  1. Yes i did, the email should be fine also. I am receiving multiple sales notifications for a freebie from the marketplace per day. I supose i will wait a while longer and then file the AR again if nothing seems to be happening.
  2. Yesterday i had to file an Abuse Report (using LL viewer) about an in-world matter that was rather serious to me. Despite having been in SL for many years, this is kind of rare thing for me. Upon sending it, i got a small window saying it was 'uploading' but i never received a confirmation email that it was received. I checked Answers and support FAQ and if i remember correctly there has been confirmation emails in the past. I contacted live-chat about the issue but apparently they cannot see abuse reports, their status or if they have been received and the CS told me to file the AR again, but again no email. I checked my email spam folder and the email is fine. Does anyone know how long it usually takes for the automated emails to be sent out? It's been about 30 hours now. Any other tips on what to do? I would like to avoid filing it a third time and unknowingly bombing the system with the same thing a third time, but this is not a case i am willing to 'let slide' and would at least like to have confirmation that my complaint has reached the Labs.
  3. I am not sure which part of SL would be put into the cloud that isn't already in the cloud. The textures are hosted on amazon as far as i know, and since you mentioned that you did not mean renderlag i assume it is not the renderder or client part that is suposed to be in the cloud. It appears you are asking for more flexible landsizes, something i believe they could implement quite easily. Making a big blank canvas in any engine i tried isnt a big deal. The issues start when you begin putting stuff and people on it. :matte-motes-agape: More scalable power on sims would be nice, but i dont know much of that is possible with the SL architecture. Heroengine has a solution that suposedly is very scaleable. It also shuts down inactive worlds down and starts them up on-demand. I'm not sure i would call it cloud computing myself tho, as my understanding of it means that rendering and client load would also have to be in the cloud so there is no need for a strong client. I believe it's not there yet. (see Peggys post)
  4. The CPU, Rams and motherboard are pretty much outdated. Unless you are getting all 3 parts for ~100 dollars and it is meant as a temporary solution i would advise against buying it. The parts (with exception of graphics and disk) are about 4 years old, and while they can still perform decently, they are also 3 generations behind of what is current bits.
  5. The extra information was certainly helpful in understanding your request better. I hope you will find someone to build it for you
  6. Hello Kallaniden! While I'm not interested in your project in particular, I have been reading the whole thread and am still entirely puzzled at what you are actually wanting to have created. Hopefully these pointers will help find you the right person for your job. Before jumping into details of which part should be created in which particular manner, perhaps it would be helpful to sticking with the basics first. What are you looking to have created? An avi can be anything. Are you looking for a human avatar, an animal, robot, or a walking teapot with arms and legs? A mesh 'AV' would be a full replacement for the SL avatar, but by the sound of your post you are looking for mesh clothing or parts to outfit an SL avatar? Being more specific, or perhaps even posting a simple sketch or links to reference images will help people understand your request better. Consider that some artists and creators have preferences in what they like to create at a given time. This could be especially important if your budget is small. Which skill level are you asking the creator to have, and what kind of quality are you expecting to receive? Beginner, Intermediate or Professional? What kind of licensing do you require? Is it meant for your own personal use only, an item for resale, or do you require source files and permission to create derivative works under your own name? What is your expected timeframe and deadline for completion of the project? What is your budget for the project? Is it 30USD total, or 30USD per hour for professional work?
  7. If you want to promote your new place of business and not loose people to getting lost, loosing interest etc, then yes, you should likely at least up the landmarks in your top selling items. If possible, leaving a landmark giver at the landingspot of the old location would also be a neat idea.
  8. I have been using an Intuos 4 medium as a mouse replacement for 10 months now and absolutely loving it. It is much lighter on the hands than using a mouse all day and the radial menu is brilliant. It does take a little while to get used to it, but after a week or so, you will probably not want to part with your tablet ever again Cheap tablets, are not worth it in my opinion. I bought a cheap one (non-wacom) a couple of years back, used it for about 20 minutes and put it away. It was a plasticy scratchy thing. The Intuos has an excellent feel to it. As for size, it will depend on what you plan on doing. For a single monitor a small would probably be enough, but if you use 2 screens yóu will almost certainly want a medium or perhaps even a large. If you are primarily going to use it for painting it depends if you like to paint from wrist or used to making big strokes with your arm. I cant speak for the cheaper Wacoms, but money spent on the Intuos was money well spent for me. It is worth every penny. If you do get one, you may also want to try out the softer white felt nibs, they do wear a little faster but feel really nice. Smudgeguard can be a good accessory if you use your tablet a lot. (www.smudgeguard.com) Everyone seems to be drooling over the Cintiq 24HD but I have seen one live, and it is huge. Sadly didn't get to try it out. Also, if your camera is spinning like crazy when trying to alt+left click cam in SL you will need to set DisableMouseWarp to TRUE in SL viewer debug settings.
  9. I am in the same boat. No ANS, no go for marketplace products if magic boxes are switched off by LL.
  10. I saw what you wrote, and humbly disagree with the blanket statement of 'Yes it is okay, but...', which in the case of the items listed (textures, building components, hair, skins) should most likely be a 'No, you cannot sell them, unless..'. Which is why i tried to give a bit more detailed, even if perhaps incomplete explaination.
  11. I'm afraid it is not as simple as that if you plan to stay out of trouble. Just because an item is transferable, does not necessarily imply that you have the right to sell it or even pass it along for free. If it is items you purchased with no copy/transfer permissions, like a couch set that you no longer need, then you are mostly likely good to sell them. Textures, even if full perm will almost always be a no-go. If you purchased them, will likely have permission to use them in your builds but not ok for reselling. If you got them passed by a friend or stranger, they likely did not have have the right to give them to you in the first place. The last option for textures would be that they are genuine freebies, in which case it's rather likely that the original creator would want them to stay free. Building components, like sculpties etc will in most cases fall under the same rules as textures. Hair, skins and misc full perm items, IF they are legit will either fall under similar regulations as textures. There is also a high probability that the items were illegally copied originally. I have been in SL for 6 years now and have yet to come across something like legal high-quality skin or hair with full permissions. The Eloh skin series are free, and OK to resell if you modified them, however you cannot sell the base skins if i remember correctly. For any of the full perm items you would have to identify the original creator and get their permission for resale and in the case of hair and skins, the person that uploaded/created them, may or may not be the copyright holder. It is up to you to determine that on a case by case basis. Getting permission from ShadyDealer Resident to sell BigBrandName X item likely won't do much good. All in-all, unless it's a no-copy/transfer item that you purchased, you can absolutely not dump your whole inventory into a yardsale with good consciousness and without risk of repercussions against your account.
  14. Keep in mind that the specifications on that page are underspecced and outdated, even for the recommended section. To have any kind of decent SL experierence you will want at least 4GB of ram and a mid-range (or better) gaming card. Intel graphics is a big nono. The computer you listed is 6 years old and probably not worth spending money on unless you got it for free.
  15. Thank you so much for your explaination Drongle. It seems to make more sense now. In essence, i should analyze my custom physics shape, even if it only has 18 verts?
  16. In the building floater where it says... 1 object selected, land impact x Remaining capacity xxxx,. More info <- click on more info, it will open another window that lets you see all the goodies. edit: you may need to be on Firestorm, LL or another V3 viewer to be able to see it. As far as i know it is not available in Phoenix.
  17. I am pretty sure that 'convex' is the default setting an item will have when you rez it. No matter if how physics are uploaded. As for the physics sizing problem, i did a quick test with one of my objects and the results were rather wierd. The same object at different sizes with custom physics shape and set to prim type. 0.4x0.4x0.4 0.3 download 0.4 physics 0.5x0.5x0.5 0.5 download 9.5 physics 1x1x1 1.7 download 4.8 physics 5x5x5 41.7 download 1.0 physics What gives?
  18. I'm not overly mesh-smart as you call it, but #1 is what it says. The root prim cannot be set to type 'none'. You can do it for all childprims however. I like to think of it as setting the child prims 'phantom' (even if that may not be an entirely accurate comparison). This works marvelously with prim builds and sculpties as well and helps to save on LI in many cases. #2 Are you confident the cube was root? It *should* be working that way, perhaps there is a bug? #3 Not sure on this, i always supply custom physics shapes. They are quick to build and i suspect if you do not need accurate collision, then putting a simple box shape might be lighter than convex hull but that is me just guessing. If i am reading your post correctly and physics are driving up your LI on the big notes, then creating a simple U-shape from a poly box could possibly greatly improve your LI.
  19. Lance has a very good point. The only way the information recorded would be meaningful were if someone set up a testing booth on a sim, with markers for tester position, and scene framing. Also screen resolution, Antialiasing and AF have a major impact on performance. Tests would have to be done in mouselook, to remove disparities for rendering the testers avatar. edit: of course statistics bar does not show in mouselook >.<
  20. SL has had lighting and shadows for a while now and can look rather pretty. Some of the graphical features you are refering to when asking for a new graphics engine are probably somewhere on a Linden plan or 'to do' list. It's just that humans will be walking on Mars before it's implemented. :matte-motes-silly: Somehow i doubt that changing the engine would do much good, SLs content would grind it to a halt just the same. SL is a creative outlet, social gettogether showcase thingamajingy with probably 50% users that do not have the hardware to run any modern game title at medium settings. The user base is small'ish and hasn't grown in ages, so chances are that you would have finished your own broomsticksoccer game in any real game engine before you'll see one that looks 'Crytek' and performs well inside SL.
  21. This chart should give a good general overview how cards relate to each other. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/fastest-graphics-card-radeon-geforce,3085-7.html Unless you opt for a 570 or 580 which are both out of the budget you mentioned, there isnt really any worthwhile upgrades. The 580 is pretty much twiddling it's thumbs in SL unless you enable shadows.
  22. I do not know anything about cars, but Restitution should be the bouncyness of your object.
  23. As pointed already, with nvidia cards, the first digit classifies the series, and the 2nd digit it's 'power' within that range. For SL you likely want a card with at least a 5 for the second number, altho 6 would probably better. IE. 8600, 9600, 260, 460, 560. Anything lower than those are mainly made for desktop work and multimedia like playing dvds and videos but not much for gaming. They may still *run* games but what's the expectation here? Gaming cards typically range from 6-8, ie 8600-8800, 9600-9800, 260-295, 460-480, 560-590.
  24. Chosen Few wrote: One should never model for any platform without knowing all the technicalities involved. Try modeling for a PS3 game some time. Sony sends you documentation a mile thick, and you have to know it all before you can even begin. SL is quite tame by comparison. Wow i would very much love to have better documentation on SL Mesh as oposed to the 'there you go, and let the community figure it out' approach. I am far from being a professional myself, but have doodled with other engines and every single one of them has better documentation than SL has when it comes to mesh and importing things. Considering that SL is aimed mainly at hobbyists, one would think that they would at least put out some guidelines and video tutorials for good practices. Posting code snipples and formulas on the wiki may be great to some people, but i doubt it's helpful to the majority. Looking at the forums there seem but a few people who really fully understand what is going on, and the amount of bugs and oddities are not helping to understand it better in the least. Alot of the whole mesh process is outright confusing, uploading the exactly same file yields different upload costs at a different hour. PE of an object can change from 200 to 0.5 just by using different LOD settings (and more). No documentation on errors the viewer gives (MAV_BLOCK_MISSING), greyed out upload button with no meaningful error message to work with, and in some cases red colored vertices or grey edges in the uploader preview i could find no info on. All this happening on models that pass through Mayas mesh 'cleanup' function with zero errors. For me personally, documentation is just plain lacking, when in fact it should be *better* than what is available for indie and professional engines due to the less expierenced target audience. If LL are truely hoping to get mesh fully accepted on a wider scale and to replace the awefully inefficient sculpties they should work on this. And before someone jumps me, i do not think people want to be told how to use their tools, but would rather know about SLs unique requirements and kinks. The problem isnt unique to mesh however. I wonder how many prim and sculptie builders are aware that they are now able to lower the landimpact (and thus decrease the load on sims) on their builds by utilizing the mesh impact calculations for their prims and sculpts. My guess is 'not many' because unless they read the wiki article very carefully and experiment, or run into oddities when building they will never know. The idea of a world where everyone can create is a great one, but without guidance and best practices that are easy to find and understandable, it will take a long time for SL users as a collective to produce non-laggy, conforming items.
  25. I looked it up at http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-graphics-card-gaming-performance,3042-7.html Seems to be an integrated chip that is equal to the Intel integrated graphics. Will the viewer start? Most likely. Will be be an ejnjoyable SL expierence, i doubt it. Personally i would stay away from it.
