bethanyharris21
Hi Guys, I am planning to buy maitreya body - (right now I have ebody classic but majority of designers dont make ebody clothes) and I want to keep my head from my classic AV. I have read in forums that to do so i can buy appliers for Classic AV from Glam Affair. Problem is I will be either be using Exotic or Indian Skin for Maitreya and i cannot find appliers for these two. OR is it option that I can buy full body skin? (for Classic AV head & Maitreya Body) Will that work? Please help :) -Beth

Rhonda Huntress
Glam Affair skins are built into Maitreya body. No need for body appliers, just use the tones on the included HUD. Here, try looking at this and see if it helps: Edited August 27, 2018 by Rhonda Huntress
Rhonda Huntress
Let me also say, you don't HAVE to use Glam Affair skins. This is usually suggested because the skins are stock with the body. However, there are other places that still sell system skins and also have body appliers for Maitreya. LAQ, for example, still has all the Glow skin line out but you would need to buy a Maitreya skin applier in the tone you want to go with the Glow skin you choose. With Glam Affair, you basically already have all their Maitreya skin appliers so any classic avatar skin from them will match.
angeoco
You can also use Omega skins. Find a skin package that includes both a system skin and either an Omega or Maitreya skin, or separate packages in the same skin tone from the same creator. Get the Omega Relay for Maitreya, and attach its HUD to your screen before clicking the Omega skin applier.

It is indeed true that you cannot find any system skins by Glam Affair in their in-world shops nor in their marketplace store. I don't know if any of her gacha skins have ever been for system heads, but that might be something to search the marketplace for as you can often get gacha skins very cheaply there. But as stated before you certainly are not limited to only using Glam Affair skins. You just need to find a skinner that makes system skins and also has body appliers in either Omega or Maitreya.
Phorumities
since i suspect less than half the people have switched to mesh heads any skin maker that doesn't offer a system version of their skins is cutting themselves out of half the market

That's a weird decision. I wonder if bakes on mesh causes more problems with heads than it fixes.

I'll speculate here. The old system skins were all 512x512. That resolution doesn't work well with mesh heads/bodies. Since the GA system skins were 512s I would think it a good decision to pull those especially with BoM coming. Perhaps, and again, I am only speculating, but perhaps it was a move looking toward the future and what it would take to update in line with BoM. I know if I were a skinner, I would certainly be thinking about what I need to do to prepare for it's inevitable release.
Rhonda Huntress
I probably shoudn't have said "weird" but rather "I don't understand." I'm almost positive there is some good reason for the choice that I don't know about.

Rhonda Huntress
Be sure and get demos of everything. That way you know you can put it all together once you spend real hard cash for the pieces.

iamwakingup
Word of advice: If you do use Glam Affair skin, the Maitreya HUD is no longer usable with the new skins they came out with (if you are looking for a match). This is the skin if you buy it from the Glam Affair & Tabeau store. The skins from the Glam Affair II store still sells skins that is compatible with the Maitreya HUD. I also read somewhere that Maitreya will be releasing an updated HUD that will contain the old and new Glam Affair skins - not sure when though.

Not for classic skins anymore I am glad if Maitreya will keep the old skins, as owners of the old classic skins would surely be seriously pissed off if their heads suddenly didn't match the updated bodies anymore. Gryphon Ronas, CSR for Maitreya, has verified that when the update comes out the new AND old Glam Affair tones will be included. There is no ETA on when that update will be released. In the images that show the 'patches' you're using the default Second Life day/night cycle, which is notoriously unkind to avatars' skin. The brighter areas around your eyes are just the way the light from the SL sun is falling on your face, especially when it's overhead, at (or around) default midday, and the darker areas are the unfortunate shadows that result from the default SL lighting cycle. By contrast, in the other image, you're visiting a store that has set a default Windlight (SL's lighting and atmosphere settings) that flatters your avatar. Notice how the lighting is brighter and more uniform across your whole face and body. You most likely have the option set in your viewer to automatically change Windlights according to how they are set for a specific region. It's possible to override that setting and use any other Windlight, so that you're using the well-lit one all the time. I'm not sure what viewer you're using (nor, at this moment, do I have time to dig around and find exact locations in your viewer's preferences menu where you can find them, since I'm typing this before leaving for work) but look for a way to disable the automatic Windlight change on moving to a new area, and also for a Windlight setting such as: Nam's Optimal Skin & Prim, or [NB] Alpine Skinlight RGB, or CalWL. In Firestorm you can find hundreds of Windlight presets in the Quick Preferences menu (small toolbar button with the Phoenix icon on it). If you can't find how to change it, let us know which viewer you're using, and hopefully someone will come along in the next few hours to tell you where to find the settings you need to change for that viewer.
Fionalein
I found out most of my skin problems poofed when I increased my GPU settings. Windlight might be a fix on low graphics, but if your skin still needs windlight at higher settings I consider it broken. Mind you, you cannot influence other user's windlight, so it should look OK without it. With that in mind I still use lower graphics settings in busy areas.

Blush Bravin
If your computer can handle the higher graphic settings and you can use advanced lighting model then you should not have to resort to using the bright light windlights that wash out everything including the background. However, if your computer/graphics can't handle ALM and enabled shadows then using one of those skin optimal windlights is your best bet. I'd try testing both and see how your machine handles it and which effect you like better. Good luck! 1
