  1. That is very possible. The server is probably being overloaded with requests at the moment.
  2. It will not operate if the unit itself is placed above 100m. You cannot set it to run if it is over 100m (or until you get to 2000m, in which case it works again). It still scans for avatars above and below the unit within the range you set. The *maximum* area it would be effective in at ground level is 0-400m
  3. 400m is the maximum height it will work at ground level. You can set it lower.
  4. We tried to give the harbors and marinas a depth of at least 2m along main routes of travel. That seems reasonable for area meant for small to medium sized shallow draft pleasure craft. If there are some spots shallower than that causing problems let us know and we can fix them. Deep draft boats will probably have to use the public rezzing zones where the water is much deeper and keep to the open sea lanes.
  5. Yes, we did see that. We all ooo'd and ahhh'd over it too. We all thought it was very cute. There was a hovertext object saying it wasn't a park and they'd made a ticket and were waiting for it to be fixed, and we did.
  6. I can answer this. The main focus of Linden Homes is the homes themselves. One of the main features is that the home does not count against your parcel prim count. That cost is absorbed by the main parcel. We have to reserve enough Land Impact on that parcel to accommodate the maximum possible LI of all the homes rezzed. The remainder we use for all the decor items in the region. All the roads, streetlights, community areas, trees, bushes, docks, hedges... everything resides on that parcel. Adding a parcel that shares LI with the main parcel residents can rez on adds an element of risk in not having enough land impact to support the house rezzing system. Adding a rezzing zone to Linden Homes is not as simple or cut and dry as it is on the mainland. Everything has to be carefully balanced. That is why most of the rezzing zones are in regions with no resident houses in them or ones we are still in the process of making. Also, the goal is to have as many homes as possible in close proximity to one another without people feeling that they are packed in tightly together as much as we can. Our focus is on a continent of homes with some enjoyable infrastructure rather than a public space with a few homes here and there. We could go crazy adding even more community content around every corner with parks and boat launches and forests and airports and... and... and... Believe me, we LOVE making stuff like that. But the question is, how many homes would we have to delete in order to do that everywhere? How many people are we willing to leave out in the cold waiting for a home so we can have those cool things we have fun making? That's a careful balance as well. In some areas it makes perfect sense. Let's make the coastline look natural. Let's have some mountains through here and some rivers through there. Let's use that LI for more trees and plants between the houses or a community space. Let's not make everything cookie cutter and instead have each region be unique with it's own identity. And let's focus on having as many homes as we can while keeping all those elements that make the continent itself uniquely special. It takes longer to do it that way. It takes a lot of work to do it that way too. And hopefully we'll get faster as we go along and it will evolve in certain ways as well. But doesn't that usually end in a better result?
  7. Yes, if a house doesn't rez for some reason it is a glitch or a bug. If you can't get a house to rez let us know and we will fix it for you. It usually just needs the rezzer or mailbox controller reset (or the region restarted). I don't recommend just putting your own house there instead. If you choose not rez a house, one will be rezzed for you. And if anyone happens to stumble on a way to force the house not to rez I highly recommend keeping that information to yourself and tell us how you did it instead.
  8. /me sends Willow my last can of Earthworms in Spicy Slime Sauce.
  9. This is by no means any sort of rule or anything (if you have more than one premium account by all means you can choose a Linden Home for each of them), but I was wondering since we are in a "supplies are limited" sort of situation for the immediate future if any of you who also have alts with homes had considered just keeping one house so others who missed out might have a chance at one as well? At least until we can bring more online. I had one of the first ones when they opened (primarily as part of confirming the system worked) but I'm faaaar too busy making more Linden Homes to actually use one at this point I think. I abandoned it so one of you could enjoy it instead. It's just a though. Sharing the love is always good karma.
  10. Because it's called Linden Homes and homes are and always will be the main focus. Most people aren't going to want to live right next to an airport. It's far enough away that it won't bother most people. It doesn't block the waterway (I watched several large vessels navigate past it easily). It's simple and basic but doesn't spoil anyone's view. And it does what it's designed to do, which is give people a place to rez aircraft, take off and land.
  11. Dogbone Island Municipal Airstrip is now open. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Coral Waters/105/147/22
  12. Yes, I did say I know this does not work if you have an older Linden Home (since you cannot deed the land to a group). You can leave your group owned land without enough tier to support it for a short period of time, definitely long enough to try and get a Linden Home with that tier instead without increasing it.* If you try and they are already gone, you put the tier back into the group and keep the land. If you do, then you can sell or abandon the land after you have your new Linden Home. At least if you abandon your old Linden Home you can get another one of those easily enough. Probably not in the same location, but a home nonetheless while you wait. *edit: unless something has changed recently on how group land tier contributions works that I'm unaware of.
  13. Advice for those of you waiting for the next round of Linden Homes to be released and are considering abandoning your parcel somewhere else on mainland first: 1. DON'T abandon it (yet) 2. Create or use a group you are the Owner of and has at least one other member so it won't be disbanded (an alt account is best for this). 3. DEED the land to that group and contribute the tier you were using for the land to the group to support the group owned land. 4. When the new homes come out, remove the tier contribution to the group before you try to get one. 5. If you don't get one, go back and donate your tier back to the group. 6. If you do get one and do not wish to keep the group owned land (or pay extra tier fees), abandon or sell the mainland parcel you do not wish to keep. I know this does not work if you have an older Linden Home (since you cannot deed the land to a group), but for the rest it is good way to insure you don't lose the land you have if the new style of Linden Homes you want are all gone already in the next round of releases.
  14. Here are the locations we've added rezzing zone parcels: Boat Rezzing Zones (Basically, look for a lighthouse ) : http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Plafil Waters/14/138/21 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Baxby Gulf/253/64/21 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Norse Auk/149/110/21 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Springhurst Gulf/202/170/21 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Calm Waves/151/129/21 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Echo Cove/201/231/21 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Washburn/89/227/21 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE88/33/49/22 Car rezzing zones (Sections of road you can rez a car on): http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE79/211/113/29 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE43/208/7/36 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE94/82/86/27 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE184/132/142/22 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE69/229/156/23 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE133/206/13/34 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE180/197/54/31 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE74/162/232/31 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE228/18/112/29 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE259/17/122/24 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE194/104/19/25 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE146/82/246/33 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE115/10/59/47 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE83/121/121/47 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE68/89/208/43 http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/SSPE62/6/70/39 Edit: For those of you wondering why they are where they are and not in every region, it has to do with Land Impact. We have to be extra careful to reserve enough Land Impact on the main parcel to support the LI of everyone's houses. So we placed most of these rezzing areas in regions with no resident homes in them for now.
  15. The new regions do look somewhat vaguely familiar, but if they are from "templates" then there are 384 of them to choose from. There is a reason they call us moles. We like to dig
  16. That is what we call our thermal socks.
  17. Technically businesses are not allowed. Linden Homes are residential and the regions have Show in Search blocked at the region level. But if a someone wants to invite their neighbors over for coffee anytime... *wink-wink* Edit: It's very cute and still looks very "homey"
  18. Whether they are 200, 50, or 500... the houses don't count against your parcel LI.
  19. I think it helps if people look at Linden Homes not as something that is owed to residents as part of premium membership and more as an option. If you want land with very little restrictions or rules and being part of a community with the people around you is not something that really interests you, then Linden Homes most likely isn't for you. You'll probably be happier on mainland. Linden Homes is connected to mainland, but is definitely is not mainland in scope or purpose.
  20. We'll make the warning message really long and superfluous so they will be too busy reading to notice anything shocking.
  21. I'm guessing you are referring to what happens if you have the parcel set so people can't see you from outside the parcel but also can't block anyone and everyone from entering. If you've made every reasonable effort to abide by the "behind closed doors" rule they can't really complain if they walk into your property and happen to see something "shocking" in the process can they? Well, they *can* complain, but ARs like that would probably end up in the circular file I'd imagine.
  22. This is an actual screenshot from the narrowest point of the passage in question. Any captain who can hold a straight line and ride the edge of the region with the centerpoint of the ship should be able to navigate through the passage in a ship with a beam as great as 40m (which is about the width of 3 houseboats).
  23. Hate to burst y'alls bubble playing with maps and such... but just be aware there is no mechanism for the lab to flip, reverse or rotate regions and all their contents.
  24. Since the land cannot be sold and blocks transfer of ownership to a group, deeding the land to a group will not be possible. Setting the land to a group will still be possible, yes. Edit: and is actually encouraged if you want to allow friends to rez things on your land and use autoreturn to keep things tidy.
