As you walk over your brain starts talking to you... ~Are you sure you wanna do that... they are probably busy, I betcha he has a girlfriend who’ll kill him if he talks to you, or it’s a girl who has a group of really close female friends and is not about to let you into the group, or it’s a guy who’ll want you to put a collar on so he can ‘own’ you for a bit -Yea your right, maybe it’s not a good idea….....But maybe they are just busy and they might be a pretty nice person, so I’ll wait to see if they walk around a bit…. So you find a place to sit while trying really hard not to look like a stalker! ~Haha you look really stupid now, just sitting here~ - Fine you know what I'm just going to do it! I can walk up to a stranger and say Hi! You walk up, pushing your nerves aside. Click on the chat bar and type.... Hello :-) ............. .................. ..................... Five minutes later no reply... then they vanish! Welcome to the story of my SL life! :-) They say in real life that to overcome shyness, or to get over nerves at a job interview, you should try picturing the person you're speaking to in the nude. It doesn't work quite so well in Second Life though. :matte-motes-agape::matte-motes-bashful-cute-2: One of the best conversations I had inworld was with one of the AI bots that used to randomly teleport around the grid. He'd stand there with a sign in his hand declaring that he was an AI bot, and just to say "Hello Hal" when you wanted to start a conversation. Never get a second date with AI bots though for some reason. :matte-motes-wink:
  3. Hello, Christi, I was logged in on my main account, and took the liberty of having a look around your property. You'll be relieved to know it's not a griefer harrassing you. You've decorated your hallway with a witch's hat on a coat hook, and it is scripted to rezz broomsticks and spiders.

Oftentimes when I am reading something, I read with a tone or an inflection or an accent in my mind.....the voice of the writer. Mostly it seems to be something I do unconsciously. If I have perceived someone as a whiner, I will hear a whiney voice. There was a post recently that I read as a whine but then I stopped myself. Re read as if it was simply an adult laying out a problem they were trying to solve. And it practically changed the whole meaning of what they had said and how I responded. Do you do this too? Assign a voice or a tone or an inflection as you read what others have wrote? Crikey, yes, I do tend to do this too. Sometimes there are images as well, not only of what I imagine the person looks like, height, skintone etc., but what type of room they might be in. (I heard someone snicker "mostly basements" - bloody hell what is it they say, oh yes, you're never alone with schizophrenia!).
  5. I don't think there is a safe place anywhere. Not really. When your number's up your number's up, but I certainly wouldn't risk sticking my head in a lion's mouth, or moving to an area that was known to have an active volcano, or anything like that.
  6. Perrie Juran wrote: Whether it's the Mayans or the Saturnians, it matters not much to me. Either way I want to go out **bleep**ing my little brain out and I know the last word I want to hear is c*************ing. I do think that if I was in the path of this storm, after I got to shelter, there could be no better way to spend my time. I lived through a hurricane in 1987, and sadly **bleep**ing anyone's brains out, or having mine **bleep**ed out was actually the last thing on my mind! But for sure we all did huddle together under blankets in a room without windows, and that was massively comforting. I believe, though, some people took their chances and had a bit of a drugs party in one of the lower level apartments nearby. Lucky for them it was only the top deck that got wrecked. " God" (or whatever Power Bigger Than Us) must have been smiling on us all for just looking after each other in whatever way we could. Wishing the East Coast tons of luck, and hope the emergency services make it through too. Heroes the lot of them, and greatly undervalued.

Stalking, investigating, exploring, problem solving, beta testing, making videos, taking photos, driving/riding/flying around the mainland, sailing, currently Burn2 is taking place over on the Burning Man sims - portaloos rule! - and there's a 3D maze to get lost in. Land buying and selling, building, rezzing, de-rezzing, dressing my doll (avatar), undressing my doll (avatar), my.secondlife.com - to see what's trending and where I can visit next I don't do bored.
  8. That's useful - even though I always go the 'scenic' route
  9. Greetings, littleReta The fellow who owns mainland near to your mainland cannot have more prims to use than you for smaller land holdings. This is just not possible. On mainland everyone gets 117 prims per 512m sq m they own. How do you know it is he who causes the lag? If you truly believe your neighbour is causing a problem, you can click on "help" inworld and select "report abuse", using the category "unfair use of region resources". You will receive an email notification that your abuse report is being looked into, but do not expect anything more than that. Everyone is entitled to the same rights as anyone else in Second Life, regardless of how much or how little they pay. Remember also that there is plenty of mainland available at very cheap amounts should you decide to move to a less laggy sim. Or you can wait and see if your neighbour moves first if you like living there. Best wishes to you.
  10. It is a fabulous question. If I don't write things down I forget also. I forgot what my real life husband looked like sometimes when I wasn't with him. Maybe that's why we're divorced now
  11. I'm sorry I didn't get back to your thread after your edit yesterday http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Technical/Since-yesterday-I-haven-t-been-able-to-log-in-to-any-location/qaq-p/1711121 And as this alt account I'm currently using on the forums is not a premium member either, I took a look at the "Help" "Submit support ticket" options, and I see what you mean. There isn't an option, and that, in my opinion, is just ridiculous. However... back to your problem. Did you try the other suggestion of pulling up the viewer screen, going into the first menu option at the top of the login screen, "preferences", "graphics" and sliding it to lowest setting? If that has also failed, then I feel strongly it is a texture on your avatar that is causing the failed ability to login. It would be absolutely marvellous if we could do a character test/reset without having to log in; unfortunately this isn't possible at this time. Have you tried manually clearing your cache, rather than using the menu buttons? Might be worth a try. http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_cache_clear
  12. Thanks for updating this thread, and forgive me for not getting back sooner. You're not going daft, but if you are, that's only to be expected with all the tail-chasing you're having to do currently. I'm responding on your new thread. But am scratching my head.

It's all very interesting, because living in a virtual world is relatively new, and no one can know yet what the long-term effects to a human brain is going to be. All I know for sure is that Second Life can be very therapeutic, relaxing, if I'm exploring pretty places, and it can be extremely disturbing if I happen to run into something that I personally find disturbing. SL is certainly a double edged sword, but I think that it can be managed properly for theraputic purposes. Just as with pharmaceuticals, professional supervision and assessment could ameloriate the risks. Naturally produced endorphins (a contraction of "endogenous morphine") like opiates, reduce pain and produce a feeling of well-being. Endorphins are actually more powerful than morphine. Other naturally produced hormones, like serotonin and oxytocin (the cuddle or love hormone) also create feelings of well-being. Because we are social creatures, it's not suprising that interactions with others, particularly intimate interactions can cause production of these hormones. The shift away from voice communications to texting (cell phones stopped being used predominantly for voice in mid 2010), is thought to be due to people wishing to regain control of their interactions with others. Virtual worlds allow us to carry that control into a fuller realization of ourselves than texting allows. You can't be backed into a corner by a beligerent person in SL. You just TP away. Feeling in control gives us a sense of well-being, with those same hormones at work. I think that at least partially explains the theraputic benefit, for all of us, of being afforded ways of exercising control over our interactions with the world around us. Virtual worlds like SL can do precisely that. Most definitely.
  14. Amethyst Jetaime wrote: You may find these interesting: Very interesting. I hadn't really given it all much thought until Charolotte started this thread. All I knew was I could lose myself for hours just wandering around a virtual park taking photos with virtual flowers. Much more fun in a virtual world where there is no dog pooh to encounter :matte-motes-big-grin-wink: I shall undoubtedly rewatch the above youtube videos and the others that come up to the right of the screen as suggestions for further viewing.

  16. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Capri Log in on an alt and go into the Advanced menu, check the option "console window", close the viewer and relog with your main avatar. Now you will see a console window, as well as the viewer loading, and that gives you a clue what's happening and at what stage your viewer is giving up loading. My guess is that there is something in your inventory, or something your avatar is currently wearing, that is causing the issue, and as you have already gone through the process of clearing cache, and as you don't seem able to be logged in at all you may need to contact Linden Lab via a support ticket. You can add more information to this thread by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit".
  17. Welcome to Second Life Answers, BIGSEXXY I have to award you the thread of the day :matte-motes-big-grin: (no prize, just an unofficial honour) - I've never seen this question being asked before. Unless you kept all the marriage proposals and acceptances in your own email, there is no record kept anywhere else, so unfortunately, if you have a long history of partnerships and not a great memory, this information cannot be recalled. You may also get clues from looking in your inventory if you took any photographs, or you have calling cards with the names that may jog your memory also. I hope I have read your question correctly. If you want to add more to this thread, because there is no "reply" button on Answers, you may do so by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit".
  18. Greetings, TimeofSand You can stop receiving group notices by clicking on the group title, read the info that comes up at the bottom of the front page, and uncheck the box to receive group notices. I don't believe you can disable group chat, but if you just click on the X when it starts up, it should leave you in peace for your session.
  19. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Gigzi I also agree with the others, it does sound like network issues. :matte-motes-frown:
  20. Inworld or via the web page? Your profile or someone else's? Some profiles will not be listed publicly, if a person has opted for privacy. Sometimes Second Life can be quirky also - if you are trying to open a profile inworld, and are getting a message on screen that you cannot access something, or if it just does not open correctly, you could try teleporting to another location, a nice quiet one like Furball or Quarrel.
  21. Tex Monday wrote: Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I'm going to anyway. The previous thread talked about multiple calling cards in inventory. My question is..why do we have them at all? What are they for? I know that you get them when you friend someone, but I have old ones in there from people I never see anymore. Do I need them...would it mess up my friends list if I just went and deleted all of them? Thanks for your help... If you don't see a use for them, Tex, then simply delete them. They are just serving as inventory clutter in your case, although a few people find them useful. (I can't say I've ever found them useful.)
  22. My only thoughts on this is that, reputable SL school or not, they're spreading unnecessary alarm if they are actually saying words to the effect that TPVs could lead to people's accounts being hacked. Fair enough, they are being responsible by suggesting group members up their security, and to remind them about commonsense things such as antivirus software, strong passwords and such like. If, however, there is an issue with TPVs being less secure, and the SL school, or any individual or organisation has reasons to be suspicious, I hope they are also taking that information directly to LL so they can look into it. I do have qualms about using any old TPV, preferring to stick with Phoenix, but some people will always insist on linking this TPV back to Emerald. At the end of the day, can we even trust everyone at LL not to hack into our account? Commonsense, and lots of it, is needed. You should have a word with whoever put out that group information, ensure they do take their findings/suspicions to LL for verification.
  23. I have tested sending L$ from an alt to my main, with my main offline, and the money has transferred without any problems. However, unless you have changed your password again since me or your friend sent across the L$ to you on the Aditi beta grid, then it looks like the server just hasn't updated your information in a timely fashion. (Every time you change your password, your L$ balance on Aditi test grid will be the same as the one you have in that moment on the Agni main grid). Relog, but relog into a different region on Aditi when you do - ie Morris or Smith or Shelef. If the balance remains low, click on the balance on your screen to see if it will refresh. If that does not work, you would do well to ask the Second Life Beta group inworld if anyone else has had such issues. And please continue to keep this thread updated as you have been doing. Edited to add: It has nothing to do with your viewer. I was not aware you could check your L$ balance for Aditi test grid via the website; I thought it only showed your true Agni balance.
  24. Astrid Kaufmat wrote: Dora Gustafson wrote: Astrid Kaufmat wrote: YeAH ,Dora aditi is for test, biut then why do we need money there to keep testing? You got it wrong: Aditi is not for us testing mesh, textures and animations It is for Linden Lab testing us testing mesh, textures and animations and that test includes testing the payment system :smileysurprised::smileyvery-happy: :smileyfrustrated: haha well it sounded like the other way. now I see what you meant. Well this makes of us tester something like in the romance The planet of the apes, when it's described the travel throught the time as a man who paints a man painting a window who is doing the same and so on basically endeless madness story. All this story is making me jump all over the room like one of those apes and not like the guano apes when they sing in concert. More than a guano apes I feel today like a ape in the guano. Hmmm well however it is we'd need money just for the frustration that we get testing for LL we're worth of getting a monthlygift least in betagrid hahaha Let's make a petition !! Hey up there in heaven of LL could you send some money US poor, frustrated, stressed, burnout testers in betagrid:P? Next time you log into beta test grid, there should be a decent amount of L$ waiting for you - I passed you some of my spare Bank of Toytown Lindens.
