Hello everyone and especially to all explorers of the mainland:

I wanted to let you all know that the Ranunculus sim on the main land is down.  There are ongoing physics problems which have been lasting for at least two months.  LL cannot figure out why it's happening.  Therefore, if you try to visit, fly or drive on that sim, your avatar will freeze.  You will then need to teleport to another sim for this to be fixed.  Ranunculus is on Route 2.  Hopefully this problem gets fixed soon.

Are you sure?
Physics has been deliberately disabled in Region/Estate -> Debug.

When physics is disabled on a region, avatars cannot move.

If they enable physics, the sim gets super laggy and crashes.  And LL can't seem to figure out why.  For those of you who are not aware, the Ranunculus sim used to be home of the Silver King Motel and Diner.  It attracted a lot of newbies to the area.  There were also many griefing problems in the past taking place all the time.  Even though Silver King moved elsewhere, the area still attracts avatars who attempt to sabotage the sim.

I have been in contact with LL and this was their latest response to me in regards to why physics are disabled:

Physics are currently turned off in this region, while our engineers work to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, it is not possible to remain in this region for more than a moment when physics are turned on. We are really sorry for this inconvenience, and are working to resolve this as quickly as possible.

If you have any additional questions regarding this issue, please feel free to include them in this support ticket.

Thank you,

Right now, physics is on in Ranunculus, and everything seems to be working. The Linden beach ball bounces around normally and rolls down the hill. My bikes work OK. Over 99% of scripts are executing. Noting strange in the sim's object list.

The road crossing into Brindle on the road has some intermittent sim crossing sinkage problems. I'm not seeing support prims there, so that's probably just mole work needed.

Hi, guys!

Just wanted to let you all know that physics have been re-enabled in Ranunculus. We are cautiously optimistic that this issue is resolved.

Thanks,

thanks Kat - now if you can also fix the logins we will check out =^.^=

Now, you know that if they are dealing with more DDoS stuff, then they can't just "fix the logins".

You know it was just a friendly between the lines reminder that telling peole stuff is fixed while no one can log in might be percieved as cynic by some customers...

Those Linden PR folks really sometimes need some more schoolings ;)

Hi, Fionalein,

Sorry! I'm not PR, just regular support - I happened to be working on this specific issue, and the residents above indicated that they would like an update, so I provided one.

Welcome to the forums Kat, I know you have always been awesome with all the Land related problems I've thrown at you. I hope we see you again sometimes!

Daw, don't be so hard on Kat, she really is pawesome and one of the nicest Lindens I've dealt with. As the network team handled the DDoS it likely gave the Concierge team time to catch up a little and deal with a few of the issues on their long list of tickets. That she was able to update is quite ok in my eyes as not everyone at the Lab will have the qualifications to do networking.

I'm just tagging my issue onto this thread since it is quite possibly related.  Wirtz, on Adult Mainland has recently suffered from appalling problems of poor server performance...script run below 5% and simulator physic FPS tanking at every login/out or TP.  Time Dilation is frequently below 0.7 for quite a few seconds at such times and we have not been able to sort the issue out.  Clearly the region is suffering, but as to why I am clueless.

Lilian and Whitney Linden have dealt with this issue, restarting the region twice recently but the problem has returned each time.  Now given the nature of the largest parcel on the region, Street Whores, the script number has always been high, and nothing has changed recently in that regard.

So we are left scratching our collective heads as to what has caused this performance drop.  LL's response is, not unreasonably, that the issue is purely to do with the large number of scripts run on our parcel.  Why this should have suddenly become a capacity issue when it was not before is a mystery to me.  Maybe wiser heads than mine can suggest a sensible course of action?

I know two other Zindra regions that are also seeing really bad performance. Stupidly bad.

The only common thing I can see is both regions have neighboring regions with very high AFK Farm use, so 30+ child agents (child in this sense is not referring to kid tyvm)   on an 8K parcel. (Bloody afk farms are a blight on performance)

Lag will go to 1500ms-2500ms+ in these two regions intermittantly. The best I can see is the lag correlates with a child agent appearing in the afk farms. That's with the AFK farms invisible too.

ALERT:

The sim has started acting up again before 7PM SLT.  Seems to be restarting supposedly on it's own several times as I keep getting notifications about it since I have a lag meter out.

For a while I could not access the sim, but eventually that fixed itself.  Just thought I'd point this out.
