This isn't an ARable offence, LL wouldn't action it. It might be, if the suspected fraudster was taking advantage of the charity/edu discount for sim tier by using fake documentation. Otherwise you're SOL. I don't think even regulatory bodies in the RL region of the potential fraudster would investigate. You can't realistically protect gullible idiots from themselves in SL or anywhere else online. Extending Freya's point a bit---in many (most?) states in the U.S. you don't need any credentials to provide counseling services. Certain terms, such as "Psychologist" are legally protected, but most are not. A storefront and a sign are all that is required. When I was little, there was a shop in town advertising "Tarot Reading, Marriage Counseling and Scented Candles". I'd have gone inside, but those candles give me headaches. There's a "Psychic Readings Marriage Counselor" in Alexandria Virginia. She's probably been advising the Pentagon and Congress for decades. ;-)
  2. Hi Tony, The consensus in the forums (not that we ever really agree on anything) seems to be that you want a computer with an nVIDIA graphics processor (GPU). You've are already experiencing SL through Intel integrated graphics. Though your PC should not be crashing, you'll never get Intel integrated graphics to run on "Ultra". Here's a web page that gives benchmark information for various GPUs... http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php And here's nVIDIA's GeForce Product page... http://www.geforce.com/hardware If you click on a particular GPU chip, you'll be taken to a page on which there's a link to a list of computers that use that chip. Here's the page for the GT 650m... http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-650m And if you click "See all >" in the "Notebooks" box, you'll get this list of computers from various manufacturers that feature that chip... http://www.geforce.com//hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-650m/buy-online Several forumites have recently purchased new computers, you might ask your question again over in General Discussion, but get ready for a long-winded and potentially contentious discussion. That's what we do over there ;-) Good luck!
  3. Hi Romero, I recall someone else having this problem long ago. Unfortunately I don't recall a solution. Have you tried issuing a partner request in the other direction? ETA: Have you checked here?... https://secondlife.com/my/account/partners.php?lang=en-US If you don't see a partnership request there, perhaps your partner to be can send another.
  4. Sims are flat, Tryad. The problem with simulating the look you describe is that most of the SL ocean isn't really there. By that I mean there is no simulator under it upon which you might hope to rez something. I once lived on a remote tropical island, surrounded by ocean. Although that ocean extended as far as my draw distance would allow, I could only rez objects at most a few meters out into the water because that's where the sim ended. If you are on a private island, you could craft a long invisible stick with a picture nailed to the end of it (a small alpha image of a ship or oil rig) and place that at the edge of your sim. That would allow you to hang the picture out in the water far from shore. Don't try that if your sim is surrounded by others, as you're likely to get AR'ed for encroachment.

  6. LordTalon, there is nothing you can put in your profile that overrides the ToS. People may believe otherwise, but the facts are the facts. We all agreed to the ToS as a condition of joining and logging in. That said, the ToS does not prevent disclosing private conversations outside of LL properties.
  7. Arton, I think I've discovered why I don't get any patients. I seem to have forgot there are no Linden pennies. And a 20 hour session with me is probably more than anyone can bear.
  8. Hi Russ, The edit window may be shoved way over in a corner behind something else, like the camera control window. Close all the other windows and see if it's lurking behind one of them. If not, trying wearing any HUD object. Right click on it, then select "Edit" and zoom out. That may bring the edit window back into view. Window positions are stored in a settings file that's in the same directory as your log files, chat text, etc. On a Mac, those are in Library/Application Support/Second Life (or whatever viewer you use)/user name/settings_per_account.xml. On a PC, a file like that will probably reside in the the AppData folder for your viewer (I'm not PC savvy, so pardon any error in my suggestion). If you delete that setting files, the next time you log in, the viewer will use default window positions. If this doesn't work, come back and tell us by editing your question rather than posting a new one. This will keep all attempts to help you in one place and will avoid bumping other questions off the page. Good luck!
  9. I'm sorry you wish to leave, Rox. You needn't actually withdraw, you can just walk away. But if you wish to close your account, you can do so by logging into the website and clicking "Account" in the upper left of the page. That'll drop down a list of account tools, including "Delete Account" near the bottom of the list. Click the big red button there and you're done. If you have a substantial Linden balance in your account, you may wish to cash that out before leaving. You'll need a PayPal account to do that, and it will take up to a week to clear the transfer. Instructions for doing so are here... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Account-balance/ta-p/700015#Section_.2.2 Should you change your mind after leaving, it'll cost $9.99 to re-instate the account. For this reason, I advise just walking away. If you never come back, you never come back. If you change your mind, you've saved yourself $10. That said, if you're as weak willed as I am, that $10 penalty can be your friend. Good luck! Maddy
  10. I'll stop over soon. Maybe I'll catch Perrie in the telescope, taking a shower!
  11. And while you are changing all your landmarks, curse LL under your breath like the rest of us do! This would have been such an easy and useful feature to implement.

  13. Hi Geert, Others have had this problem. Their solution seems to have been to do a clean install of the latest version of the official SL viewer. Here are the links to those reports... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/Can-t-log-in-get-this-message-quot-Login-failed-Updating-friends/qaq-p/2063273 http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/can-not-log-in-says-updating-friends-list-log-in-failed/qaq-p/1430207 Good luck!
  14. Ooooowwwwwoooooo! It's Friday the 13th. This is almost as good as a Monday! If only there were a full moon... Good morning, Kids!!!
  15. Are you saying that sometimes your laptop works fine? If so, and if you are running via wi-fi, it could be a connection quality issue. SL is pretty fussy about that. Try orienting your laptop for a better signal, get closer to the router, or go wired. If you normally use another computer and only the laptop shows grey avi's, and does so all the time, it may be that you're running an older version of the viewer that does not support the new Server Side Appearance function. Update your viewer to a version that does.
  16. Rolig, it's not necessary to authorize applications from "Anywhere". I've got my Mac set to "Mac App Store and identified developers" and when I download an SL viewer and try to launch it by double clicking, I'll get a permissions warning and it won't run. But if I right click on it and select "Open" rather than double clicking, I get a permission request dialog from the OS, requiring my username and password. If I grant permission, from that point on, the app is allowed to run. The only reason to select "Anywhere" is if you don't want to go through that initial permissions grant on first launching an unknown app. Ticking "Anywhere" increases the chances you'll accidentally launch a Trojan. Most of those are .exe files for PCs, so the risk is low, but I'd rather not open any more doors than necessary.
  17. I'll second Rolig's advice. Years ago I started having stutter/shutdown problems with the viewer. I opened up my laptop and discovered that one of the fans was stalled by a cute li'l bundle of fuzz. I blew that out and everything returned to normal. In most modern PCs, the OS will throttle the CPU/GPU to maintain safe temperatures. If the cooling system is compromised, the OS will just keep cutting GPU speed until the viewer breaks, and that break will often be in the form of either an application crash or outright OS crash.
  18. Esther, there's an "Options" link in the upper right of each post. Click on that and you'll see "Edit" as one of the options. Select that and you'll be presented with your original post, which can then be edited. As Rolig says, voice chat failure is often DNS related, although it could also be that your microphone isn't enabled. In the "Sound" control panel, make sure you've set the "Input" device to "Internal Microphone", unless you are using an external USB mic. If that's the case, select it from the list.
  19. Esther, are you not getting any sound at all, or is this problem only for things like music or voice chat? Other applications work fine? Esther, edit your question to reply, rather than creating a new post. This will keep the entire conversation in one place and not bump other questions off the table. (Rolig, Macs don't have .exe files. The "Security & Privacy" Preference Panel controls restrictions on App launch. You can restrict to applications downloaded from: Mac App Store Mac App Store and identified developers Anywhere You can choose to override the restriction by right clicking on an app and "Open"ing it instead of double clicking it. You'll get a dialog asking permission. Once given, that app is greenlighted for future launches. There is no fine grain control over permissions to pieces of an application, like audio. It's all or nothing. If Esther is able to launch SL, sound should work.)

Trin, if I explained it in French, then I wouldn't understand it. You're silly. You explained it in English and I didn't get it. I guess I have to watch more episodes of "The Big Bang Theory"... And as for those keys, Maddy...I still need them back. Been locked out of the house for four days now and I think I left the gas on... :matte-motes-sunglasses-3: To paraphrase Richard Feynman... If you can explain Quantum Mechanics, you don't understand it. I just tried to explain a bit of it. What does that tell you? Here are your keys. It'll be dark by the time you get home, so take my kerosene lantern. No need to thank me, my pleasure. ;-)
  22. When I'm having trouble with "jumpy" motion while editing, it's usually because I'm staring nearly into one of the axes. Try camming to the left or right, so you get a better view of all three sets of axis arrows. Disable camera constraints (in the Advanced menu) if you are not able to get close enough. The view I see is from pretty far away, making it difficult to get precise alignment. And, if you're a coffee drinker, try decaf! ;-)
