  1. DON'T DO THIS! Quite often the situation will stabilise after a few seconds, and you can sail on. The sim crossing malaise IS back with us again though, sadly, and everything @AnnHerrick tells us points to sim crossing failure. Ann, please - copy and paste the entire contents of your viewer's Help -> About [viewer name], when your viewer is set up for how you have it for sailing. There's some oddballs in that lot that might just point to something wrong.
  2. Email client Oops - hidden next page! Kindly ignore this....
  3. I've seen many posts from people who have used a simple speedtest, which has returned good figures for speed and ping, without realising that they are only testing from their computer to the nearest decent server selected by the testing site. This will often be the nearest major population centre, and might be only a few miles away! It is essential to use a global speed test that will give an option of where to test to - something like Ookla does the job. I usually choose Tucson, but pretty well well any Arizona destination will give a reasonable idea of what is really going on. ( A typical ping from the UK to Arizona will be in the order of 160 - 200ms)
  4. Oh poo! I really wish I took notes when I skim the technical stuff on these forums! If I remember correctly, there's an outfit call Grid Survey(?), that send bots out to collect information. There may be others too. And, despite you having had the land for years, the "old landmark" problem still crops up. Just recently, I followed a Marketplace link to "see the item in world", and arrived in the usual un-rezzed mess. As things began to form in focus, it was obvious that I had landed in the kitchen of a house, not a store! At that point I got booted by the security, sadly before I'd had time to take any action myself. That always leaves me with an unpleasant feeling that I've done something wrong. So here's a gentle little nudge to Market Place traders: UPDATE YOUR [expletive deleted] MARKETPLACE LISTINGS IF YOU MOVE OR CLOSE YOUR STORE!!! (This is not the first time this has happened by any means!)
  5. The impact of avatars arriving and departing hasn't been specifically mentioned so far, and this is an issue that may be largely responsible for Caerolle's problems of walking on the spot or very slowly. When an avatar arrives in a region, every single scrap of information about that avatar - hair, skin, clothes and all the scripts that are attached to it, have to be received from the previous region's server, processed and actioned. This demands a fair bit of work to be done by the receiving simulator, but shouldn't really take more more than a few milliseconds. Likewise, when an avatar leaves the region, all that data has to be passed over to the new region's simulator. This shouldn't take more than a few milliseconds but, at busy places (like shopping events), avatars are arriving and leaving all the time, and this starts to present a heavy load on the simulator. The effect of three or four avatars arriving in quick succession can stall everything for several seconds sometimes. Now lets add a big script loading to all of these arriving/departing avatars, and things just start to get impossible! And its not difficult to carry a big script load around with you all the time - scripted hair, clothes, shoes (texture change scripts) and mesh body hud scripts are very commonly worn all the time. Some people have scripted additions to their avatars, too - collars, "personal bits"...etc, and these can all add up to a massive script load. One day we might just get the message through to people. Why are they even wearing their "personal bits" to go shopping, for example? Can you copy that dress, make it blue for your "blue outfit", and delete the scripts? (Make sure you keep an original copy though!) Dumping unnecessary scripts will do a huge favour to everyone.
  6. Thanks for trying. I'll see what I can find.
  7. No, I don't, but that's awful. I shall be banging on my MP's door about it, just as soon as I can. Let me have your source, please; I'll need good ammo.
  8. I have a few items in Firestorm's Favorite Wearables function, and do indeed find that useful. The most useful tool I have ever come across, however, is the FASTer Hud - https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/FASTer-HUD-Avatar-Clothing-and-Attachment-Manager/13829155 Although primarily designed for quick attachment/detachment of wearable items, I use it substantially as a "HUD-for_HUDs", especially for appliers too. The buttons on the FASTer HUD have a picture on them, which makes for very easy selection. I've had to make my own pictures up (which can be a bit fiddly if you're not well versed in this sort of thing); the provided button pictures, although plentiful, are unlikely to cover all of your requirements. To keep the texture loading as low as possible, I have a "Master FASTer HUD", with text-only button pictures, e.g. "U/ware", "Hose", "Shoes", "Catwa", "Omega" etc, and some of these buttons add, not a wearable item, but another FASTer HUD containing all the huds or appliers for that particular category. Another bonus feature is the ability to group items together. Selecting an item from a group will automatically detach any other item from that group that might be live. Its taken a while to get it all set up properly, but has proved invaluable in the long run.
  9. Two possibilities come to mind:- a) It was a direct continuance of Project Fear campaigning; the likes of which have been flooding the UK since 2017, or b) especially given the absence of the OP since the opening post, it was a blatant attempt to troll. Either way, I find it difficult to view as humorous!
  10. The word "Tory" came into use for members of a political faction that arose during the Exclusion Crisis (1679 - 1681), during the reign of Charles ll. This faction supported the right of Charles' brother, James, to succeed the throne. They were opposed by by a faction, dubbed "Whigs", who opposed James' right of succession because he was a Roman Catholic. As has been rightfully pointed out, Tory derives from the Gaelic, tΓ³raidhe, meaning outlaw. Whig came from an old word meaning yokel, or country bumpkin. Both words were used in derogatory fashion! Strangely, the word Tory has survived to modern times, whereas Whig has disappeared into obscurity. Modern Conservative politicians apparently have no qualms about being described as Tories, despite the origin of the term. Ref: @Bree Giffen - Not sure why they are called Tories.
  11. Granted! Your bedrooms are now so chock-a-block with clothes that you have to sleep on the settee and suffer chronic back pain as a result. I wish for a quiet and peaceful Christmas... (Try not to spoil this one too badly - please!)
  12. Lyrics Finder No, let's make it a little easier.... Lyrics Finders (apps for finding the song/lyrics matches)
  13. The Monster Raving Loony Party candidates did at least bring a smile to my face. Doom-mongering doesn't, I'm afraid. You're not being paid by some shady, foreign country source to post this, by any chance?
