  2. A bit aggressive... even uppity, the tone of that blog article, especially considering that for many users it's not so much a question of ignoring (or not believing in) the upcoming SSB change and its consequences, but of limited options regarding a viewer change -be it due to limited hardware, too unfamiliar UI, or both. Still, whatever it takes to make people realize they *do* need to update... and I have to agree that sooner or later you gotta give up a bit on retrocompatibility to be able to advance significantly (and God knows SL has often been accused of lagging *way* behind in technological terms). There's another interesting blog article about this, with possible additional info: http://modemworld.wordpress.com/2013/06/21/sl-projects-update-25-3-nyx-linden-announces-ssba-imminent/
  3. If you own the parcel where your private spaces are located at, you can set it so that avatars outside the parcel can't see those inside it, regardless of the distance: they'll still be able to see rezzed objects, but not the avatars (nor their worn objects), which still lends you some measure of privacy. And they could see you again if they enter into your parcel, but then again, you can make it private access (ban lines) if your landlord permits so.
  4. Adding to the previous answer, I'd recommend your partner to use her best possible Spanish (no contractions, no SMS speak, and certainly NO bad grammar) when using the translator, and to try avoiding too many native idioms. While I agree that no currently available online translator makes a great job, it's been my observation that by far most of the 'failures' in translation stem from the person simply not writing anywhere near properly, often failing to translate even isolated words because the translator can't even recognize them in the first place.

'game'. Not one a whole lot of people will share, unfortunately... and ironically enough, many of those who won't are usually the most adamant about considering SL esclsuively as a game (especially in the sense that they can do whatever they want with whoever they want and not particularly regret it... though quite a few of them seem to selectively forget their own definition of SL as 'just a game' when they are the ones being played out by others). But yes, it's quite a noble objetive; not necessarily the only one, even setting aside strictly selfish and otherwise negative ones; there are some for whom SL's objetive may be to explore, learn, create or earn money, to put a few examples.
  6. Try teleporting to a very empty region (like Coelho), then log off and back in; ideally, clean Lumiya's cache before logging back in. If that doesn't work, change to a different outfit and then back to the one you wanted to use. And yes, have patience. Lumiya can't possibly be fast even on the most powerful tablets and with the best setup wi-fi... and avatar baking particularly is not quite as easy as it may seem, especially with all the latest updates. Lumiya is trying to keep up with quite a bit of LL's latest implementations... and for example they only recently added multi-layer support; it's rather possible that it's still somewhat buggy (it certainly is, for me, and those 'liquid mesh' are also giving me some trouble).

  8. Malanya wrote: @ Ren, why should someone be followed in world aand whine about a forum post? If someone did that to me I would mute that person right after I saw their IM was a complaint. PM if you have an issue and heck yes there is a difference between the forums and in world I am sure most people don't want to be harassed by a sore butt forum poster they don't know. Malanya, it seems to me that what would really bother you (as would many others, including me, of course) is the 'whining' thing... not that it's done through a forum PM or an in-world IM. Ask yourself this: if someone IM'd you in-world complimenting one of your forum posts, saying that it's well thought, reasoned, informative, nice or whatever... would you take umbrage at it just because the person chose to tell you so in-world? To be honest, I really don't understand why such a big deal is being made over the choice of medium; I would think that the really sad part is that the issue between Gadget and Fennal has escalated beyond a mere civil disagreement and into a multi-user exchange of heavy accusations, thinly (if at all) veiled insults and whatnot.
  9. Gadget Portal wrote: [...] What happens on the forums stays on the forums [...] Says you. Actually, I see no particular reason why in-world's Gadget Portal should be considered a different person than forum's Gadget Portal; unless it's one of those 'forum is forum and in-world is in-world and SL is SL and RL is RL and my alt X is not the same person as my alt Y and I can have different wives on each and... and...' philosophy... but you gotta understand, not everyone adheres or, for that matter, understands that kind of compartmentalizing. Think, for example, of all the people in here who want to look for friends and says 'hit me up in-world' or similar things; how could anyone do that if, according to you, 'what happens on the forums stay on the forums'? :smileyvery-happy:

Thank God SL does have that option and landowners here are free to use it... and you're all for freedom, right? Or maybe you're just for freedom for yourself to do whatever you want... but not necessarily for others too? :smileyhappy:

  15. Most current viewers have either one or two different settings affecting physics: an enable/disable option (controlling whether physics are performed at all, regardless of specific settings), plus a physics LOD factor (controlling how accurate the movement is) whose default value is 1.0. Both should be found in your viewer's preferences under the 'Graphics' section, provided you have advanced settings on. Since the exact placing and naming of both options may difer from viewer to viewer, you can always resort to check both settings under the Debug Settings list (in your viewer's Advanced menu, not the preferences window). They're called AvatarPhysics and RenderAvatarPhysicsLODFactor.
  16. Gadget Portal wrote: "We have an extensive process and we don't take everyone." "So you're not looking for any volunteers at all?" Your answer there seems to me a bit of a jump into (negative) conclussions, Gadget, and while I agree that theirs didn't sound any friendlier, if you're truly interested in something it's always good practice to develop a bit of a thick skin when trying to achieve it; a more logical follow-up would've been: “Ok. So how do I begin this extensive process?”. Maybe even add the good old courtesy “please” word, since in that context you were essentially asking for information (and maybe to someone who wasn't, in fact, the person responsible for providing it). I'll agree that you shouldn't have to jump through too many hoops, especially for something like volunteering... but the opposite is also true: you shouldn't be discouraged too easily :smileywink:

  19. I'd still contact the creator, attaching that very pic. The strip of skin showing, and what I can make of the corset itself, makes me think there's absolutely NO reason why the alpha shouldn't cover that area. In fact that's something that usually puzzles me... I can understand creators being very careful not to overextend their meshes' alphas in areas where the mesh actually ends... but so far inside the area supposed to be covered by the piece? Can't tell you how many times I've had to use additional alphas from other, better thought pieces of clothing from different creators.
  20. Actually, the moment she sends you a picture, it doesn't matter if she sends it with no perms at all.. you can view the image, capture it from your screen and then re-upload it full perm; it's an extremely easy procedure and it doesn't even involve any kind of 'hacking'. I'm not sure if she's computer literate enough to know that, but she definitely should be. Another consideration is that if she's already sharing somewhat intimate pics (not that the one from her profile's RL tab is particularly prudish, either) with 1-week-old SL avatars after meeting them for only a few days, that doesn't make her incredibly reserved about her privacy, to then throw a hissy fit about whether one of her pics might end up in unplanned hands. So these things combined make it sound like she's a bit of a drama queen, whether she realizes/admits it or not, and perhaps you should stay clear from her. Anyway, mainly two things, Karin: weird as your story sounds, it still falls under the wide 'resident to resident' kind of dispute in which Linden Labs staffers don't involve themselves, so it's very unlikely the moderators at this forum will be either willing or, for that matter, capable of intervening. What they may (and, in fact, probably will) intervene at, is in removing your post, because it violates the forum rule against disclosing the name of the resident you have a problem with. I suggest that you edit your original post to remove her name.
  21. Good thinking. Mine's only there as a subtle joke almost meant for myself rather than anyone else; but with increased awareness about it, I understand your including it in your profile as an efficient way to get people to understand you better without needing too much in the way of explanations.
  23. I've often been complimented for my profile (don't bother checking it, it's another account), yet I'm sure it 'turns off' just as many people as it attracts, if not more, and for a whole lot of reasons. It's very, very detailed (some parts of it are literally at their fields' max. allowed length), and for that reason alone I reckon some people wouldn't bother reading it all; I also exercise a measure of blunt self-effacing honesty that will probably deter more than a few; and then I proceed to express my dim views on a number of other topics, further decreasing my chances of being universally liked. Some would deem that a bad thing, but I rather think it's a good one, because I'm no more interested in meeting people who'd dislike me, than they'd be in meeting me. Another thing conspicuously absent from my profile is quotes. Not a single one. It's not that I dislike them... on the contrary, I'm fond of many quotes, even a few I don't agree with; it's just that I don't like using other people's words to express my views... I want to think I don't need that, and if sometimes I can't find the right words to do it all by myself, I just think more, or leave it for another time, since no one's hurrying me. In fact, my profile has been evolving for over four years and will continue doing so, just as my avatar and many other aspects of my SL. Sometimes a small change / improvement strikes me as a good idea, so I apply it; what I don't do is massive overhauls, because with those would come the temptation to resort to other's ideas... and with that, in turn, would come depersonalization. Whatever my profile is at any given moment, it expresses how I am and what I believe at that point in my (S)life, and if there are mistakes, holes, lack of development or sophistication or whatever... then so be it: those represent me, too. My point is, Raimi: don't try making your profile a 'one-size-fits-all' or a 'bestseller'. No matter what you put in it... smart or dumb, a lot or very little, funny or serious... let it be a full expression of what you are: the good and the bad. In the end, I think that's the best kind of profile you can have :smileywink:
  24. Yup, this was done to me twice. The first time was an alt of my ex and, I regret to say, I fell for it; the 'new girl' disappeared without warning about the time I began strongly suspecting -she probably sensed my increasing wariness. I say that I regret it because, in hindsight, I realize that I had rather ample evidence, yet never confronted her on it... I guess I felt a certain guilt over the initial breakup that may have been unconsciously hindering my common sense with thoughts of 'giving it, and her, a second chance'. The second time was far shorter and didn't actually develop into a relationship with either account, so I had little chance to suspect foul play again; it was a slip of hers that made it patently clear, and by then I was so strongly against that kind of thing, I inmediately broke any contact whatsoever with her -defriended and muted all her alts that I knew of, and even stopped visiting the place where we'd met. To this day I still barely tolerate even the most innocent of practical jokes involving alts, and all my friends know how strongly I would react against any serious fooling around. I have no problems whatsoever with alts, I have a couple myself, but the moment they're used disingenously against me, it's very nearly a deal breaker.
  25. FezVrasta wrote: [...] Have I understood correctly? [...] Pretty much, yes. Nevertheless, a possibly viable option for you would be to establish some kind of business partnership with one or more residents who will tackle for you all those aspects of SL which you don't want to engage into, but are still quite necessary for your planned business to succeed. In fact that's what many, if not all successful creators end up doing, once they're firmly established: they concentrate on creating, and leave all the other, more social aspects of SL for their trusted staff, partners, etc.
