  1. Given the usefulness of alts for builders, merchants, role players, and those with more imagination than can be contained in one avatar, a better question might be alts, why not have them? In RL, we're pretty much stuck with our bodies, our genders, our race, species, ethnic background. SL affords people the opportunity to get unstuck. Why choose to limit oneself in SL when there are plenty of limits in RL?
  2. It's the graphics settings in the viewer, enabling reflections. Most viewers have that in the advanced graphics settings.
  3. She's going around claiming to be the manager of your sim. If she bad mouths your business while claiming to be the manager, she is badmouthing herself. It's more than likely that she wants to feel important in SL (now that is a whole other can of worms, wanting an ego boost by claiming to be the manager of a venue in SL is really pathetic). Other than posting on her feed, I would suggest sending out group notices letting people know she's not affiliated with you, putting that in YOUR profile, and putting signs at your landing points stating this. If it still bothers you, heck, rent some billboards and get the message out that way, or just let it go. Why let someone push your buttons that way?
  4. LL will not take action unless the creator of the item that has been illegally copied files a complaint. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong in regard to the following, but being ripped off likely falls under the category of a resident to resident dispute, with which LL does not usually get involved. They are not condoning illegal activity, they state that they cannot get involved with resident to resident disputes because there are THOUSANDS of such disputes, some minor, some major and they intercede in TOS and community standards violations only, otherwise they steer clear. Buyer beware has always been the order of the day when purchasing items, land, or services in SL. Leave a negative marketplace review, tell your friends, send group notices to get the word out, that is about all you can do. As for your refusal to follow the forum rules ... "BTW-My post will stand, if I am banished because of the fact that I am making a stand that enough is enough, Second Life will loose a valued citizen." Your post is essentially a complaint about someone not following what you feel should be a rule, yet you blatantly refuse to comply with the rules of the forum. How does a blatant disregard for rules LL has in place make you a valued citizen? Imagine if we could all post whatever negative opinions we wanted about merchants and landlords in SL? Competitors could set out to ruin perfectly good, legitimate businesses with slander and the forums would be far more compative than they generally are.
  5. I'm good friends with two really well put together gay men, they certainly wouldn't be getting any jollies from posing with you, one is a photographer, another is a model he uses. I can ask them if they'd pose with you/for you. IM me inworld and I can give you their names.
  6. In my sluttirific heyday when I dressed to impress and gussied up my avatar to look hot and flirted outrageously, had an average of 3 and a half SL boyfriends at any one time, visited sex clubs, etc (before embracing SLelibacy almost 4 years ago), very few would approach me unless I was sending out those COME AND GET IT VIBES. If someone is being hit on excessively, if men are misreading signals, it has more to do with the signals being sent. Dress modestly, don't go out of your way to look hot, stick to G rated places, hardly anyone is going to hit on you. Invite a guy to your place that has a sex bed, don't be surprised if he hops on and wants to fool around, signals are easily misread in IM, there's no body language, no facial expression, tone of voice. It's something best laughed off, miscommunications online abound. As for switching genders to avoid being hit on, easier to just make a less attractive avatar and not dress like a tramp.
  7. Usernames can NEVER be changed. You can use a display name if you like but whatever username you chose, you're stuck with until the end of time.
  8. You might consider premium membership, it comes with 512m "free" land. You can either get a Linden home for free or purchase a little parcel on mainland as long as it's 512m, you won't pay anything after the initial purchase. You also have a 300L per week stipend. If you pay your premium fee once a year, it works out to be 6 USD a month, and is really the cheapest way to "live" and own a home in SL.
  9. How I wish that had been the case, they were billing me for over 6 months and I kept trying to work it outt, thinking oh, they'd give me a refund but nope.
  10. I'm sure, I went over it again and again, Phil. That's what was so frustrating about it. Just a head's up, I don't know if something glitched or that's how that program thinks, but better safe than sorry.
  11. Phil Deakins wrote: As far as I know, the selected option in that list is irrelevant to how much I will be charged, because I will only be charged for the land I've actually used during the previous month, irrespective of what option is selected in that list. Nevertheless, I'd still like to feel really safe by changing that selection to the $40 option in advance of my billing date on the 24th. I have changed my group donation to 9568, so that isn't getting in the way. So, is there a way to change to the $40 option in the list and keep the remaining land group-owned during the process? Or will I have cross my fingers that my understanding is correct about not being billed according to that selection? ETA: On reading the text at the top of the page, it does appear that my understanding is correct, so this request for help may not have been necessary. Even so, if anyone has any insight, I'd appreciate it. Phil, I had the same problem when downgrading. I didn't change the 40 USD option because it wouldn't let me, figuring it was clear, I don't own land, why would I be charged that land use fee (I'm talking about the second chart, below the one detailing what you actually own). I was charged anyway, even though the first chart clearly showed I didn't own any land. From what LL told me, the program reads that as permission to go ahead and charge you. Oh, so you want to pay 40 bucks a month? OK, if you insist, but you don't owe any land, thanks for the donation. It was group owned land I had given up, check to make sure the land you gave up isn't included in the group assets, that may be what's preventing it from letting you choose 40 USD. This went on for months and caused me to cancel my premium account. Don't take it for granted, if something on one of those charts isn't changing, please check with billing about it and clarify this to save yourself a potential headache later.
  12. Orca Flotta wrote: Sorry, I don't get it. You got your account back after 3 years of inactivity. What does that mean? Did you actually delete the account back then and now you paid LL 9.95 US$ for reactivation? Then why do you wanna start new with a stupid n00bish 'Resident' surname? Not everyone likes their username they picked from years ago. I've seen alot of people with last names change them via display names and have only a first name. At first I didn't get it, I thought ok, why do they want to give up their individuality that way? Then I wondered, wait a sec, do they think they are THAT big, that well known or beloved in SL that they can give up their last name and be instantly recognized? Ohhh of course, it is the one, the only ... Jane. That's regarding last names, some don't like their first name they chose. Orca Flotta wrote: Anyway, coming back after 3 years (3 RL years are roundabout 3000 SL years) is a fresh start anyway. Nobody will remember you, your whole inventory is totally outdated, your friendslist probably empty. It's like getting out of jail, you're on a clean slate. That all isn't the case, who's to say if anyone will remember her or not? I bump into people I used to work with or date in SL from years ago, people who I haven't seen in 4 years who are long gone from friends lists or never were, and I remember them. As for an entire inventory being totally outdated .... meh, some clothing and hair and eyes still stand the test of time, so do some good of the better sculpted structures. While there have been improvements in some skins, once gain, others hold up quite well. I have a friend who really wants to update his look on occasion but he can't find a skin of better quality than the one he has been wearing for over 3 years now. Also, it's not a clean slate, you have no idea what the OP was like before, whether very "good" or very "bad" and how well people will remember her. The OP didn't ask, how do I update my look after being away for 3 years? She asked how can she transfer inventory items that are non transfer because she wants to start fresh on a new account. Advice she's been given on skins and shapes here has been (in general) to encourage her to go shopping for her new account and not regret the inability to transfer things she likes. You're the only one who has posted a response implying ... and please note I say implying, not stating ... that she's silly or stupid with little taste and utterly forgettable to people she knew before.
  13. It's impossible for them to do it without causing an uproar and possible legal issues for infringing on the property rights of content creators. LL doesn't own items we purchase in SL, it provides a platform for the creation and purchase and use of virtual goods belonging to others. Yes the CAN do it technically but the CAN'T do it for more practical reasons. If I were a content creator, I'd be fuming if LL were in the habit of just providing people with copies of my work. Do it for one person for whatever reason and that opens the floodgates for a heck of a lot of abuse. So yes, it is indeed IMPOSSIBLE in that sense. There are enough content thieves out there, who wants LL to become one as well?
  14. Kamimatsu wrote: 1. Bitcoin is not even close to what you think it is. It's basically the same as cash or gold. It has a bad reputation because people always pay attention only to what's wrong. The news isn't always right. If it was, Second Life would be a sex sim and only a sex sim, Mass Effect would also be that, people would be proven guilty because of hearsay, and all computer experts would be criminals. 2. They get paid when you use LindeX. That's all. They only make it against the ToS because they knew they were missing out when people liked the lower fees on some other service. 3. What if you have no card or Paypal? I know someone (who will remain anonymous for obvious reasons) who plays this who legally cannot own a bank account of any kind. Cash only. Otherwise they revoke his rights under the government program he's in. 4. This won't stop laundering. People will just funnel it through LindeX instead, and LL will be paid for your loss. 5. Don't live in America? Then you can't withdraw L$ anymore. Have fun. 2. LL is working with some TPE so that they can remain in operation, which lends more credence to the notion of LL complying with US Federal law than the notion that they are being greedy. 5. That is simply not the case. I know people in England, Scotland, Spain, Italy, France, Greece, Mexico, and several Caribbean countries who have NO issues whatsoever with using Lindex and have never used TPEs.
  15. If the shapes are ones you really love, and they are mod, you can go into appearance edit and jot down the numbers on each slider. However, skin creation has improved vastly over the last three years, you might want to update with new skins. if they were fabulous skins three years ago, they may still be very good but there are chances that a lot of people are wearing t he same skins. I changed a skin I'd been wearing for years when I saw too many of my twins walking around SL, it was a very distinctive skin from Redgrave. But certainly, check to see if the content creators are still in SL and willing to help you out, nothing ventured, nothing gained after all. Good luck!
  16. Now you can't say you've never been banned before! You too can feel the shame, the horror, the indignation! I say she should have let you go to her park so you could do something utterly outrageous and THEN ban you, what fun is a ban if you haven't done anything to earn it? Then again, what fun is it to talk about the injustice of it all, the D R A M A if you are an innocent victim of some mean land owner's whim? :matte-motes-shocked: Trinity, if you're interested in being a REAL bad girl, come to the estate I manage or my ML parcel, I can ban you from 3 full sims and oh, about 1/8th of a sim, give or take :matte-motes-wink-tongue:
  17. I agree, appearance often becomes persona with many in SL. When there were fewer really superb skins available a few years back, I stuck to one skin and basic look for a while once I found one I liked. Nowadays, I have about 40 or so really good skins, a dozen or so shapes, and about 30 different sets of eyes and I change every few days, though I do have my half dozen favorite skins, three fave sets of eyes, and 4 shapes. My face shape stays the same across the board. LOL I wonder what that says about my persona? I think it reflects my belief that SL should be fun and people shouldn't limit themselves due to (or be bound by) RL constraints so much. That's just me
  18. That's interesting, the intonations we each give the written word. I really didn't see the OP's tone as concerned, more like (giggle giggle) let me stir up things with something provocative. If we all saw things the same way, it would be a lot more dull around here though.
  19. So much for etiquette or trying to be friendly or neighborly. Granted, ignorance of the law is no excuse but courtesy used to dictate contacting a sim owner and having the sim owner see about removing the items before filing an AR. If the items are indeed sex scripted, it could be a rental and the sim owner isn't aware that they're there ... why cause a stranger trouble without informing him or her and allowing the situation to be rectified before getting all vigilante and ARing some stranger on a sim you're just passing through?
  20. ok, and you go clicking on toilets and bath tubs why?I mean, were you say, out for a long walk and had to relieve yourself, maybe relax with a soak in a tub after your walk? If it's a place you live or work, meh, maybe contact the sim owner and let the owner handle it. If you were just passing through, and no one was doing the big nasty on the items in question, assuming they were indeed X rated and not just bathroom fixtures, I'd keep on walking if I were in that situation.
  21. I've heard of a bridge to nowhere but that's a bridge to everything! No idea, I don't use FS, know nothing about the bridge. It makes me wonder though, if the recent threads I've seen about attaching an entire inventory are indeed related to that, I'd never heard of the issue before reading about it here.
  22. Hi again Mike. I think, as they say,it's a question of semantics. When people say role play in SL, they're refering to role play sims. You are viewing SL as one big RP, in that we can customize our avatars and be any sort of creature we can think of in SL. I've known mer folk, demons, tinies, furries ... they don't consider that role play, that's just how they represent themselves, and oftentimes express part of their inner nature that has no outlet for expression in RL. Most of the people I've met in SL don't create a persona for themselves in their profiles unless they're specifically involved in distinct RP sims and situations. They mention their interests, likes, dislikes, etc in their profiles. They're not "in character" all the time. I may look different in RL but my personality is the same whether SL or RL. Rather than thinking of SL as RP, I personally consider it a vastly expanded chat room. That's really it at the most basic level, a 3D chat room, not RP. Now, there are some indeed who consider SL to be one vast RP and they RP friendships and romance and all the rest. If you choose to consider SL as one large meta role play environment, you might want to put that in your profile to avoid confusing others. Just a suggestion :matte-motes-grin:
  23. That is definitely a demo shape. They're no mod with oversized hands and/or feet.
  24. If you crash too soon to fix this by the other methods, log in, turn your graphics down to minimum, and open your outfits folder and wear an outfit. Or do a character test to bump you back to the the base female avatar. It sounds like you'd crash if you tpd or moved around too much, this method is faster than the others suggested. If the first method merely adds the outfit to what you're already wearing, I'd go with the character test, it's faster.
