  1. That GPU might give you want you want on low to mid graphics settings, don't expect it to give you 20+ FPS on high or ultra in crowded areas. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-750M.90245.0.html Why do people always want craptops laptops? They are less performant, more expensive and harder to maintain than a desktop machine. J.
  2. Try to doubleclick secondlife.sh and select run Linux is not Windows, no need to install.... J.
  3. Israfil78 wrote: I'd just download Singularity honestly so far out of Firestorm Pheonix and SL Viewer it tops them all. And the set up is similar to the pheonix viewer but lighter on your system and includes mesh uploads and a merchant outbox Where did you get that 'but lighter' information from? Got a link to confirm this? You're aware of the fact that Singularity uses V3 technology, are you? J.
  4. We as inferior mortals cannot read LL jiras anymore.... J.
  5. Stuff ( prims, mesh, textures, avatars) loads really really bad with the latest interrest list changes on main channel sims. It takes between 5 and 10 minutes until I can see everything, using a dd of 128 here, triend with various viewers. Can we get this fixed please? Each interrest list 'improvement' seems to make it worse. Jeannie
  6. Max Graphics with max vieweing distance can mean that you will have to load incredible amounts of data in a extremely short time over and over again, when moving. The bottleneck in this case seems to be the internet connection, in detail the throttled bandwidth by the server, in combination with the new ' let's load things on a random base cause the server decides now which texture to deliver in which order' interrest list 'improvements' introduced by LL some time ago. You can put in a 10000 US$ GPU and will still not get the results you expect. Sl is not a 'game' that preloads everything from your HDD like installed Windows games, it loads all stuff over and over again by streaming it from the severs. Data that is not yet there to be processed cannot be processed neither by a nVidia 680 GTX nor by a 780 GTX nor by a Titan nor by a 10000 US$ Quadro FX 4600 SDI. J.
  7. Get a nVidia GTX 550 TI/650 TI/660 , instead of a relabeled ancient AMD HD 5770. AMD/ATI can handle window's proprietary graphics language directx quite well if the current AMD driver works ( which happens with every 3rd or 4th edition of teh drivers) , but AND/ATI is not the best choice for SL and the graphics language it uses ( openGL). AMD Graphics: Save 10 US$ and get a lot of driver problems for free. J
  8. cardude44 wrote: So I'm new to SL, and every time I try to launch the viewer, it crashes within seconds with mention of an OpenGL error. I've done some research, and it seems that this is not related to my hardware but rather an issue with the viewer. I've updated my NVidia drivers from 314 to 320.18 and the problem persists. My specs: ASUS G51JX-A1 Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit NVidia GeForce GTS 360M 6 GB RAM Intel i7 Q 720 quad core 500 GB HDD Any ideas on what I can do to resolve this issue? Are you sure your nVidia Card is running? Your Machine has got a second, on-board graphics card too, you might have to deactivate that on board graphics and activate the nVidia graphics in your Bios Settings. Look up your user's manual for information on this. J.
  9. Caerolle Llewellyn wrote: Wow, funny how things just work on some systems and won't on others. I have added every single package mentioned in this thread and every other linux thread I can find wrt running 32-bit programs in 64-bit install, and still have the same error message listed earlier in this thread. I really really hate to go back to 32-bit distro to get this one app to run. So just use a 64 bit viever, There are Kokua and Singularity available in 64 bit,no need to fiddle around with 32 bit viewers, additional libs and missing functionality anymore. J.
  10. No need to install viewers under Ubuntu and Linux. J.
  11. My awerage viewer fps fluctuates between 70 and 120, depending on the sim and the number of avatars there. My tech specs: AMD FX8350 octacore, 32 GB of RAM, nVidia GTX Titan, OS: Arch Linux 64 bit, Viewer: Singularity 1.8.0.4423 J.
  12. So,,what exactly are you trying to do? Opening a slurl? Running a viewer for second life? What Ubuntu are you using? (version, architecture)? Have you been using Ubuntu or Linux before? J.
  13. Here you go, for free, 58 different heights: Boot masks on MP J.

  15. So do the follwing: Download the packed viewer of your choice. Go to your download folder, doubleclick the packed archive Unpack it to a folder of your choice Go to that folder Open the viewer folder Doubleclick the 'viewername' shell script Run the viewer Read this for deatilled infos: Linux Viewer Second Life Wiki J.
  16. Do you get similar errors when using 3rd party viewers Where did you extract the downloaded viewer archive to? Did you run the unnecessary 'installer'? J.
  17. The feed is a cheap try to create an 'social network' parallelly to SL to attract the 'Generation Facebook'. I never use it, I don't care what's going on there and I don't care what other people post there, I actually never ever even look at web profiles a all. J.
  18. If SL would be 'converted' into a 'combat' platform, I'd leave immediately. J.
  19. If you know it's a software issue, I'd propose that you grab the source code of your favorite viewer and mod it according to your needs. J.

Der Hinweis von LL auf im Text befindliche verbotene Umlaute, die imHinweis trotz Verbot von Umlauten benutzt werden ist so lacherlich.....
  21. OzymandiasJLlewellyn wrote: My specs are not necessary. Anyone asking for them is just wasting my time because they don't have the answers to the question I seek or know anything about how games, rendering, applications or programming. They're going to tell me to roll back my drivers or something else stupid that I don't care about because I'm not looking to avoid crashes, I'm looking to stop the engine from disregarding my video card upon restart. My hunch is that it has something to do with the game automatically trying to use "debug" settings because it thinks that the game has crashed because of startup parameters or some such thing. With your stubborn refusal to tell us your specs, I can only try to fish in troubled waters. Sounds like an issue with nVidia Optimus. You can google (or use whatever conspiraive search engine you prefer) for second life and Optimus to find some possible solutions just in case you use Optimus, if not, go and try to figure it out yourself, cause with your given non-information it's not possibleto help you any further J.
  22. I have attached lights turned off in my viewer, because many many people, especially those with low graphics settings wear so called facelights that shine like a supernova. What might look 'good' on low graphics settings usually looks horribly overlighted in higher settings. Jeannie

Jenni Darkwatch wrote: Send a message through https://my.secondlife.com/jean.horten And don't change operating systems just because someone tells you to ;p I never look at the web profiles, so trying to contact me there is useless. And trying OSsses can be fun, sometimes you discover really interresting systems this way. Jeannie
  24. So, sent you a private mesage here, hope that solves your problem, Orca. Regarding Cinnamon, I am not sure if it will already work with the Gnome 3.8 stuff which by the way also causes problems with MATE and also with XFCE. Jeannie P.S. Gnome devs are focussed on Gnome only, if their stuff breaks other DEs which rely on GTK or Gnome libs, thes don't care at all, due to their moronic : "Thou shall not use anything but our GnomeS hell in our brand identity standard layout" attitude.
  25. So, you recommend to buy Windows 8 for much more money than Windows 7 and to use additional software to make it look like Windows 7 again? What's the practical reason for this? J.
