  1. Exactly. Any company/product that loses a billion a year is both stupid and unsustainable (the context of the quote is "copying" CrapBlox but I also think CrapBlox is stupid). It may be that SL is a niche product that primarily appeals to an older demographic, say 35-ish and beyond. By that time, people begin to notice that their dreams might never be realized. SL gives some respite. I anticipate a steady supply of candidate residents, assuming we don't first figure out how to age-stabilize (is a joke) Since the internet/web was unleashed upon he masses in the mid-90s, a prevailing paradigm has been to (1) create a platform (2) host user-created content - directly or indirectly and (3) monetize - by any means. The closer SL gets to this... the longer it might last. Making content that you think will appeal to residents is a huge gamble. Better to focus on things like infrastructure, user interface and governance.
  2. Returning to the OP, I realize that this is not gonna happen. Sorry to trouble the forum. Wagner James Au sums it up nicely.
  3. (is not joke) Actually, I believe that Linden Lab is ALREADY doing it and it has nothing to do with content as that can be created on small timescales by anyone. All the generation alpha members of my extended family use smart phones and tablets, even the kindygardeners. (None use goggles as of yet) Second Life needs to operate well on the devices that young people currently use.
  4. All I know is what is written in the New World Notes post. The Linden Lab press release that announced the acquisition now returns a "page not found". The NWN post mentions an investment group led by Brad and Randy but claims the official owner as the Waterfield Group. I have searched but not found any source that names any other members of the investment group.
  5. A few things... 1. Are not Generation Alpha, as teens, just like all teens from all times? They embrace new technologies and scare/annoy old folks as expected. 2. Linden Lab is privately held by the Waterfield Group and they do not disclose financials. We have no current facts. 3. Roblox is public, has a depressed stock price, and is on track to loose a billion again this year. They have huge daily use numbers... by children. The top game is Adopt Me which concerns collecting pets. The challenge is perfecting the algorithm to serve up billable games to tweens. I assume they have a churn problem due to puberty. Their primary income source appears to be currency sales and taking a cut from developers.
  6. if you are Premium Plus and the old Linden Home is not currently occupied, you can request it via a support ticket, assuming you do not currently possess another Linden Home on that account and you have tier available
  7. So the great Callyfornia Blizzard of 2024 arrives, the lights go out.... time passes... miraculously the lights come back on.... and this thread has been derailed by TPV talk... ha ha ha! In a small company like Linden Lab, the VP of Engineering is very very important. Linden Lab needs a good one ASAP. The original post concerns communication. Just wanna get an idea of what is going on. That is all.
  8. On the rail connectors, I think the Newbrooke/Chalets rail line is a loop and will not connect to anything else. If the moles plan to complete something later, they tend to leave it unfinished so as not to do rework. Grey Ghost looks very finished to me. I think the Meds will connect to a terminal station in Shobu by a path shown in green below. The key is to look at the railbed on the east border of SSPOtro Gallo. It is heading to the south east.
  9. The immediate remedy will be to simply email a submission to the Destination Guide editors. I posted in the forum because I wondered if others had been down this path before. The current documentation says a parcel can be a Destination if... This particular Linden Home is an art gallery and has previously appeared in the Destination Guide. I have owned this Linden Home since Belli started and have yet to see a neighbor. My experience with art galleries is that big crowds are not an issue 🙂
  10. This used to work. However, when I go to the Destination Guide submission web page, my Linden Home location does not show up on the drop down menu. Of course, one can always email the submission. I double checked that I own the parcel, there is a landing point set (and routed), and the parcel is at least 512sqm.
  11. Likely a ghost map tile.
  12. How about the Abuse Report system? It has a category called "Disturbing the peace > Repetitive spam". Or if it is offensive, "Indecency > Broadly offensive conduct or content"
  13. https://modemworld.me/2024/02/27/linden-lab-departures-mojo-and-styfy-linden/ This does not feel right, given the proximity to the other BIG issue floating around recently. When Oz Linden departed, it went down quite differently. We need some straight talk... now. Preferably from Brad.
  14. Make something as good as Bellisseria and apply. 1. The BBB did not make Bellisseria, Linden Lab did that. 2. I did make something good and it appears to be more popular than passports.
  15. I went and looked. The exhibit I saw has a big sign out front saying "Get Your Second Life Passport Here!!". Some new arrivals might get the idea that one actually needs a Second Life passport. A bit misleading, perhaps? I did not find the exhibit excessively anti-mainlander, rather, I found it "meh". The part of the BBB that is useful to me is the tips on decorating/building. Note that there is also a forum thread on that topic which is very useful to some. I also watched the video and noticed that the BBB has "kind recognition" from Lindens and Moles. Can one apply for that?
  16. I love the way Zali describes things. Always makes me laugh. I just went over to the Community Exhibition region. No exhibits, no avatars. The entrance, where a few exhibits have been created, is not actually in the CE region. There is a partition up that suggests the CE region is not open. It has a sign inviting people to apply for space in the CE region. I did this weeks ago.... crickets.
  17. If your private region does not share a border with and connect to Linden protected water, you do not have access. Your option is to rez you large vessels in mainland or Bellisserria at a Linden water rez zone or one maintained by a resident.
  18. Until now, I have never looked at the Landmarks pull-down in the World Map. For me, it appears to be a bizarre collection of landmarks unrelated to my inventory, containing many duplicates. Not useful. As far as planning trips with vehicles, when I arrived here in 2009 and began sailing, I observed that people used navigation HUDs that set beacons to waypoints, allowing them to travel from (way)point to point along a route that someone had created, usually by using the World Map to give them an SLURL, which they added to a list of SLURLs in a notecard. The notecard is then used to configure the HUD. Over time, I developed a waypoint editing HUD that is configured by actually traveling to each waypoint and clicking the HUD. The waypoint editing HUD then communicates the route to a delivery HUD, used by sailors/aviators/drivers and also can create a (USB) notecard for interoperability with other navigation HUDs. In summary, these navigation HUDs set beacons inworld and red dots on the world map, allowing you to navigate in a vehicle. My (free) navigation HUD is findable via my profile picks.
  19. This route and variations has been used by the Leeward Cruising Club for years due to the amount of open water (good for sailing) , relative lack of orbs and banlines on the shore, and presence of friendly outposts for party venues.
  20. I am describing how to connect 20m protected water in Sansara to 20m protected water in Bellisseria , which also connects Sansara to the Blake Sea and beyond. We already have connectivity from Bellisseria to Sansara for aircraft at Osmium/Iridium/Platinum. Connecting Dunvegan to Chestnut Grove provides no connection to Bellisseria protected water. Bleaberry Tarn is the Holy Grail. Once you get there, there is a protected water channel down the East River to the Sea of Fables and beyond. No additional LDPW activity is needed in Sansara.
  21. Only 19 additional regions now needed to connect Bellisseria protected water to Sansara protected water at Bleaberry Tarn.
  22. We all know the answer (no!). I strongly encourage anyone in this situation to reach out politely to the wall builder and work something out. Linden Lab offers options at different price points for residents who desire to avoid seeing neighboring builds. Because LL is running a business, they are unlikely to use development resources to address issues that have already been resolved, albeit by charging you more. Yup
  23. There is this https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Linden_Lab_Official:Intellectual_Property, however the introduction suggests that this concerns things you might create. Next time someone claims a DJ might get banned for referencing a band name in an announcement, ask for a reference to a Linden Lab policy. Note that LL is not likely to ban you for actions that do not violate RL laws unless they are illegal on the internet, for example, gambling.
  24. So I also considered setting up a sailing area… and submitted an application. The result? Nada, zippo, zilch… in plain language, no reply what so ever.
