  1. You're not even kidding ? The Newb asked, they got a legit response. Still, turn it into a hate fest if that's your thing.
  2. Did my RL morning coffee at the hub again this morning. I don't know what the mentors go through with 'Voice', like you I never use it. So it was text begging but not much of it. Todays was 'How do I make money' ? I lolled, but the Mentors suggested build and sell on MP among other suggestions. That's the moment I realised it was a legit query with money making indeed catered for in SL. It also cemented my understanding that I'd never make the grade as a mentor Anyway, there was 32 avatars there at one point ! Again a grand mixture of oldbies, newbies, moles and the inevitable socially inept. Even that's semi understandable now, the possibilities must excite and newness carrying one away with the new found freedom to interact. I dont try to mentor or help, but 20 times an hour I get tempted too, chuckles. I've learned to say shtum and interact with the hello's and general chat and keep my ideas of helping to myself, which is probably no bad thing My heart also aches for those trying hard, genuinely trying hard, and lets be honest it is not easy to get a good avatar going. To see the possibilites and not be able to get there must be frustrating as can be, probs frustating enough for some to think 'cant do it', logging off never to be seen again. Thank goodness for the mentors who are most definately helping retention on that score. In summary, it's working, it's working well, and long may that continue. imho. Oh, and anyone popping in to see what's what, try the cannons ! Hilarious !
  3. Today I learned that 56C / 133F can be hilarious (furnace creek, death valley)
  4. I hung out there again today for an hour or so. I really like it. Surprisingly busy, always a mentor or three popping in and out. Viola doing a great job. True newbies progressing is a pleasure to witness. Sadly there's a good sprinkling of the socially inept popping up with trash talk quite often, and linden beggars and the like. Thats why I couldn't ever be a mentor. Not got the patience or the skills to handle the more demanding side of it. But the grand mixture of oldies newbies and mentors makes for a most interesting session all in all. It's working well. Hope that continues a long time.
  5. Some great ideas embedded in these here posts. I'm back there right now, just sat 'monitoring'. It's fair to say LL has gone to considerable effort updating the hub. Excellenty laid out and planned, no garish eye candy blitzing the graphics card, fresh clean new mentors, viola mole popping by, avs from new to old popping in and out. Ingrids games ideas should be taken onboard by LL imho. Not being a mentor, nor wanting to be one, this is how I am hoping to generate newbie interest....
  6. Hmmm. Maybe its a feature not a bug. Mystery Tour !
  7. Quite enjoyed the visit and things seemed fairly active, engaged mentors and lots of avvies about the place. Nicely laid out too. So I guess sticking 'em in a box of teleporters may not have been my greatest idea "get new users interested, hunts, bowling, whack-a-mole (the game), roller skating, a shooting gallery, rides. Free, interactive stuff aside from gambling." Good thinking Ingrid
  8. We've popped in ... 25 avvies currently ! secondlife://WelcomeHub/130/86/25
  9. See a brand new player would likely think 'whats a holodeck' ? That's why I think being a given a choice of teleports ( and little or nothing else ) would get them thinking and reading the teleport info, then making a choice, their first ever in sl, whilst instantly learning about teleporting by the experience of selecting one. But hey I'm no expert and hardly know what I'm on about, just thinking 'what would keep them here'
  10. A simplified welcome area, perhaps a large room, with a set of teleporters might be easier for truly new avatars ? Each teleporter for a different learning lesson. ? Like 'Finding a home', 'Events for new folk' (motown), 'Customise your appearance' and 'Sandboxes and building in SL'. No ? ok.
  11. Perhaps there were conversations going on between mentors and newbies in IM chat, which would account for quiet local chat. ? Perhaps not, who knows.
  12. Sweet scripting, QA. Anyway for the op, llTextBox(llGetOwner() is why your getting the box - you're the owner. llTextBox(llDetectedKey(0) will pick up the first avatar to click it. Also I like randomising the channel number of the listener using one of these plagarised code lines so the ch number becomes unique to the owner... integer MySecretChannel = (integer)("0xF" + llGetSubString(llGetOwner(),0,6)); -------------------- integer channel() { return (integer)("0x"+llGetSubString((string)llGetOwner(),-8,-1))*-1; }
  13. Hi happy sl'ers ! Firestorm > World > Destinations is not populating for me. Joy said give it a few moments and it will populate but it still hasn't after ten minutes. Is this problem general or is it something I may have inadvertently turned off, any ideas ?
  14. ADULT 512m plot on Uxert selling with contents (all adult furniture). Bargain 5000L$ http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Uxert/40/98/35
  15. Convinced I can spot second lifers in RL just by how they dress. Always a bit ... different. Unusual. Interesting. Maybe I'm kidding myself, maybe not. I never say anything mind.
  16. Watching Joy landscape the parcels edge ..
  17. Setting Perms before sale. Upon completion of a scripted build it is common to make the script copy only . Edit > contents > Perms>yes copy and yes mod and apply. Now right click the script in content and set its perms alone to copy only. Now edit the build with a right click and make it yes copy yes mod. Take to inventory. Right click the object in inventory. You will see yes mod has unticked itself. Re tick the yes mod in the item sat in inv. Now its yes copy yes mod for next owner but with your script yes copy only and safe from plagarism. The really important thing to get is that a yes copy yes mod item with a yes copy only script inside will lose its yes mod availablity when taken back into inv and yes mod must be reticked in inv. People get hacked off by no mod which is why I prefer to keep my stuffs yes copy yes mod available to purchasers but with the scripts (hours of brain ache lol) protected by yes copy only so they can't be opened. There are other ways to do this, of course, I'm just sharing my preferred way of setting perms.
  18. Next day here. Tried again. Still page one only
