  1. In SL, that is precisely what the Calling Cards system was supposed have provided. but nobody seems to know of there existence! I'm quite sure that the Facebook technique of trying to "friend" anything that speaks, just to get the numbers up, has spread into Second Life; its "just the way its done, innit?" (I popped a "laugh" on your post because I found the mental picture, that instantly formed in my brain, of ‘joy sucking obligation potatoes’ growing in a "weird garden of accomplishment", quite delicious!)
  2. Two things will assist us here:- a) The exact error message that you receive when it crashes, and b) The information shown in Firestorm's Help -> About Firestorm. Use the "Copy to clipboard" button and then paste it here for us to see. It might point to some of the usual suspects. (You could also ask in the in-world Firestorm group). Once we've got a bit more information, we'll be better placed to help.
  3. Exactly this! I feel as if I'm doing something really bad when I have to hit the "Decline" button. This feeling of guilt then moves over to one of severe irritation, as the realisation that the technology has allowed somebody to push me into a corner; a corner that can only be escaped from by either bluntly declining their "very kind offer", or by giving in and accepting. There is, of course, the facility of Calling Cards, which will enable all the contact information required to be recalled just as quickly. This dark art appears to be unknown to many; it is certainly not often used.
  4. In internet terms, the word "friend" has become one of the the most corrupted words so far as meaning goes. Maybe I'm being old-fashioned, but I honestly believe that the word should mean what is what originally intended to mean - a person that you can enjoy for their company, rely on their support and be pleased to welcome them into a fair chunk of your life. Second Life is no better than Facebook in this flagrant encouragement of the misuse of this word, which has now come to mean nothing more than just "contact", except in a few special cases. I got so fed up with being offered Friend requests after just a few words with a stranger, and in some cases, not even one word with a stranger, I added this to my Profile front page:- "And *please* don't offer friendship on a first meeting. Let's get to know each other first; its just silly otherwise." ....and has it made a difference? NOT AT ALL! This is a battle I fear is lost.
  5. A magical misspelling appeared before my very eyes, many years ago, and might be just what is needed now:- Panamour Canal.
  6. Of course! I should have realised that that's why they're not listed on the Marketplace, and can only be purchased at the back of the store... (/me picks up the phone and calls the authorities)
  7. The Marketplace is full of items for the LatinBaby, but it doesn't seem possible to get an actual baby! I found the baby at Baby Store. Follow the link to their in-world store; you can find the baby there. (BABY STORE/161/162/49)
  8. There's a separate topic for the Second Life Viewer and you might get faster answers there but, in the meanwhile, go to your viewer's Help - About (top bar of your viewer) and copy/paste that entire page into here (or better - into the Second Life Viewer topic!). That might give some good information to get us on the track of the usual suspects.
  9. You engage a firm of management consultants, who put you in touch with a "Work Efficiently" specialist, who sub-contracts to a "Time management" specialist, who sells you a diary. Problem solved, and only US$52,000! Why didn't you think of this before? I wish I wasn't so gullible sometimes....
  10. You use your magnetic personality on one, the other uses its magnetic personality on you. In either case, you are now stuck for good... I wish I could remember where I put that silly little screwdriver for my spectacles.
  11. You are touching upon some of the realities of the "window dressing" measures that are being lauded at the moment. The UK news recently trumpeted that we had had our first ever "wholly-renewable-energy" day, but this only looked at the output factors. The incredibly high carbon footprint of manufacturing, installing, maintenance and ultimate renewal of these energy generation systems got conveniently ignored. The chances of even finding out what these really are, are not good. There is no doubt in my mind that we have got to make some serious changes to the way we view energy generation, supply and usage in the future, but I am very worried that we are being hoodwinked by popularist measures that, if looked at properly, achieve nothing and might even be making things worse. In the meanwhile, fart away to your heart's desire!
  12. Maybe, but I read that post as a highly sarcastic comment. Perhaps I was wrong, but I read it as a pointed rebuttal. I hope it was so.
  13. I keep mine and others' all turned off for two reasons;- (a) It drives me round the bend to be distracted by dancing crosses all over the place (especially in busier areas), and (b) I wouldn't want my dancing cross to be annoying anyone else. If I want to find out what Avatar "X" is wearing, I simply use my "avscan" gadget. Nobody even knows.
  14. And wouldn't it be nice if the Mods got out of bed earlier sometimes and stamped on things before they got nasty?
  15. You just had to spoil it, didn't you! You did - in the adverts for the Easter Bonanza sales. Be patient! I wish I had a new kitchen knife that would actually cut things.
  16. Granted! Vegan burgers are now so healthy that people are living to be 150 years old, taxes have gone sky-high to pay for their care and the forums are full of "it ain't like it used to be" observations. You run screaming to escape the tedium. I wish I could come up with some really good ideas this year.
  17. Even worse, cleverer than you are. I would hate that!
  18. I have no intention whatsoever of resorting to fast-food-finger-licking-disgusting fake-burgers. My Monday special, bubble and squeak, will do very nicely, thanks!😋
