  1. There are no contact telephone numbers to resolve this issue, it's all completed via the web. Follow the instructions already provided in the Wiki:- http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Account_Security
  2. As a rule, bigger is better for use in SL. The i7 will easily give you the most bang for your buck. It's not possible to say what kind of experience you'll have in SL from these options since SL performance is based on many many factors not listed here (mostly related to your connection, but also cooling capability). They should all run SL with some ability, with performance from low-to-high going downward. I'd be tempted by Option 2 maybe, if I didn't really want an i7 - I've had a lot of good success with SSD performance as a cache disk in SL. Except I do run an i7, so Option 4. Worth noting also that the System Requirements page hasn't been updated in some time (which is why it uses 4-digit Nvidia codes, the previous series). I personally wouldn't vouch for its accuracy. I'm unaware of a more recent resource to point you at.
  3. I know *my* Second Life account has a Security Question / Security Answer associated with it. Perhaps "passphrase" is modern lingo for this Security Answer, since the CSRs working the helpdesk probably don't know SL-specific terminology. You'll have to file a ticket and explain that you've forgotten your passphrase. It's possible that they'll have an alternate strategy for you to recover your account (e.g. Linden Dollar balance, recently added friends are both things I've heard CSR's ask)
  4. There's more maintenance, this one's unexpected. https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Status-Grid/Utility-Server-Scheduled-Maintenance-17-June-2016/ba-p/3040782 Once it's clear, you'll be able to log back in.
  5. Cool your jets. This is unexpected maintenance, but it's being reported in the usual way:- https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Status-Grid/Utility-Server-Scheduled-Maintenance-17-June-2016/ba-p/3040782 If you're affected, you will:- Not be able to log in until maintenance is complete. Not be able to send messages or group chat if you're in a group that's affected.
  6. We don't provide support for creators here. You'll have to deal with Kayliwulf directly to figure this one out. You may need to be patient. Note: You're not entitled to a refund.
  7. Theresa Tennyson wrote: "the most magical of non-magical animals." If we consider Second Life to be a game I'd call it "the most non-gamelike of games", and if it is seen as a part of some other non-game application category I'd call it "the most gamelike of [whatever.]" From what I've heard, it used to be quite a bit more "game-like" and gradually evolved in another direction, but there's still enough left-over conventions (the avatar that always has to be there, the single point of entry, the single overall environment that all users are part of, etc.) that I don't see how it can be authoritatively described as Not A Game. Aw man, I can't even come back with a playful argument against this. Awkward but refusing to say no to whatever her brain says yes to - Tina is my spirit animal. This is some solid reasoning, I love it. I love everything about it. By every standard of being a game, I think SL does poorly. But it clearly does well enough to be confusing, and as someone who mostly enjoys inhabiting the grey between the solid colours, I'm entirely okay with this. Thanks for the carefully constructed argument.
  8. Haha, yeah. I like play too, and I've no issue with "play" in my SL. I'm not bothered by folks mis-categorising (IMO) SL as a game because:- Consumers are good people to have around. They're still here logged into it. I checked, and it doesn't hurt anyone or kill any fairies. At least proves SL must still be fun! (if not fast, easy) Usually means I can score higher than they do. It'll still happen whether or not there's any resolution on the issue. I just think it's interesting to see how the categorisation is goin' in peoples' brainmeats. Afraid I don't have any books to link to. I did like Too Much Schooling, Too Little Education (which I liked) and Sex in Education: Or, A Fair Chance for Girls (which I hated). But both deal with learning methods more than play methods. More of a learner than a player, I guess.
  9. Theresa Tennyson wrote: The word "play" is often used for running simulations. Can accept this, thanks. Snipped some more for brevity, but I get your drift. I did notice my Google stats dropped out of your post (my fault, am terrible for edits). A bit more to add, then:- For Second Life it was 30K FOR, 26K AGAINST usage of "play" vs "use". For GTA 5 (an obvious game) it's 397K FOR, 23K AGAINST usage of "play" vs "use". For ARMA 2 (a simulator/game) it's 60K FOR, 3K AGAINST usage of "play" vs "use". For Microsoft Train Simulator (a simulator with optional game elements) it's 159K FOR, 4K AGAINST usage of "play" vs "use". Second Life is clearly more ambiguous than any of the others. Is there a way to explain this? Presumably, other than polarisation of terms. Can agree that some consider it as a game, but I'm afraid technical knowledge still very much could be a deciding factor in verb usage. It would be interesting if any other service (simulator or not) showed similar results, but even the most simulator-y game I can think of seems to slide much further into "play" territory than SL does.
  10. Nalytha wrote: I actually think that the verb play has, over time, become associated with various media consumption. Second Life is media. Perhaps, though that strikes me as a sad way to look at it. To me, Second Life is interactive and collaborative and not consumptive - most media (even modern media, sadly) is being presented to an audience, as is. That's probably a semantic game for another day however. So I'll rephrase, do you play Netflix or do you play TV? Perhaps you play Amazon Prime. No, sorry, still not adequate. People select verbs based on a range of factors, and the only decision-making that seems to make sense when combining "play" and "Second Life" is a low level of understanding and/or participation (which may be the 'average', but average is not 'good' nor 'accurate') P.S.:- Nalytha wrote: Is it soda or pop? It's neither, but instead "fizzy". I'm not Ameriquaine (who seem to prefer these two options), but instead a Londoner transplanted into the cold hard Norf.
  11. Nalytha wrote: Even if it's not a game, exactly what is wrong with the word play? It's been pointed out that that word is very versatile. I play music. I play movies. I play Second Life. But do you play Facebook? Play Google, or eBay? Can you play email, or play WhatsApp? What is it about Second Life that makes you think that you play it? The only other online services that people 'play' are (looking at Google results) gambling, sports or gaming related. Seems likely that 'play' is associated therefore with online gaming services. Google itself is split on the language choice (shocking, right?) - 30K results for "play Second Life", 26K for "use Second Life". Think verb usage is important, and probably part of what leads to the cloudiness in making this determination. Non-technical types often make this mistake and, because they aren't corrected on the terminology, the misinformation spreads. Has always been the double-edged sword in SL - technical knowledge is low across the userbase as a whole. (Not that I think this misinformation really matters. People have been getting it wrong for a long time, and it hasn't mattered.)

    help

"Fast" isn't a useful attribute with which to describe a viewer. It will differ too heavily, based on a hundred-and-fifty different variables. If you notice performance differences between viewers, use the "fastest" for your particular system. So try for yourself.
  14. Jacklyn Zarco wrote: Can we ever have total privacy at times in SL? Maybe, but probably not. Only vaguely possible by rolling an alternate account - adding no friends, telling no-one about it and taking active precautions against revealing yourself to alt-detection systems. One mistake and you'll probably have to roll another, however. Jacklyn Zarco wrote: I am curious if anyone can tell me how this person knew I did this? Few oracles, most notably IMs which don't respond with Offline messages. Or last logged in dates. Or LSL scripts testing AGENT_ONLINE. Second Life was not designed with privacy in mind. My strategy (as an award-winning introvert) is communication - "I am busy/not interested. We'll catch up soon but for now, go away." Those who don't manage to live up to this simple rule get removed from my list. I find this works as a natural filter - anyone who deals in drama is quickly removed, giving me even higher odds of successful 'alone'-time. Good luck.
  15. It is what it is. You could look at resolving Billing Issues, and Payment Methods by country. A better place to have put this post would've been in the Answers forum.
  16. oCHANTYo wrote: AM i doing something wrong? Yes. I mean, it's not possible to guess what you're doing wrong since all you say is "when I used the scripts ...". It's possible that you're confused - Second Life scripts don't have universal operation, they won't ALWAYS "lock" your door, because that's not a thing. Scripts run through actions that APPEAR to lock a door if the door is constructed in the same way the script expects them to be constructed. They'll rotate (this varies, sometimes they slide) 90 degrees (this number varies) on an axis (the axis varies) which appears to make a door look closed. With all that opportunity to vary, it's clear lock scripts are not universal. It sounds like the doors you're using are not suited for the scripts you're trying to drop into them. My advice is to hire a scripter or builder to help figure it out.
  17. You should read replies to your many previous posts on this same issue. You recieved a helpful answer here, from Rolig Loon: https://community.secondlife.com/t5/Abuse-and-Griefing/why-i-cant-used-my-paypale-account-to-buy-any-thing-from-sl/qaq-p/3038131
  18. Land/tier payments (and premium membership) are made in USD, monies are returned to your account from sales as L$. These balances do not (and cannot) interchange automatically. This assumes you're paying tier to LL. If an established executor is able to access your USD/L$ balance and keep your account in good-standing then... maybe this is possible manually, on a monthly or other basis.
  19. Simulator backups do exist, but they don't span months. Any change from months ago is fixed, by now. Is your issue anything to do with this thread? I'm not familiar with social islands, but I used the forum search. I don't know that anyone is likely to address this issue, but certainly no-one from Linden Lab will see this request here. Second Life is not a democracy, LL's decisions are their own.
  20. Difficult to parse your text, sorry. Feel free to try again. Maybe relevent info is here? http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Required_Tax_Documentation_FAQ I'm not familiar with US tax blahblah, but 1099 seems like a document LL do supply to some residents. Other than that, make sure everyone you're dealing with is a legitimate member of the Linden Lab team.
  21. Err, credit cards only supply credit (hence the name). They can't be used to hold a balance, you can't cash out to them. Try another method to cash out to.
  22. Awesome! Thanks for your feedback, and glad you had success. Time to go back to enjoying your Second Life!
  23. That's a fun one. My best bet would be to download a Third Party Viewer that didn't render graphics - a text-based viewer. I've used Radegast in the past with great success, but you might prefer one made for a mobile device. Once logged into a text-based viewer, you should be able to detach an object without being able to see it. If you didn't like this option, you could also try disabling Avatar and Volume display items using Ctrl+Shift+Alt+4 and Ctrl+Shift+Alt+9 immediately as you log in, and then try detaching the item, or performing an Character Test (Develop > Avatar > Character Tests > Test Male/Test Female) to remove items as quickly as possible. If none of these options are suitable, you'll have to create a Support Case and wait for someone from Linden Lab to resolve this for you - this is the slowest option.

  25. Candy Lisle wrote: Does anyone know based entirely on comparing the processors and graphic cards will I notice a difference? Both graphics cards are carefully calibrated to render objects in a photon-friendly format (typically across a backlit surface called a 'monitor'), which will be recieved by your photosensitive ocular sensory organs, located frontwise of your cranium. Use these to find out.
