  1. At work now, but I'll take pics and show mine tonight.
  2. I will fill one of those 5 newly empty slots for you! I've been planning to send you a friend request but was just waiting for word that you had actually finally made it back in-world. Now that you are, I'll get right on it tonight!
  3. I just received a group notice about a Relay For Life fundraiser event tonight. Thought I'd post it here in case anyone is interested in attending. I don't have the SLURL handy since I'm at work. Will come back and post it later. ************************* Group Notice From: Flying Armadillo & Texas Patio Good morning Dillos! Just a reminder that tonight at 7 p.m. SLT we have a special RELAY FOR LIFE LIVE EVENT - Popular singer Wytchwhisper Sadofsky will perform for us and donate all tips will go to the SL RELAY FOR LIFE project . Please come and join us for this awesome cause and help us make a difference in finding a cure for Cancer!! This notice has an attachment.
  4. I love it! It's appropriate; my sister did one threaten to buy me a pocket protector for Christmas. :smileysurprised:
  5. 10 pm SLT is past my bedtime. Hopefully I'll catch you sometime soon on an earlier performance.
  6. I could reflect forever on love, relationships, friendships, loyalty, etc., and a song with lyrics such as this one make me ponder exactly those sorts of things. Maybe later when I have a bit more time to collect my rambling musings in writing, I'll share it here. In the meantime, this is a great song and a fantastic piece of history. Thanks, Dillon!
  7. Wow, now I can really be a well-rounded geek, celebrating Pi Day today and National Punctuation Day on September 24. /me is happily embracing her inner nerd.
  8. It seems that a big part of the problem is that new users aren't initially aware of Display Names at all. If LL is set on keeping this new naming system, new users should at least be required to create a Display Name (in addition to username) at signup.
  9. Carole Franizzi wrote: Me again... Just spotted a locked thread (title something like "Generally Entertaining"), authored by Derek (I think) - uhm...wondering if I'm getting the drift...nothing non-SL is permitted? Am I understanding correctly? Even in the off-topic catgory? So basically (if I haven't got hold of the wrong end of the stick, of course), if we supply free publicity for SL by showing how wonderful it is or free customer service through question-answering for fellow SLers, that's okay. If we waste space talking about non-SL stuff, we get shut up? Please tell me I'm wrong. Residents have created just about all of SL content and many of us have paid for the honour of doing so, now we have to choose our words according to LL's market plan? Tell me I'm wrong. If I'm not, spam really is the smallest of the issues to hand and we've already given up much, much more important things. Hi Carole, it's good to see you back. Sadly, you've stumbled onto the very reason behind the observation you made a couple of posts up about old faces disappearing. Many familiar names have been scarce since the new forum came online. Only time will tell if that's a permanent change around here.
  10. This happened to me last week, too. Somehow I managed to turn of the "send IMs to email" option in my viewer preferences. I have no idea how it happened since I don't even remember being on that tab in preferences recently. I had to go searching to even find the option to re-enable it, but once I did, all works fine again.
  11. I have just changed my sig (again). Just a little quote I happen to like and that fits my philosophy about life.
  12. I initially joined for work to explore whether SL might be a viable vehicle for employee job training, and I stayed because I was personally fascinated by the beauty of SL. I eventually created Quinn to distinguish my personal time in-world from my work time.
  13. Mags Indigo wrote: Great story Quinn, somehow though I'd love to scratch beneath that self effacing surface and see what pops up - as it were. /me coughs - I mean that in a purely intellectual way. :smileyindifferent: Just skimming over this thread and realizing that I never replied to this post before the lock. Mags, you are welcome to scratch beneath the surface any time. :smileyhappy:
  14. Wish I could have made it last night. All my plans for the evening went completely awry. So sorry! :smileysad:
  15. Good morning to all! I love the hippie Homer, Valerie. :smileyhappy:
  16. Deltango Vale wrote: I think the climate just changed. The thread has been reopened :smileyhappy: Yes, and I'm cautiously optimistic that it will stay open this time. Also, I browsed the "Community Tools User Group" transcript from yesterday's meeting and saw the following, which is promising as it relates to AR griefing. It looks like they're aware of and prepared to address the problem. [13:44] Amanda Linden: many folks walk a fine line re: teh community guidelines. [13:44] Amanda Linden: and, we've had some "report abuse" flame wars for content that was fine. [13:44] Amanda Linden: so, that's gonna end. There is a lot of other good info in there, too. It really does appear that LL is listening and working to address some of the complaints about the new forum.

I hope you don't mind, but I have pulled this into the OP of the newly revived "Strengthening the SL Community" thread, which has been unlocked and granted a reprieve! I don't mind at all it is community property now. Here is The Link to Quinn's Thread. Correction. It is now known as The Forum's Thread. :smileyhappy:
  18. Thank you so very much, Keli. I hope you don't mind, but I have pulled this into the OP of the newly revived "Strengthening the SL Community" thread, which has been unlocked and granted a reprieve!
  19. Ladies and gentlemen, this thread is back in business! I respectfully BEG everyone to do as Genn Moderator requests and keep posts here on topic so that it can continue to thrive. I am going to modify the OP to bring in the OP from the original thread so that newcomers here can understand what it's all about without having to click back to the archives (unless they want to). Thank you, Genn Moderator. A million public thank yous!
  20. What time? I have some RL stuff to attend to tonight, but will try to make it if at all possible!
  21. Keli, if it's possible, I would really love to have an "I Community" rank. I was thinking that it could be something along the lines of a group of the bowling pin thingies (a community) with a heart on the chest of the lead pin. I don't have the graphic skills to pull it off though. Pretty please can you do it? ETA: And the group of pins definitely need to be different colors to reflect the diversity of the community!
  22. Cato Badger wrote: @Quinn: Might I suggest that even if you don't positively promote it now (when the culture of the forums is in its honeymoon period and pretty unstable) you might reconsider picking it up agani at some point when the comunity has matured. It's a good suggestion, Cato. If the climate becomes conducive to supporting such a thread again, I'll certainly consider it... or at least some variation of it.
  23. Dillon Levenque wrote: Quinn, I got your message regarding this, so you already know my opinion but for my other friends here (current and future) I completely understand and support the decision. And in fact it is probably for the best. The one in the archives is there. The new one may or may not have gone on, but you're right: it was meant to be a shared hearth, not a shared battleground. I am quite glad this thread got started regardless of how it affected 'Strengthening'. As has been pointed out, the negativity that brought everything out in the open had the effect of making more friendships. You can't argue with that. And I also think it helped to make certain actions and attitudes on the part of certain people perfectly clear. I like the idea of a shared hearth. That's exactly what it was, isn't it? Thanks for giving me all of us that cozy visual. I too am glad Deltango started this thread. I saw Genn Moderator post the following in another thread earlier: "I've removed all off-topic posts from this thread. Please keep this thread on topic so that we can keep it open." This is a better solution (and less punishing to those who follow the rules) than locking a thread that strays off topic. This gives me hope that the moderators are reading threads like this one and listening.

  25. Cato Badger wrote: @Dee: I really don't want to fight about it, but with a degree of inside knowledge I disagree with your perception that it was malice that got Quinn's Strengthening the Community thread moved from Friends to Off Topic. My understanding was that initially Quinn wanted to restart the thread in the then non-existent GD, and put it in the Friends subforum as the next best place. I will take responsibility for mentioning this to Lexie as well as my opinion that I thought that some of the public and personal disclosures would be better made out of the eye of the general public, once the "for registered members only" Off Topic subforum was opened by Lexie for us. If you think that was meddling, then I won't complain, as you would be right, but please don't think that the suggestion was made to Lexie with anything but the best of intentions - and of course, Lexie need not have acted upon it if she had not agreed. Cato Cato, I really appreciate your candidness in acknowledging that you suggested the move of the thread in question to the Off Topic forum. Your point above that I have highlighted is a point that has occurred to me as well, and is exactly why I didn't object to the thread having been moved. Although the original thread to which it links is still publicly visible in the old forum archives. As for the future of the thread, I know it has many supporters here, so it's with a very heavy heart that I have made a decision not to attempt to restart it again. I'd prefer to let it live in happy memory of all the wonderful things it has accomplished, rather than see it limp along or become a battleground in the new forum. It's hard to let it go because it has personal significance for me as a result of some wonderful friendships that have developed. But the friendships will remain, and there will be other threads. Perhaps it's time to let some new topics shine.
