.1 (278007) Jun 27 2013 this morning with HTTP Textures on by default, I can happily teleport around SL with no problems. Has LL done some work on HTTP Textures to avoid the troublesome routers crashing SL?
  6. Select Preferences from Me Menu Select Graphics Tab Click Advanced button to bring up the advanced graphics options If Advanced Lighting Model is not ticked by default, tick it Select Sun/Moon or Sun/Moon + Projectors from the Shadows drop down option
  7. This is a web page from the Singularity developers on the "no media plugin" issue. http://www.singularityviewer.org/kb/antivirus
  8. If I remember correctly, it sounds like your anti-virus program or firewall is blocking SLPlugin.exe, a file that is installed with the viewer. Nortons was doing this a couple of years ago but I haven't seen this issue come up for a while. So, ensure your anti-virus/firewall is not deleting or blocking SLPlugin.exe and then uninstall/reinstall the viewer or just go ahead with the uninstall/reinstall and see if you get a request to allow or block SL. You can add comments to your post via Options/Edit to the right of it.

  12. You're in the wrong section of the website for a topic such as this. Answers is for those with viewer problems and the like who need real solutions, not for silly drama. Please take this to the General Discussion area of the Forums http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/bd-p/GeneralDiscussionForum where they will quite happily tear you to shreds. Quite honestly, your naivety, arrogance and selfishness are astonishing.
  13. It's at times like this my signature line from the Kung Fu series comes into play: Caine: I seek not to know the answers, but to understand the questions. If you click Help top of the MP page, it will bring you to this page: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Shopping-in-the-Second-Life-Marketplace/ta-p/700189 ..and from there click the link for Answers, Forums, Blogs or Knowledge Base depending on where you want to go. Personally I would use tabs and open a new page from the MP link if I wanted to stay in MP and Community. If you mean something else, please use Options/Edit to add comments.
  14. I've never heard of this happening and it would be prudent to change your passwords even though you say nobody has them. Perhaps a SL glitch, perhaps something more sinister. If you or your partner has Premium membership, contact Live Chat but if Basic membership, I don't think there is any support category for this. It may seem unfair but the cost of partnering again is so miniscule, would it not be simpler just to do that?
  15. Refer to this link: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Billing/ta-p/700037#Section_.3 ...in which you will find the following statement: I can't update my payment information If your payment methods are not updating properly, it often has something to do with the bank or card issuer. Some credit card companies will automatically decline or hold for review international charges (or "online gaming" charges) as a safeguard against fraud. If you are located in the U.S., delete and re-enter your payment method. This will make it go through the domestic processor, which reduces the chances of your financial institution putting a hold on the transaction. Important: Credit and debit cards require up to 30 minutes to update in our system. Even if you receive the message “your payment information has been successfully updated,” you must still wait up to 30 minutes before attempting purchases. If you're having trouble getting a payment method to update: If you have waited at least 30 minutes and have attempted several transactions that failed or information is still pending update, delete and re-enter your billing information or try an alternate method of payment (credit or debit card). To do this:Go to Your Dashboard. Click Account. Click Billing Information. Update your billing information then click Submit. If the update is sucessful, you will see the message "Your information has been successfully updated". Wait 30 minutes to get approval from your payment processor. After the second attempt, if transactions are still failing or information is still pending update, contact your credit or debit card issuer:Ask to speak directly to the risk and security department. Explain that you wish to authorize your card for charges from Linden Research and Second Life. While on the phone, clear and re-enter your billing information. The bank or card issuer should then see (and approve) a $1 verification charge; which will be refunded. If you are still unable to complete a transaction after following the above steps, contact Linden Lab billing support as explained above. Contacting Linden Lab billing support If you have a non-technical issue related to billing concerns, you can call the Linden Lab billing team at the following toll-free numbers: US/Canada: 800-294-1067 France: 0805-101-490 Germany: 0800-664-5510 Japan: 0066-33-132-830 Portugal: 800-814-450 Spain: 800-300-560 UK: 0800-048-4646 Brazil: 0800-762-1132 Long distance (not free): 703-286-6277 Billing Support is available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week in the US, UK, and Canada and 7 days a week in all other countries listed above.
  16. This is a known bug. Try a clean install as per this link: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231 If that fails and you're using the LL viewer, install another viewer such as Firestorm and log in with it. If you're using a TPV then install the LL viewer. Once the issue is resolved, you can go back to your normal viewer: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory
  17. This is last year's thread on the same topic. Maybe we should just repost it every year about May/June. :smileywink: http://208.74.205.111/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/Where-is-the-Brief-notice-from-Linden-Labs/td-p/1471439/highlight/true Those of us long enough in SL know these rumours go viral through the groups every so often
  18. That's great Nventris! Glad it's now fixed for you.
  19. Would help if you could explain the problem in more detail. You can do this by adding comments via Options/Edit to the right of your post. There was a bug causing residents entire inventory appearing to be worn as detailed in this thread and JIRA. Is this what you mean? http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/No-Support-for-Current-Entire-Inventory-attached-on-Login-Issue/td-p/1376257 https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-28494? I saw one simple solution where the resident solved it via a character test (Develop Menu > Avatar > Character Test > Test female or male) but it was more complicated for others.
  20. Jenni Darkwatch wrote: AFAIK "Moles" are not always LL employees Moles are in fact 'contractors' (all skilled content creators) engaged by the DPW from the resident pool and are not Lab employees. They are paid an hourly rate. A very limited number of their creations such as road surfaces are available to other residents at the Mole Mart on Leafminer. A few years ago, I saw a rezzed Mole building I really liked and wanted to use for my shop so sent an IM to the Mole who created it asking was it possible to get a copy. He very kindly told me where I could get a full perm version which was a rather obscurely placed vendor under the monorail station at Port of Karma City on Mosh. Took me a while to locate it but various buildings and some Zindra textures were available there. I'm sure there are other places too.
  21. Best to ask Bloodlines support using contacts here http://www.slbloodlines.com/contact
  22. Hi ZoeRose, Just other residents here, Linden Lab employees rarely if ever comment on Answers or the Forums. There are existing threads about this issue on the Forums, e.g. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Merchants/non-payment-of-a-confirmed-delivery-of-a-product/td-p/2067131 so have a read of it and look for other threads too as I have seen this mentioned a few times by merchants.
  23. 1. You must be in-world to do this so log in with the account that has the money to be paid over. 2. Right click the alternative account's name in your Friend's List, select Pay and pay over the money. 3. If not on Friend's List for some reason, use Search to find the account, then select Profile, click the gear wheel top right and select Pay.
  24. It's easy to check when you bought an in-world item, just right click it in Inventory, select Properties and look at its acquisition date in Item Profile. Perhaps that would suffice but if not and you need proof of purchase, that's another matter, you need to have been saving the Transaction History file every month or at least for the month in question. I used to do that but have been somewhat remiss the past while and there is no other way to recover the information.
