Blue Goo http://userstyles.org/styles/44855/community-secondlife-com-blue-goo-theme What are other add ons or settings that you use that make Basement Forum Dwelling more pleasant for you? I take mine vanilla. (Too lazy to tweak anything). Diluted slightly by having other windows open, so if someone annoys me, I can go shoot something.
  2. Perrie Juran wrote: I am really wondering how many of these Premium Gifts are just winding up in peoples trash bins? I can't speak for other people, but my previous Premium Gifts are undoubtedly lost underneath the pile of clusterf4ckery that makes up my inventory generally. Always been the bane of my life (and I am no more organised with my RL inventory, but I have been working on that at least today :matte-motes-big-grin: )
  3. Sinjin Cooperstone wrote: I do appreciate that LL is thinking of us, but wish they would mix in a few other types of premium gifts once in awhile... I'm just not interested in vehicles. My own theory is that Linden Lab are just wanting us to test the sim crossings and/or be more sociable (ten places to sit on this plane for goodness sake!) However, I agree with you, as nice as the free gifts are - and my favourite most definitely has been the rail handcar - it's a little unimaginative to just be giving out vehicles all the time. What would you fancy as a free gift? I'd like trees that drop extra gifts at random intervals, like silly things to wear on my head, or roller skates, or roller skates and a skating rink, or an invitation to a party, or a "Come And Decorate a Linden" event where we could all go and build a brick sh1thouse around Rodvik or something.
  4. Welcome to Second Life, and to Second Life Answers. Oh dear, what a bad first experience for you. The egg shape does happen if there has been a little hiccup in a person's connection. It can be easily fixed, but if you are brand new, you could be overwhelmed with information, so let us try with something very basic. On your keyboard, please press "ctrl" "alt" and "r" all at the same time (this is the 'Rebake' procedure). Wait a few seconds. Always wait a few seconds, because sometimes an avatar takes a few (long) seconds to appear (rezz) fully. Other (long) answers will follow. Meantime, you can add more to your thread by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit".

Greetings LenaLez No, I cannot see why you would be restricted to one area. In the olden days (many years ago), if someone committed an offence against the Terms of Service, they were banished to a sim called The Cornfield, but this turned out to be more of a treat than a challenge. And so to your problem. Can you try to log into a different area? Bring up your viewer screen, and at the bottom, where you log in, change the start login location to Furball or Quarrel (these are just empty water sims).
  6. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Tyee If you are a sim owner, you can put in a request directly to Maestro Linden, and ask to have your sim put onto a different server if you do not want to be part of the beta testing. Also, keep your eye on (and add your voice to) the weekly Deploy threads. The latest one is ... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Second-Life-Server/Deploys-for-the-weeks-of-2012-11-12-2012-11-19/m-p/1732015

But ehm... not a good idea to fly after drinking a few schnaps... /me chortles! I can see there will be a lot of planes crashed all over the grid from now on. Such fun!
  8. It seats 10? Now that sounds like fun. I wonder where at least 9 of the passengers would end up after a couple of sim crossings. I haven't yet had chance to log in and pick up my plane. I love how all the free gifts so far (apart from the very first one, which was a bunch of living room furniture I think), it would appear LL want us to be testing various forms of travel. Interesting :matte-motes-big-grin-wink:
  9. Welcome to Second Life Forums, Nita Aside from making money for Linden Lab (you have to pay to upload mesh creations if you are a mesh creator), mesh clothes aren't better, except they look less like they have been painted onto the skin, and you can get some interesting shaped tops/dresses/ruffles, etc., and hair is less likely to look like it's embedded in the body. However, mesh hair does not seem to be flexi, and flexi hair is important to people like me who like to tear-arse around the grid on a motorbike, or watch it swish and sway when dancing. Mesh is great for photos, not so impressive for day to day moving around. And it is a faff having to adjust the avatar to fit the outfit, as others have said, different creators use a different 'standard' size.
  10. Smiling just thinking about Wasted. How many alts did he make altogether? I lost track. I'd never want to put one over on the mods; but I hope they see this thread as the bit of fun it is. I'm trying to think who you're talking about, who was extremely entertaining, but can only picture some dude on horseback who wore a target on his back.

What would make me happy enough to give up my last name(s) would be if they reinstated Oskar. Mods don't need a name anyway. They could just be called Mod1, Mod2, etc. to infinity and beyond.
  12. Maryanne Solo wrote: The mods do, and always have done, an excellent job Well done and three cheers for the mods I say.. hip hip.. HOORAY! Now I can see this entire thread being removed... ... except for Maryannes wee post. :matte-motes-big-grin-wink:
  13. As well as all the wonderfully useful information Lindal has provided, is moving not an option? I see you are living on the mainland. You could do with hunting around for a parcel of land that isn't surrounded by land with build-enabled. The griefers in your current home location are having a field day because someone on an adjacent sim does not have an auto return set. If grief is directed at you, do not be drawn into any form of retaliation They look like they are spawning cubes; turn off particles. When you submit an AR, bring the point to LL's attention that the objects are quite likely bringing the sim performance down as well. That should make them more likely to come along and remove the objects. But again I stress the point, might be wiser for you to just upsticks and leave the area, look for a place that is better maintained.
  14. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Persephoni626 To get the latest official Second Life Viewer (which is Viewer 3), please click on the link at the bottom of this screen/page where it says "Download Second Life".
  15. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Orchid. What happens if you click the X to close the SL crash logger window and wait a few seconds? Does a Second Life viewer window not come up then?
  16. Welcome to Second Life Forums. Looks a bit 'jiggedy jaggedy' there. Maybe you need to adjust your screen resolution (and check your graphics drivers are up-to-date also).
  17. Thanks for the update, Dave. Don't run before you can walk :matte-motes-big-grin: The absolute basics, just in case when you first log in you don't get them, can be found at Welcome Island Public4 Click the link to take you there. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Welcome%20Island%20Public5/77/150/74 Probably the best advice I can give you about writing an article about Second Life, is to stop thinking about writing an article about Second Life while you're in Second Life, and just get on with living it in a "normal" way - go with the flow and all that. You will get a bit of mentoring from those in this thread willing to do so, but as time goes on you'll notice more and more, and perceive Second Life from your own viewpoint. Then is the time, once you've got your own foundations down, to be getting that article together. And I wish you luck.
  18. It sounds like you may have got a connection problem; partial disconnections can cause the server to believe you're offline, and IMs re-route themselves to your email. Is it happening all the time, or just now and again? If it's a one-off, relog. Also, could be a problem with a specific sim - again wrong information transmitting between the server and your avatar's true information. You can test this by relogging into a different sim.

It worked yesterday when I made my first account, but now all of the dialog boxes (including Destinations and Profile) are blank as well. I did try reinstalling twice. Any idea of what's going on? Sometimes it's just very slow to load. Reboot your computer and modem and try again, using Phoenix, and wait.
  20. Hugsy Penguin wrote: Knowl Paine wrote: Are you sure that the Batman boxes, belong to the Home owner? It does look like an attack. ^^This. Land owner is one person, two months old, with full permissions to build (and so on), and no auto-return set. Cube owner is another person whose account is 12 days old. Interestingly, the 12 day old person who rezzed the griefing cubes has a surname/last name, which suggests they are not as n00b as they SL age would suggest, and probably make a habit of making new accounts with which to go a-griefing on land that has no auto-return set. To the OP, as to why people do this, it's just fun for them to disrupt others. Just like some people take great joy out of kicking down sandcastles, or damaging fences and walls or stealing cars in real life, your average Second Life griefer gets the same sort of thrill by upsetting other people, destroying what is good for other people, without even leaving their house. It's pathetic, but that's just the way it is. Human nature. :matte-motes-sour:
  21. Welcome to Second Life Answers, Tenoris From the information you have given in your original post, it looks like the region/sim that you were on was taken offline. If you log in to a different region - Hissel, Furball, Quarrel are all good sims to log into - open up the world map and see if the region is showing as 'offline'. Generally, a region comes back up within half an hour, but if it has not done so after an hour, you can click on "help" above and submit a support ticket to tell them a region is offline.
  22. With the avatar online tracker device I use, I test always by having my own avatar(s) names on the list of avatars I am tracking, and have opted to have this information relayed to my email. I know from this information that not always does the online tracker pick up 100% accurate information. It is a guide only.
  23. Happy Halloween Oskar. There's a ghost in my house :matte-motes-big-grin-wink:
