  1. We get a lot of people asking us to complete questionnaires - do their homework for them - but I'll take this one. You give credentials, don't conflate "virtual world" with "game" and ask for experiental information which couldn't be obtained just by going in-world for yourself. I waive the L$500 ;~0 [ETA: Well, I tried anyway. You have a little text box for "places you've lived (city, country, for how long)". Just as my most recent venture am I meant to enter "yachts, the sea (big blue wobbly thing) around Europe, 10 years". Then there's the time I spent in Africa, North America, South America, the Caribbean (distinct from Central America) as well as Europe. And on land but not in a city? I live on a (small) farm now. I lived on a wildlife reserve in Kenya. There weren't any cities for many miles!]

I can't find it and fear it was either deleted or locked because it became a flame-war between a couple of genuine trolls. You're talking about that enjoyable thread titled Amazing levels of incompetence, which is also the title of the moderator that struck it from existence. Meanwhile, we're left with nothing with which to amuse ourselves but inane drivel, such as that which is on display in this one. ...Dres That's the bunny! It would have been so useful for proving we mean what we say :-( Aw well. PS @ Czari - 5000 series! Holy (*^*&^, I really thought my 8300 was outdated!
  3. Larree Quixote wrote: Thanks for all the cool responses. I never knew there was so much controversy over the taxis. I appreciate all of the info and different opinions. Peace, out! FWIW I think Anne had a great project in mind (to make the roads look a bit more interesting and 'alive') and it did seem that LL had, at first, given it their sanction*. For reasons far more to do with SL's limitations than hers - with possibly more "benefit of doubt" than others would - it turned out that the things littered and caused more trouble than they were worth, to the extent that LL applied their sanction* instead. [*Sanction is one of a very small class of 'contronyms' words in English which mean their exact opposite - you can 'sanction' something (give permission) or 'sanction' it (impose a penalty)]
  4. Already answered in http://community.secondlife.com/t5/LSL-Scripting/Say-on-Rez/m-p/2300811#U2300811 (And if you didn't understand the answer there - all you need to do is wrap "default{" and "}" around it!]
  5. For those who aren't aware the controversy over those vehicles drew a response from LL led to this interpretation of LL's policies: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Automated_Mainland_Vehicle_Guidelines [ETA: Oh dear, I really messed that up. As pointed out later in this thread that is NOT an official LL page as I originally said. Sorry everyone]
  6. Swim AOs usually look at the land-height vs water-height for their position and if they're "in" water but "above" land decide they must be swimming. What that means is that they won't recognise a prim as water at all because it will be above the sim water (or you wouldn't need it!). Dance-balls, pose-balls, etc. etc. all do the same thing - play the animation (or the selected animation from a menu of several) loaded into their contents. In other words ANY poseball script, more or less, should work for you if you add that to the water.
  7. Bobbie Faulds wrote: ...My computer specifics. I'm using a GeForce GTX 550 TI, so 2 generation older than the newest release and having no problems signing in on any viewer.... QED ;-) I would say "spoilsport" but as we both know some people rarely let the truth get in the way of a good rant.
  8. Alright; amongst all my outstanding achievements I am a philosopher. Amazingly enough no-one has yet refuted the OP's claim that no 'modern' PC - defined as one using a graphics card more recent than the nVidia 220 - can run SL. My ancient 8300 probably is suitable for landfill so I can't argue with him. Obviously all the non-PC users (Apple is the only contender I can think of, since Linux is usually run on PC hardware) can't either, smug gits ^^. The secondary claims that it's all a deliberate plot by LL, we're all trolls and that making suggestions for games in response to a request is "unhelpful" are, well, laughable. That's why I'm enjoying this thread so much. So is any bugger going to spoil it by unequivocally stating "I use SL on PC hardware with xxxxx graphics card", where xxxxx is newer than an nVidia 220?
  9. Leslie Trihey wrote: I know about 15 people that got hacked by this, and there not stupid... Can any of them spell "they're"? The thing is, while your main point - that there is an evil **bleep** hacking accounts - is valid, the rest of what you're complaining about isn't. We see a thread every day complaining about stuff that is not a LL/SL problem We see at least a thread a week from people who think it's someone else's fault they don't know how their computer works Almost every rant in these forums is from people too inexperienced with SL to even realise LL doesn't read this. Failing to notice a pretty massive thread just makes your "OMG - WHY AREN'T YOU TALKING ABOUT ...?" look lame Why SHOULD we, anyway? I didn't even mention it at all down the pub this evening. Semi-literate posts are marked down. Try a bit of grammar or use your own language. (True, most of us will skip a non-English thread but if you want a post to be taken seriously, make it look like you wanted it to be).
  10. Yes - but the OP's main point is still valid if all their computers came from a landfill or are not PCs (ie; apple or something, I can't tell). It's only modern PCs that can't run SL, apparently.
  11. This isn't the right section - this is for discussing how you write the script yourself and asking for advice. For something that already exists post in the wanted forum. To employee someone to make it for you post in in-world employment. That said - what you're probably looking for is a swimming animation, not any particular script.
  12. Where's that thread in which we all agreed with the complaints about SL and LL that actually made sense? I can't find it and fear it was either deleted or locked because it became a flame-war between a couple of genuine trolls. Still, this thread is oddly interesting in that instead of leaving-as-threatened the OP keeps coming back with the same pointless rant and, despite having asked for suggestions about games he can play (as opposed to virtual worlds he can join, presumably) now rants about that too.
  13. If you are a premium member you can get technical support from Linden Lab's live chat. If you are not a premium member you don't get technical support.
  14. [Originally reply didn't see question in title - oops, apologies] Download the latest drivers from your graphics card's manufacturer. Open the Windows control panel, select your graphics card and 'update drivers'
  15. You can write code when you can get something to work. Once is enough :-) It is safe to say you can write code if you get stuck and can understand the answers other people give to fix it. You can consider yourself comfortable with (LSL) code if you get stuck and can solve your problem by reading the wiki. You can consider yourself an experienced coder if you can read the (equivalent of) the wiki for another programing language and write something that works using that. It is safe to say you are an expert coder when your programs work better than other peoples' and they ask your advice. And you should still expect to fail even in the simplest programing task. If it works first time the bugs are just better hidden. [Repeat for each new language. Take 1 step backwards for every month without practicing - in each language Restart for all languages every 2 years because the paradigms will change (eg; batch/interactive, command-line/GUI, menu/event driven, data/object oriented)]
  16. It'll happen soon enough. There are so many people now who think computers are fashion accessories and expect their phones to be able to display SL and anything else. There's a lot of demand but so far there is still a gap between owners' expectations and those machines' (not neccessarily yours) capabilities.
  17. Treat yourself to Xn convert: http://www.xnview.com/en/index.php GIMP, or another graphics-editing program is a very useful tool to have around if you're planning on being in SL for a while. Building in SL is free - creating and adding your own textures (pictures) makes better buildings ;-)

That includes knowing how to see if a location will allow rezzing. So often I see absolute newbies being told to 'look for a sandbox' so they can 'rez the items'. Huh? What's a sandbox? What does rez mean? Top tip for opening boxes - which a lot of oldbies don't know, but should - you can "wear" the box even in no-rez areas. That lets you then edit it and extract the contents. Remove the box and wear your new clothes/attachments ;-)
  21. The best - and almost only - VICE reference I could find is https://code.google.com/p/lsl-code-library/source/browse/trunk/Combat+Systems/VICE+SDK+v1.2.0/!VICE+Info+%26+Reference+Guide+v1.2.0.txt?r=62 Your best bet may be to ask in the roleplay forum (http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Role-Play/bd-p/RolePlay) for either the scripts or groups that are using them (so can, presumably, tell you where to get them).
  22. HTML makes Javascript (ECMA script) official, doesn't it? Without that there'd be no client-side processing, just rendering.
  23. There's a forum just for you: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Mesh/bd-p/Mesh
  24. Probably the best place to have posted would have been http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Building-and-Texturing-Forum/bd-p/buildingandtexturing but you've got the answer you need. Well done, anyway - not many people take the trouble to explain their problem as well as you did. Helping us help you works :-)
  25. If you want something that already exists - post in the wanted (http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Wanted/bd-p/Wanted) forum If you want someone to write something for you - post in the inworld employment (http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Inworld-Employment/bd-p/InworldEmployment) forum If you want some help writing this yourself - you're in the right place but we'd need to know what help you want.
