  1. Free Dove provides NEW folks some nice things to get started with. I am not sure it is meant to be known as a "Freebie Shop" but more to help those just trying SL out . I hope that after a person has been here a few weeks they will invest some of their real money in SL to support all the great creators here not continue just doing freebies. I think it reasonable to require folks to be part of a group to receive free group gifts to avoid the "freebie farmers". I try to spend money with the creator groups that I am in, although, I am seeing a trend where to be in said groups for "free" gifts you are required to pay to join the group. Some charge a token amount, others charge quite a bit.
  2. Been many legitimate researchers in SL over the years, but just as many illegitimate folks posing as researchers bilking SL Residents. It can make it tough for actual researchers. I think before anyone goes to an anonymous web site that could be run by anyon, for good, or bad purposes, perhaps you can supply us with more information regarding this research project? How about a direct link to the research project you have stated has been thoroughly reviewed? If it has been reviewed, has it been published? Where has it been published? What are the results of these prior studies. Do you have direct links? What is the name of the current research project this survey is linked to? Is this a private research project? Public? NIH funded? Do you have the name and an email address of the lead researcher, who can be contacted for more detail?
  3. I have not tried Curvey 3d and really know nothing about it. You might consider Blender; it's free. Blender's user interface is much easier than it use to be.
  4. Builder's Brewery is a great place to begin learning things like scripting, building, making clothes, how to use photoshop/gimp. The classes they have are wide ranghing at varying days and times. Also you can do a search for NCI, they too have classes you can take. Something else you might try, is looking under events in Search to what classes might be currently going on all over the grid. Many many text based and video tutorials you can google and are on the web.
  5. I am an "oldie" I suppose, but the name does not ring a bell. Can you be more specific about what types of textures s/he made that you are looking for?
  6. Did you look in the Blender folders? Did you try re-exporting something...should take you to where the default is and should find the file. Try running a search on your machine for the object name? By file extention?
  7. Yes, I am unwilling to compromise my viewer choice. It is the best for building in my opinion. I think my opinions and thoughts on the subject may have been taken as more than thoughts and opinions. I don't demand that creators compromise by making multiple versions of their objects I am simply stating what I would do with a particular product if I were not informed upfront before purchase. It is better to recieve a multitude of thoughts and opinions about a subject when mulling over a problem so you can proceed effectively when dealing with such a diverse population as we have in SL. As stated in the original, ..." I know I have seen some designers do this in things I have purchased and is much appreciated. I continue to patronize them because of this extra effort they have made. Demonstrates to me they are cognizant of what they are creating, the limitations of the various viewers, conscious of the needs/wants of their customers, tells me they want my Lindens." This statement was perhaps not a viewer solution, but it was a solution to the problem that was being asked, and an apparent solution being used by other designers. And, as far as accomodating customers, isn't that what everyone does that creates and sells a product in SL? I know I do my best to provide the best possible customer service and accomodate my customers. Often, it is simply a matter of providing them with information they may not have been aware of...such as this looks best in viewer xxx, Or, you can adjust setting xxxx to take full advantage of this creation. I applaud the effort of the OP on asking and finding the information needed to solve her issue. She will have very satisfied customers.
  8. You might want to post the information on the product pic itself, or where it is highly visible. I strictly run Phoenix; I don't care what anyone says or their logic..I like it...am use to it...and will run it till they take it from. me. Many still run Phoenix and you could end up with unhappy customers, especially if selling the product on Marketplace where you would be rated, which might effect future sales of the items. Then again, if a product is restricted to a single named viewer, I probably wouldn't buy the product either. I would be really mad if I bought something that was restricted to a single viewer and was not informed before hand. Is there anything you can do creative-wise to reduce the flicker in the type V1 viewers? Maybe sell/include two version types? I know I have seen some designers do this in things I have purchased and is much appreciated. I continue to patronize them because of this extra effort they have made. Demonstrates to me they are cognizant of what they are creating, the limitations of the various viewers, conscious of the needs/wants of their customers, tells me they want my Lindens.
  9. Hhhmmm...is a game and seems to equate itself to nothing more then a camping scheme all that LL is been working on when there are so many other issues that need to be solved? Shame, shame, shame on you LL. While I don't mind that you use my monthly tier to try to keep SL afloat, I think SL is predominantly filled with Adults. I suppose this must be your latest draw to try to entice new members, but in doing so, you continue to seek to kill off of those that have been paying your bills for years. I have not seen this game nor do I intend to. I don't have enough time as it is to create my world as I enjoy now, let alone play some sort of camping game to earn Ls. Why not invest in some new building tools for you customers? Why not go back and start supplementing those that teach building skills and other creative venues that are doing the work for you? Lower your prices on monthly tier and land sales? Why not increase the prim limit per sim? What about fixing the lag issue? How about creating a viewer that is both user friendly and builder friendly? Or, better yet, why not give us a choice of viewers? I am sure you can style V3 that is similar to V1.2.3 for those of us that build.
  10. PLEASE NO MORE...slutware, teenware, bellyware, gothware, or ripped ware! I don't know about everyone else but unless I am rping "Gone with the Wind", formal dresses should not make me look like one of those crocheted toilet paper covers my grandmother use to make. I can think of several markets that have not been over exposed as of yet, 1) classic clothing that is both elegant and understated, 2) antique/period clothing for both men and women (lots of RPers out there needing good quality RP costume, 3) winter clothing, 4) cultural ware. Me, I want copy/modify clothing. Someone had a good idea...make 2 versions...one copy/mod..the other mod/transfer. wouldn't be that hard to do other than remembering to set the permissions. I want to be able to lengthen the pants, sleeves, hemline if necessary since not all AVs are the same size. I want to be able to modify individual pieces of the skirt and any other attachments to fit ME...not how a creator envisions it will fit everyone. Please make sure you make it where the attachments, including skirts will go rather tiny so they fit a wider range for folks. NO RESIZE SCRIPTS. The worse thing they ever did was start using resize scripts for hair, shoes, and clothing! Offer a wide array of colors and fabrics. So many lovely dresses that I have seen I really like how they look, but it comes in the one color I hate. Or, the designer has used a fabric that either had no time to think about what they chose to use, or worse, they have no color/fabric sense. Also, unless you are offering matched accessories and shoes, be cognizant of what is out there for sale by other designers. If I can't match some of the accessories I have..say that pink pair of high heels that I just love (LOL...I hate pink) with that weirdly odd pink colored dress you made and you are offering no shoes to match...I won't be buying that pink dress. I wish you alot of luck, and look forward to some great new clothing to hit the market.
  11. @ Drongle, V1.23 in Phoenix allows you stretch prims up to 64 meters but you have to upgrade to the 1185 version of phoenix I believe. I don't know about SL's V1 viewer.
  12. Yes, thanks for the clarification, Chosen. I have a couple other thoughts and questions cause I am really trying to wrap my head around this. I have always respected the rights of other creators and damn sure don't wish to start disrepecting them now. But, it seems to me there are only so many ways of doing things in SL before you start getting overlaps of ideas EVEN if folks have never seen the work of others to be influenced by or make derivatives of. Eventually, you are going to get major stagnation in creativity. So, if you study art of the Medieval Period (or any clothing period for that matter) and find a particular artistic rendition of a dress you would like to re-create as a dress in SL , would the new creation be "influenced by" or a "derivative of" that piece of Medieval artwork? You are not re-creating the painting itself but an element of that painting., and yet, you are not re-creating the original element because you are using a different medium than used in the original (i.e. flat looking painted dress that you can only see part of turned into a 3-d version, where you have had to extrapolate all the details in what you think the original might have looked like during the period). Due to the limitations of the tools and the SL World, much of what I see in SL would be derivatives of the work of others. Take for example, if you will look on the marketplace, you will see lots of clothing templates. Many come with access to .psd files you can download, which you can alter, slap a tint to, add a purchased fabric texture, and voile an outfit. Basically, whatever you do to that template, would be "derivative of" because you personally did not create that template. Is that correct?
  13. Thanks Chosen for the info. This all started in my head again as I have been working on some clothing for myself...learning actually, or trying to....with the possible thought of selling them if I can perfect them. BUT, because there is only so much you can do with clothing via the templates, sculpt/prim add-ons, rezzed skirts, etc., it is worrisome. While I might be influenced by the work of others in SL and RL, the work is still done by me. Anyway, thanks ...your answer helped some.
  14. Okay hypothetical question here...does not necessarily apply to the OP...but one I have been curious about for a long time. How doesDMCA, copyright, and such apply to simultaneous, independently created items by different creators? Granted, the odds of it occuring are high, but it is a possibility, especially if creating with certain types of software that may generate/alter derivatives or using free textures from open sources to create your derivatives?
  15. I build on my main and usually RP on my alt. Someone said it above basically...building is addictive...if I stay on my main, I will futz and do stuff and not stop and go have fun. All my building stuff is on my main with an outrageous messy inventory. My Alt has a nice clean slim one!
  16. It is another one of those laws..."since you can't take care of yourselves using common sense, we are going to do it for you. We are Big Brother and you are too stupid to make correct choices; thus, we are going to limit your choices for you. Never mind we control your choices you can make. We are here to protect you. There there...you will be fine....you don't have to think and make decisions...we will make them for you laws " Pretty soon, we will no longer have choices to make! Hopefully, this will not be the case in my lifetime. It's sad that we have to have laws on the books because people are not willing to take responsibilty and own up to making bad choices.
  17. White to me in SL looks unnatural so rarely use it. It hurts my eyes. If you can edit the house or those particular textured bits, you could to a hint of gray and should tone it down some for you.
  18. I have some of the pictures from the old days before flexible prims. I am surprised we looked as good as we did. Skirts were static (like the sculpty ones eeewwww) and didn't move when you did. They awful compared to flexi skirts. Same with hair.
  19. Yes, very classy...I love them so much I have them in black and white. Bax makes a nice suede looking calf/knee boot as well.
  20. I look at someone dressed gansta in RL or SL and just laugh. Is no way I can take them serious, especially if I see their pants are falling off their butts. Makes me think they can't afford clothes that fit. And, typically women spend way more than men on clothes..and we change them more often. I don't think men even think about what they are wearing, of course, the same thing seems to happen in RL as well. Plus, I think in RL most just wear jeans and T-shirts. Why spend time on creating men's clothing when there is so little market for them? Honestly, if men spent more money buying clothes, I think you would see a larger variety of them and they would be less expensive. Is not a good answer. You could spend time designing for men, but be sure you also design women's clothing and keep designing if you want to make enough to cover your costs.
  21. Check with the folks that gave the class at NCI; they should be able to assist you. If you are wanting a shorter skirt length, would change the prim size on the Z axis...since I don't have what you are using...if you are using a premade prim...set the size of Z at .500 and work your way up or down.
  22. I am not even optimistic. LL has had a number of promient folks on their board or working for them in top positions over the years. NONE have listened to the "bread and butter" users that keep this platform afloat. It is the user/customer that provides feedback that should drive the improvement of a product. SL is one of the places that treats it's customer/user base as if we were stupid. Issues are still unresolved on the JIRA . We are given what they think the "masses" want, which is fine for most gaming environments that confine you to a few static character choices and serves the pre-teen/teen world. I find it terribly sad that a unique vision such as Philip had has been lost to the almighty dollar. Of course, he is in very good company these days. I am an adult. I come to SL as an adult. I expect adult things like mature conversations, various themed roleplay, or interesting philosophical evens, or to create things for the generous amount of real money I spend with LL and numerous content creators each month. If I wanted to do pointless static questing or shoot em ups that are mindless babysitters (funny how TV has been replaced by computer gaming babysitters) creating a population of mindless zombies geared toward the average, I will log into WOW or create a pointless SIM account. SL has always been a unique venue. You can participate and create your environment. You have the opportunity to really interact with people from around the world in things that do matter. Amazingly enough, you might even get a chance to experience or understand another culture or issue from a different perspective. Bringing on board those geared toward a less than unique experience with emphasis on mass marketing and mindles zombie creation really does not make my heart go pitter pat nor bolster my confidence. *sits back and waits to be even minimally impressed*
  23. Thanks everyone for the input! I will do a bit more investigation with your tips and information.
  24. Not sure this is the correct forum, but is there a way to detect if someone has put spy scripts on your land? Nothing is showing up as and object via owner land sweep of the sim, but I know at one time it was said hidden scripts could be used on land and no show up via object return. Thanks!
