  1. Did they say you'd be banned FOR 1444 minutes (roughly 24 hours) or IN 1444 minutes? If it was the latter, think about it - if you were banned, presumably for doing something bad, why would they give you ADVANCED NOTICE of it, thereby giiving you a day to practice your supposedly evil ways? I see ZERO chance of that happening. If you actually were banned you probably wouldn't have been able to log in at all. There's a slim chance your account may be put on some sort of administrative hold for a day but this whole thing sounds very unlikely.
  2. If you're getting decent frame rates, try this - 1) Go to "Preferences" - "Advanced" and enable the Advanced menu. 2) Go to the "Advanced" menu and select "Show Debug Settings" 3) In the dialog box, start typing in "RenderGLCoreProfile" (without the quotes) until it autocompletes and then hit "Return" 4) It should be currently set to "False." Set it to "True" and restart the viewer. This will drop your frame rate but get rid of the flashing. If your frame rate is marginal anyway you can also just go to "Preferences" - "Graphics" and turn off "Basic Shaders."
  3. Go to "Preferences" - "Chat" and tune the settings for each type of notification. I have my Group Chat set to "Pop up the message" and my Local Chat to "None" and they don't yoink focus from each other. I think the culprit is "Open Communications Window" - I have my personal IM's set to do that and I had one yoink focus from my local chat yesterday.
  4. There are a handful of last names that are associated with organizations that have their own registration API's (mostly universities.) If you REALLY, REALLY, REALLY can't live without a last name like Hurricane, Deluxe, or Lyric you may be able to track down one of these places... (Theresa Tennyson rolls her eyes, as do her alts, who all have last names that were picked by their typist rather than a cat walking on a dictionary.)
  5. Many things like jewelry are coming with setup HUD's to control settings like that. See if you got a HUD in the folder (or ask your fiance if they got one, more likely.)
  6. 1) No, he isnt' a Linden. 2) No, he isn't telling the truth. 3) No, he can't get you in trouble unless you overreact to him and do something stupid. He will keep trying to annoy you - ignore him.
  7. I'm a little confused about what you're asking. What "3.1" are you running? (Please edit your original post.) The problem is that they are changing how avatars are rendered and everyone will need an updated viewer to see them properly. The Linden Lab viewer will be updated, of course, as will Firestorm ant the other currently maintained third-party viewers. Phoenix will NOT be updated - that was what the FIrestorm post was referring to, as Phoenix and Firestorm are from the same developers.
  8. When you take a snapshot instead of "Save to My Computer" or "Save to My Inventory", hit the "Post to My Profile Feed" button. There's currently no direct way to post a pre-existing snapshot to your feed; however, once a picture is on your feed you can then save it to your computer with your browser.
  9. Sounds like a connection problem. If you're using wireless switch to a wired connection. Right about here is where all the people who have the same problems as you say, "My internet connection is just fine because I can blah blah blah" and I say that doesn't mean anything to SL. Second Life doesn't need speed in a connection, it needs reliability. It has to maintain a constant two way connection and most consumer internet connections are meant for simple one-way communication like sending web pages and video. Go to www.pingtest.net and run a test to San Francisco from where you are and see what sort of line quality you have. Also SL tends to try to use several connections simultaneously and some routers choke on that. Go into "Preferences" - "Advanced" and turn on the "Develop" menu. Then go to that menu and try de-selecting "Use HTTP Textures."
  10. Did you scroll down? In my browser the "submit" button is just below and to the right of what you're seeing.
  11. Sim crossings do seem to be much better but on my motorcycle (a notoriously bad sim crosser) I'm hitting a few rough patches and upon checking they seem to correspond to crossing in or out of LeTigre/BlueSteel regions. Could you confirm that those channels got the interest list changes that went out to the rest of the grid?
  12. Annie Rubanis wrote: Hi all, A quick observation and question: does it seem to anyone else that SL has fewer designers and creators than ever? I go back about 4 years and can remember when any category had a really wide variety and selection of creators making new items, animations, etc. Animations are a good example, I love shopping for new stands and other animations for my AO but have found that these creators have seriously dwindled over the years and the ones who are still actively designing and putting out new items do this with less frequency than before. Am I just imagining this? You're seeing basically the same thing that happens in RL all the time. There are far fewer car manufacturers today than there were in 1916; there are far fewer computer manufacturers than there were in 1996 (I remember when Computer Shopper magazine was an inch-and-a-half thick.) The problem is not so much the market being flooded with cheap JUNK, but with cheap GOOD products (not necessarily the best, perhaps, but acceptable.) For various reasons some manufacturers are able to reach a price/quality point that means many of their smaller competitors have to give up. Personally, I now see no reason to spend more than L$350 or so on an AO because I know a couple of makers whose AO's at that price point are at least as good as the four-figure ones. Same with the old expensive, no-copy furniture. Still, I'm finding good new merchants all the time.
  13. Rolig Loon wrote: You can often find that the height adjustment has to change if you move from one sim to another, which can be annoying. And yes, this is a Firestorm feature, not available in V3, AFAIK. The way the function currently works will be broken by server-side baking as well. They're working on a replacement but it may be a better long-term solution to make yourself a shoe base ("red sneaker" wearable) you can use to adjust yourself to the right height with those particular shoes. With most current shoes it will be invisible.
  14. Ferawri Enzo wrote: Hello Second Life, I have a few questions that i just cant find in world from anyone. I recently have disbaled pathfinding on all my homestead regions thinking that it would go away and all would be well. This obviously was not the case as the region rebake button showed up the very next day with the caution sign meaning it needed to be rebaked. Now before i rebaked it I checked the sim stats and the memory allocation was at 146mb once I rebaked the region it went down to 56 mb. What exactly causes a region to have to be rebaked again and again, specifically. Terraforming or objects rezzed in world or both? This seems to happen a lot on one sim in specific and because the navmesh is constantly modified and there was heavy terraforming the first week the sim was opened it caused the memory allocation to reach in upwards of 200 - 300 mb's which in turn caused many problems such as inventory issues, rezzing objects on the land were returned and error messages to follow, script errors, heavy lag and attchments not working propely. So what is the root cause for the region to have to be rebaked again and again on a daily basis and others not? More importantly, how can this be prevented. Thanks Ferawri. Anything that affects the shape of the ground will require the navmesh to be rebaked even if pathfinding isn't running, but it will rebake on its own after a while. What you're describing sounds like a problem that was fairly common a few months ago but was corrected for most places. Do you know what server version the affected regions are running? Go to "Help-About Second Life and it will say what server version is being run on your sims. It should be "Second Life Server" or contain the words "Magnum", BlueSteel" or "LeTigre." There's also a very slim chance it might say something else too.

It really made me think about the quality of SL avatars. I’ve been dreaming of high quality av’s like this for some time to use in SL but alas… I do have a question for everyone however. Do you think we will ever have this type of avatar in SL or is the SL avatar unique and what we have is what we have? . I've always been curious about avatar makers whose definition of "realistic" is "always sweaty and/or freshly varnished."

Innula Zenovka wrote: Penny Patton wrote: Oz Linden, currently in charge of the already finished patch (made by an ex-Linden) has publicly stated he does not believe people in SL actually want mesh clothing that fits them and thinks forcing everyone to have identical shapes is a better solution for everyone. So he's sitting on it. It's done. It works. Just needs to be added to the main viewer code. They're sitting on it. Meanwhile, they're absolutely baffled by their struggle to retain customers. When did Oz say that? I'm not doubting it; it would just useful to have a link for future reference. I remember Oz saying that at about the time of his initial request for test clothing but it was with the air of a mother telling her children "Well, I guess you just don't want to go to Disneyland" when they hadn't cleaned their rooms. Mom KNOWS you want to go to Disneyland, she's just irritated. Note: No judgement as to whether this attitude is or is not justified is meant to be implied from this post.
  17. If you're changing permissions on an object it's a bad idea to only change them in your inventory without rezzing it. The safe way to do it is to rezz the object, change the permissions by editing and then taking it into your inventory. The inventory servers are a different environment from the rezzed world and changes made in inventory don't take effect until the object is rezzed. If you distribute the object without ever rezzing it sometimes the changes never occur for the distributed copies.

IvanTwin Rogers wrote: That is true and is not true really The Rosse area have about 98 items scripted and the Tim area are empty, when Tim put 2 scripts the total in the server is 100 scripts and the server with 100 scripts have lag but with 98 scripts not. i say that in hypothetical example. the most time the big area have more scripts and prims than the small areas the problem is not Tim is Rosse. Tim have a limitacion for the big area. IF the sim ran fine with 98 scripts but badly when two scripts were added AND The problem is excessive script time (which may well NOT be the problem - servers now are set up to only allocate a certain maximum amount of time to run all combined scripts. If the running scripts would exceed this time some of the scripts are temporarily delayed. Excessive scripts will make all scripts on the sim run slower but shouldn't cause major problems for the speed of the actual simulation itself.) THEN The problem is with the two added scripts themselves. All scripts are not created equal. Two large, complicated, badly written scripts can bog down a sim more than 98 small, efficient ones.
  19. There's a script in the object that looks for a nearby avatar and names the object after that avatar temporarily. You won't get in any trouble for it - anyone who's familiar with objects like this can find out who the real owner is. The actual text should have been in color, which means that an object is "speaking" instead of an avatar.
  20. In addition to the previous comments, those avatars are probably pulled from a hard drive and the only streamed data necessary is what's needed to update their movements and locations. In SL nothing is local and everything has to be streamed off of servers through a motley selection of internet connections all over the world. Two words: Blue Mars, may it rest in peace.
  21. There are griefing objects that can do what you're seeing by flooding local chat with blank lines. If this is the problem it will be an object somewhere nearby. Using Firestorm's spam-control tools you should be able to cut down the spam and then you can try and locate the object.
  22. Charli Infinity wrote: if you haven't noticed, I have been ignoring because you are not contributing anything but just telling people to leave because they have views which is different from yours. After following this whole thread, you still change my words. I just said in my previous post the is creative and interesting in SL but it's burried by the tackiness yet you still accuse me of saying "EVERYONE in SL is tacky" which I never did. The words I have used is majority and most. You are making up things to draw hate towards me, you're not discussing anyhting, you are offended and you just want me to leave. Matthew 7:3
  23. Probably a false alarm. Sometimes anti-virus programs falsely identify compressed files in the cache as viruses. Even if it's real it's a DOS virus from years ago and shouldn't be able to do anything to a system running an operating system that can run SL.
