Additionally there is a new way to create them with an alpha .tga texture, seemingly over some attached mesh, but I am not 100% certain of the exact reasons yet. That has some interesting creative potential and an equal amount of annoyance. People have multiple shaders, multiple TPVs, multiple video drivers, multiple operating systems (potentially - although I think the bug is shaders and not at a higher level OpenGL) - and all this variation makes an "invisiprims no longer work now" blanket statement somewhat wrong. Invisiprims still remain the only way to create the drydock efect in Nautilus harbour, where the Moles removed a block of water to allow the ship inside to be worked on. Quite a lovely thing to see! Many boats also use them still to hide water in the keel. Hopefully the viewer devs that have this bug can work on their code or shaders and fix it for those affected so the landscaping and sailing content relying on them is seen by everyone. Bugs that kill existing creative content are always sad.

Liondandy wrote: seems a bit of a glitchy way todo things but works and seems to get used a fair bit, are there any downsides to doing this kind of mod? does it double to download of the user or does the body only have to load once(second from cache) ? It's a glitch for tattoos/wet layers for sure, but it seems to work well. On data - I have checked this extensively - It will only download the mesh once then take it from cache as long as it knows it, so that is not a problem. Where the problem comes from is that everyone around you will be dealing with twice the number of triangles being drawn. This causes a small amount of drawing/panning lag, especially in a full sim for people with lesser video cards. You can use the developer menu in firestorm to get the exact figures. Of the ones in my inventory: TMP Body Only = 50 KTris Slink Body Only = 34 KTris SMB = 18 KTris Todledoo = 100 KTris Totsytween = 14 KTris Avatar 2,0 = 15 KTris TWI Wolf Body Only = 25 KTris To put these numbers in perspective, a 2 year old video card would be around 50 MTris capable at 30 fps.

One could of course put it in an inappropriate area . Yes, and the support team don't mind if you are polite and explain the situation.
  4. Alpha of textures onto mesh causes an "invisprim effect" for some people. It looks like holes in things. Very annoying as I alphed a skin, applied it to a mesh body and boom, people standing behind me were cut in half, water went missing, stuff like that. If you turn on advanced lighting in your graphics preferences it should go away.

  6. Support Ticket is the easiest way. I've done it many times that way, supply enough details and they usually clean things up very efficiently. The Lindens don't really read this forum often so it's a little pointless posting about griefing in it. By the time they see it the issue has been reported by another resident.
  7. The best I have found is https://www.mrmonke.net/anigifTolsl Highly recommended and leaves Perigrine for dead.
  8. yeah, Animations have been broken since maybe mid December and I think it's Firestorm because these weirdnesses happened about the time we got the fix for people's smilers causing a crash. I have a bunch that used to loop that now stop animating after 2 or 3 loops. And often I will terminate an animation and it will keep playing - even after stop animations is hit. Needs a relog to actually get the animation to stop.
  9. Theresa Tennyson wrote: These simulations run 24 hours a day, every day at a minimum of 8 simulations per second even if nobody is actually accessing it. Actually no, simulators power down to standby when there are no agents inside and no children looking in. If you fly or sail at speed it's quite common to hit a simulator that is off and need to wait until it powers up so you can cross into it. But as for the rest of your waffle about how ineffecient it is: The basic idea of a euler space representaion (X/Y/Z) of the physical world is still sound, although recently there was a resurgence of octree space representation (aka Voxels) that became possible with advances in computer technology and we know that went into worlds like Daybreak's Landmark, High Fidelity and from what I have read Octree space representation will also be used in Linden Lab's new Gaming Development Platform Sansar. This is neither efficient or inefficient, it's computer science. If you have an object in 3D space, how do you define it's position and rotation. You can choose Euler or Octree. Asset server, well, we have seen great improvements with teh CDN, so your whole waffle about socks is moot now. Bah, office meetings, education and programming lessons won't do it. Cheaper teir might, but ever since Jack Linden and M messed around with Homesteads with the aim of driving away people and closing the world down we have really known the direction LL want to take. Sad as it is, we are well into the Long Tail we were all discussing back in 2007, so well into it we are in the last gasps and final death throws. And we only have to watch the Lindex to see that dramatically.
  10. Willow Dion wrote: Why has Linden Lab chosen to insult its existing Second Life user base both by setting Project Sansar as a separate new product and allowing access to the developing future project by only those few it deems worthy? Because, like HiFi and now Unity, it's not SL, and it never will be. The sooner people in SL stop calling it SL2 and holding it out as "the next best hope" the better. We are not the target market and we will watch SL wither for another 10 years as a whole new group of people write games for the masses over in Sansar.

  12. Animations are usually made for a certain size avatar and based on the height of the hip above the ground. If you are shorter than the norm then you tend to sink into things. This was complicated a few months back when the Lab also improved hoverheight. If that slider is wrong then you may be offset in a different way - even outside of the norm with larger/smaller than usual characters. In most of the TPV viewers there is an interactive hoverheight slider that lets you quickly and easily raise or lower yourself. That slider is usually accessable from the quick menu button on the bottom right of the screen. On Firestorm it looks like a phoenix. This should be 0 cm for no change, or you can move it right to lift you by that many cm or left to lower you by that many cm
  13. May also be worth checking your Linden$ balance in game. Some groups will sneakily charge you fees. If your L$ drop below zero then the Lab will try to recover that. If your L$ balance is not below 0 then this is less likely, but it's always a good idea to watch group liabilities anyway!
  14. Aldenwise wrote: Premium means nothing today, as I told LL if they do nothing I will quit being premium and move to private sim and they can kiss my tier and $72 per annum goodbye. If you move to a private sim the Lab generally make more money from you. That is in addition to offloading much of the support onto the estate owner. A Win-Win for the lab. All premiums get concierge level support now. Have you tried a live chat rather than a ticket?

  16. At least you don't have a 10" schlong to go with the boobies and oversized hips as seems to be the current flavour of the month. But, that said, it's the land-owner who sets the rules and standards. Learn to live with that, because the rest of us have.
  17. I'm a little bit of a sailing and flying fanatic and I love this sort of thread. Kless I love that and laughed so hard, thank you, you made my day. That was truely wonderful. Vulpinus, congratulations on joining the sailing fraternity too. I hope you have as much fun as all of us! On orbs. Well, try being 154cm or 168cm tall depending on my mood I have been hit with orbs that instantly eject people shorter than 6'. No warning at all. You are skippering a boat with crew and passengers and suddenly Whoosh "You have been ejected because you are too small" and a page full of IMs from your friends wondering where you went. It would be lovely if people were considerate though and kept orbs to their house alone. (it's a huge personal gripe of mine as I sail and fly so much) As for tight squeezes even the wonderful Blake Sea is not really immune, but maybe not as bad as your (dare I say) Back Yard Passage through the shoals? It can be hard to get into Ahab's Haunt, especially if you hit one of the sim crossings at the three chokepoints wrong and are trying not to cheat by fudging a perfect wind direction. A picture of my schooner nears Ahab's. I love her, maybe the best ship in Secondlife in my opinion, but I am after fun more than speed and this with 9 controllable sails and the best rudder system I've used is a true joy to sail.
  18. Also, welcome. Prior to 2010 we use to hand the Community Managers cookies and flameproof suits. Here is one of each!
  19. Gasp. I think this is the first linden to show their face here since 2010 when M Linden banned them from talking to us. Your post count of 1 confirms that. Suffice to say, it's good that this thread actually got the problem solved when the ticket WAS IN THERE. Why wasn't the ticket actioned instead? Will it take a rant thread now to get the Lindens to act on each of our tickets? So here is my Rant thread, hopefully it will get some movement. My partner was hacked last night, he is premium and German with poor English skills. He can't lodge a ticket as his premium account becasue.... it was hacked. So he made an alt and submitted a non premium ticket in broken English. At the same time I submitted a premium ticket (we both own a sim on mainland) and asked them kindly to expedite him as they would if he were premium. My tiocket was answered within 10 minutes, saying "They can't use mine as a link because of privacy and Because his alt is not premium he will have to wait his turn with the free players... the ones who don't pay a sim's teir and buy god know how many Linden a month" Now we come to a day later, 6pm on Friday. As forum threads DO seem to get results, how about fixing this one for us? Yes, I am angry, I've lost time planned with my partner, he has DJ gigs he can't do, we have a club to run.
  20. Because I abor seeing an author's words mangled L'ecriture ne soulage guere. And I add some more. Something that has little to do with "mathematics" La connaissance n’apporte pas la souffrance. Expect the rabble, those who can only speak one language, to be up in arms with this heresay. SPEAK ENGLISH DAMNIT< IF GOD HAD MEANT US TO SPEAK ITALIAN HE WOULD HAVE NEVER INVENTED PINEAPPLE PIZZA ((haha, on posting this, it errored: "The message body contains <c cedilla>, which is not permitted in this community. Please remove this content before sending your post. And so, the illiterate rabble win out and I need to mangle the French))
  21. As it's not a lot of money I'd give it all away in a donation to my favourite club(s) and sim(s). They deserve it for all the fun and entertainment they allow me to have on their land and in their clubs.
  22. Woohoo, I can get into adult rated clubs now! Take that every dance club with a "You must be 8' or taller to enter" sign. Not so happy it think's I am a gurl though. (Edit: For those that don't know me, this is my 12 year old form - Weirdly my 18 year old form scaled as being MUCH younger)
  23. My world at the moment. Sadly, only in peak times, and only since the CDN went in. 11 minutes later, I still stand here and it's still not much more rezzed.
  24. Crim Mip wrote: The absolute max framerate that the SL servers will send is 45. There is literally no difference in the view of somebody getting 45 FPS and somebody getting 95FPS in SL. If you are seeing anything above that it means your video card is just duplicating frames waiting for data for a new one and you can safely turn up some settings. Please do not get server "frame rate" of 22.1ms and your video cards redraw rate mixed up. They are two completely seperate things. As long as the object is not physically moving (in this case llObjectRot and other viewer side effects don't count) As long as you are not talking about avatars walking/flying (in this case dancing and other animations don't count) then the vast majority of SL content you recieve once when it rezzes and it stays there with updates happening only over a 2 to 3 second period. You can verify this in the advanced menu - turn on the update beacons and octrees to see. That prim you just rezzed ain't goin' anywhere - so the server doesn't need to tell you it's (and all 15,000 other objects) position 45 times a second. Once every 2 to 3 seconds is fine, and saves a lot of internet quota too. With the objects your video card knows of, it can draw it as fast as it likes, because at that point it's viewer side. As I mentioned before, when you spin/turn then a faster FPS is a huge benefit.
  25. Hi Xiola, Welcome to the forums in your CM role. I would love to see more of you here, interacting and making the forums a better place. I would also adore to see Lindens in world and interacting with Residents again. When you look at other games you see the sucess the community teams have every day, but for so long these forums have been mouldering and rotting, because past CEO edicts stopped you being in our community. To answer your question - since 2006 SL and my being here has had a huge, life changing impact on my life. SADLY I will not disclsoe how, because the trolls and nasty people your company have allowed to breed and flourish in this venue will rip me to shreds. Have a great day and don't be a stranger.
