  1. Speculation on WHY the Clarification of policy disallowing ***** happened... I believe that the timing of the scandal-that-shall-not-be-named verdict and the announcement of changes to the child-avatar policy is COINCIDENTAL. The later is driven by the first topic in Enhancing Our World Together: Important Updates for the Second Life Community, the Second Life Mobile App. In order to be accepted into the Apple App Store, an app must adhere to Apple's App Review Guidelines. Sections 1.1 and 1.2 address "objectionable" and "user-generated" content. An app must adhere to the guidelines by default. I speculate that the recent changes are necessary to meet this requirement. The timeline is determined by when Linden Lab expects to place the SL Mobile App in the Apple App Store. There will be NO compromise on this policy, only innocuous tweaks.
  2. Fashion review... I liked Kiera's hair clips. Tommy looked fine but perhaps a little too much like a bouncer.
  3. Version LH - Security System // V2.3.2 supports the "Allow Group" feature, which will remove a non group member from your parcel following a 15 second warning. You get the security system by clicking House Controller in front of your Linden Home and clicking on that menu item. Don't forget to set your parcel to your desired group. This version comes with a notecard titled "Using the Second Generation Linden Homes Security System", which explains the operation of this device (in English).
  4. Kindly use for discussing issues relating to Linden Home selection. This topic is for discussing new regions (having the SSP prefix).
  5. Where I Am After 250 Pages of Discussion 1. Only speculation as to why TOS was changed given that the triggering event was investigation and a verdict of "nothing to see here" was issued. The previous TOS seemed to cover child-avatar issues. 2. Realization that this issue does not effect me directly as I have zero contact with whatever communities are being targeted. I actually avoided BA5 events because they were advertised as "family friendly". 3. Realization that this issue could effect me if it escalates, as I am often in the company of (and appreciate) tinies, furries, animals, chimeras, anime, etc. 4. Remain interested in the part of the Linden post that concerns "making updates to our internal policies". This is why I started another thread where we can give input on the communications/relations between Lindens/Moles and residents. These polices will effect all of us, regardless of our RL age, avatar presentation or roleplay preferences.
  6. I thought the actual crisis was a false allegation of misconduct by Lindens posted by an anonymous source, which LL investigated and found to have no merit. Is there an additional “child avatar crisis” that has yet to be disclosed and is new? Is this really about EU laws? The novel crisis in the US concerns sites like PronHub and RL age verification imposed by a few states.
  7. Six new regions have been added to the north Ranch coast. Getting closer to Bleaberry Tarn.
  8. The title of the topic is a direct quote from the blog referenced in the OP. The topic is motivated by the stated desire of Linden Lab to "minimize the perception of conflict of interest and favoritism in our interactions". This suggests they need to stop doing the things that contribute to this problem. I hope effective communication will INCREASE. Also, it may be more than a simple "perception" problem. My suggestion concerning alts does seem extreme and I imagine that they might simply have a stated policy about keeping a firewall between alts and Linden/Mole avatars. For example, an alt should not gain any advantage in acquiring a Linden Home. They might already have such policies.
  9. I third the recommendation. Assuming the photog is just shooting and not expecting to do any further digital processing or editing, the recommended amount is similar to what a DJ might receive in tips for an equivalent time period.
  10. In a recent Linden Lab blog post, we find... (The title of this topic is a section heading in the quoted post) I have some suggestions. Guiding Principle Lindens and Moles should not behave as if they are residents. Rather, they should provide services to residents, primarily in the areas of infrastructure building, governance/moderation and communication (customer relations). Residents entertain themselves, hence, Lindens and Moles need not bother. Recommendations (including but not limited to) - Lindens/Moles interact with residents only within the scope of their duties. - Opportunities for resident participation in Linden Lab sponsored events are communicated in a public manner with complete transparency. - Linden Lab does not favor particular charities via free regions or Linden/Mole participation. Charities need to pay their own freight and only residents participate. - Linden Lab does not favor particular community organizing, events, or games by residents. All residents need to be on an equal playing field. - Linden/Mole alts (for enjoying Second Life as residents) are subject to monitoring from an internal governance group. Using an unmonitored alt would result in termination. Too extreme? How about prohibiting obvious conflicts of interest or establishing a firewall policy. - (sorry, this one is rather specific) Temporary reterraforming/repurposing of Bellisseria regions for events is not allowed. Hope this helps
  11. Dylan was…. a man? Golly! This thread reminds me of an eyewitness radio broadcast by a reporter named Herbert Morrison… yanno… concerning the Hindenburg.
  12. Are we being Swift-ed (Jonathan, not Taylor)? ‘Tis a Modest Proposal.
  13. ^^ this and is this a GIANT LOOPHOLE? 1. declare as an adult 2. go to adult region 3. appear as child
  14. With respect to the OP, I suggest that many here just like to debate things. For example... This is nonsense! A less nonsensical statement would be "Even a broken clock is right twice a day, BUT only in a frame of reference that contains a working clock.". Imagine you are in a room with only a broken clock. As you do not know the current time, you never know when the clock is right. You may say "Bogus!", it's still right even though you don't when it is right.... just as a tree makes a sound when it falls and no one is round to hear it. But when THAT happens, you can deduce that it makes a sound because you can visit the fallen tree and do an experiment with another tree to see that such an occurrence makes a sound. And so on.... Now back to our regular programming.
  15. Stilt on Pier Tortuga with pergola, stilt upgrade and Bandit dock.
  16. Actually, I was arrested, endured a trial and was sentenced to time in a Bellisseria Community Center (not even one of the good ones). However, I won my case on appeal to the Supreme Lindens by citing the "no gaslighting" clause of the Linden constitution.
  17. The Neko Lion is right. I myself have done it like this. If the land is deeded to a group (call it FooLand), if all the objects are in FooLand, then the only issue is who contributes tier to FooLand. In your case, it will be the new avatar. There is one privacy issue, however. Nosey people who look at your objects might notice that some are owned by the original avatar and some are owned by the new one and infer that these avatars are alts.
  18. I have noticed that there are large sections of double track beginning in Atoll Story, suggesting that they expect two-way traffic. So perhaps they are building an out and back situation, with a big loop turnaround at the end, like they have already built in Briar Hill. I think they have yet to fill in that hole with houses. The surrounding regions have roads that lead into it. This is similar to Los Topos, where the region exists but is just a big green field.
  19. I use a 15" Lenovo Legion 5 laptop purchased in July, 2021 for $1300 USD. CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz (2592 MHz) Memory: 32676 MB (Used: 2077 MB) Concurrency: 12 OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit (Build 19045.4291) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 Graphics Card Memory: 4096 MB (We don't need no stinkin' Win 11!)
  20. I much appreciated Jackson's analysis. I can only add that 2024 feels alot like 1994, replacing "web/internet" with "AI/game engines". There is a tsunami of change coming that will effect everything. As for the owners of Linden Research, they are approaching the end of a financial play... they merely want return on past investment, right? If there is an actual market for whatever we do in Second Life, would it not be exploited by those actually in the technology/gaming industry financed by new venture capital? Is the secret sauce of SL really adult activities? (Loved Vanity Fair's discussion of this, the avatar not the magazine.)
  21. It’s like there was a landslide and some prims from an adjacent resident parcel slid onto the road and into the tunnel, very interesting. Needs some orange cones.
  22. I only know two things for sure about Linden Research... it has owners and we are not them. The Tilia acquisition is part one of an exit strategy. Second Life is insignificantly small and not growing. When the cash cow stops mooing, the jig is up. Adult content will not be our downfall. We might be like George Bailey in despair, worth more dead than alive. AI data models need feeding. Linden Research owns the rights to everything that has ever been in your inventory. Connect the dots. Follow the money.
  23. I don't need to drive on Stilt Piers. There are plenty of roads elsewhere and attachable (e.g. SLegWay) or no-wheels (e.g. D-Lab Air Truck) vehicles do operate on piers. Here's the thing. In this virtual world, we have grown to expect that surfaces that appear drivable are actually drivable. This is the case for Houseboat docks and Sakura sidewalks. Even the Victorian Community Center sidewalks are drivable. LDPW has been very good about putting up visual indicators such as steps or bollards to discourage road vehicles, while possibly allowing vehicles such as bicycles and skateboards. However, the Stilt Piers employ mesh-based transparent blockers located on the 90-degree bends. Years ago when my bike hit one, I thought it had to be a bug. In places where a pier intersects a road, there are visual indications that road traffic should not enter. But for the new resident, they see no such indicators when they rez a bike in their new parcel and attempt to go for a bike ride. I would have constructed the piers in a fashion similar to the Houseboat docks. When Linden Lab policy is to allow no vehicles of any type, I would have simply said that on a sign in addition to steps and bollards.
