  1. Displaying professionalism - acting in a professional manner - is available to everyone, actual professional or not. Many people follow Marxism, but there was only one Marx (Groucho).
  2. I think I working on that. All such things remain ineffable anyway. I may be due for another holiday from SL, to be honest. The flame wars are the least of it - the number of people that seem to think a stream of abuse is a valid response to negative comments seems to have reached critical mass. (Not here; did you see the wannabe landlord that had a go at iCade (thread deleted), and the mesh-commissioner slanging-off Sassy (IBTL if you hurry), both in inworld employment? If that's what professionalism - lol, and mesh for that matter - has become in SL I think it's time to wander away again).
  3. ... And credit cards, and debit cards, and anything else around the world that takes LL by surprise. Standard US cards, issued and used in the USA work ... usually ... well, sometimes ... when there isn't some billing problem. Apparently ^^ [You know me - the fact that LL can't work out how to let people pay them is a source of constant wonder]
  4. The most common problems with SL result from using a wifi internet connection instead of wired. Slow/patchy communications with the SL servers can result in freezes like this. That said, if your old machine was fine then presumably your connection is too - which, yes, leaves the graphics card as the prime suspect.
  5. If any of you are premium members you can try talking to live chat, That, unfortunately, is about the only way we have of communicating with LL. Those with basic accounts can only file a few types of support case - which don't cover you problem.
  6. Watch out Pie - after the last flame wars the mods said we should RIC first and not ask questions.
  7. That's quite interesting and might be a nice little business if you work it right. Good luck :-) Do you make them as individual letters or a single piece. In either case, what sort of LI do these have (I know, it's a bit like asking how long a piece of string is ^^) and does that vary with the font or logo complexity?
  8. Zanne Boucher wrote: ... 2pm through to midnight... It's always useful to make it clear which timezone you mean as many new people around the world do not automatically assume you mean SL time.
  9. Troll? All I see in Sassy's post is a price estimate and her reasoning behind it. It does help to provide a price-guide when you request work so you aren't offered an unacceptable quality, high or low. Of course, that's fraught with danger too - name a price and everyone will quote up to that, even if they would otherwise have charged less. You may also like to consider that insulting posts indicate the professionalism people working with you can expect - and they might raise their prices accordingly. [We've just had a couple of flame wars. Mods say to report posts you find offensive or risk being punished yourself for any replies.]
  10. There are problems with LL's payout processing at the moment. It's quite possibly that is affecting detail-changes and all associated payment stuff as well. LL are about the only company on the internet that can't do payment systems ^^. That's why I don't pay them anything.
  11. You should note that facebook doesn't allow accounts for 'fictional' characters like avatars so if you choose to link your SL and facebook accounts you'll be exposing your RL identity to the whole of SL.
  12. Oops, I assumed you were a newbie, not just new to the forums. Since you know SL ... As you probably know the JIRA - where bugs were reported - has more or less been closed to us normal people. The old fora for requesting new features and functionality were removed long ago. Some, very technical, Lindens post in the server forums but usually only about the latest server updates and technical issues. Linden 'office hours' may still be happening in-world for some areas of functionality. If your idea is a corporate linkup get your guy to give their guy a call. Otherwise that's it. LL doesn't really want to hear and definitely doesn't want to discuss. ------- Now, if you want to expose the idea to the acid-test you can try posting about it in the general discussion forum http://community.secondlife.com/t5/General-Discussion-Forum/bd-p/GeneralDiscussionForum but be warned, almost NOTHING is treated nicely over there ^^
  13. This is a resident forum. We are residents. Only residents read - or respond to - posts in this forum. You may care to contact Linden Lab, especially if you are a premium member, in which case you can use live chat. We'd love to know if you get any sort of information out of them.
  14. As you will discover, there are millions, possibly billions, of things in SL, hardly any of them are provided by LL or any controlling organisation. SL is a user-created world so it is very unlikely we'll ever be able to help - or even known about - any specific product. If you see something for sale the first person to ask should be the person selling it. Failing that contact whoever created it in the first place.
  15. And there was me thinking "first-time poster asking us to do another 'survey'?" The students have grown up and got a job but they still want us to do their homework for them. ^^
  16. It is going too far to say they CAN'T act without a DCMA (or other legal action) from the official copyright holder. After all the in most countries they have a the same 'duty of care' as any other shopkeeper/service provider. Ill-defined as that usually is if someone is blatantly selling illegal copies LL can (possibly must) act. A guy in 'answers' recently asked why his sounds ripped from commercial games were taken down, for instance ^^

Ooooh - you have to join in next time we reprise coding/formatting-style, as in http://community.secondlife.com/t5/LSL-Scripting/A-matter-of-taste/td-p/2130333. It's the sort of thing that comes around once or twice a year.
  18. Yes, that only works within a sim. An object usually is in the same sim as its script though ^^. There is no way to give anything to an object - only an avatar - that isn't in the same sim. Seriously, I know what you mean. The range of discussions we've had about update strategies is rather large. It all comes down to the object having to come to an update sim or the update being sent to the object's owner.
  19. Sims are assumed to be open to everyone unless the sim owners have set access off. Suck it and see, as advised above. If you can get, you're allowed in - no one's going to yetl at you for asking or visiting. Assuming you can get there the people to ask about activities and events would be the owners (look at World > About Land). Ideally they'll have some sort of 'welcome centre' detailing who to contact with questions but that's not always the case.
  20. Good point Rolig. The 'off duty' forum face is also not necessarily what they're like when they're working. I used to rent from Prok, who had a bad reputation on the forums. Excellent landlord though. Considerate, fast, excellent service, good terms, the works.
  21. Contact a few copyright/trademark owners and see the fur fly ^^. Some do see it as free/cheap advertising to a market that otherwise wouldn't buy anyway. Some - like DIsney, for instance - will sue over anything.
  22. This one looks like a future candidate too: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Inworld-Employment/Wanted-Advertisin-g-Specialist-amp-Blogger/m-p/2246327#U2246327
