  1. Greetings, Claire To add to what Rolig already says, I don't think it's a matter of LL not caring about these welcome areas/infohubs, rather they are containing the griefers, who do seem attracted to places that may be frequented by a higher percentage of "naive noobs". I appreciate you may wish to keep going to Braunworth to meet up with old friends, but probably more practical would be to find a new and less griefer-attractive place to meet up and chat; look at Search for "coffee house" and you will find some marvellous places, that often are semi-empty where you can start up a whole new era of happy meet-up sessions. Also, it would be great if you and your friends would **bleep** into Braunworth from time to time and rescue a noob, and show them a few good places to set them on their journey in SL. It's how I started to realise there was life outside Korea3. And continue, as Rolig says, with the ARs whenever you see trolls/griefers. They will continue to keep making alts and returning to the infohubs, as unfortunately this is only as far as their imaginations will stretch. Try not to give them opportunities and reasons to want to come back.
  2. Greetings, Sheila Check that your hard drive is not over-full, that your connection is steady, and that your graphics card drivers are up-to-date. All of the above can cause the symptoms you have listed. Normally if, for example, there has been an interruption or problem with your broadband connection (often this will happen with wireless, so be hard-wired whenever possible), you can return to world looking like a cloud. Character test will help, as will clearing cache, but not if the connection continues to be poor. Things will refuse to load if there is not much RAM on your computer left. Ensure your computer is regularly cleaned, inside and out, remove any unnecessary programs and files and save precious documents on a separate external hard drive, or via other data storage methods, then do a disk cleanup and defragment.
  3. Welcome to Second Life Answers, NaimaSeria There is no earthly reason why you should not be able to pay from your debit/credit card to purchase L$. What message appears on your screen when you try to? *** To add more to this thread, you can do so by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit".
  4. Firestorm is currently the most popular third party viewer, but it's all a matter of personal taste. I personally prefer Phoenix, because the user interface and extra features suit me, as a previous 1.23 viewer user. I do like Firestorm, because it is highly customisable, and because I can upload photographs directly to my Flickr account. I believe with Exodus you can also do this. Imprudence has fabulous lighting settings, and is great for photographers. It really depends what you like to do in Second Life, what features you need. I would suggest you try one or two of the third party viewers for yourself and have a good play with all the features and settings.
  5. Welcome to Second Life and to Second Life Answers, lucha98 Assuming you have downloaded the Second Life viewer, if you would like to go through the very basic orientation process, you can do so by visiting one of the Welcome Island Public sims - just please click on the link below. http://slurl.com/secondlife/Welcome%20Island%20Public4/25/227/27 Take your time, and enjoy the ride! You are about to embark on a great adventure. :matte-motes-big-grin:

Someone appears to be watching his im's. Your friend might just be having a bit of fun with you, pretending that someone is spying on you both. It really isn't possible that someone is listening into IMs. There are some people who choose in Second Life to deform themselves and blame other people for it too. People are strange.
  7. Greetings, caligirl07 Look towards the top right hand side of this screen, and type into the search box "Research" without pressing enter, and you'll see why you're getting the responses you are getting. Many many MANY times we are asked these questions. If you really are interested in Second Life, and the residents within, you MUST spend time carrying out your own proper research, and not pick the brains of the relatively few residents who visit these forums.
  8. I'm sorry I haven't been able to return to this thread for a couple of days. Are you still having the same problem? I was hoping others on these forums would come forward with their expertise and advice too. Maybe you have submitted a support ticket to LL by now; or if you are a premium member, have a go with Live Chat. (Go to Live Chat or submit a support ticket via the "help" button at the top of this screen - then options are listed on the right hand side of the subsequent screen.) So sorry I am unable to help you in this moment.

The Enviroment (World) in SL is dynamic, ever changing. In most MMO's it is static, it never changes. So at a minimum, everytime I enter a SIM in SL, even if it is cached on my Computer, a check has to be made if anything has changed on that SIM since the last time I was there. And then in real time, any changes being made......whether I add or delete a Prim or change a texture, that information has to be updated on the Server and also sent to any one on the SIM or who enters it later. Otherwise we lose the shared experience. How often have we experienced this: Last night I was out dancing with a friend. We both hopped on couples dance balls. I started dancing almost immediately. It was 30 seconds later before I saw them start to move. They even commented to me that it was taking a long time for them to start animating. It was a very crowded club, over forty people there, and they were on a lower end computer. Eventually I suggested that we go elsewhere to even out the shared experience. I'm usually the one on the low-end computer that my friends need to take to a quieter venue :matte-motes-frown: I haven't anything technically intelligent to add to this thread; am really still impressed at how it does all work at all, when you consider behind the scenes it looks like this (bbang on first server) Governor Linden's mansion still has the old maps up, showing how much SL has grown over the years. Obviously a hell of a lot of thought was put into the original creation of Second Life, but now it is what it is. And I love it, warts, lag, funky sim crossings and all. :matte-motes-big-grin-wink: Might be fun, though, if LL let the regular residents who are also programmers in RL loose to make improvements (off to sew my sides back together again).
  10. Good stuff. Hope your issue is fixed. Darn frustrating when things aren't working quite how they should be doing. Thanks for keeping your thread updated.
  11. You mentioned something about crashing slightly less often when you use a different viewer, and this suggests you might need to update your graphics card drivers. Also, could have something to do with your system's resources. Have a clean-up session, remove any unnecessary programs and content from your hard drive, do a defragment, check drivers are up-to-date and let's take it from there.
  12. It sounds like you've tried various methods to fix this issue already. Please check what your avatar is wearing; scripted attachments, such as those contained in resizable hair or boots/shoes and HUDs can cause TPs to fail.
  13. (Bump!) Ok. You say you've tried a lot of ways to fix this, including a character test. When you are at the character test stage, what happens? Do you see a default avatar? Or are parts missing or strange to look at? If your avatar looks complete when you do the character test, then the fault lies in what you're adding to your avatar, and if this is the case, then you need to apply skin, shape, clothing all individually until you find the thing that is causing your avatar's appearance to go awry.
  14. Welcome to Second Life Answers, jadeblu I have Vista also. Vista is not the problem. Please ensure that previous version of Second Life was completely uninstalled before you download the latest version. Also, bear in mind that computers suffer with wear and tear, and maybe (maybe) your graphics card is protesting. Also, if your computer has become full over time, there is less room for Second Life to run. It would probably be useful to see what your computer's specifications are. You can add more information to this thread by clicking on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit" (there is no "reply" button ) Other responses will follow. Please keep checking back here for suggestions how to fix your problem. --||-
  15. Hello, polluxtwin1, and welcome to Second Life Answers. I really really REALLY doubt you can get the money returned to you. It was a careless error, one any human being can make. In your shoes, I would contact that person to whom I paid the money and ask 'pretty please' if I could have the money back. Maybe they will laugh and log in and return it to you with good humour. If after a couple of weeks you hear nothing though, then you will just have to put this down to experience I feel. Linden Lab are very unlikely to get involved, but there is nothing stopping you from submitting a support ticket via the "help" button at the top of this screen and asking. And, of course, if you do have a happy solution to this, we would love to have an update. More information can be added to this thread if you click on "options" at the top right hand corner of your original post and "edit". (Sadly there is no 'reply' button on this Answer section - silly software that we have )
  16. Perrie Juran wrote: After over 5 years as a Basic Member, the last time LL made a special offer to upgrade to Premium I decided to give it a whirl. Today, after giving it a three month trial I cancelled it, "downgrading" back to Basic. After downgrading I was presented with the survey above. For me it was really simple. Not enough added value. I can do more for less as a Basic Member than I could do as a Premium. It would take a minimum 1024meter included to begin to make it an added value for me. Perhaps LL should be looking at youtube for more insightful information/reviews. Actually, though, to call it a Downgrade Survey seems a little insulting. I personally am happy to be a premium member, but I only now have the very basic 512m parcel of land, and rarely even spend my weekly stipend. And I do know plenty of people who choose to not go premium, but they do have payment information on file, and spend a lot of money inworld, keeping the economy going, paying for rental on large parcels of land, and keeping their wardrobe updated with all the latest pretty things. Support is just not there for those people though, and support should be equal for everyone. Maybe all residents should have the survey's first question though - "How likely is it that you would recommend Second Life to a friend or colleague", and then "If so, why?"... "If not, why?"
  17. Greetings, Lipta Do other people see you ok?
  18. At any one time there will be a lot of people with this particular complaint. New code is rolled out to the main grid most Tuesday's and if you happen to notice your issue started round about then you could be right in thinking there is a connection to the new code and your issue. However, often this can occur when a person is having a problem with their internet connection generally, or because their avatar has scripted attachments. The information about an avatar apparently doesn't transfer from one server to another at exactly the same rate, and so it is wise to remove resize scripts from attachments, or remove unnecessary HUDs. You can test if it is your attachments that are causing the problem by teleporting around a few different places with absolutely no attachments whatsoever. Check your internet connection also, and be hard wired rather than wireless whenever possible. Other answers will follow, so do please keep checking back here.
  19. LaylAmoure Latte wrote: No I really don't feel better for the rant, but it needs to be said again and again, until the powers that be start paying attention. I understand we are all in the same sinking ship, and it infuriates me to keep getting the same lame answers over and over....You are supposed to check the grid status report....My whole point is that it is unreliable and that unless you check it once a minute, and even then you aren't safe. A few weeks ago, long after their maintenance was to have finished they didn't post the done message for many hours after the time they said they were going to be done. When I contacted live chat to see if they were done, they couldn't tell me, as they are instructed to look on the status report too. Well if someone forgets or fails to post something..No one knows. They could update it 30 seconds after you check it, and having to check more than once at log in is insanity, and very inconvenient. We have had in world notices "since 2008" I can assure you they were more recent than that since it stopped. I was told it caused some problems is why it was stopped, but I can guarantee it has caused a lot more since it was stopped, along with their backups before rolling restarts are supposed to be done immediately before a restart and I have proof that they are not done that way, as you can read in previous posts about in world notifications a must. If as you say someone was let go that used to handle issues in SL, surely this person was not the only person capable of handling issues, and my point is they make a lot of money off of their users...It's time they started acting like it, and train knowledgeable people, capable of doing their jobs well, pay them accordingly, and re-institute In-World notifications, so that users don't feel like we are being bent over the couch so to speak without any lube. A little warning goes a long way, when blog postings are so completely unreliable....And no .I still don't feel any better about it. LOL I used to get accused of wearing rose-tinted glasses, now I can see what might have been happening when they fell off (see emboldened text above). L.O.L. Yes, you're right, the chap I grieve for who was unceremoniously fired from LL was not the only person working in the department responsible for keeping the grid well. And communication does need improving. Keep our eye on any threads started by Maestro Linden - he seems to have got his head stuck above the sandbags currently, so get your bayonets ready (winkey smiley face). Me and my computer aren't up for any argey bargey today, so I'm off out to RL to wait for the gas man to come and service my boiler (sadly, not a euphemism).
  20. Greetings, Heavy666 Main accounts often have heaps more content in their inventory, or different attachments, or different display names. There can be several reasons why you're not able to log in. In your shoes I would bring up a log in screen, but without logging in, I would use the top menus to clear cache, and attempt to log in to a different start location (I use Furball or Quarrel - empty waterland sims). There has been some maintenance works been carried out on servers, regarding inventory. You may find it useful to check the grid status pages to see if this provides more of a clue too. http://status.secondlifegrid.net/ Other answers will follow, so please do keep checking back here if my suggestions do not work for you.
  21. Did you fully uninstall the old version of Phoenix prior to installing the new version? As others say in this thread, it's always useful to add your computer's specifications when asking for technical help.
  22. LaylAmoure Latte wrote: I can't win for losing......SL tells me it is my fault for not chekcing grid status if I lose something....SO I do this RELIGIOUSLY NOW....Today I log in.....I check grid status board, as a vendor was kind enough to send me some replacement items I lost during a rolling restart......according to the grid status...Nothing at all happening today....so I try to rez the object the vendor sent....and poof, didnt rez, and disappeared from inventory.....I try rezzing other items that were copy...Nope ...I log out and back in....NADA....I do it again....NADA....I go to my viewer support group...ask if anyone else is having problems....someone gives me that stupid grid status board link....and what do you know....Viola....NOW it is there...OMG...if you people do not start inworld notices soon I am going to lose my mind... This is the 5th time notices to that blog have popped up within seconds after I check the status board....Someone with the powers that be in SL needs to start letting people know in world again, this blog is a JOKE!!!!!! and yes I am FURIOUS. Its not like I am here 24/7 and when I do come in, there is always a problem lately. I have had an island for 2 months now that I can't get my items onto because you are always doing something or having problems. Not having inworld notifications is NOT working. Feel better for the rant? It's always good to vent, and although we, as residents like yourself, can do very little about this current situation, we can certainly empathise and sympathise. Recently LL decided to sack someone who I held in high regard on the technical side. Things seem to have gone even more pear-shaped since his banishment. The other Lindens would appear to be holding things together with twigs and chewing gum until the glue arrives. Inworld notifications would be really good - I am sure we used to have them around 2008; yellow notices would come on screen saying "don't rezz any no-copy items" while they did maintenance. Just know that we're all in the same boat (sinking ship) here. And all we can do in this moment is hang on tight, and hope things settle down once everyone is clear about their roles at LL again after the recent sacking(s).
  23. Welcome, datasmithfc (BigDaddy), to Second Life and to Second Life forums. When you are inworld, make use of the Search facility and look up the keyword of Sandbox. This will give you many Sandbox options. (Tip: choose a sandbox that is not at the top of the list, and this will be quieter, to give you more space and privacy for your experimenting. Some sandboxes do allow scripting. Some do not. To know this, you can click your mouse against the land details at the top of the screen when you in a sim, and more information about the sim will pop up for you to see.)
  24. Thanks for updating your thread, Mel. If you believe you have up-to-date billing information on file, and you've checked you are still running as a Premium Account, you can give Billing a call on one of the following freephone numbers: Contacting Linden Lab billing support If you have a non-technical issue related to billing concerns, you can call the Linden Lab billing team at the following toll-free numbers: US/Canada: 800-294-1067 France: 0805-101-490 Germany: 0800-664-5510 Japan: 0066-33-132-830 Portugal: 800-814-450 Spain: 800-300-560 UK: 0800-048-4646 Brazil: 0800-762-1132 Long distance (not free): 703-286-6277 Billing Support is available twenty four hours a day, seven days a week in the US, UK, and Canada and 7 days a week in all other countries listed above.
  25. Greetings, johnboy Ensure you do not have any type of security orb activated. Otherwise, if people are having problems teleporting into your home, I would imagine they are also having problems teleporting generally, and they need to check what attachments they have. Scripts in attachments, such as hair, shoes, or HUDs can often cause problems when teleporting or crossing sims.
