I was just wondering how many accounts in SL are just for spamming or dead.Maybe there really only 200 people in SL and the rest are spam or dead accounts.

Added: It was just a flash thought, not a serious one

Well, apparently I have 190 alts.

So there's actually only ten people here.

Yep, it's pretty ridiculous that out of all the forums I know of this is the only one that seems to have no (effective) filtering to deal with the
daily
innundation

of spam.

I started this thread before I went to bed and I wake up to see yet more callgirl spam. Unbelievable.

Both the choice of Forum software and the outsourced support probably went to the lowest bidder.  Probably the same is true for the people who did the Marketplace.

I do not browse the forums often, but yes there should be a way to filter out the escort spam.

I only have RIC'ed one of the spammers once, but hopefully they can figure out where the majority of these spams are coming from and then entirely IP block/ban them from getting on the forums or logging into SL.

I have no idea how this would work out, the only other choice is to block out people from making new threads if they don't have a certain amount of posts, and the person must have the posts approved by a moderator, and once they reach that certain number of posts they will no longer have to have a moderator approving the posts.

Anyways, spambots ANYWHERE are annoying, and I hope they can fix it.

You must be new here, hehe. :P This is not a facility that LL are capable of providing.

The spambots here are pretty much the dumbest setups out there, my old AOL E-mail used to get cleverer attempts against it. Almost any bayesian or heuristic filter would turf these kids out in moments, LL's inability/inaction to implement any such filter (beyond copypasta flood detection, lol) is just a result of their unwillingness to adequately support their products.

A small point: They are not "kids". They are adults, and forum spamming is a business method that works successfully.

Hahaha, well obviously. :D

Thaaaanks. I am skeptical that these cats (no, I don't really think they're cats) are getting effective results, but considering the low investment vs. moderate sales potential I wouldn't be too surprised to hear they're making a profit.
