  1. You know where I see the trend more often, is on the marketplace and on flickr. If by "dwarfism trend" you mean the short wide hipped, big headed women with skinny legs so wide apart they don't meet. When out and about, I see one or two of the very short and wide distorted women. I know a few male avatars who have always been RL sized, for years though. I do wonder if it's a genuine trend or whether its because it is so commented on and photographed? I have several shapes I use, the most common being 7'2" and the 5'5", been playing around with those two and tweaking them for years. I have chubbier shapes for somefits, and more slender for others.
  2. It depends on where you go and who you hang out with. At 7 feet, 2 inches tall, my avatar is actually shorter than most of my male friends, and some of my female friends. When I do where a more realistic RL shape (5'5") I'm the height of a child in comparison to those with whom I spend time. So, unless you are hanging around alot with mostly "short" avatars, you are going to stand out and look a bit freakish and possibly creep out those around you if you go shorter than 6'. Best bet is to get a correctly proportioned shape and edit it to your liking. Penny Patton has some well proportioned realistic sized shapes that can be modified to suit your tastes ... https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Vitruvian-Shapes-Full-Perm-Set-12/4426725 I find it FAR easier to tweak her shapes than attempt to scale down an oversized shape.
  3. I haven't used the LL viewer in a long time. It took me some time to get used to the V2 interface but once I did, I loved it, and find it much easier and more common sense for me, so have used TPV with the same interface, my faves being Exodus and Catznip. The only thing I miss about the V1 style is the fixed chat bar at the bottom for local chat, that was nice. Regardless, I hadn't even seen the official LL viewer in ages, but seeing this thread, I decided to download the latest version ... after watching that video. It really doesn't seem all that different to me than chatting normally, truth be told. I want to chat with someone, I go to my friends list and click on the name to open a chat, same as before. I close the chat the same way. the interface, even with both panes open , is smaller than the default chat window that pops up with a regular IM session. I like the color coding to see what is active, and which is the open chat. I like the ease of adding people to a group chat, and when I move it and minimize it, it's barely noticed on my screen. The only difference that would take some getting used to is the vertical list instead of tabs. So it takes up less space than regular chat, is easy to use, it just is arranged a bit differently, I can't quite grasp what all the fuss is about, other than having to get used to the list view rather than tabs.
  4. Registered sex offenders don't violate the TOS just by being registered sex offenders. Just like they don't break the law by moving into a RL neighborhood. I think it's a bit sad that this person trusted you enough to confide in you and you want him banned from SL.
  5. If you do want to move it next to an existing sim, the owner of that sim has to give permission for another sim to be touching it on the next grid space. This goes for each sim it would be touching, assuming they're owned by different people, you'd need permission of each sim owner whose land would be touching yours.
  6. I am with you there, 100%. its a spider with a fancy painted bum, doing the wave. Nothing cute ever about spiders ... shudders
  7. Thank you, yes, if land is set to the group without deeding the land, items set to other groups before the about land settings change stay. If the land is deeded to a group, items may or may not be returned when that change is made. The reason it's different when the land is deeded to a group is the change in ownership of the land and prim limits available ... if the ownership changes in any way and there aren't prims to spare on the parce/region owned by the same groupl, items get returned just as with any change in ownership. I agree, having everything on the same parcel set to the same group as the land before playing around with land settings is the best idea when it can be done.
  8. If a friend is in the group and wearing the group tag when rezzing or building there, auto return will not return the items, it will only return items rezzed by those not wearing the group tag. Also, anything already rezzed, regardless of group, before autoreturn is enabled won't be returned.
  9. That happens to me, but only with one group in particular. It's been that way for months, I just try to ignore it, don't know that there's a fix to it.
  10. I rezzed a mesh dress to edit it, one prim, LI of 26. It's really surprising just how high a LI some mesh has!
  11. Thanks for that, always good to learn new things. That is something I have never encountered on the estates I've worked, since there are few land owners and everyone has their parcels set to their own groups generally, with object entry and build set to of except for group members. None of the residents have ever done (or would do) that. When one of the sims had neighbors on all sides, I'd find griefing objects at high altitudes, but since the sims are now isolated, griefer objects entering from other sims isn't an issue, for which I'm thankful.
  12. Scary thought ... what if that is something someone actually thinks looks GREAT? Personally, I recommend that everyone turn build and object entry both off, then you don't have to fuss with autoreturn.
  13. As far as LL is concerned, there is no PG, it is "moderate" ... at moderate sims, nudity is allowed in public, but no overt sexual activities or graphic depictions of a pornographic nature in public. However, "PG" if it is a term being used, is used by estate and venue owners and it is whatever they say it is, and the definition varies from place to place. When in doubt, ask for a definition of PG, including a list of "bad words." So while using the word "bum" may be frowned upon by a place where the staff chides you because it is "PG" it does not violate any LL sim ratings. however, that does not mean you will not get kicked out of such a place for using that word if they feel like kicking you out. Unless, of course, people are using PG to mean G rated. Then, no public nudity, nothing of a sexual nature anywhere on the sim. So essentially what I am saying is that calling a place PG is utterly meaningless in terms of LL's TOS and community standards. PG stands for "parental guidance" and really just means not suitable for young children due to graphic depictions of violence, and perhaps some nudity and ribald humor.
  14. Mesh items definitely have a land impact, there is some glitchiness apparently.
  15. I'd think the soliciting would have to be pretty explicit. I used to work at a G rated sim and there was a child avatar, looked to be about a 7 yr old girl. She was approached by an adult male avatar who asked if he could take a walk with her and hold her hand. Another person who worked on the sim booted the man and acted as though he were a child molester, and seemed to think that he had, in fact, "saved" a child from being molested. That's neither here nor there other than to say that asking a child avatar to hold your hand and go for a walk doesn't constitute age play and that someone overreacted; unless it's explicit sexual conversation, it violates nothing other than the sensibilities of those who know it's thinly veiled sexual solicitation. "Want to spend time with me, Daddy? I willy wike woo" may be gross but it's not explicit or overtly sexual. You reported the age player, you can report the guard, you can report the sim owner if you make him or her aware and he or she chooses to do nothing. However, given that the guard said the avatar was "fine" I suspect that it was just skirting the line, or as age players tend to say "a youthful 18" or perhaps the language used in soliciting sex wasn't over the line, so to speak. I've hosted events at an estate that does not allow child avatars and had people sputtering in IMs about "what is that little boy doing here?" and it's clearly not a little boy to any but those who are looking at height and build. As for age play groups listed in a profile? Once again, they'd have to be pretty explicit. I just did a search, and the wording in the group descriptions is thinly veiled but it is veiled. All that to say, ARing the avatar for age play, sending pics to LL (ARs are always better with screen shots) ... you've done your part. If you go around putting the sim in your profile as being one that allows age play (which is LL's determination when they follow up on an AR, not yours) that might be construed as harassment and then you'd be the one crossing a line.
  16. Amen, Czari! I'm over 5 years in SL and I've never ever met a merchant who intentonally scammed me, and I shop a LOT. Sometimes something I purchase doesn't have an item in the package, but a polite IM or note to the merchant explaining this corrects that issue. What I think is rather a bleak commentary is when merchants all but fall over themselves apologizing for an honest mistake ... that indicates to me that they all too often deal with rude, nasty, demanding people. The very rare times something isn't what it's supposed to be or something is missing from a package, or a delivery fails, I always always start off my message to the merchant letting her or him know that it's NO BIG DEAL, take their time, no rush, and usually it's more of a head's up to a merchant to check what's in a package so the next person who buys the same item isn't a totally rude jerk to someone who makes an honest mistake.
  17. Unless that exact spot is saved in someone's favorites and someone has their viewer set to log in from favorite locations, or set as a home location, or the first avatar LMd the spot and sent that LM to all the alts, it is doubtful an alt will rez at the exact same spot as was just vacated by another alt. I've been in SL over 5 years and never once encountered anyone alting and messing with people in a guessing game. Yes, they have alts, some have a lot of alts, but everyone tends to know who they are, they aren't trying to fool anyone. Most people I know who have alts who are not upfront about it don't frequent the same places as their original account, nor have the same group of friends. That sort of defeats the purpose of alts, doesn't it? IF you are hanging out with a bunch of people with so little common sense, meh, you might want to get out to other sorts of places and meet other types of people.
  18. I once gave pony rides at a charity carnival, I still have tshirts that say I paid to ride Lucretia, I can send you one :matte-motes-wink-tongue:
  19. I'd prefer they take four times as long after an announcement; when they rush innovations, you're so right, SL becomes borked for months afterward. Heck, even with pathfinding turned off, it still manages to bork sims, I had to smooth the ruffled feathers of a fellow estate manager whose landscaping was ruined after a region rebake. Now I don't recommend rebaking to anyone. Since my job is essentially that of nagging the estate owner, that's what I nag about, remember, restart, do NOT rebake:matte-motes-sarcasm:
  20. There are some kinks to be worked out with region rebaking, we don't do it where I work after rebaking mucked up the terraforming and moved some objects around. Even if the rebake button does show up, it was my understanding that only the sim owner clicking it would do anything. Regardless, better to restart a region than rebaking it, IMO.
  21. One of the estate managers or owners could ask LL for a roll back (if it's not a mainland sim), to a time before your build was sent back to you.
  22. For male skins, try Prodigal.
  23. I am a complete eye junkie, so any more suggestions would be great - i have dozens of eyes from IKON, lots from Eddesign (my fave before IKON), quite a few from Candace, but I'm always up for more shopping. Before IKON, Eddesign was my favorite, I just never bothered with the prim eyes that go with his sets.
  24. alcohol and tobacco for toddler avatars, no biggie, just don't offer them joints :matte-motes-wink:
  25. For realistic eyes with larger pupils, I'd go with Candace Hudson. For more realistic eyes with smaller pupils, I'd go with IKON. I've never found prim eyes to add much to a look, I wouldn't go to some pricier place with prim eyes.
