Im just wandering around...Ive been here for years and still its an enigma to me And that is one of the few things which, no matter how old you are, will remain an enigma for many, if not most. Places come and go, people come and go... trends change, people in general change, as does this world... not to mention, you change too, and what once seemed so cool to you, doesn't anymore. I agree with Azanor. While there's lots of places to hangout, even the most crowded and cheerful of them won't necessarily appeal to you, and that 'fish out of water' sensation isn't likely going to help you feel comfortable with the people around you enough to, for example, randomly enter an ongoing public chat conversation to 'enter their circle'. So, as good a place as any to find yourself likely nice hangouts for you, would be the Editor's Picks, where you can find, categorized by thematics, many places -some of them new- you might like.
  2. I think I understand what Jewel means... it's something I, too, have sometimes wished was available in SL, though not necessarily as a notecard item... considering it would require changes in SL code, it might as well be a new type of item, kind of a sub-type of shape item, let's say, a 'shape modifier'... which would only store a few shape parameters and, on being applied/worn, would alter only those particular parameters while leaving intact the rest. Yes, the objections made in this thread are at least partially valid... some shape adjustments do have an effect on others, even if you don't want them to. But not all. Say, for example, I sometimes change my skin and find that the new one requires some shape modifications to again make the face look right. So I create a new shape from the old one. But then, all the shape modifications I stored for many mesh clothing items that require it (usually with pants, which only make me change the sliders affecting the hip... and those most certainly don't affect the face one way or the other), are rendered obsolete, and I have to redo each one of them. The suggestion Jewel made, regardless of the particular format... would greatly minimize that need.
  3. Congratulations, Greek, you just made my day... biggest laugh I've had in quite some time over these forums. Just so you know... yes, I do have a vested interest in SL, and also a jacketed one. They come with buttons 'n all, but they're not mesh... mesh vested interests make me itchy, I prefer silky-smooth, sculpted ones.
  4. greek Wingtips wrote: well I end it now, only to say I do pay for this game so one is entitled to complain if I spend more time fixing bugs then playing the game, and with that I leave it there No, you don't. Most patently not. Anyway, if you're a Premium member, that basically entitles you to open support tickets to LL... not that non-premium members can't, but... well, you know. That you can do. What it most definitely doesn't entitle you (not that you don't do it anyway, but judging from most of your previous posts & threads, that's hardly a surprise anymore), is to open a thread explicitly 'wanting to hear from us', and then resenting the hell out of every answer that doesn't say exactly what you'd like to hear -which, to be honest, I'm not really sure what in Philip Linden's name that would be, because fact is, for better or worse SL is what it is, and none of us is optimally equipped to change it; at most we might be able to offer technical suggestions... that is, if you weren't a qualified IT employee ready to upload his credentials :smileywink:
  5. As I understand, Linden Labs doesn't get involved with resident-to-resident disputes, and this, for better or worse, falls under that category. You could still report him for fraud.. it's highly unlikely that your report alone would fix your problem, but if he does the same thing to others and they report him, too, then *that* may 'stick to him'. Other than that... there's the possibility of contacting all the other tenants, at least those you can find out about (yep, already having been ejected from the group won't help)... and warn them privately, one by one. Don't ask them to believe you, because you just cannot prove anything, no matter how many logs and transaction details you have... only LL can verify those, and as I said... Consider, though, that this may amount to 'declaring war' on your ex-landlord... whether he was right to eject you like that (as usual, we only have your version of the story, so... *shrugs*) or not. He could, reasonably or not, retaliate on the grounds of diffamation. In the long run, I guess the only way to be protected from these things is to research a bit before renting to see if your potential landlords are a trusted company.
  6. I have an 8-years old small laptop which wasn't nearly top of the line even back then, and it still runs SL. Of course I have to massively dial it back on all the graphical quality settings, compared to my newer desktop. But it runs.
  7. Folders, unless it's fatpacks of which I'm really not all that interested in having unpacked and ready to wear some of the variations of the product.
  8. Preferencias, Privacidad, Puntos de mira, activar "Mostrar puntos de mira de foco".

  11. Short-term easiest option is the alt thing, indeed. But you will soon notice, if you haven’t yet, that sometimes your contacts won’t answer your messages inmediately, if at all; it may be that they’re away from keyboard, or too busy... or maybe, just as yourself, in a state of mind where they’d rather not be disturbed; this is in fact normal enough that’s become part of Second Life etiquette: if you IM someone and don’t get an inmediate answer, you don’t keep hammering him or resent his delay, instead respecting whatever his reasons for it and just trying again later or the next day. Some people don’t follow this commonsense etiquette, though... and rather tellingly, many of them take their jolly good time to answer IMs themselves, if and when it suits them... while still becoming impatient and upset if you do the same to them. My point is: the more pushy people like that you allow in your contacts list, the less you’re going to enjoy your Second Life as you wanted. So try explaining your friends that you need your space, just as they do... and be wary of those who won’t accept that :smileywink:
  12. Little to add to Amethyst's excellent answer, except maybe this... Carl Thibodeaux wrote: “Time to put people into padded rooms till they slow their hormones down?” Unfortunately SL, just as the rest of the Internet, is where a lot of people choose to let out all of their lowest selves, not just their hormones. And the more they believe it's OK to do in here what they wouldn't dare doing outside, the less their actions are gonna make any sense.
  13. Trolls are trolls are trolls... you do your thing, focus on a single newbie dealing with him on IM and instructing him to ignore the troll or griefer (nowadays most people are versed enough in the Internet that they're aware there's always one form of idiot or another) while you help him; thus he'll know that SL isn't made exclusively of those.
  14. Suspiria Finucane wrote: Do you think we will ever have this type of avatar in SL or is the SL avatar unique and what we have is what we have? Of course we will. Only problem is, by the time we do, cutting-edge videogames will have advanced far beyond that. And yes, there's probably a few technological things LL could do to close the gap... but I suspect SL is always going to lag (pun intended) due to its networked multi-player, on-demand world load nature.
  15. Charli Infinity wrote: because I'm human not an avatar Good! They say admitting it is the first step. Have you ever considered taking the next one? I think it's called 'fixing it'.
  16. So, Charli! Why was it again that you were so concerned about what others think of your participating in Second Life? (btw, feel free to ignore the question again, or even avoid it with the usual ''offended and/or attacking' labelling trick... it's actually kinda funny to see you doing it again and again. But I'm honestly interested in the answer, certainly far more than in the endless back-and-forth with the various definitions of 'tacky', Jersey references and whatnot).
  17. It really, really depends a lot on the person. If it was me, I'd appreciate it a lot and would thank you profusely, and for sure I'd store the items for whatever use... but there's a relatively small chance I'd actually wear them, much less all of them and in the intended way (meaning all three items, to actually look like you intended me to). Why? Because I'm very particular, and even if I did like one of the items enough, especially the skin, chances are I'd already have it. Then again, some people lack either the time, the inclination, the taste and/or the L$ to go shopping in order to make an arguable improvement to their avs; it's not that they don't want to look better, or that they don't like your concept of 'better'... it's just that they can't, or don't know how to look better. These kind of people are far more likely to, not only appreciate your gift, but actually use it as intended. In any case, I don't think many people would go as far as taking umbrage at your gifting them all that... the few who would are likely rude enough themselves, and you would've noticed it. It's just that it's more practical if you, kinda, 'probe' them first to see if the gift will be not just appreciated, but also used :smileywink:

  19. Del blog de Strawberry Singh: “The following are my three favorite mesh settings, I was having a lot of problems with mesh and I just set these and it fixed a lot of issues for me: Meshbytespertriangle: 128 Meshmaxconcurrentrequests: 128 MeshminimumByteSize: 1”
  20. CAPAL wrote: [...] Could we please go back to the original topic [...] ? 'We' implying that you are also willing to discuss about it... yet, though it's clear that you're actively following the thread as it develops, and choosing to answer when and how it suits you, I have still to see you even remotely acknowledging the relevant, and in fact central question that has already been directed at you several times, which is: why in fact did you knowingly break a rule, and then complain about the consequences? And no, 'I didn't take it seriously' won't sail because (and I will now say it plainly and without irony, so you can't pretend not to have read that part too) you've clearly taken the consequence seriously... so why not the cause? :smileyhappy: Are 'we' indeed discussing the issue, Capal, or were you just waiting for someone to somehow validate your action and ignore the rest? Because if you just wanted back-patting, perhaps you could just say so :smileywink:
  21. You can't. Of course there's countless visual & behavioral traits that, at least, *suggest* a child avatar being so... rather short stature, relative plumpiness, higher head/body proportion ratio, smoother skin, lack of make-up, cheerful and not altogether provocative clothing, bigger eyes, cuter hair, cheerful and twitchy AOs... to name a few. Plus, as I said, countless behavioral aspects, even if they're just roleplayed. But for all that, you still can't, mostly because the moment you try to establish a certain, somewhat measurable set of rules... a 'line' beyond which you'll decide that it's a child avatar... then someone *will* most surely come and purposely set him/herself to an avatar deftly tiptoeing that exact line you drafted, yet wearing or featuring some other trait that he or she will strongly argue it clearly makes it an adult avatar.
  22. CAPAL wrote: [...] Well, I didn't take this rule too serious [...] It never, EVER fails to amaze me how some people allegedly don't feel the need to take sim rules seriously... but oh, when they're banned for that, they certainly DO take the consequences rather seriously :smileyindifferent:
