Twice now my Avatar has come out of standing mode (No walking or anything, I was just editing my Ava) and after I started to move Him, he started to walk on his own and through objects. I tried everything to stop him, but there was no way. When he got to the edge of london through walls and at the edge of the sea, I got the message of being logged out of SL, not by me, and there was no way to stop this. This is the second time this particular incident has happened. Hi there Jess and welcome. The reason this strange behaviour happens is because when the viewer loses contact with the secondlife servers it assumes that any movement direction and velocity continues until it can reconnect with the server, and it then corrects itself. If after a certain time it does not receive a communication with the server it will then show the the disconnected message (even though the disconnection probably happenned 10, 20 or more seconds ago). As has been stated the most likely reason is connection difficulties. To figure out where to look I always suggest using another computer and a different connection to see if it makes a difference. Also make sure you go to different regions to see if this affects you there.
  2. The thing is that 3.5.2 is still the latest viewer in the release notes, and although it has the longest list of known issues (tut, tut) that I have seen in a viewer release - being unable to create new accounts is not one of them.
  3. I was about to ask the same question. Viewer 3.5.2.276129 was released three days ago and is the latest viewer in the Supported Viewers List. However viewer 3.5.1.274821 is the latest viewer now being shown on the Downloads page. Sometimes there can be a few hours between the two being kept in step, but not two days. Or maybe 3.5.2 has been withdrawn for some reason. I am having no problem running either version, and get no prompt for an upgrade.
  4. The Experience Permissions system is an expanded and simplified version of our current permissions system. Once a user grants permission to an experience, any object associated with that experience has the permission to control that user. More importantly, these permissions span multiple regions, scripts, and objects. This will allow you to create cross-Second Life experiences with one simple request. That seems to describe exactly what it will do - it may not say exactly how it will do that , but that detail will be coming soon.

  6. As Nalates said it seems like a driver clash problem. Try another driver from Sabrent for your card. Sometime trying an older version fixes the issue.
  7. I sometimes get these problems with the Media plugin failing (search and profiles not working using internal browser), and it only seems to happen to me with the official viewer. It happens about 1 in 5 logins for me so I don't worry about it too much - and I don't know what causes it.

I won't post this site but I have filed a report. What? How should that be possible? At least in my case...I can't imagine how that should be possible just from hacking my Sl account. Anyone who has access to your account will have access to your email address and anything else in your 'Contact Information' on your SL dashboard. So if you use your avatar's account email address for other things outside SL you could be targetted.
  9. Madeline Blackbart wrote: Actually there are viewers with built in measures (AKA sending info toa database) that steal information. Usually thought hese viewers are made for copybotting and other illegal activities and are usually made by people who are griefers. Just to allay any concerns - there are no known copybotting or other 'dodgy stuff' viewers that can steal your password unless YOU YOURSELF use them. Meeting other people inworld who are using these viewers will not help them access your account or your inventory - though they may be able to copy what you are wearing, cause viewer crashes etc.
  10. First of all let me express my sorrow at your sitution - it must be heartbreaking. There is no new exploit to enable this - and I am assuming that you have not used any unusual viewers. Some thoughts: Did you go anywhere inworld that re-directed you to a website recently - often shops or rp regions do that? Especially consider links to a marketplace or secondlife site that asked you to login. Do you know anyone with access to your computer that may want to upset you? As you say that there are pics of your av being used in this way, this suggests to me that it was someone with a personal grudge against you. Maybe you can find some clues from that site - by the sound of things he/she likes to brag about it.
  11. I suggest you try replicating this on both the official LL viewer and a much older one. This should help identify the problem when filing a JIRA.
  12. I suggest you see if another person also has this problem with editing your objects - then you would know if it is related to your gf's permissions, or related to your objects.
  13. That is a good idea - but is not currently available on the standard LL viewer. I do find that ramming down the draw distance works great when switching from 'exploring' to 'clubbing' mode.
  14. Cas Geordie wrote: Thanks for this - but I have been in SL since 2009 on a satellite connection and never had issues like this - has something changed recently? There is always a chance that the NBN service has more latency to keep the cost down (i.e. getting cheap satellite links). It would be best if you could find a friend not on the NBN but with satellite to compare.
  15. TwoIron wrote: Oh excuse me for being uninformed. Silly me, when I spend USD on clothing and the like - you know, the thing that generates the revenue stream for SL? You know that silly little thing? Excuse me for being uninformed but I expect my brand spanking new outfit to look good - not all fuzzy. But you know all that matters is the technical details right? I have no right to expect the software to work, do I? Give me a freaking break... Nalates explained what was happening and gave you the appropriate links. Show me software that works every time in every way as you expect and I will show you a liar. The fact that LL know this is a problem and are addressing it is something we should all be grateful for.
  16. Cas Geordie wrote: I have been having the same issue for the last 2 months. This was about the same time I changed my satellite provider (in Australia) and went onto the NBN satellite service - so naturally I thought that was to blame. I have fiddled around with routers and settings and the problem seems intermittant. Last week I managed to stay in SL for over an hour while I conducted some training (I work for a University that has a presence in SL) - but this week it's back to crashing every ten minutes. Firstly, there is a good chance you will crash out of SL through a disconnect if using a satellite link, SL does not like a lot of latency in the connection. You might try a US-based VPN (there are some free ones available) - this seemed to work better for me when in Australia (I also had problems downloading the viewer without it sometimes). Like you I found that the problem was intermittent and put this down to the amount of routing via cable and satellite a particular connection had.
  17. As a non-American I was puzzled why you were getting at BoA, despite the fact that her career in America bombed out, and pleasingly she has now returned to her roots.

  19. Because the CHUI is now part of the official viewe it makes sense for all bugs to be raised as normal under 'BUG' - otherwise it could become difficult for residents to know what bugs are CHUI related and what bugs relate to other bits. Some bugs to apparently unrelated elements of the viewer were caused by the integration of the CHUI work initially. Of course this means that new CHUI bugs are now hidden to anyone other than the Lindens, the originator, and a few others - a situation that I feel is very limiting.
  20. Note that you can seperate off the Nearby Chat from IMs, or even seperate IMs from each other if you want. It's all in Torley's vid.
  21. Jenni Darkwatch wrote: Hi Cryss... there's really not much you can do. I've tried a few things, maybe one of those help you: * Adjusting the transparency of that monstrous UI: ActiveFloaterTransparency and InactiveFloaterTransparency in debug settings. Just a note that these can be adjusted in Preferences without having to delve into the black arts of debug settings.:smileyhappy:
  22. Whispering Hush wrote: Hi Qui, I spent an hour with it, I could see exactly what they wanted to do, and I didn't want any of it. Interestingly, now that I am using a TPV (catznip) I've found that when I log in my avatar pops into view almost immediately instead of being a cloud for 10 minutes. So really, I'm happy that they've done this. It forced me to look at alternatives, and they were better. As I mentioned earlier I have been using my netbook recently (not the most powerful of machines but ok) - and for that Catznip beats both Firestorm and the official viewer in both performance and rezzing speed with the same settings.
  23. I am using it on a 12" netbook at the moment and once you have tuned it a bit it seems fine, though there are still some oddities and annoying blank spaces on it. No UI change will please everyone - generally I think this is a good change though not perfect.
  24. Please report problems, either technical or functional, with the new chat interface in Viewer 3.5.0 under the CHUIBUG project in the Second Life JIRA. This section of the JIRA is open (so anyone can read/write) and they do take notice of what you write.
  25. Real gaming laptops play Second Life fine - even my 3 year old Dell XPS laptop (with a middle of the road Nvidia 445M) runs it sensationally well. Maybe you should look at your laptop, your connection and other aspects of your setup to see if you can find where there may be a problem. If you have the patience that is.
