  1. A character from such a popular game is sure to violate the ToS. Give these a good, thorough read, and you will have a better understanding of Intellectual Property, Copyrights and SL in general..... LL Terms of Service http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Intellectual_Property http://secondlife.com/corporate/dmca.php
  2. So would it be safe to say they see Windlight Gallery as more of an asset to the SL Art Community than a detriment? The Destination guide in itself is curated by the Lab, if they are presented with an application for the DG which blatantly containts trademark violations in the title wouldn't that be a very quick and easy catch? Seeing as locations must meet a certain critera to be even considered, how have Windlight special event sims been featured multiple times without a single Lab employee saying "Hmmm, well that's violating terms etc etc."? I mean it's quite clear in the Destination guide info page that sims violating the Trademark Guidelines cannot even be considered, yet Windlight is being both Considered and Approved. Suggested venues must comply with all of the following: Community Standards Trademark Guidelines Terms of Service DMCA policy Snapshot and machinima Policy And of course just to be clear I am not trying to defend any one party, nor trying to throw anyone under the bus. I do have a rented gallery at Windlight's sim and regularly attend/participate in their events, so I am quite interested in what might happen....
  3. Brilliant Idea!! I quit the sticks 4 years ago, not sure if you're only targeting people currently quitting, or if it's a general support network! I'd love to get involved in any way I can :catvery-happy: #KICKBUTTS
  4. When you're looking for rentals, keep an eye on how they price in terms of Prims-per-Linden. Most rentals will hover between 1-2L$ per Prim weekly on your rental, anything over that and you should be worried! You may pay more per-prim if for example the rental is based in a busy community, waterfront property, or includes some sort of benefit. An example might be a small 512qsm parcel with 250 prims being rented for 300-400L$ a week. Now as for WHERE to go and find one, that is entirely up to you. There are companies that rent out skyboxes or skydomes, a favorite for those looking for privacy; there are also several renters of mainland parcels that can be quite interesting! Utilize the search tool, and simply use common sense. If you can find a company that has plenty of other "Active" rentals, this can be considered as a green safety flag showing there are other happy customers and the business will not be going anywhere soon. Red flags are rentals from individuals with no business credentials, or businesses with no other occupied rentals/units. Regardless how you do it, I would recommend simply paying week-by-week, don't pay a month or two up-front. Leave yourself open ended!!
  5. Several Windlight events have been featured in the Destination Guide over the past year, you'd think the Lab would have taken those many opportunities to make their point? It's quite clear while reading the brand guidelines that it's not allowed (ex. No Use in Your Branding. Do not use any Linden Lab brand name in your product or service name, your business or organization name, or your second-level domain name except as specifically allowed in our License To Use SL™ or inSL™.), but I am trying to think of why it has not been enforced? If LL hasn't knocked at Windlights door over the past year to confront them about this I seriously doubt they would rebrand at this point, even if the suggestion was based in factual copyright information.....
  6. Join us tonight at Saul's Place Cafe for a tribute to COHEED & CAMBRIA! Presented by DJ Lorbo, we will be taking a sonic journey through their discography. For those not familiar, C&C is a Modern Rock/Progressive band with a focus on unique songwriting and science-fiction concept albums. Music starts at 5pm SLT.
  7. The Group trick is usually the easiest way honestly, especially if you have a parcel that is open to the public. If your parcel is not a "Public Space", you can manage your parcel to only allow certain listed residents via About Land -> Access. If you only allow access to your friend and keep all land permissions open that should solve the problem.
  8. You can only add a "Profile Picture" and a "Real World Profile Picture" to your account profile, both of which can be uploaded by visiting my.secondlife and "editing" your profile.
  9. All users can access Billing Support 24/7 Alternately, Premium Users can connect with LL directly via Live Chat Support All other inquiries must be submitted via Support Case Forms, in your case under Billing.
  10. "LOL" - means Lots of Laughs...... pretty hard to miss that one..... "Walks away shaking head" - how on earth is that helpful in any way? There wasn't even a useful direct link given by that post. You don't need to "Sugar Coat" something with smily faces to not be Abrasive and Condecending. Who would read that post and even consider still learning about SL?....Maybe it seemed helpful to YOU because you have a better understanding of the situation, but not to a noob who stated many many times that they were new, uneducated and looking for advice. Regardless, I like to believe my comment applies to the entire forum and not just this thread, even though this thread now seems like a microcosm of the whole thing.
  11. As much as I love this forum, it can be unapologetically condescending.... Any and all information could have been given to OP without Laughing at him or berating him for not closely reading the TOS..... No wonder new user retention is so low. Good luck in your future adventures Nyrvachan, peace and love!
  12. Can you provide some more information? Where are you running into problems Logging in...
  13. If you ARE interested in social interation as a byproduct of residential living, you might consider looking into some RolePlay communities, or commuinities with a theme, as they tend to keep stricter guidelines for residents building while at the same time encouraging interaction and reliable longevity! As an example, places like Caledon offer a large grid of Steampunk themed goodness, with parcel rentals available for home or businesses with an incredibly friendly community! You might have better luck finding what you're looking for outside of private estate rentals.... I am also providing a list of Suburban/Residental themed RolePlay sims! They each have their own rules and RP flexibility, but it can make a big difference being in an area with themed housing and roads/sidewalks rather than banlines and jagged mountain boundries between parcels ^-^ Best of luck in your seach for a place, Nalytha! Cumberland City Fairfield County Bridgeport Giano Properties Community of Catawissa Orchard Heights Nightengale
  14. It's 50/50 for me. I tend to purchase Texture Packs, bundles of 6-10 or more textures, wheras if I just need something specific or individual I create and upload the texture myself! I recall a recent purchase, i bought 6 hexagon-style cement flooring textures for over 100L$ just because they were just what I wanted and getting 6 different yet similar textures would have been too time-cosuming for me to design and upload myself!
  15. Gorgeous looking shots! Cannot wait to visit....

    Phone App

Lumiya Viewer App is the closest you will get. There is no official LL SL application.
  17. King, I was able to connect to Live Chat Support just fine, checked at 11:20 AM PST. Bidding service seems to be working fine as well, perhaps it is an issue with your connection or your browser?
  18. You can change your Avatar at any point using Skins, Shapes and sometimes Mesh. All of your purchases will remain in your inventory. The worst thing that can happen is you will need to re-adjust all your outfits with your new avatar.
  20. Open your "Preferences" window inside Second Life, then navigate to the "Advanced" tab on the left. There should be a slider marked "UI Size". Sliding this up and down will adjust the size of the entire user interface.
  21. You could say that, yes. I feel as though someone at the same time could claim that Linden Labs has a Pure Monopoly on SL and the marketplace. Ever since XStreet SL and 3rd party shopping are no longer allowed (presumably to encourage more in-world shopping) and SL Marketplace, power seems increasingly on the side of the Labs as opposed to the private interests creating all the contents. Interesting questions posed for sure, I think it will take a bit more deep thinking beyond current "physical" economic definitions.
  22. A monopoly is the exclusive possession or control of the supply or trade in a commodity or service. How one "Usually" comes to being in a RL economy should not apply. In SL it might work a bit differently, for example a company can become a monopoly by providing a high-quality product at a low price point. Years ago the furniture market almost completely collapsed because of a singler seller/company creating low prim/low cost products that competed with everything else being sold on the market at the time. To me that would be a solid way to position a monopoly on an industry, blow all competators out of the water, you would not need to "Buy Out" any other company at all. As for supply and demand, it is also different in a digital environment where things are not likely to be "Consumed", so you might need to bend your concepts a bit. When Mesh became a possibility, there was obviously a demand for new mesh products from avitars to houses and decorations, a demand which was then supplied by all the content creators and merchants. Also, "All items on the market have unlimited supply" is simply false. The slightest effort of research will show that non-copy/transfer items can increase in value after initial sales, that is why the Gacha scene is so popular in SL. Limited edition "Rare" objects can develop value over time, since they cannot be duplicated in-world.
  23. No. Only LL can ban a user via IP address. There is no way for the viewer client to recognize your IP address, only user identification information, hence only banning by user name. You can file abuse reports for the user and their alts, but there is no guarantee that LL will follow through.
  24. Interesting to think about though. SecondLife can function as a chat platform just like Skype or Instant Messangers, so to think that LL could utilize the profile system allowing people to use an APP to create an account and chat with people is not that extreme. In fact, having an APP like this might even draw some attention or new users to SL, at very little risk or cost to the Lab. I think it's just a matter of developing it and implementing it in a creative way that's troubling, i doubt LL has their sights set on anything like this regarding SL, if anyone is working on anything for mobile I think we can rest assured that effort is going towards Project Sansar...
