I have two kinds of breaks: One from secondlife -where I spend my time in opensim (on my own grid, or osgrid, or whatever). Sometimes I spend time in SL to get a break from opensim too. Two from virtuality -I don't log in to SL, opensim, anywhere (even avoiding fb) instead doing other hobbies (geeky things with linux or emulators mostly) What I don't do enough of and feel guilty for not cultivating...is turning off every last one of the devices and going outside (I live in Alaska. Cold and ice have limited appeal)

Nope: "I'm in Alaska, have fun with that."

Also, I've started building my exhibit for this year...

On the subject of Steampunk being passe or not, I submit (resubmit since I also put this in the music thread :P) this video by Ghost: ...which was just released January 2022. Tobias Forge is very calculating in all aspects of the band and their promotion -so I'm guessing that he knows something the rest of us don't

Yep, and even in the past ...speaking just for myself...part of the appeal of it was thinking of creative ways to push the theme yet still be accepted.

I've never had any problems with that -except for one application I included the word "controversial" in. Lesson learned, there.

My problem is that the crystals theme was so vague that it meant nothing. At that point you might as well just say "eh, fck it build whatever we don't care". I prefer "fck it, build whatever we don't care but if you want a suggestion -steampunk"

Nope @Holocluck Henlypointed out that there's gonna be a run at the AleyMart and he had a valid point...

As I've said elsewhere: In-world, boots on the ground; I'm finding a lot of variety under the "steampunk" label. I'm seeing used as a backdrop for other things (such as readings) to being full-on immersive. The other point I'd like to make is that it is as a theme a suggestion; if you want to make an exhibit about the history of Ancient Egyptian literature or the influence of Buddhism on ancient Gnostic thought I'm sure they'd be perfectly happy to take your exhibit. The diversity is more than skin deep, in my mind. It isn't just the participants that are diverse but to my very casual eye that there seems to be new approaches to expressing what is and is not considered steam and new ways to blend it. I'm excited for this theme and I love it a lot more than some crappy vague theme like "crystals" or whiskey tango foxtrot it was in 2018...

Oh lord the last time I had that happen was years and years and years back -someone offered to buy me an outfit in a display if I agreed to have slex with him. Didn't happen because I demanded the skin, hair and shape as well... 😈

You're not wrong -particularly regarding the Aley run (honestly, folks could do worse so meh). I haven't exhibited in like two years but I'm happy that they were willing to cut me some slack on my build. Also I thought that the theme was more of a suggestion than an actual requirement these days ...making the question of how our builds will fit in moot. I'm totally down for a Weimer build, by the way; or maybe even a Mad King Ludwig steam-ified build. Or heck ...maybe I'll whip up a little OTO something something. You can tell me The Great Beast 666 doesn't fit in with Steampunk, but I'd never believe you... In-world I've been ending up at all sorts of roleplay areas that are different variations on Steam, punk and other...so to me, this is an unusually inspired choice of a theme and I'm excited to build for it (even if my build ends up not being accepted).

FS has a better UI, and it has a lot of niceities you don't get (as far as I know) with the main viewer; gth rezplat dd and friends. I mean a LOT (just the radar alone is worth it).

Came here to say this. Seriously, this was a horrible idea when it was done the first time, it's a horrible idea now.

Never, never but never fall for that. I fell for a bunch of "survey for linden" scams as a noob and never saw a dime from them. I'm glad they're no longer a thing!
