"Additionally, if you persist in using an abusive tone, you may be subject to inworld disciplinary action." Given that the Cornfield is no longer operational in its original purpose, what on earth does this mean? I'm picturing a Linden coming to your home, dressed in thigh-high leather boots, armed with a Cat o Nine-Tails, to chain you to a post and give you a good flogging. :matte-motes-big-grin-squint:
  2. khonsuu wrote: So Linden Labs not only logs all your private correspondance in-world, they also reserve the right to chase you down in the real world, and use those logs against your real person in your real life. How do I know this? Because they say it explicitly in the Privacy Policy and the Terms Of Service, both of which can be found in the black bar at the bottom of the page you are viewing right now. ... Your thoughts? They are obliged to, by law, hand over all information to the authorities if a user commits a crime on SL. Whether that's financial fraud or sexual age-play or whatever. They HAVE to include a clause that allows them to have over information about you, otherwise they would not be allowed to legally continue operating. This is not new to this particular version of the TOS.
  3. What I don't understand is why Ann-Marie is allowed to do this when anyone else caught littering Linden land with scripted objects would be banned for griefing. The FIC is apparently alive and well.
  4. My avatar is 6'4" (prim height not agent height) which makes me pretty short for a guy on the grid. I'm also a bit more "cuddly" than average; less muscle and more bodyfat, and a skin that's less toned-looking. Which is pretty much how I am in RL; short and cuddly. I often find other avatars towering above me but I don't care. No-one's going to possibly believe I'm a kid. Not with this beard.
  5. Gentianpoet Galtier wrote: I have a friend that has a theory that the female avatars you see with gi-normous boobs and gargatuan hips and posterior cheeks are really men. Which in her mind says this is what I want to see as opposed to this is what I want to be. I don't know but it's as good a theory as any. I have noticed that a lot of female avatars with that kind of shape have users who are based in South America, particularly Brazil. That kind of female shape is highly regarded in RL, in that part of the world. Which is probably why Brazil is second only to the USA in the number of cosmetic surgery procedures carried out. Yes the owners of those avatars might be men, I'd also lay a bet that they're South American.
  6. It means your neighbour has ban-lines up (to prevent unauthorised access to their property). It doesn't affect your property (except for the ugliness of the ban-lines). You can toggle your view of them in the World menu (world > show more > untick Ban Lines). If you still don't like your Linden Home you can abandon it (in the About Land options) and apply for a new one, but you cannot get a refund.
  7. They're bots, they used to go round under the "Movie-star" group tag. There were some hanging around near my mainland home for months, a year or so ago. What they do, no-one seems to know for sure but my guess is they're land-bots, scanning for land for sale at low prices. And yes, as long as they are registered as bots with Linden Lab, they are legal, legit and harmless.
  8. My bet is that there is only one moderator for the forums, and the ads are left alone until he or she wakes up.
  9. I've noticed that they're getting harder and harder to find. I think they turn the rezzers off because they're giving away too much money. I would't be surprised if they quietly abandon the Realms soon.
  10. You have 150 items in your Received Items folder? Do you shop a lot or do you just never enpty it out? :matte-motes-agape:
  11. For purposes of nostalgia I am trying to re-create the look I had when I first joined in 2008. I have everythng but the skin which I've since deleted, and I want to find it again. It was called something like "Male roleplay skin" and it came from a freebie box in a medieval/fantasy roleplay region. The key feature of the skin was the ginger beard. Does anyone know if this skin is still available anywhere?
  12. Playing Linden Realms is an easy enough way to earn the sort of money you would have earned from camping. You can get up to about L$50 an hour, if you play when its not very busy (assuming the portal exchanges are working, which they often aren't).
  13. Arosa, which is like a German/Alpine village. And it's rezz-enabled. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Arosa/43/8/125
  14. Just think, in a year's time you can post about how, on this day in 2013, a Brit won Wimbledon for the first time in 77 years.
  15. If you don't want to be cammed at home, go to "About land" > "Options" and uncheck the box saying "avatars on other parcels can see and chat with avatars on this parcel". Or ask your landlord to do it for you if you don't have the rights to do it yourself. You will then appear to be invisible to anyone not in your parcel. If you don't want to be cammed outside of your home, don't leave your home. Those are the only ways, short of not logging in at all, to stop the sort of thing that happened.
  16. The clean-shaven version of my Le Lutka "Caleb" skin works well for a teen. Mine is pale and ginger but there are tanned/dark hair versions too. I'm not posting a naked pic here but yes, the body-toning is understated enough.
  17. A windlight setting in which the Ambient light is significantly lighter than the Sun/Moon light will help your view to be closer to what your friends see. It eliminates much of the nasty shadows and negates the need to wear a facelight. World > Environment Editor > Sky Presets > New Preset. Use the coloured boxes labelled S/M Colr and Ambient, and also the time-of-day slider. When you're happy with it, give your new preset a name, check the box at the bottom that says "Make this preset my new sky setting" and hit Save.
  18. Griffin Ceawlin wrote: Lewis Luminos wrote: A better solution is for the venue to require group membership for entry and charge a one-time fee to join the group. What if I'm just "browsing" and I'm not sure that I want to join a group? I may not even have a group slot to spare. Some of my groups I may have already paid to get into. To have to leave one just to go check a venue out??? To have to pay for such a "privilege" when I have no idea whether I'll like the place or not??? What if I decide, after five minutes, the the lag is unbearable, the music sucks, the people there are idiotic gesturbators and particle whores, and I want nothing to do with the place? Do I get a refund? Those questions would be up to the venue owner to decide. But if Second Life itself required a joining fee it would surely be a lot more than the few lindens it might be to join a club's VIP group. I don't intend to charge a fee for my own club, but if I did at some point decide that it was necessary, I would manually refund the entry fee to everyone who doesn't grief. The purpose isn't to raise revenue after all, it's to stop griefers getting in.
  19. Nope, it's your landlord, not you. They have set a specific landing spot which means that wherever you put your skybox, you will never be able to teleport into it. However, you have Firestorm and that has a nifty feature that you can use instead. Go to Preferences and in the Firestorm tab, click on "CmdLine1" and make sure the box is ticked to "Enable usage of chat bar as a command line". Then you stand on the ground below your skybox and type in local chat "gth 1024" or whatever the height your skybox is at. I'm not sure whether this will over-ride the landlord's teleport-routing but it's worth a shot. If it doesn't work, and your landlord refuses to change the settings, you may be able to use a scripted teleporter.
  20. bluelacroix wrote: So now I'm on step 4. Just to make sure things went smoothly, I did an Edit on the box I'm sitting on, changed the Z by one, but I stay sitting in space now, just under the box. The step says I will TP with the box height. I am afraid if I make Z 1024 it will go up and leave me behind! Why doesn't it take me with it? I've used this technique a lot in the past and it has always worked for me. I just tried it again and it works fine. I cannot think of any reason why it doesn;t work for you. bluelacroix wrote: Also, since I'm sitting on it, on the edge, when I do get up there, and click "Stand", won't I by standing NEXT TO the box, and therefore plummet back to earth? Yes, yes you will. You'll have to hit Page Up very quickly after you stand up. If you are using the official SL viewer, you'll need to get a Flight Feather if you don;t have one already. This will enable you to fly higher than normally allowed. https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Flight-Feather-hud-cmt/1267012 If you are using Firestorm you won;t need this; the Flight Assist is built into the viewer. Here's another thing to try. Rez a box at ground level and stretch it out to a platform big enough for your skybox. Don't bother trying to sit on it, just Edit the height by typing 1024 in the Z co-ordinates in the Edit box. The platform will seem to disappear as it's instantly transported up to the chosen altitude. Fly up there, using your Flight Feather. Rez the skybox on the platform. Once the skybox is rezzed and locked in place, you can delete the platform.
  21. I've rented the same waterfront parcel in Badger from Aph for, oh, four and a half years now? She rocks. :matte-motes-little-laugh:
  22. You cannot unlink parts of an attachment if you are wearing it. You need to rez it out on the ground first. Then, in edit mode, click the "Edit linked parts" box and select the prims that you want to unlink.
  23. If your box is close to a sculpted or megaprim object it may not be possible to sit on it, because the "boundary" of the sculpt/megaprim is much larger than the visible part of it.. Try moving the box 100m up into the air first and then sit on it.
  24. It wouldn't work. Most people will not sign up for something that costs, with no trial. From some countries, particularly Eastern Europe and South America, payment may not be not possible at all. And if there is a free trial, people will still use that for griefing. A better solution is for the venue to require group membership for entry and charge a one-time fee to join the group.
  25. I can get advanced lighting and shadows on an nVidea 530 (albeit very slowly). Either of the graphics options you have mentioned should work fine. 4gb RAM is enough, if you're not using a lot of other stuff at the same time. If you also want to run Photoshop or Blender whilst on SL, I would reccommend the 8gb. Alienware... meh. As with Apple, you pay a premium for the badge. You can probably save money by getting something more generic with the same specs. What will make the biggest difference to your experience is a wired internet connection, not wireless. Get yourself a long network cable and sit plugged in to the router whilst playing SL.
