  1. 1) I'd avoid shoes with huds, they are too time consuming to work. There are some places to get shoes without huds, but those are for viewer 2. Also, I've never seen one avatar with the correct tinting to their hud shoe feet. So get some clogs and boots almost free by doing a 0 to 10 linden shoe hunt and boot hunt. There are great boots for about 25 to 50 lindens. Don't buy the sculpty boots, they make your avatar feet look 10 sizes too big, and that's not girlie. 2) Don't kill the scripts in your hair. I did this and it made my hair awful and know I have to repurchase my hair again. So don't always listen to people who tell you to kill the scripts. At least keep them in your hair because the hair flows a whole lot better. And, my SL has been no faster, no slower since killing the scripts in my hair. Just remember lag happens and is most likely due to high traffic times in your RL area and just on the net in general. I love girlie stuff. I couldn't live without it! As far as dresses and jewelry, let us know some of your tastes and I'm sure you will get pointed in the right direction. Such as do you want classy sexy or trampy sexy let it all hang out look, or the gothic sexy look, or the fill in the blank. Give us some idea of what you are looking for, and I'm sure you will be pointed in the right direction. Or find a picture of a celebrity you like who dresses a certain way, post a link here, and say I admire this style of clothing. You can also refine your search on Marketplace, to women's footwear, outfits, bottoms, etc, (I don't remember all the categories off hand) and also search with the pricing guide which you can pull up by clicking on 'see all categories' located near the lower left of the Marketplace page (sometimes you need to scroll down a bit to see the 'see all categories', but the see all categories brings up your pricing search.) ETA: On Marketplace page, click Apparel, then click women's, and then you will have sub-categories to choose from. I also think some jewelry might be under Avatar accessories, but can't remember right this moment, and need to log off.
  2. I'd recommend this little trick I found if you have viewer 2 with basic and you can't log in. Switch and log into basic. Get going and move around a little on basic. Log out again and switch back to advanced. This little trick has worked for me before. Why? Not exactly sure, but one thing is that on basic your inventory won't download, but at least the viewer is starting to recognise you and will get going. It's worked for me a couple of times, and I was very happy! You could also try another viewer as has been suggested here, and I certainly hope you don't lose your items, that would be sad becuz they kind of become a part of your RL memories. Hang in there!
  3. Do you mean: What experiences and memories do you have about SL that will be interesting to share?
  4. Yes, they can, read Keeper Karu's post about the rules which is on page one of this thread. (hope I got Keeper's name right, sorry if I didn't, always multi-tasking). But martial arts doesn't sound like it's going to be bloody. So I think u r ok if you want to go General, just read Keeper's post again on Page one of this thread.
  5. Oh yes I did miss that... I thought you were talking about your real home (rofl). But, that's great that's over. But no, you can't have an email where you put in the wrong birthday whether it's intentional or a typo when you are on SL. They need all the info to line up exactly as payment goes through your bank account or credit card. So it all has to match.
  6. I think SL is worth it. However, I've talked to some SL widows like me in SL. They like SL, their significant other doesn't. About all you can do is change your internet service provider and start all over again. IF, he thinks SL is worth it. And if you and your fiance think it's worth it to change your internet provider. If not, we need a SL widows/widowers group.
  7. Okay, download Google Chrome if you haven't already and SET Google Chrome as your default browser. Next, after downloading Google Chrome (also if you haven't already), click on use "built-in browser" which in V2 is Google Chrome. Doing this in V2 not only speeds up the loading of sims, but you get a whole other completely different destination guide, which is a much better destination guide with a lot more info. I got a completely different destination guide with a lot more info when I did these steps. Try doing that to see if you get that different destination guide, which is a much more way cool destination guide. I love it and the Google Chrome along with click on use built-in browser is so much faster! I luvs it, and I hope it keeps working for me! ETA: Some people reading this might go where is that use 'built-in browser' thing. It's in your preferences and I can't remember exactly where at this time, but should be easy to find if you go through all the preferences, like media, graphics, etc. It's in there somewhere. Also, don't keep throwing away viewers and reinstalling too many things as this can cause registry errors. You may have a registry mechanic built into your software bundle somewhere that you can run if indeed you are uninstalling/reinstalling a lot of software, etc. But it's not really a good idea to keep uninstalling/reinstalling as it causes patch leaks.
  8. Psytrance drools and needs to fall of the face of the earth as it's not artistic in any way whatsoever, nor would any good music critic consider that a form of music as all it is relooping sounds that anyone could write it. Take some of my advice PC, I've been around a lot of successful Dj's the ones making very good money and they avoid trance, rap, dance remixes and make loads of moola. Now they might put one or two rap songs here or there or one dance remix and that is a lot more "sane". Not to mention I grew up in the professional music industry, so I know have a lot of knowledge I can share in IM if you are interested, PC. But, I'd say start to grow a tried and true music library, then add some really great songs that no one else is playing. Keep adding songs so you don't do your playlist over and over because that will eventually make u lose customers. So add new songs weekly.
  9. awwwwwwwww, Ceka. Can't he override this somehow by giving credit card/banking info, along with his driver's license or last four digits of SL number? Tell him to get another email account and make sure all his birthday info and everything in that email account is 100% correct; have him double check all his info before he starts up that email account. Another way to possibly override this block is to set up a Paypal account maybe? I'm sure LL has it set up this way to not only to block kids from getting on adult grids, but also to help avoid credit card fraud, etc. Now if a kid gets ahold of Mom or Dad's info, well that would be blocked by the next time someone gets their credit card bill or uses their Paypal account. I'm not sure what Mom and Dad would do to their kid for doing this, however. Punished with no internet for a year or more maybe, who knows?
  10. Now that picture should draw in some business for SL.
  11. @ Peggy, I don't think the OP was doing any harm. The general discussion area says "discuss things as they pertain to SL and RL" (or something like that). However, Peggy I also agree with you that in SL we could not stay true to a particular number all the time, because there are variables, but I thought it was an interesting topic. Also @ Peggy /me wants to hang with Peggy and learn more about the live musicians scene. @ Ceka, I also agree that giving out info is dangerous on the net, but I also think a lot of people ask "where are from" either because it is hard to know what to say or they are trying to hack into your computer (I'm never sure which), although a better greeting line is "how are you and how long have you been on SL"; now that's a good conversation starter and that's what I usually say. However, if you don't give a street address, but just say a country, I doubt someone could find me or hack into my computer? ETA: Oh yeah, rezz dates. The reason I ask how long have u been on SL, 'cuz guess what, my computer takes forever to load someone's profile, forever, so I don't read them, but I'd suspect the majority do read profiles or IOW 'can' read profiles without it taking forever to load one. My own profile takes forever to load. I have not read one profile in SL yet because of this issue of it taking forever to load, not one profile. Also, about the "where are you from" line, I often wonder if people are trying to trick me to see if I will lie and that's not appreciated. A better greeter line than would be: What are some of your favorite hangouts. I ask that one also.
  12. That's funny because "where are you from" is usually the question I get asked first. I don't mind answering at all because I'm not looking to hook up with any avatar. I'm here to chit chat about this and that and even included politics if it comes up, tho in RL I have no trust in politicians whatsoever. I like to talk about music, that's why I'm here. Yes I know I could go to youtube or just listen to the radio, but it's that experience of everyone listening to a great song at the same time in the moment and enjoying that in the moment experience is what makes SL great to me. Also, sharing a song with a friend who you think might like a certain song they have never heard that's a fun experience. SL can offer some great musical experiences for music lovers the world over. However, the local chat is what is roll on the floor funny. I prefer local chat over IM anyday. IM's are not terribly funny, but local chat is great fun. I sometimes play a character in local chat. A dumb blonde. lol My number, oh maybe 5. Neutral like Switzerland.
  13. I'd also recommend no dance remixes as again there is soooooooooooo much far, far greater music than dance remixes. I say avoid dance remixes, except maybe for one or two if you like them. Dance remixes are not good music to listen to.
  14. Yeah, definately mic. One genre? ummmm, I'd say most likely no, mix up/change up is best. One genre could work for like a folk club or a themed type dance. I have lots of books at home, but that's not going to help you, so I decided to look up some websites and found these: http://classicrock.about.com/od/recommendationsandreviews/a/top100_bands.htm http://classicrock.about.com/od/top500songs/qt/top500_songs.htm No-no's for me: Don't metal people to death. Don't play Country when the sim theme is Rock and play a variety of Rock genres not just metal. Rap and trance are pretty crappy imo, don't care for them and probably never will, as there is so much far greater music than rap or trance. But if you like rap, play one or two, not a whole set. Also, throw some great surprise songs in your set, such as something the other Dj's are not playing over and over and over. Add a little spice of life with some great rarely played music on SL but keep it upbeat and danceable and related to the sims theme. I'm sure there is more info you could find on the net about music but those two websites I thought had some great info. Good luck, PC!
  15. rofl. Okay, I'll try to get over my awkwardness, 'cuz I enjoy hanging around women, but I prefer men. I enjoy looking at some of the male avatars, some are very cute dudes and almost everyone has been so courteous in IM, with the exception of one. We were in IM and I asked him if he'd like to show me around the adult grid because I've not been there yet, and he answered back "You wanna have sex?" :matte-motes-agape: So I answered back "No!" ETA: That ended that discussion, and I thought "how rude". That was rude.
  16. I didn't think there'd be any violence. So please add me too! Write our names down and contact those of us who are interested when you get it going, and let us know what type of outfits we need, too. This sounds like fun! You have a good idea here, me thinks. ETA: But how to market: General or moderate, I'd pick moderate if I had to chose. But that is a good question! General or moderate? hmmmmmm? Well, I say moderate, I guess. That is a hard one to chose. I only go to G sims for shopping or if it's just a nature walk, something like that. I'm adult verified but mostly on moderate. It's too bad you can't run a poll to get some idea of what the SL population thinks. If you choose General, still add me tho.
  17. Oh sure, a person could find their SL or RL love anywhere. In RL a plane, a train, a cafe, through family or friends, at a library, or just walking down the street. Who knows? Love just hits us. However, I don't know if I'd feel all that comfortable going to a lesbian club when I'm not a lesbian because I'd feel like I was false advertising myself. In SL this would be easy to overcome tho by just buying one of those tag things where I could write something such as "Partnered to Spaceman, just here to mingle with my sistas!" or something like that. That would make me feel more comfortable because I wouldn't want to lead anyone on. I also always tell male avatars that IM me that I'm just here to dance and have fun, no partnering. So I don't lead them on either. But I would feel a little uncomfortable having women IM me in a lesbian club. I might feel awkward and not know what to say, so I think I'd feel more comfortable with some kind of tag that let's them know I'm just here to visit my sistas and hang with my female peers 'cuz I love women as people and friends. In RL tho if I went to a Lesbian bar, I think I'd be false advertising myself, if I were single that is. Businesses in SL and in RL are set up to cater to a specific something or other, such as I have a restaurant club fairly near where I live that throws a sock hop 50's rock n roll event once a month and it's packed with people from all who love that retro era. If people don't go to the sock hop, it's not because they are prejudice against 50's music and sock hop dancing, it's just not a type of music they like. Businesses in RL and SL are not prejudice, but they are catering. That's just a fact of life. ETA: Defin of catering as in definition 2. 1. to provide food, service, etc., as for a party or wedding: to cater for a banquet. 2. to provide or supply what amuses, is desired, or gives pleasure, comfort, etc. (usually followed by to or for ): to cater to popular demand; to cater to an invalid.
  18. Ceka, what u said here. Yes, I have clubs that I know are open 24/7, so I don't need to join the group. I can just pop in at anytime. If the Dj is playing country, rap, or trance when it says it's a rock club, I listen for awhile to see if the Dj will change up; and, if no change up happens, I go check out another Dj at a 24/7 club/sim to see what they're playing. There are a few I know of. So group joining is not always even necessary, though I would like to go to a costume party one of these days. One group I was in would throw a costume event once in awhile, but it was like only the staff knew because I never got a notice it was going to be a costumed event, and I didn't want to go and change since the event was already starting.
  19. I think I'm lucky I guess because my rl bf deals with the spam on our emergency family email. He deletes; I don't have too. There's also text now, so don't need email, except maybe for Ebay, because there is Facebook also to look up someone's new photos of their baby for instance, without having to open all that email and having to sort through all that spam. Facebook is faster and less time consuming to see new photos or their videos, etc. In my second paragraph, from what I got from this thread, is that there is a lot of spam in the email account I set up to use for SL (which is NOT our emergency family email). What I'm saying is that I have never revisited that email ever since I started SL and I'm not even sure what's in there? I thought I'd go and look and report back to this thread just how many emails there are in that SL email account since I've NEVER looked in that SL email account I created just for SL. Since this spam is autogenerated, I brought up the idea of if you are a creator/merchant, you could get an alt and just visit your own store to avoid the autogenerated spam. I brought this up because I thought you might be a merchant, and how could you get your business done with all that spam? It would be difficult. /me going to check that SL email and see how many spams are in there. With that one email account I had over 3,000 spam posts to delete and I just wasn't going to sit there and delete over 3,000 spam posts. So, I decided to give up. I can't stand email anymore. If I were a merchant tho, I'd need an email, I'd gather? ETA: Nope, can't access that email at this time because I thought I remembered the password, but it says wrong password. I'd need to do a password search to retrieve that password. Geez, I thought I remembered it. Anyhow, I never had any intention of ever going back to that email account I started, which is just for SL. It's password hunt time for me when I get some time.
  20. Ooooooooo, I like your idea about martial arts. I'm a female so I would not want something gorry, but learning some self defense moves I think would be fun!
  21. Well would this paper shredder work if you're not there say for 30 days as you mentioned? If not, you'd still get back to SL in a month and have 300 notices. I don't think it's that weird of a gripe. I mean there is twitter or they could be courteous and send a notecard of the scheduled events. Chat flooding is annoying and makes me NOT want to join groups, so people lose business that way. I hardly join any groups for that very reason. I think I have one group at this time, and that's all. I just don't join groups because of the chat flooding. 500 messages? That's just too much. I'm not on SL just for that one group nor sim.
  22. Yes, I've noticed this too. SL can be more laggy when there is a lot of traffic. I remember dial-up when everyone was trying to get online on the weekends; is was just so slow trying to even get on the internet on weekends, and also a lot of traffic when people get home from work, or to try to even access my internet at Christimas-time because of all the Christime-time internet traffic. Early in the morning, SL can run great for me with no lag whatsoever and is the best time for me to adjust a lot of settings or work on my avatar, do photos, etc. Cable is great, but it gets clogged at times just like dial-up used too. Oh yes and welcome ChelseaLuce! There is a lot of helpful reading on here, but it depends on what viewer u r using also as to what info pertains to your type of viewer. ETA: Another helpful hint is to make sure you have rebooted in case anything has updated on your computer. SL works better for me after a reboot because my spyware updates everyday, and other things randomly update as well. Rebooting is helpful to avoid crashing tho, I think rather than lag. Lag could very well be caused by congestion. I've often thought it's possible.
  23. I know it's not exactly "spam". I just call a lot of things "spam" when they are unwanted. I guess a better word for what I get with one group is "chat flooding" and I'm like Dudes, go to Twitter already 'cuz it's like 500 chats going at once. That's too much. I need my privacy too and I'd like to enjoy the graphics. I'd prefer a notecard with a weekly schedule too, but then again since RL comes first, events may not be scheduled that far in advance because who knows from day-to-day what RL needs from them that week? However, they could still schedule, and then if it's cancelled due to RL circumstances, it's cancelled.
  24. Oh, that's a good idea too, to write down the shape numbers. Brilliant! I wish I had thought of a notebook before. Some people could use a clip board, but my computer doesn't like me having multiple windows open when I'm on SL. I'm afraid my specs are under par for what is needed to run SL. So a clipboard wouldn't work for me, but may for others.
