  1. Sorry, but these 'skirts' with that awful prim insert between the legs simply suck, as that prim insert almost never really matches the color of the 'skirt' and does not move the way the rest of the 'skirt' moves. That prim insert is just an 'auxilliary' soluion to work around the weaknesses of the 'system' clothes that are worn directly as texture on the avatar and imho this workaround has become obsolete with the introduction of mesh skirts. Mesh skirts look much cooler, move with your avatar's skeleton and give an overall more 'realistic' look than the obsolete old school texture skirts with that prim insert, and yes, you can wear them without alpha layer underneath if you find/make the right size Nobody I know uses system skirts with prim insert anymore, they look cheap and noobish nowadays J.

  3. I'm so glad that I don't have to install my viewers ;-) Jeannie
  4. Update: There's a stable release version of Singularity , version 1.8.0 (4114) available now. I have been using the latest Singularity alphas and also the 1.8.0. release version for a while now, they work very well for me so far on my exotic system ;-) . Some sources report that ssb may be coming to selected regions on the main grid within two weeks from now on, so there's still some time left to move to a ssb compatible viewer. J.
  5. Yes, that looks good and should run Sl quite well.... Cheers from Europe Jeannie
  6. Wanna run SL on Linux? Go for something with an nVidia Graphics card, and use the non-free nVidia proprietary graphics drivers. Intel is too low perf amd lacks of useable 3d capable Linux drivers and AMD/ATI drivers and Linux are natural enemies anyway. Android mobile toy devices can give you no real immersive 3d sl experience, as Android devices are meant as communication tools ( phone, IM, chat) and web content consumption machines and always lack usable 3d capable graphics card. There are Linux distros out there that offer proprietary graphics drivers out of the box, Sabayon Linux (Gentoo Based) or Manjaro Linux (Arch based) are examples of such distros. J.
  7. None of these mentioned computers will allow you to run SL in high/ultra graphics, as they all come with office graphcs cards. Whenever I buy a new computer, I rather focus on getting high end hardware so I don't have to upgrade hardware again after a year. My proposal: Go to a small computer store in or close to your hometown, ask them to set up a machine with at least a nVidia GTX 650 TI or something higher, a nice cpu ( i5 or i7, or maybe an AMD FX 8150/8350), Windows 7 64 bit instead of Win 8 which is much less usable and approx 50% more expensive than Win 7), no office solution ( there are free office solutions available, no need to burn money on MS Office or, burn more money on renting Office 365 . If you already own a Win 7 License, you can even buy without operating system/office solution and put your existing OS on it, save even more money and get an even more powerful Graphics card (nVidia 670/680, avoid AMD/ATI cards). (Ever considered to switch to Linux?) Buying at a local smaller shop usually has got the advantage of getting friendly personal service in your neighborhood instead of having to deal with bored supporters in anonymous call centers of large distributors in case there's a problem, plus: You don't have to put your machine into a box and have it shipped to that large distributor's anonymous service center and wait weeks to get it back without really knowing what's going on 'there'. When it comes to computer brands: A computer is no car, it's irrelevant who 'made' it , all that counts is inside the shiny HP, Acer or whatever labelled case...) J.
  8. Singularity alpha has got ssb code too. Singularity alpha download J.
  9. LL's System Requirements listed here Outdated LL system requirements are as outdated as can be, the recommended nVidia 9800/ 295 series graphics cards were top of the line products about 4-5 years ago, so that list is pretty useless. J.
  10. You're quoting Linden comments that are almost 4 years old and LL V1.2 jiras. So there has been no development in 'broken' video driversGPUs in general ever since? Seems adding shiny new stuff is more important than keeping up with technical progress.... By the way: My GTX Titan offers 6 GB of VRam, I am sure using more than 8.3% of my GPU's VRam will not slow down things..... J.
  11. There are TPVs, who give you the possibility to show the received items folder as simple invenoty folder and not in that 'Hey, idiot, look, look here, here, yes here are your received items' LL style. J.
  12. More threads? More than 512 mb of VRam, SLI/Crossfire support? All these are viewer features, so what use is your link to SL server articles? None of these things are supported by any viewer for SL. Do you use some secret viewer that nobody knows of? J.
  13. So, you're trying to run SL on a so called professional mac with 256 mB of shared graphics memory, using a much much too high bandwidth with a viewer that is not even officially supported anymore? Get a computer with a real graphics card and don't try to run it on an on-board graphics with shared memory, or turn down your graphics settings to minimum. The recommended bandwidthh is 500 mBit/S for wifi and 1000-1500 for wired connections. Your sim ping times are way too high, so your connection also seems to be quite bad.... I am wondering how you managed to log in with a V2 series viewer at all. J.
  14. A nVidia gt 610 is an entry level office graphics card, a radeon 7870 (even if it's AMD/ATI) a high end card. Something seems to be seriously wrong with your system when you get only 7 fps with that card. Are you using the proper driver for it? Even if I am no fan of AMD graphics, changing a 7870 for a GTX 610 is like changing from a BMW to a Yugo and it is definitively no 'upgrade'. The nVidia equivalent to a 7970 would be a 660 TI or a 670 J. P.S. I doubt that a nVidia 610 is capable of 70 fps in ultra graphics.
  15. Earlier versions of Firestorm will be obsolete soon with server side baking..... J.
  16. That screenshot is neither the ati pink screen problem nor the pink logout screen problem. J.
  17. So, what graphics driver are you using? Maybe you need to upgrade/reinstall your graphics driver. Make sure to use a driver directly from nVidia and not the mostly outdated drivers Windows offers. A 560 ti should be able to run SL under high or maybe even ultra graphics and not only with basic shaders turned off. J.
  18. Sorry to disappoint you now, but that on board graphics card with shared memory is a rather suboptimal solution to run SL in anything higher but low graphics. This machine is rather suited for office use and not for sl, which requires a powerful graphics card. Besides this, AMD graphics card are welll konown for having poor drivers that often have problems with openGL, the graphics 'language' used by SL. I would not have bought that laptop for using it for anything else but office use and simple web content consuming, if at all. I'd reutrn it immediatey and try to get something that works in SL without annoyances. A budget of 650 US$ should get you something more powerful, maybe even a refurbished high end laptop. By the way, local computer dealers offer usually a much more convenient and fast way of getting support than qvc. J.
  19. This is an old server bug, which occurs if a friend does not have 'See my online status' permission, they will now see "User is not online .." message following IM or inventory offer. This has recently been fixed in magnum regions, see these release notes: Release Notes for Server 13.03.01.271119 Seems that bug is still there o main channel regions. Server side baking cannot cause this, as ssb is not active on the main grid yet. So toggling the 'See my online status' permission might help, otherwise the only thing that is recommended is patience. J.

Hoping they do not depreciate that version like they did with 1-235 so older machines can still log on using the V2 SL Viewer. That "Non SSE2 supported Error" simply indicates that your CPU is too old to run the current viewers, as these viewers tequire teh use of a SSE2 capable main processore. With the introduction of Server Side Baking ( which should come rather soon), you won't be able to use your old viewers anymore. SSE2 is a standard that was introduced first in 2001 so I fear it's rime to upgrade your Hardware. J
  22. Go for nVidia, nVidia works much better with OpenGL ( Second Life's graphics "language") than any AMD/ATI card. AMD/ATI also quite often suffer from poorly designed drivers which cause strange problems like showing the whole world in pink or drivers that suddenly stop communicating with the operating system (and many more) under Open GL. The silly argument brought up here 'AMD is cheaper' is not really valid, especially in that high end price segment because usuallyou buy a lot of problems with SL from the money you save when buyng a AMD card. The AMD 7970 consumes up to 30% more electrical power than the 680 GTX, so you might have to upgrade your power supply too, which makes the 'AMD is cheaper' argument invalid. On the other hand: the 680 GTX uses less electrical power than your 295 GTX, so if your current power supply could handle the GTX 295, so you can be sure that there is no need for a new power supply unit in your system. If you go for a 680 GTX or a 690 GTX is up to you, when it comes to running SecondLife a dual gpu card like a 690 GTX won't bring any noticeable difference, as SL cannot handle dual gpu cards. J.

This is a V2 problem.. I can play all games I tested and everything else works just fine so this is more a V2 vs driver problem then just the driver. or nothing else would work either. First of all: V2 is dead and buried Second thing: Better get a new computer soon, V1 viewers will very soon become obsolete, when LL introduces Server Side BAking. Hope you did not fall into that gaming laptop trap that was invented by some marketing guys. J.
  24. My Mint 14 MATE 64 Bit system runs all 32 and 64 bit viewers I have tried quite well. Might be a problem with the ATI craphics card on your side. J.
