  2. You have noticed the Audio Driver Version: (none) entry? You might find this article useful: http://www.thelinuxrain.com/articles/installing-firestorm-second-life-viewer-for-linux There's a sound troubleshooting section at the end. J.

Look on the specs page under HELP on this site to see what is required or Google it with the term "Second Life" to see if there are any forums or comments anywhere about trouble. I don't recall that particular one. "Laptops of any sort often aren't compatible with SL at all -- full stop" That*s utter nonsense, you don't have the slightest idea what you are talking about. I have been using SL with an Intel i7 2nd gen laptop equipped with a non optimus Nvidia GTX 770m for several years without problems with very acceptable 30-50 fps. J.
  4. Cool VL, worst supported viewer of them all . Singularity uses the old style V1 UI too and has much more features than Cool. J.

My current PC parts are: * AMD 4100 Quad-Core processor *Asus m5a78l-m plus Motherboard *8 Gigs of Corsair ram ddr3 (4x2) * Strix gtx 970 graphics card *650w Power supply * Windows 10 64 Bit OS I was going to upgrade all my parts besides the gtx 970 graphics card and 650w power supply to: *Intel core i5 6600k processor *gigabyte GA-Z170MX-GAMING M5 motherboard *Corsair Vengeance DDR4 16GB (8x2) sticks of ram Now my question is, should that make second life run faster / render quicker/ less lag? Also can I run second life between high and ultra settings no problem? If not, what should I add / change in my new pc build so that I can run on highest settings? Wasted money. You won't have a noteworthy performance gain in SL. J.

It's an ooold Second Life 1.0 thing and yeah, Imprudence is basically Second Life 1.0 with all of the features and lack of features it had since it is impossible to log in with ACTUAL Second Life 1.0 Anyway, Whirly, thanks a TON for the tip! I'll see if I can get my Avatar to rez at all and let you know but yeah it doesn't support a LOT of things. The latest Kokua Viewer 4.0.1.37934 released on March 1st 2016 is based on LL V4 code and no "oooold 1.0 thing". J.
  8. The problem is that you don't have a graphics card at all, just an underpowered on-board graphics chip which was not made for 3d gaming. As you are using a MAC mini there is nothing you can do to get a better graphics chip for your machine, so either live with the restrictions of your on board graphics or get a computer which suits the demands of running a graphics intense 3d application like second life better than your actual MAC. LL's hardware recommendations are completey out of date by the way, and there is much more than just the gpu's memory which makes a gpu or an on-board graphics chip suitable for running a viewer. J.
  9. I had forced driver replacement problems on 6 win 10 systems. I downgraded 4 of them to win7, one to win8 , driver problems solved, friends/partents happy again. Just because something is shiny, new , " free" and from Microsoft it does not mean it is "good". hardware-maker-support-reps-diss-windows-10-and-recommend-to-downgrade J.
  10. Welcome to the wonderful world of the spyware botnet os windows 10 and it's broken "universal" graphics drivers . My advice: Downgrade to win 7 J.
  11. When buying a Nvidia GPU, make sure not to buy one with a reference design single fan cooler, these coolers tend to sound like a vacuum cleaner under load. J.
  12. Which are your hardware specs? If your machine crashes under Win 7 due to insufficient performance or a poor network connection, it will do the same under Win 10. J.
  13. Viewer 2 wird von LL seit Jahren geblockt. Dasselbe gilt fúr eine Menge alter Firestorm Versionen. J.

  15. The SL system requirements are incredibly outdated, they aren't very helpful J.

I am sure that using an SSD will solve all WIndows 10 graphics driver problems automagically. No, I wasn't suggesting that they shouldn't take your suggestion to heart. I personally run Windows 10 on desktops with no problems at all, but I have very common graphics cards -- and maybe just dumb luck. I only mentioned Android and iOS as part of the running joke in this thread about desktop envy, and the fact that the distinction between laptops and tablets is shrinking by day. Similarly, the SSD suggestion doesn't detract from Windows 10 considerations, but the thread seemed to be about more than just Windows 10 compatibility. You already got the point yourself: You're using it on a desktop machine, not on a hybrid graphics laptop device. The Nvdia support forums are full with people complaining about Win 10 not working with these hybrid gpu solutions where Win 7, 8 or 8.1 simply worked. A quick search about nvidia optimus windows 10 will bring up these comments quickly. J.
  17. Just buy a device that comes with a graphics card that's capable to handle SL, done. J.
  18. Qie Niangao wrote: "Desktop PC's are better." Really, it is kind of a shame that we can't get SL running passably on a tablet or some other ultra-portable, and leave the high-end experience to machines with enough space to dissipate the heat of a capable GPU. Maybe Sansar will be reasonably supported on Android and iOS, but with SL we're still stuck on old-timey platforms. Mostly I wanted to second the suggestion to consider SDD. Personally, I'd dump both the HDD and optical drive: given the physical environment laptops endure, HDs don't enjoy much of a reliability advantage over SDDs, and really, does anybody still use optical drives? I honestly can't remember the last time -- it's certainly been years. (But maybe if I didn't have one, suddenly I'd need one and curse the day I decided to go without. The "Big Yellow Taxi" effect.) Your problem that you try to run SL on an underpowered shiny giant sized pocket calculator. This simply will not work. I am sure that using an SSD will solve all WIndows 10 graphics driver problems automagically. J
  19. Looks like a nvidia/intel optimus hybrid graphics machine. Optimus gpu switching does not work correctly under Windows 10, I propose a downgrade to a working operating system like windows 7 or 8. J.
  20. Run the viewer in a terminal and post the error message here, preferably as link to pastebin or some similar website. J.
  21. At least 8 people among my family and friends have had massive issues with windows 10 replacing working drivers with microsofts "universal" drivers on every windows upgrade. They all (except 2 who moved to Linux completely) fixed this by downgrading their OS to windows 7 or 8, both of these are systems that don't take you out of control like win 10 does. J.

  23. jonhnnyroleplay wrote: LOL @ "buy Nvidia".....as of 11/24/15 AMD has rolled out its all new & improved Crimson Edition drivers that fix ALL known glitches. I know for a fact on a few builds I just completed (Windows 10 x64 & Linux x64 pcs) that the AMD Crimson Edition Windows 10 Home x64 drivers work smooth as glass on AMD R7 370, R9 380 & HD 7850 cards including SL. Also, the all new AMD Crimson Edition Linux x86_64 drivers are sweet now and work perfectly, including in SecondLife (AMD HD 7850, R7 370, R9 380.) Here is a rundown on what maybe causing your issues assuming it is not defective: 1- When switching from Nvidia to AMD or visa versa it is best to remove your motherboard battery for 10-15 minutes to clear the motherboard BIOS before installing the different brand card. You'll need to reset all motherboard's settings too: boot sequence, CPU fan speed, password(s), etc. 2- Did you completely remove the Nvidia drivers inclluding the Nvidia file from your Drive:C before installing the AMD card? 3- Did you turn off your antivirus protection before installing the AMD drivers? ALL common install mistakes made by Nvidia and AMD fanboys/girls. "Buy Nvidia...buy Nvidia"...days are gone ...welcome to the world of decent AMD drivers!!!! **way around wonderful W/10 is either install/upgrade w/o being connected to the Internet and already have your Nvidia or AMD drivers burned off to a CD or DVD...install them immediately after installing/upgrading to W/10....then connect to Net for MS updates and Windows to auto activate** How much does AMD pay you? Or are you just a fanboi who can't afford a working nVidia GPU? MD driver have sucked, still suck and y looking at 9 year history of AMD's poor gpu drivers and slow progress in fixing them I predict this will not change. Regardingt Linux: Arch, the distro of my choice has removed the proprietary amd drivers fro their repos due to miserable performance, qaulity and massive issues years ago. J
