  1. Yeah, I used your suggestion of the Bernice skin and shape. I might pair the shape with the Abigail skin...thinking about it. Thank you very much by the way! Still working on the avatar, though. I'm still open to other suggestions, especially now that I've provided a visual aid.
  2. This is kind of my idea of what I want: Maybe hair should be a little shorter...but otherwise it's fine.
  3. Last year I was able to buy a HP Laptop (8 GB Memory, Intel core i5 7th gen CPU) for around $500 from Best Buy. It's the computer I'm using right now and to browse Second Life.
  4. Just wanted to thank you both Lillith and Kristen for the suggestions! Those are some nice ideas, I'll look into them. Thanks again!
  5. First off, I want to make clear that I mean no offense by creating this type of avatar. I intend for this avatar to be inspired by a character in some of the stories that I write (a friendly restaurant manager). If for some reason the topic gets out of hand a mod can close it. Anyway, I'm looking to create a certain female avatar. The avatar is somewhat elderly (in her 60s), is overweight, and is black or African descent. She has short black hair (kinda like a pixie cut). Clothes should be appropriate for an older lady. I was wondering what products or other things I need to create such an avatar. I'm willing to use mesh. Thanks in advance.
  6. Not all my avatars are human-shaped...far from it! I have a lot of non-humanshaped avatars: Alien Shapeshifter (transforms into many animals and other objects) Dog Pikachu and some other Pokemon Parrot Cat
  7. None of my avis look like RL me. No options for overweight Filipino guys.
  8. I tried making one for one of my female avatars but failed because I couldn't produce a real life picture of her.
  9. I, like many other people, first heard of Second Life in 2003. While I always knew that sex would always be a part of a world that's only limited by the imagination, the media coverage didn't focus on the sex part but more on other stuff like the Linden economy and the bizarre avatars people could make. I think SL received mostly neutral coverage in its early days. I only became aware of the negative coverage in 2009 when I watched the movie "Gamer" which had a scene parodying SL. It had an overweight man control a real woman in a strange real life version of Second Life. He even gets her to have sex with a male character in the "game" while he watches in pleasure. I didn't join SL until 2010, but I didn't plan on having sexual stuff be my focus. I just wanted to make avatars of different kinds and having them interact with the inhabitants and explore the world in various ways (not necessarily sexual). Any negative things I heard about it didn't hinder me.
  10. I thought this would be an interesting topic to bring up considering the sexual assault and harassment allegations and the #MeToo campaign going on in real life. I am male in real life but some of my most used characters in Second Life are female human avatars. Needless to say, I have encountered stuff like my avis getting hit on and random compliments. Through SL and other MMOs I have experienced that women are treated a little differently than men. But my question (mainly to the women of the board) is the degree to which a female avi's experience in SL mirrors that of a woman's experience in RL. Does playing as a woman in SL let me know how women really feel in everyday life? And if so, to what degree? P.S. I'm sorry if the topic message seemed a bit vague...if you know me by now I'm not a good communicator....
  11. Just wondering if people do combat with the XCS system. I've been playing in Babylon City. P.S. I want to know how to change my class as well.
  12. Thanks for understanding what I meant. Yeah, communication is not my strongest asset....
  13. I meant #2 for the topic. For #1, I do care about well being of others (or at least try.) I do realize empathy is not my strongest point, though.
  14. I actually don't treat people like crap...sorry if I didn't communicate that clearly. I'm actually polite (for the most part) to other people. It's just...I meant to convey that I really don't care who's really behind an SL avatar.
  15. I try not to care very much...and I usually don't anyway. I view everyone else's avatars as NPCs in the RPG where my avatars are the player characters. But I suppose the only time I care about identities is if there's a real threat to safety in RL or something.
  16. I suppose. But it would probably be hard to make something like this, though: http://userimages-akm.imvu.com/userdata/70/31/44/08/userpics/Snap_gPJw4jWNoV267327601.jpg That's my avi in IMVU, by the way.
  17. One of my avatars in IMVU probably wouldn't be possible in Second Life...her hair is probably way too long.....
  18. Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it. So I suppose it's a normal price to pay but there are also cheaper alternatives, too.
  19. I recently paid L$5000 for a Catwa head for one of my female human avatars. I'm thinking about shelling another L$5000 for another head for another of my female human avis. While I'm fine with the results for my first avi, I'm just wondering if this is normal to pay such an amount just for this. I'm also asking if there are any cheaper (and/or better) alternatives....
  20. I don't even use social media like Facebook that much anymore. Although I do like using YouTube.
  21. I'll admit I learned a lot of stuff through the Internet. It improved me in some ways but hindered me in others. My life before the Internet was less stimulating but I suppose I had more of an imagination back then.
  22. Rachel's Place - A Shopping Mall Looking for a place to set up your store? Rachel's Place may be the answer for your solutions. This three-floor shopping mall houses 24 store spaces in a chic, modern, high-traffic setting. Price: L$50 per week for each store(50 Land Impact) Location: Quasar (Moderate) Land Impact: 50 per store, but I will make allowances for some more prims if there are fewer tenants in the mall. More info: Limit four spaces per person/account. You pay for each of the individual spaces you are renting(i.e. L$100 a week for two spaces.) Contact Gopi Passiflora if you are interested in renting a space.
  23. Thanks everyone for the advice! That all sounds pretty good.
