Griefing Attack Footage at Second Life
Dante Tucker replied to Steve Beck's topic in Machinima Forum
Prok, Anonymous is "just bored young kids". The only organization is that they happen to hang out on the same forums. Making it seem like any more will just get you stressed out In your particular case, it is probably just some small group of people that don't like you, sitting in their basement making alts over and over thinking they are 1337 hackers because they can use a proxy. Never give them the satisfaction of thinking they are any more then this. -
Illegal not to have pay script in the box?
Dante Tucker replied to Patricia Mattercaster's topic in Merchants
This "Land owner" does not know what he is talking about You can use any method availible to sell items, and are not obligated to include anything. -
Those errors are not that the files are missing, but that windows failed to delete them. (I think ) It's a bit misleading. Second Life could be running, crashed in the background. Have you restarted your computer yet? Try going to C:/Program Files/SecondLifeViewer2/ in your file browser and deleting the whole folder.

How do you place a prim over the voice dot?
Dante Tucker replied to Toxic Menges's question in Creation
Most animations, even the built in ones offset the horizontal position and rotation of your avatar and this will not work. The voice dot follows your avatars physical position, and not it's visible position. Only way I can think of is to use an animation which stops your avatar from moving in this way. Or perhaps instead of an attachment, you could use a follower object rezzed in world. -
The being unable to TP and L not loading issues tell me it is a problem with your connection to Second Life. Try Logging into a different sim. If that fails restart your router and Modem if you have one. If problems persist try calling your ISP to see if there are any local issues. Know problems with SL are posted here http://status.secondlifegrid.net/

How do I make a texture or object 1-D?(Follow the screen)
Dante Tucker replied to thesammy58's question in Creation
Those are called particles. They are generated by a script. Torley has a nice video on getting started with particles here -
Assuming you are on viewer 2, at the login screen go to Me > Preferences. Under Start Location check Show on Login. Now there will be a new box on the login screen where you can select your login location.

The avatars you listed are all part of the "library", a section of the inventory that all residents have. It functions as a sort of getting started kit You can find both those avatars and more in Library > Clothing > (name of the avatar) in your inventory. As for the hair, you can't edit it through Edit Appearance because instead of the built in hair, that avatar uses an object placed on the head. The reason this is done is because it looks better then the built in hair. You can right click on the hair on your head and pick detach to take it off and then wear from the inventory whatever hair you want to replace it with.

Help...my IM's are not being sent to my email
Dante Tucker replied to Pia Panthar's question in Controls
There is a checkbox for this in the client preferences. Make sure it is checked. -
Good spammers never use the same ip. They also tend to make their accounts far in advance of actually using them to spam, making tons and then letting them sit for weeks before they come back and use them to spam. And then by the time you ban them, they already have more accounts just sitting waiting to be used.

In addition to Luc's answer, this can also happen if you have only ever installed cirtain third party clients such as Phoenix and never LL's viewer.

Help for a building noob?
Dante Tucker replied to Mesi Emerald's topic in Building and Texturing Forum
Here is a tip for saving L. Many 3rd party viewers allow you to upload temporary textures for free. These textures work like normal textures except they don't cost anything to upload and stop rendering after about 24 hours. You could use these to test your textures and sculpt maps. Try Phoenix or Imprudence, two of my favorate viewers. -

Changes to Display Names Based on Your Feedback
Dante Tucker commented on Jack.Linden's blog entry in Featured News
The last name Linden being blocked is not a big deal. A search of phone book records shows there are 5334 people with the last name Linden in the United States and Canada combined. Even when you do some best guess math to inflate that to world wide numbers you can see that the chance of it actually inhibiting anyone from using there name on SL is almost non-existent. -
Changes to Display Names Based on Your Feedback
Dante Tucker commented on Jack.Linden's blog entry in Featured News
All great changes, it's good to see the issues being addressed. One thing that worries me is it seems your display name will just be another title with the defaults the way they will be now. I suggest using the alternative coloring method you say you are also investigating instead. -
1. I mean your connection speed to the Internet. DSL is good. 2. "The Service" Means the servers which run Second Life, operated by Linden Lab. Users in countries farther from the servers experience slightly longer connection delays. Though, you are correct that your local network wiring length also has an effect on your connections quality, 15-20m is fine. Over all, you should be great with that setup.

You will be able to use the Second Life service with your connection. Your results may vary depending on things such as connection speed and your distance from the service.

How can I hide the URL and write a phrase for a link here?
Dante Tucker replied to Foobar Merlin's question in Technical
This site does not parse html. You have to use the toolbar buttons (Read Scorpian's post below for a step by step). I was just posting it for reference, in case someone does not know how to make a link in places that do parse html.
