  1. I would use two computers, one for SL and one that was not connected to the internet for the secure work.
  2. What ancient hardware, and what version of Windows? Aside from some viewers that use AVX extensions, the basic hardware requirements are mostly the same, and have been for a very long time. Where you're likely to run into problems is Windows not playing nice with your video because it doesn't have drivers. In that case, you're probably out of luck without rolling back to an unsupported version of Windows. Which Microsoft goes out of their way to make a total pain in the ass.
  3. 16GB M1. Yes, I've cleared the caches. Also the system and user caches.
  4. I'm not sure what's happened, but now that my MacBook is updated to Big Sur 11.2.1, it's become completely useless for SL. I'm getting bad single digit frame rates where I was getting in the 20s when I first got it. There's nothing else eating up CPU time and no changes I make to settings in Firestorm or the LL viewer improve anything. It went from great to typical SL on a Mac.
  5. nVidia GTX 1060, 1650 or 1650 Super. Power supply: First thing is, you're going to need a 6-pin PCIe power connector for anything that's an upgrade from your 750. I kinda doubt a 300 watt power supply is going to have one, so a power supply upgrade is probably in your future. I'd upgrade the power supply regardless. Availability: Good luck. Any video card worth having is likely either out of stock or costs twice as much as it should. If you can get one of the aforementioned cards for $200 or less, go for it. Otherwise, I'd just tough it out with the 750 until sanity returns to the GPU market. Maybe you could find a decent deal used, if you're okay with that kind of thing.
  6. Since it was working in December, try using an older driver instead of the latest one. They're here: https://www.amd.com/en/support/previous-drivers/graphics/amd-radeon-r9-series/amd-radeon-r9-300-series/amd-radeon-r9-390
  7. And with that, rather than filling up my block list with the trash, I am out of here.
  8. I said "if" and I doubt everyone who voted for him still supports him after January 6th. Anyone who does, if the shoe fits, wear it. Challenging an election isn't insurrection. Repeatedly and without evidence calling it fraudulent and stolen then attempting to coerce government officials into changing the results is. I don't recall the part of 2016 where Nancy Pelosi egged on Democrats for months until they stormed the Capitol looking to kill the vice president.
  9. If they still support him after his attempted insurrection to overturn the results of that election then they are supporting a fascist and deserve the label themselves.
  10. Context matters. The context of months of claiming the election was rigged and stolen (with no evidence) and the only thing that stood between them and the far left socialist agenda of Joe Biden (let that bit of idiocy sink in for a moment) was overthrowing the result of the election. The results of which had been certified by every state and the District of Columbia, after multiple recounts and dozens of failed court cases. Leading up to a speech to a mob everyone knew was wound up for violence and telling them to go to the Capitol. Trump also told them he was going with him, instead he went back to the White House. What do you think the reason for that was?
  11. Oh, no I mean the totally really real shenanigans where the fake numbers just happened to be exactly the same as the real ones, but it was a huge fraud. The conspirators were trying to change tens of thousands of votes but were so bad at their jobs they got caught and didn’t change any.
  12. They counted the votes three times, got essentially the same answer three times, so where do the shenanigans fit in?
  13. Did they pull the same trick all three times the Georgia votes were counted?
  14. Trusting the science and trusting the guy who thinks the world is 6,000 years old and happens to be running the coronavirus task force are two entirely different things.
  15. You know, it's funny, I have no trouble at all finding right wing voices on social media. Whoever is in charge of silencing them is doing a terrible job.
  16. Oh please, I want to hear the super good science behind the implication that the coronavirus vaccine caused coronavirus deaths in a nursing home.
  17. We have let the bear run amok for months, gorging on digital stupid juice. And whaddayaknow, it attacked us anyway. Time to put the bear down.
  18. Get an Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 and an Nvidia GTS 250.
  19. Turn the draw distance down to 128M from the 256 Ultra sets it to. IMO 256M draw distance does little more than bottleneck everything. Turn off shadows and you should get pretty good performance almost anywhere using a reasonably powerful computer. Probably not 60fps in London City, but is should be more than usable.
  20. You can probably edit the XML file for the menu to change it, but I don’t know if you can remove it. If you could it might cause more problems, you have to use wear for the first of each system layer, I think. Does add work with shapes or skins?
  21. The difference between SL and Parler is it would be in Linden Lab's interest to come up with an effective way to deal with such a scandal. It's not just AWS that wouldn't want to be associated with that, it's practically their entire customer base. Ether LL does a cleanup, or everyone leaves. Parler's entire reason for existing is catering to people who were to scummy for Twitter.
  22. As long as Linden Lab has rules and enforces them, SL isn’t getting Parlered. If something like Wonderland 2007 came up again, that could be a problem, but unlike Parler, LL seems to take that sort of thing seriously and cracks down on it.
