There's tonnes of really awful mesh stuff around, especially in fashion. Baggy pants, clothes that only fit the most pony-riding of all pout-faced pony-riders. Stuff that doesn't fit anyone, doesn't look good on anyone. Poor rigging, alpha layers that doesn't alpha all they need, creasing, twisting, a bajillion vertices just to model a bikini top. For a super-mesh-head to have not seen any of this by this point strikes me as unlikely. And how about ripped, unrigged and/or broken content from games, which has been enabled by mesh import? Hardly makes SL look better than it used to; pretending mesh only has pros and no cons is not workable. If you think prim artists these days still use tricks from 2007, you're being either ignorant or dismissive. Everyone can use Materials, as one example. People are always getting better at their craft - a lot of what I do now, using prims, wasn't possible in 2007. I learned mesh in the olden days, making models for Quake mods, then briefly working in the games and film industry. I still have bits of paper telling me I'm good at it, but I don't use tools like Blender or Maya anymore (professionally I used POVray, TruSpace, LightWave and 3DS Max - among others), and it doesn't interest me as a building medium in Second Life. Mesh is fine, but it's nothing special. It's not good at - or suited for - every possibility, and that's why we have other technologies (like sculpt! Particles! Prims!). Mesh is just one tool, in a toolbox of other equally-useful tools. Single-mindedness kills nuance, and is the death of creativity.
  2. Nope, but I'm not surprised a newcomer thinks the way you do. I'm a scripter who modifies about 80-100% of the stuff that I buy, either to change the way it looks or the way it works. I never use anything 'off the shelf'. There used to be more folks like me, but I'd expect we're not so common now. It's a similar story to what others will tell you - creation is a common good in Second Life. For scripting and modifying, prims are way more convenient since they're addressable and have full control via llSetLinkPrimitiveParams. Alpha layers on system clothes work far smoother than show/hide HUDs. You only need one copy of an attachment if it's made of prims/sculpts, but everything in mesh comes in at least five sizes is invariably all jumbled up and poorly named. If a mesh item doesn't fit it ends up in the trash (there are some exceptions, but only a couple). If a sculpt/prim/system clothing item doesn't fit it can be hacked apart, remodelled, unlinked and relinked, colour-changed, all without needing support (or lag-inducing gimmicks) from the creator. I use mesh for some items of clothing (usually lower half stuff), but that's about it. I recently got mesh hair, and it's okay -largely apathetic, but I acknowledge that it's the future. I modified it, of course - I found one that I could chop apart, recolour and reposition so that it would work with hats. The final view can be seen in my pic, here. I don't use mesh in my building/construction except for limited use purpose-built stuff, and am not looking to use more of it. It's too slow to make it functional, compared alongside prims. Also requires significant work to remodel/reupload, just for a small change of heart. All of the above is my personal opinion. YMMV.
  3. You can safely uninstall QuickTime standalone and - if you feel it necessary - the QuickTime plugin for SL. The only side-effect is a loss of compatibility for QT-encoded streaming media. I've included instructions in a recent thread, related to this security advisory. SLF: QuickTime for Windows - Depreciated with Security Risk
  4. HTTP status 499 is used in SL to mark errors in simulators processing web-commands either due to load or error. It's... probably your viewer trying to get the region to do something that it doesn't want to do (like initiate magic box stuff, or the inventory > marketplace linkages). I wouldn't know where the error is originating (viewer or simulator). Entirely a wild guess based on the status code, since I don't use Firestorm or Marketplace and have no functional knowledge of either. I'm just aware that it's early in the morning by SLT, might be a bit before you get a more informed response.
  5. Outfits - and hair - don't change depending on the computer you're logging in through. There's four or five types of hair, though these are distillable into 2 core types:- 'System' hair - you can only wear one of these at a time Prim/Flexi/Sculpt/Mesh hair - you can stack these using Add in your inventory. If you're using Library items (such as default avatars), you might find it useful in future to copy the Library folder into your local inventory. This will preserve it, and any changes you make to it.
  6. https://my.secondlife.com should do for what it sounds like you're after. Especially with the Trending tab. We don't really want to see your photos here, though, this is a forum. Post them to my.secondlife.com or your own social media account or something, yeah? That way they end up where everyone else posts theirs, and can be appreciated as part of the same pool.
  7. Texture corruption can happen, but it's unlikely to be a permanent server-side issue. It's not possible to guess why this happened for you, as you don't include any useful information about the texture or your connection. Try clearing your cache. It's possible the corruption has occured there, and not on the server. Where it does happen on the server, it's almost always caused by a poor/intermittent connection to SL during upload, which sounds plausible (but unverifiable) in your account.

Supersatan3 wrote: They accused me of poaching the prospective auctionees The owner says that I hit up on his alt Does this mean said auction house was attempting to auction off alts of the owner? Sounds desperate. *prepares popcorn* You're better off knowing this and spending your time elsewhere. Probably saved yourself wasting future Linden Dollars buying timeslots with purpose-rolled stockroom alts instead of genuine people with interests and personalities worth placing bids on.
  9. Yeah drawing money out to a credit card doesn't work. Because it's credit. If you don't want Skrill and only have a credit card, then yes, PayPal is the answer. It's not the only option, but it's your only option, given your proviso's.
  10. Norton will allow you to redownload the application at a later date, provided your licence is still valid. Your licence will continue to tick down but it won't cost you more money to reinstall the application at a later date (say, in a week, once this is resolved). You should be able to do this at: https://manage.norton.com/Manage

  13. Ahaha, stumped. Of course you are, without a body. Puns. Anyway: Your mesh body probably isn't loading for some reason, it could be a connection or asset issue. Your post contains no useful information to help further. Good luck!
  14. I'm not directly familiar, although I use Windows Server regularly. There's no way to prevent SL using the UDP protocol and it is required, so if the proxy solution for TMG won't support UDP (as you claim) then I think you're out of luck. My understanding is that you require a SOCKS-friendly proxy to support UDP. I do also notice that TMG is end of life, stuck on extended support only. Maybe it's time to look for a new security solution? Some useful sources of information:- SL KB - Using Second Life with a Firewall SL F - HTTP Proxy for Second Life Wiki - Microsoft TMG
  15. Firstly, we're just residents and can't help you take action against a vendor. Secondly, you're not allowed to name names on this service. Please remove those names from your post. Thirdly, I don't think selling things that don't work is actionable, and you have no obligation to support from vendors. Second Life has always been Buyer Beware.
  16. Think the OP is mostly communicating using only vowels right now.
  17. lol what. Maybe you don't understand the purpose of the Answers feature here, or you don't understand how consent works. Perhaps both! But this isn't a question. I see you're very new, so you've been awfully industrious already. Have fun, I guess!
  18. Daryl Carter wrote: Does that mean something was wrong with the llHttRequest and nothing was sent to the intended destination? That is the problem is with the lsl script generating the llHttpRequest and not one of the php scripts on the web server? The implication is that the error is with the scripts on the server (often it's a syntax or compilation error), but it's not definitive from the status code. My typical debugging strategy here is to cut-out chunks of code at a time and see what works and what doesn't. If you get a status that isn't 500, then something you've cut-out is probably the culprit. It need only be one thing that's not working. In ASP.NET (for example, because I'm not so fluent in php these days), failing to finish an if statement correctly is enough to cause 500 errors.
  19. We're not well suited to telling you if your behaviour is illegal within your (or any other) jurisdiction. You should take responsibility to learn your local laws for yourself - some countries DO prohibit gambling even under skill gaming and you may expose yourself to risk if you don't complete special provisions (e.g. paying tax or... other stuff - again, we have no idea). That said, there's no issue as far as Second Life itself is concerned. You can extract any L$ in your account, provided it doesn't run afoul of LL's money laundering rules.
  20. No familiarity with 'SKDB'. If it's written in PHP then... you'll be able to debug in PHP once you fix the 500 and score 200 status. HTTP status 500 is a server-level error, the output page is malformed and could not be served.
  21. I'm not sure how you expect us to help you with your faulty memory. Uh, write... things down... more... often? Try the Knowledge Base to get official help, but it seems support will definitely ask you for information about your account. Which you should try to remember or recover.
  22. bigmoe Whitfield wrote: that means users are clicking links they think are legit and giving the bad guys their informations Well, sure, that's one way. Phishing has increased in recent years, as it turns out that there's a reasonably easy profit to be made here, for a combination of reasons that I'm hesitant to post. (Users familiar with the reclamation process will probably see why SL accounts are low risk, high reward) The easy/short answer for services in wind-down is that as support, moderation and development incentive wanes and staff get assigned to other platforms/projects, we're left with our posteriors facing the breeze - scams get harder to remove, the priority of resolving abuse issues gets lowered (common to hear reports of this happening already in users' perception). As time goes on, more users suffer losses than usual, and trust in the platform erodes. The other way that accounts get stolen is through exploited trust via 'friends', and two-factor would prevent this almost entirely. Passwords can be swapped, and this seems low-risk to some (esp. new users, and those in relationships with 'trust'/'expectation' of openness) and that ALWAYS backfires, causing frustration at a minimum and financial losses and abandoned accounts beyond this. After telling new users NOT to give out passwords for over a decade, at some point we have to try a new tack. It's easy (and most common) to blame the user in both scenarios but at some point, regardless of whose 'fault' it is, LL could more than use some bonus trust being generated AND acknowledge that the learning curve/mentoring that many new users encounter (to their benefit mostly, but abuse is not supremely uncommon) puts new and vulnerable users at risk. Two-factor protects LL's new userbase, and defends its old one from being exploited during the wind-down - a very real possibility. We're well-past the point where this becomes win-win. Think Alwin's barking up the wrong tree on this (phishing under two-factor would score the attacker some encrypted info that would expire very quickly, and not a useful password - no lasting vulnerability to the phished users account), and would happily contribute toward making this a reality. Have wanted two-factor here for a long time.
  23. Lindal's got a point, but if you're not on Firestorm then this can happen if you have your viewer set to Select Only My Objects in Build > Options. What happens is that since what you're inspecting belongs to someone else, it automatically 'drops' the inspection and all you get is a blank window. Check this setting in your Build menu to resolve.
  24. Probably not! There's routine maintenance going on today, and they do usually advise you NOT to make purchases or rez no-copy items during this time. https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Status-Grid/Rolling-Maintenance-Main-Channel/ba-p/3026934 But most often what you find is that the region comes back up (in 15-20 minutes) and you can go back to your apartment.
  25. Today is maintenance, same as most other Tuesdays. https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Status-Grid/Rolling-Maintenance-Main-Channel/ba-p/3026934 Try to login to a different region, or wait a bit.
