  1. It may not be apparent, to new premium members, that to any existing premium members every single house or houseboat is a prime location, in comparison with the old home that they have been using for ages. Inevitably, some are more prime than others, but they're definitely all prime.
  2. There may be, of course, a perfectly valid reason why its being left derelict - holidays, illness, temporary (or even permanent) insanity, 6 month voyage on the Blake Sea......... But if its because they want to live in a box in the sky, well, that's their right to, but I'm right behind you in the queue!
  3. That just stinks! Its a total abuse of the new homes genre. If people want to live in a box in the sky, there's definitely a case for LL to provide, well.... a stack of boxes in the sky somewhere? It breaks my heart to think that people might be grabbing these quality, ground level environments when they have no intentions at all to be part of the "new revolution" community.
  4. Just to clarify things a bit, once somebody is within your parcel boundaries, they can see all avatars (provided their draw distance is set high enough). At 400m high, they won't be able to hear anything spoken at ground level (unless they descend to withing 20m of you). But the ability to see you is not good for your privacy at all, as Blush has pointed out.
  5. I read it to mean that the system won't work if you place it between 100 and 2000m. Keep it placed outside of that range and it will work as stated. Maybe I'm wrong?
  6. It might well be a houseboat, but its still a house. Why should it be different?
  7. 15 seconds and the given height parameters seems to me to a very reasonable compromise; I really hope everybody will welcome this. Nice work, Patch 😊
  8. It seems that there's an awful lot of regions that have mysteriously and suddenly acquired one of these! Some evil, would-be Master of the SLuniverse must be breeding an army of them. You obviously didn't go to Blueberry's sale yesterday! It took me a full 2 minutes just to do people the courtesy of simply moving off the Landing Point. I didn't think to look at the sim stats but I bet they would have made for grim reading.
  9. They really missed out on a golden opportunity for some headline-grabbing publicity. I'd keep working on your sea survival skills if I were you!
  10. That's exactly what I was hoping they hadn't done, too! So, fingers crossed!
  11. Good idea! A bit more than a week might be required though?
  12. Unfortunately, I have had a couple, but there's been a huge difference. In the past, when its been obvious that the TP had frozen, using the Cancel button has returned me to the normal view but the disconnect had not been prevented. Avatar movement forwards or backwards would not work (although, strangely, rotation did) and many seconds later the dreaded "You have been logged out....." or similar message would appear. This time the Cancel has worked as before but the disconnect has not occurred, and its been possible to simply have a retry at the TP. It seems that the time-out tolerance has been increased and that's definitely helpful.
  13. For some reason I'm finding it difficult to find several of the pages that have been mentioned recently on this thread; probably because I'm just stupid half the time! May I have a pointer this page, please?
  14. Unless I missed a post or two this appears to be the only grumble about not getting a houseboat from an existing premium member, hidden amongst a tirade of complaints from people who have jumped on the premium bandwagon at the scent of a really decent premium perk. It is only natural that people would go marauding after a decent perk, and I have every sympathy with those that have missed out on this round of releases, when it has cost them US$72. However, I suspect that there is an awful lot of existing premium members, who have been subscribing for many years, who might just be a bit annoyed that they didn't get one either, but they are noticeably quiet so far. The sudden appearance of new premium members popping out of the woodwork and snapping up houseboats won't be going down very well with them though, and maybe their silence so far is related to the fact that they don't give a poo that new members will just have to wait, just like everyone else.
  15. Me too! I much prefer plain, simple chat gestures, Maybe if I hadn't have been too quick to jump in with a sarcastic (but nevertheless, heartfelt) comment, I could have given a really nice explanation like that. Nice one, Lindal 👍
  16. Using FS, with region settings for the environment, just recently I have noticed a very marked difference in light levels when switching Advanced Lighting on and off. Turning A/L off is so bright by comparison that you need to reach for your sunglasses! I really don't remember it being this different in the past.
  17. I couldn't agree more. But when you can't think of anything useful to say in chat, especially at parties and dances, and you want to get yourself noticed, then gestures are just the thing for you - whooooooo-hooooooooooo!!!! Be sure to get the gestures that flood the parcel audio with loud, funny noises, too. With a bit of practice, and the help of a couple of like-minded friends, you can completely command the local chat by making it scroll off so fast, and you've swamped the audio too. I've seen (and heard it) at dances sometimes. Its very effective. I won't be staying there to listen to them though - they drive me insane.
  18. Are skyboxes being allowed on the new homes? Anyone know?
  19. Yes, fair comment. Its just a bit of a mish-mash for the newbie now, with different systems for opening boxes, and its not always obvious as to which way it should be done.
  20. Sometimes..... exactly. I've just rummaged through my inventory and opened a few boxes that had no information at all about how to open them in their item names, no signs of any hovertext at any point in the proceedings, but auto-opened on left-click after rezzing. It seems that some creators do it well for their customers, others maybe not so well.
  21. Yes, all good advice! But you know. I know, too. But to a newbie, its a bit of a black art!
  22. In fact, the main "Revue" section on a marketplace item isn't really the right place either. Always contact the creator directly, as Drake said above. You should also always see if there is a group associated with those products. Do a search in the inworld (ie. logged in to your viewer) search facility - use the "Web Search" tab and search for the maker's name. Scroll down the results until you find matching results marked with a couple of little heads - that will be the group that you need to join and then pose your questions. There is a support group for the product you've bought. You're very likely to find someone who will give you all the answers you need. You never know, you might even be lucky enough to find someone who will help you to tie up any loose ends, as we sometimes say, too! Your profile suggests that you are genuinely very new to Second Life. If so, you have definitely jumped in at the deep end! Sometimes that's the quickest way to learn to swim; sometimes its the fastest way to drown! Don't be too impatient - spend a bit of time splashing around in the shallow end!
