  1. And this problem persists on other viewers? Have you tried logging in with the latest LL V3 viewer?

  3. Well, that's a bit of progress. Have you done the full avatar character test? I linked to the instructions in a previous post. Here they are again... http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Tourmaline_Falken/The_Ultimate_Multi-Bug_Fix
  4. Have you tried logging into another sim, or teleporting somewhere else? If the offending object is rezzed on the simulator where you are logging in, going somewhere else should stop it.

The other items, particularly the glasses, watch and bracelets should come off if you select "Detach All" while right clicking your avatar. Aethelwine asked about RLV, which is a facility of some third party viewers that may prevent removal of attached items. It does not seem that this would be your issue if you have never heard of RLV, as that's something you must enable. I think Aeth may have recommended doing an avatar character test, which clears everything off your avatar. Instructions for doing that can be found here... http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/User:Tourmaline_Falken/The_Ultimate_Multi-Bug_Fix If your problems are caused by something on the simulator where you are logging in, change your login location. You can do that by selecting "Type Region Name" from the "Start at" text box in the viewer's log-in screen. Then enter the name of a simulator like "Pooley". If everything behave on Pooley, the trouble is probably something rezzed where you have been logging in.
  6. Tokilo, did you try any of the things recommended to you in the Answers forum?
  7. Hi Tokilo, If something is "coming back", that means it is rezzed in-world, either as an attachment you are wearing, or as an object rezzed on space where you have build permission, such as a home you might rent. Removing it from inventory will not make it go away, as the live object is still either on your body, or on your sim. If these things keep showing up in your inventory, it's possible that an attachment you are wearing is rezzing things in places with auto-return, and the returned objects then end up in your Lost and Found folder. First, let's presume you are wearing the offending object. Right click on your avatar and select "Detach All". If that fixes the problem, then something you were wearing was rezzing the objects. Be careful about what you re-attach. It will be useful to take a quick look at what you are wearing before you detach all, so you have a smaller list of suspects. You can see what attachments you are wearing by opening the "Appearance" window and selecting the "Wearing" tab. Attachments will have a little box icon to their left, and only attachments can create the problem you are describing. If that doesn't work, you'll have to search the area where the new objects are being rezzed for the thing that's creating them. You can use the viewer's "Area Search" function (near the bottom of the "World" menu). You can narrow the search using the "Filter" tab, using your name in the "Owner" field. Look for anything suspicious. Only scripted objects/attachments can create things in-world, so you can also enable "Beacons" and look for scripted objects. You'll find this in "World->Show More->Beacons". Check "Scripted" in that window, and maybe set the Width to 3 to make the beacons a bit easier to find. This will cause all scripted objects within view to have red lines sticking out of them. This will make it easier for you to hunt down the offending object. When you find it, delete it. Good luck!!!

A friend of mine rescued a chippy years ago and raised it in a terrarium. She let it loose once and it immediately vanished. I was over visiting later that day when I heard screaming from their bathroom. The little devil had crawled into the core of the toilet paper roll hanging on the wall and was terrorizing her daughter. Nature is the greatest show on Earth.

  11. Czari Zenovka wrote: Oh gosh...that couple was persistent!!!! Too funny! Re: are there orbs that only work when the owner is on the sim - Orbs have a menu (well the ones I use do) that allow you to turn the orb on and off. For example, back when I used one, if I invited someone over, I'd turn the orb off so they could arrive then, depending on the situation, turn it back on once they were in or just wait until they left. So the answer is yes, but the owner has to do the turning on/off which is very simple. I built firelogs that only lit when both my partner and I were within a certain distance of them (they can also be configured to require only one of two people to be nearby, or anyone to be nearby). I was thinking that sort of orb control would be nice, as you'd never have to remember to enable/disable it. When you are not in/near your home, nobody is blocked. Now that I'm thinking about those firelogs, it was lovely to see them light up when I was near them and my partner approached. Friends who received copies said the same thing. The magic of SL comes in many forms.
  12. The persistence of some people impresses me. Last fall, a couple chose to snuggle on the sofa in my lighthouse. The sim is open to the public and there are no locks on any of the rental doors, so I sometimes find people roaming through my house. I'm rarely in-world, and want others to enjoy Jenne and Mandy's "Forgotten City", so I don't mind. When I log in to find visitors, I say hello and they usually apologize for being in my house. I tell them not to worry, to feel free to explore, and that I have other places to go. But several times over the years, my arrival and introduction has produced no response, or a rude one. In these cases, I have no choice but to amuse myself. Here's a snapshot of a couple who were so intent on cuddling, they hung on while I flipped over the sofa and nailed it to the ceiling. It wasn't until I dragged them into the fireplace that they finally bowed to my own persistence. I have ban rights for the entire sim, but haven't used them. I generally dislike confrontations, but knowing I'll win helps. I don't think I'd ever use an orb. Booting people when I'm not around makes no sense to me (are there orbs that only work when the owner is on the sim?) and my encounters with people in my homes over the years have generated more good stories than bad, even if (or especially because) the good story involved setting them on fire. When I had a partner I didn't feel any different, though she might have. And that could be yet another reason I have no SL partner these days ;-)

  14. Hiya Rogue, It's been a while since this happened to me, but the solution was to go to my profile page at my.secondlife.com. Click on your name above "Home" on the left side of the web page. Then hover over the post which is still processing. A li'l box appears on the right with a downward arrow in it. Right click on that and "Remove from feed". I hope that still works! Good luck.

In that regard, as in so many others, SL is a hot mess. ;-) I'm sure you've read where I made this point also. The conversation was reframed several times too many. I'm just going to go back to playing with my toys. I mentioned to Hippie the other day that I've owned a progression of scales of Tinkertoys. "I've had four sets so far. First I had the normal wooden set, then a teenie tiny plastic set that came in a li'l plastic tube. The hubs were the size of Smarties. Then a larger wooden set. Finally, in college, I found a giant plastic set with hubs the size of go-kart wheels. Now I have a go-kart with wheels the size of giant tinker toy hubs." Here in SL, I could live inside a tinkertoy hub! Think of "Greenies". I find the weird scales of SL amusing. I don't mind sitting on a chair with my feet off the ground (or in the ground ;-), nor do I mind standing next to, or dancing with, someone 2-10x my height. So, SL is a hot mess for me, in the sense that it makes no sense... and I like it.

It currently has about 130 posts in it and yet the question was fully answered in the first few posts. Regarding the discussion on the sizes of things in SL as compared to their counterparts in RL, which accounts for almost all of the posts in the thread, and was not the topic of the thread, nobody has changed anybody's mind, and nobody will. So can we agree to differ (again) and leave it at that? Hugs all round :matte-motes-big-grin: and a big kiss to Coby :matte-motes-kiss: I've read almost none of the thread, but it seems to me that the issue isn't size so much as scale. Mark Twain said "Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society." I believe this, and it goes double for accessories. Nothing improves my look, or my mood, like a strand of Mikimoto pearls and a simple but elegant tiara... Don't kill your boss, injure him. That'll leave you something to do tomorrow. You want to end the week on a high note. Good morning, Kids!!!
  19. tidyty wrote: I just got asked out... flattered but how do you do it? Where's the menu for it etc. Welcome to SL, Tidyty. Wouldn't you know it, I have this same problem in real life (RL)!!! Fortunately, or unfortunately, asking someone out, or figuring out what to do if you get asked out, works pretty much the same way here. You go through some awkward chat, during which you try to figure out if the other person is an axe murderer or the future love of your life. You can only be murdered on damage enabled sims in SL, so maybe that's less of an issue, but you really should be careful nonetheless. Romantic encounters here can have the same emotional impact as they do in RL. As others have mentioned, SL is filled with objects that can help set the mood when you go out with someone. You'll find clubs playing every genre of music, many with singles and couples dances of various kinds, ranging from funny to romantic (Not that romance can't be funny, it sure is when I try it.) If you don't want to dance, you'll often find tables and chairs around the perhiphery where you can sit as a couple and watch the crowd (which means both watching the avatars and watching the local chat). There are also countless sims to explore. I've found that exploring places with people is a wonderful way to learn about both SL and people. Again, it's just like RL, you hang with people you find interesting (or people who find you interesting, which feels nice ;-) and if things click, you spend more time with them, sharing your SL experiences. As you've expressed some curiosity about asking someone out, I do recommend that you, if you haven't already, be courageous about chatting. It can be daunting to teleport to a busy club there the local chat is going a mile a minute, but it's worth saying hello and striking up conversations with the locals. If the group isn't welcoming, find another. Be patient, as in the real world, persistance pays off. I envy the newness of your SL experience, as will many that you meet. This can be a wondrous place, and it's filled with interesting people. Have fun, be careful (but not too careful ;-) take your time and report back. We love to hear good stories!!! Good luck, Maddy

Then began all the "You need to spend more time in the sun" - "You look like a ghost" - etc., etc. comments. And then she wrote: When I put the beloved skin from 2007 on now, compared to my current skin, I find myself saying, "ACK, I look like a ghost!" lol But that was the best I could find for my purpose back then. Wait a minute! Is this a redhead thing? We blondes (summer's ending, I'm no longer strawberry blonde) are never bothered by people telling us we look like ghosts when we think we look like ghosts.
  24. Czari Zenovka wrote: Freya Mokusei wrote: Phil Deakins wrote: It's their world and their imagination, and a long time ago they decided that SL stuff is bigger than RL stuff It'd be fine with me if this were the case. As I said in my post, if they're making this choice as a concious decision then great, let the market decide. Unfortunately however, a typical conversation with someone who's set their height to 100 goes like this:- Giant: Hi, why are you so small? Me: I'm not, I'm taller than average for my body type. Giant: I see you as really small. Me: That's because you're about 8 feet tall. Giant: No I'm not. I ran into very similar conversations my first two years in SL - because my avatar had paler skin than the majority of avatars that looked liked they had spent way too much time in a tanning booths. Now there are a much broader spectrum of skin shades but in 2007-2008, even finding a lighter skin that I wanted was difficult. Finally found one and loved it. Then began all the "You need to spend more time in the sun" - "You look like a ghost" - etc., etc. comments. Some from complete strangers, some from friends. One male friend who enjoyed helping new people in SL handed a freebie skin to me and said, "Here. This will look better than that skin until you can afford a nicer one." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had searched high and low for my skin and paid $1500L for that ONE skin. When I informed him of this he said, "Oh, well, ummm..." and clearly thought my skin was ugly. If you're still wearing that skin, I've seen it and commented on it. As for getting more sun. I've had two melanomas removed in RL. Don't do it! Wear big hats, wear long sleeves and pants/skirts. For years, I've had the thought that I should blotch up my overtanned skin (a web freebie I've been painting on for years) to reflect my RL vitiligo. I'd enjoy watching people trying to decide if I should get more sun, or stay out of it.
