Phoenix have multiple clothing layers also ;-) No, Catwise, Phoenix has got multiple attachments, but unfortunately no multiple cloting layers, the latter are a privilege of V2 based viewers, this function has been buried deep in the V2 source code ansd within more than a year, noone has made it to backport multiple clothing layers into a V1.x based viewer. 2. What is so awesome about web profiles? The privacy violation? The missing information in them in comparison to in world profiles? The missing functionality ( you can't see if someone is online e.G.)? Or the huge scren space they use in world? Tell me why you think the web profiles are awesome. J.
  3. What about brining back profiles to where they belong? In World, not on the web, so your profile would have the same style as the skin of the viewer you use and you'd not have to edit the background..... J.
  4. Yay, using V1 to make settings that affect V2 but cannot be reverted in V2, great Idea. Seems to be the only solution so far but shows to me how borked the new profile system (and V2 in general) really is J.
  5. Unchecking "I want my profile on the web" will make your profile disappear completely in any Viewer that uses web profiles, that's no privacy setting, that's a ridiculous way of pretending we have got a choice not to have our profiles on the web.... J.
  6. After wandering Mesh City on the beta grid for some hours, loking at all the stuff on display there , I wonder what's sooooo great about mesh? Imho Mesh is being widely overestimated. Jeannie
  7. So, another try to make V2 less worse? Does it still use web profiles that violate my privacy? Does it still use the google search engine that brings up anything but what I am looking for? Has the sidebar been killed or does it still use up 25+% of the screen?? If no, no modification to the skin will make it useable.... Jeannie P.S. Tring to improve V2 is like curing symptomps but not the disease itself....
  8. I have tried every single release of Viever 2 and it has not improved, it get's worse with every release, the useability issues have not been adressed, the really strange menus are still there ( Look at Kokua, they have the standard menus (File, Edit, view etc) on a V2 codebase), the sidebar ( to quote the Misfits, Die, die, die, my sidebar) is still there as a central element ( now, even the mini map will be stuffed in there), and the web profiles are the worst addition to a badly designed product, making v2 even less useable (not talking about the privacy violation). LL just added more and more functions to V2 without adressing the real issues like the inappropriate google web search in it, that brings up anything but the stuff you're really looking for and takes so much loinger that the excellent V1 search. V2 needs a completely new GUI, and the Firestorm developers are giving an excellent example that a V2 codebase GUI can inded be useable. I will not use LL V2 as daily viewer, I will stick with a V1.x based viewer ( SIngularity or Phoenix) till the last second I can use it and switch to Firestorm ( or maybe Kokua once it's ready) when V1 based viewers will not be useable anymore. A new V2 poll wouild indeed be a good idea, but please not here, but as a general poll for every resident linked to on login in SL and with publically visible results. Jeannie
  9. Hello. I have disabled 'Show my profile in Search' in V1.23. Now my Profile is gone from search, and I can't reenable it in V2 anymore. Waht is to be done to make my Profile show up in search again?
  10. Just found something extremely annoying: The new profile system has got one big big problem, if you disable the availability of your profile in V1.x based viewers, the profile will not show up any more in the V2 search, and there is no way to reenable this in V2. So you have to log in on a V1.x based viewer and reenable to have your profile in the search there. If LL had banned V1 already, there would be no possibility to put your profile back into search at all. Maybe it's not a good idea to improve eveything in V2 beyond useability, LL...... Jeannie
  11. Hello Fredrik. These upcoming Privacy Settings are quite good news. My comment to them: Make the 'I want my profile available on the web' turned off by default. My question: If I can turn off the display of my profile on the web, will you keep the old style in-world profiles in the viewer or will turning off the web display of the profile the display of the profile in V2.whatever will be released next completely too? If the upcoming release of V2.5 would only be able to show web profiles, it would be a bad bad move, as it would force us to enable the web display to show our profiles in the viewer for other residents. Jeannie
  12. /me wonders why Second Life has got own forums and blogs and even an in-world comm system...., Why use Facebook and Twitter then? Jeannie
  13. Well, if i ran a company and would allow unrestricted access to adult and illegal content ( e.G. sexually motivated cannibalism) on my pages and would risk to lose about 10 (germany) to 50(europe)% of my clients by publishing this to everyone, i'd most probably would be concerned about that and think over the decision of publishing such stuff publically. I absolutely understand that parents report such content to the authorities. Sometimes, the responsible people in companies should think first about possible consequences of making content from a closed communtiy publically available without any control by the persons who created this content inside the closed community and without age verification instruments. Jeannie
  14. Well, Hitomi, the public acces of prnographic, fascist and illegal sexual contents in web profiles was reported here http://www.jugendschutz.net/ and here: http://ec.europa.eu/information_society/activities/sip/index_en.htm by some freinds I know who have teen children. Pretty much fictional pages, aren't they??? Jeannie
  15. Well, I have heard of first cases that web profiles were reported to the european department of juvenile protection for displaying adult, fascist, perverted sexual and other illegal content freely on the web. Wel'll see what happens now. What if LL gets banned in europe for the web profile nonsense? Jeannie
  16. Well, Fredrik, there is one rather important thing coming to my mind now: If adult content is accessible on SL web profiles, SL might get banned in many many countries for displaying adult content to minors. In europe, governments are thinking about restricting access to adult web content to the late evening hours (10 pm on) so LL would lose a lot of european customers if web profiles with possible adult content are publically accessible. Why not make all web profile content (except the avatar name) only accessible to logged in SL residents and include the SL age verification to profile content like you did on the region access? Jeannie
  17. I strongly oppose the idea of having web based profiles as default for everyone, the information contained in one's profile is something that is created for in world use and nothing that should be accessible publically on the web. Having a profile available on the web should always just be an option and residents should be able to decide freely if they want this web option for their in-world information or not. The same should be the case for the social network linking, if you are not willing to opt out web profiles, give us a.) the possibility that not everyone can link a resident's profile to FB or Twitter without the resident's consent. Let us decide if we want the social network link buttons on our web profile b.) make all content of the web profiles visible only for logged in SL residents. Viewers up to V2.4 show that it is possible to display the profile information in world using the same data as the web profiles, so don't tell me it won't work, or is the only real reason for web based profiles the possibility to put ads on them? Jeannie
  18. It is no blind hate against Viewser 2, it's 9 months of constant struggling with things the alpha testers already noticed and that were not fixed, dealing with more and more bugs in each and every new V2 release and LL has got nothing to offer but ( in my opinion rather useless) display names that cause nothing but confusion instead of fixing long overdue bugs and useability issues? Look at the Jira, there's countless reports about things that are really broken in V2. The inavailability of a skin with higher contrast and transparency, the search and the inventory sorting are just some examples of how LL has broken or made things worse in V2 that worked in V1 very good or rather has not made it (or is not able to??) to fix them since the release of V 2.0 beta in february!) and now they give us 'display names' a copletely childish thing and say: Oh, it's easy, fast, fun? The day v2 becomes mandatory, I and many of the people I know will be gone. There's many places like SL on the web, SL does not have the monopol in virtual worlds, but it seems they still believe they do. Wake up, LL, before it's too late, V2.x is an epic failure, trash it and start from scratch, even if it takes another year and listen to your paying customers this time ( this time? I'd rather have to say 'one single time!') Jeannie (you may also call me '???' as my name is displayed in the display names viewer or 'Secondlife Resident' as my name is displayed on the SL webpage), highly annoyed and dissapointed by V2 and LL
  19. Well, my first presumption if someone changes their user name to a display name would be that it's an impostor or griefer. There's no need to hide one's real user name behind a display name except you have the need to hide your real SL identity for some obscure reasons..... And I will not have a display name, i will keep my user name jean Horten and will not run around with that silly new griefer names viewer layout jean.horten. Display Names, as useful as a faked RL Identity... Jeannie
  20. Well, It is my parcel, and display names users will be ejected without exception. If you want to visit my place, use your genuine name, not a faked display name or stay away. And I am sure I am not the only one in Sl who will act exactly like me.... Jeannie
  21. Is there already any device available to eject people that use display names from private land? I am strongly interrested in getting such a device for my parcel, as I do not want anyone with a faked name walking in pretending to be someone else... Jeannie
  22. Strangely enough, only about 20% of the residents I see in world use V2, and I am sure the unpopularity of V2 must have a reason. I blame the unuseable GUI for that, V2 has gotit's good functions under teh hood, but geh hood is as unuseable and ugly as can be. WIthout a cvomplete makeover of the GUI I will never use V2 and if one day, V1.x based viewers are not allowed to access SL, I will be goone too. Now don't tell me, teh GUI has been improved in sop many ways, V2 stilllacks of useability in regards of cluttered black boxes all over teh screen, in regards of this really annoying and confusing comunication system that is spread allove rteh screen and separated between IMs, Local chat, the chat box and these horribel 'toasts' that flash arpund somewhere at the right bottom of the screen. Stuffing all functions into the sidebar is another annoyance, the sidebar limits teh possibilities of teh viewer so much and one should be able to really 'detach' the tabs and turn them into real windows that can be rezides, closed, opened up various times and not like now in V2.2 or 2.4 just dtachtinmg them from teh sidebar monster and reattaching or minimizing them. But it seems the sidebar and the communications system is a substantial part of the viewer that cannot be changed easily and was implemented by these ukrainian developers with no in world experience who programmed the initial V2.0 viewer. Outsourcing sometines does not pay out, and sticking to a product that is refused by much more than half of the customer base might not be a too good idea too. And no bait will make me use V2, neither mesh nor the screen names thing noome needs, I'd not even use it if I got payed 10000 L$ a day..... Jeannie
  23. I laugh at people who hop from sim to sim, do chatting and that's it and say V2 is useable.... Try to have between 5 and 10 IMs open, plus local chat plus several HUDs plus the inventory and the profile tab open cause you need that for hosting or djing and you'll see nothing but big opaque boxes hiding your 3-d world immersion..... V2? No way with that GUI atrocity.... J.
  24. So, this is improved? Well, the sidebar panels still are opaque, even if they are torn off, the redundant and heavily confusing inventory/outfits system is still there, the communications system ist still unuseable, and all of this is the case in V2.4 beta too. Yes, right, V2.4 beta is already there. I wonder why LL is throwing out a 2.4 beta, if 2.2 has got so many improvenments. LL: Replace the GUI with something useable and don't mess around trying to cure the GUI's symptomps. This GUI cannot be improved, it needs to be scrapped. The day V2 becomes mandatory will be the first day of my life without SL. The V2.x GUI needs to go down the drain, basta! Jeannie
