  1. Hi Ailel, It may be as simple as restarting your router. Unplug it for a few minutes then reconnect. Restart your computer and then attempt to log in again. If that doesn't work, other login failures are discussed here so have a read and try the solutions mentioned. They apply to all viewers not just Phoenix/Firestorm. http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/login_fail You can add comments to your post using Options/Edit to the upper right of it.
  2. Rent land from another land-owning resident. Refer to this link on how to do this. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Renting-land-from-other-Residents/ta-p/1420695
  3. @Val. Myfanwy isn't trying to use SL and locate her home on an iPad. That's what she used to apply for her home on the website. She has now found her Dashboard and presumably her house as well. Refer to the Permalink attached to my post in link below. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Everything-Else/I-just-got-a-new-Linden-home-in-Redanio-but-as-I-did-it-on-my/qaq-p/2174399/comment-id/9842#M9842
  4. Hi Steven, This is my system: Second Life 3.6.4 (280048) Aug 19 2013 21:45:32 (Second Life Release) Release Notes CPU: Intel® Core i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz (3911.02 MHz) Memory: 4087 MB (Quad core Lynnfield - 4.1GHz OC) OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601) Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series (5850) Windows Graphics Driver Version: 8.17.0010.1151 OpenGL Version: 4.2.11931 Compatibility Profile Context I can go around SL in Ultra with Deferred Rendering and Ambient Occlusion enabled and that's using wireless on a very slow speed of just 2.5Mbps at the moment due to my unhelpful ISP. I've never ever seen the message about textures discarded due to insufficient memory and I'm not crashing. I was getting 38 FPS on Dance Island on those graphics settings with 27 avatars in the sim. Moved and cammed around for over an hour and no issues at all. No problem using Niran's Black Dragon either on same graphics settings, although a lower FPS with 36 avatars on sim (Niran's has been my preferred viewer for ages but lacks full SSA/SSB support so now trying his Black Dragon viewer, which is based on LL's v3 - kind of still in beta though). I've not interested in the slow resource hogging Firestorm but I may try Singularity and see how it goes. You have dual Quad Xeon, 16GB RAM and the same graphics card series as mine, although the next model up, so why can't you use Ultra or even high without crashing. I wish I had an explanation but I don't. Some residents seem to be badly affected, most using Firestorm it seems but other viewers too as you say. Some, as I am aware from other threads, say the latest v3 has a serious memory leak causing crashes after as little as 15 seconds to a few minutes in busy sims but I'm not seeing that. I've no answer. PS. Having said all that and tempting fate, I'll probably start crashing all the time now!
  5. That's great! Enjoy your Linden Home. If you need help with anything to do with it, just ask. I have one myself for years. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Linden-Homes/ta-p/700103
  6. Sorry but there is nothing anyone can do to help you recover your Lindens. I assume from what you say your ex physically accessed your computer and you caught him on it. Does he know your SL password or do you have your password saved and all he had to do was open the application and log in as you? Either way, it was poor security. You're lucky he didn't do more than just buy a few hair styles, e.g. change your password and email address or use your account to buy Lindens if linked to a credit card or Paypal. I hope you changed your password soon as you caught him and don't have it saved anymore and certainly don't let anyone else know what it is. Also, you should have your computer secured by a password so nobody can log in to your user account.
  7. Sure, no problem. I'll test with Niran's Black Dragon too, which I use as well. It's based on Linden Lab's latest viewers.
  8. TDD123 wrote: Your system is fine. Do not adjust. Second Life 3.6.4 (280048) is, mildly put, plainly awful. Memory leakage is out of control. This viewer needs to be dumped asap. I expect viewer updates to arrive soon, if LL acknowledges this issue before people stop using it altogether. How can you say the system is fine while Iceing is using the bugged Nvidia driver 320.49, which is known to have a memory leak and other bugs? Unfortunately, he can't go back to 314.22 as his card is too new so no way to tell if it's the viewer or driver in his case. Edit: I read what you say in the other thread so maybe some people are being affected more than others using this viewer but Iceing has no shortage of memory and has a fantastic system.
  9. TDD123 wrote: I consider you one of the very happy very very VERY few regarding this weekend or since the viewer update to 3.6.4 (280048) then. :robotindifferent: Actually I'm not happy at all but it's not the viewer causing the unhappiness, it's my ISP. My speed has been slowly decreasing the past few weeks and is now down to 2.5MB/sec download and 0.42MB/sec upload and they won't do anything. Hope to get fibre power broadband soon though. Also, due to an unrelated issue, I've had to switch from my Cat 6 Ethernet cable to wireless. Tried wall-plugged Ethernet extenders but a disaster. Nevertheless, I still can enjoy SL a much as ever. Anyway, I logged in an hour ago on the latest LL viewer to test it again. At my home sim, usage was about 500,000K initially so I teleported off to Dance Island, always a busy sim 24/7. That went smoothly. Texture and avatar rezzing was fine, mesh clothes a little slow on a few avatars but that's normal in busy sims. I'm on Ultra with full Deferred Rendering and Ambient Occlusion enabled and a FPS of 38 at Dance Island. I moved and cammed around for some 30 minutes or so. Memory usage climbed to a maximum of about 1,035,000K and I couldn't get it to go any higher. Viewer was rock solid, no crashing, no lag, no messages about texture memory and bear in mind I'm on a low speed wireless connection. There were 26 avatars in the sim as you can see from attached screen shot. Left myself logged in for another 20 minutes or so and I see usage is now 1.047,000K but the number of avatars has increased to 33. Teleported around a bit after. So, an hour later, still no lag, no texture memory messages, teleports smooth, no crashes. Having said all that, I seem to recall my usual memory usage was around 800,000K but I haven't checked Task Manager while in SL for a very long time.
  10. Good, seems best to stick with 314.22 until Nvidia sorts its driver out. I read in one gaming forum that the latest beta has similar bugs. I don't know who is responsible for the issues you mention but I can stay on for hours without experiencing memory leakage, rezzing or teleport problems (last night's unscheduled maintenance being an exception with avatar rezzing). Yes, sometimes I crash but no more than I have ever done over the past number of years. I've a 1GB card and only 4GB RAM so I would quickly run out of memory if I had a memory leakage issue but I'm not seeing that. I even had to resort to a wireless connection this week and it's working well. Perhaps Firestorm has more issues than other viewers. On the OP's problem, we can't really add anything until he comes back with more information.
  11. TDD123 wrote: Not agreeing .. since latest viewer updates memory leakage has made it impossible to stop viewers from crashing after a short while. Not the OP's fault. Happens to me all the time now since a week. No fun in starting viewer at all. Graphical glitches, stalls and crashes. Cannot TP to visit concerts or other gatherings without crashing while rezzing. This weekend as the worst days so far. Jessica Lyon kinda had a foresight to this at a Firestorm meeting : LL is making bold moves in graphical adjustments and things might break. Hoshi is right . It's an absolute mess now and we'll have to wait until LL resolves this. They're rearranging server software and the clients will have to sit this one out. I expect viewer updates to arrive soon. Also, the latest Nvidia driver 320.49 is very buggy as commented on in gaming forums and is known to have a memory leak problem. Coby Foden mentioned in another thread that she has reduced her crash rate significantly since reverting to 314.22. You're talking about a different thing to the OP. The OP's computer is crashing, not just the viewer and that is almost certainly a hardware issue such as overheating. Apart from last night's problems now resolved, I haven't noticed any of the issues you mention while using the latest LL viewer or Niran's viewer but I have a good ATI card and don't use Firestorm. :smileywink: Hoshi's latest buzz word is 'shill'. He must have just discovered it as he used it in another thread last night as well.
  12. Hi Sidofox, It's easy to overlook things. When my computer began to sound like a jet engine and overheating, I eventually discovered I'd forgotten about the water cooler fan filter, which was hidden from sight, and it was so clogged up with dust the cooler was not working very well. I'd even replaced the thermal compound by this time in an effort to solve the overheating. Simply replacing the thermal paste may very well be enough to solve your overheating problem. All the paste does is create an airtight seal between the processor and cooler plates so there is full contact and heat transfer. Once you break the seal or the compound has cured too hard over time, it will no longer be able to conduct heat well, so you have to start over with clean surfaces and fresh compound. It's an easy procedure to replace the thermal compound and will only cost about 10 Euro or so. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/333968-28-thermal-paste-removal-installation-guide
  13. Few would disagree with you but it's not going to be changed so you'll just have to live with it and use Display Names if you want a first and last name. Linden Lab Linden Lab management does not read Answers anyway. Send them a letter instead.
  14. Unscheduled System Maintenance as Theresa said. The white cloud can take ages to rez and even then the avatar is likely to be all grey. Rebaking is useless at the moment for this but try selecting Edit my Shape. That instantly rezzed me to normal from all grey.

Unscheduled System Maintenance Posted by Status Desk on September 1st, 2013 at 12:06 pm PDT [Posted 12:05 PM PDT, 01 September 2013] We are investigating network issues which are causing multiple errors throughout the system. During this time, some residents may be logged off and may be temporarily unable to log in for a brief period or may experience other losses in functionality. Please refrain from rezzing no copy objects or making inworld L$ transactions while this maintenance is in progress. Please check back here for updates. http://status.secondlifegrid.net/
  16. Nalates Urriah wrote: I find my copy of 280048 seems to be using more memory than previous versions. I see memory going up and coming down. On my Win7. I am using about 1.1gb. Check the other components of your system. When you don't give us computer specs from the viewer's Help->About... we can only make wild guesses at to what's wrong. So, you may be doing a clean install for no reason. NVidia and ATI drivers are known to have problems. I'm running on 320.49, the latest stable release. 320.49 seems to be quite a buggy driver going by comments on game forums such as here http://pcabusers.org/forums/showthread.php?p=335463 but you may be on to something if the OP is using 320.49 as there is reference to it being the cause of a memory leak http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3173759
  17. Unfortunately, there is no way to retrieve chat and IMs if you have deleted them from your computer. If you need some important information and you don't mind asking the other party to a particular conversation, perhaps he/she could send you a copy of the IM text file.

  19. 20. Yes, there are serious problems in-world at the moment. The white cloud can take ages to rez and even then the avatar is likely to be all grey. Rebaking is useless but try selecting Edit my Shape. That instantly rezzed me to normal.
  21. Open Second Life to login screen > select Help > About Second Life then copy/paste the contents of the window that opens into a reply here. Add in the exact model of graphics card as the details will likely just show the card series. Shutting down like that could be overheating of your computer hardware and it's closing down to protect it from damage. To check that, install a hardware monitor such as Open Hardware Monitor http://openhardwaremonitor.org/ and run it while in Second Life. Check if the CPU and GPU temperatures are within safe operating temperatures (you can Google what they should be) or running way too hot. When did you last clean the inside of your computer including fans of accumulated dust? Could also be the thermal paste on your CPU heat sink is not working as well as it once did and needs redoing. Second Life stresses computers far more than most games. Try reducing your graphics level in Preferences > Graphics and lower your draw distance, say to 64m.
  22. Hi Mizziii, Please supply details of your laptop and what viewer you are using. If you can open SL to login screen (not sure if you can with that message) select Help > About Second Life and copy / paste the contents of the window into your post using Options/Edit.
  23. Try a clean install. http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/How-to-uninstall-and-reinstall-Second-Life/ta-p/1375231 If still experiencing a memory leak, open a new JIRA. You could also use another viewer of course and see if ok with it. You may like to read this thread too and a solution for a previous memory leak: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Viewer/How-to-fix-memory-leak-crashes/td-p/1689161
  24. You're very welcome. Glad it worked for you! Você é muito bem-vindos. Fico feliz que funcionou para você!
  25. Hi Myfanwy, Your Dashboard > Land Manager > My Mainland will give the exact location of your chosen Linden Home. You should also have received an email with its location...or do you mean you can't log in or teleport there? As a Premium member you can of course use Live Chat if experiencing issues with your Linden Home. You can add comments using Options/Edit to the upper right of your post.
