At least the *****ing fundamentals -like Alphas, yes. As a Tonic Body fan since 2017 or so "crushed" is about how I would describe how I feel about it. At this point even unsupported Tonic is still a better choice (than Prima). As far as Slink goes? Never liked the body but I feel bad for her RL issues and I hope she gets to a better place in life soon.

Humans complaining about heights

That's an absolutely horrible take and yes, it is literally text-book transphobia. Trans people are real people, same for gender non-conforming (tomboys, femboys); they're not avatars, they're not fictional unlike your pixels they exist in the real world... Your take is all kinds of absolute fcking yikes, guy. Go back to 4chan.- 223 replies

Can relate; I probably wouldn't be looking very hard at it if it wasn't for the virtualverse vanishing.

I experienced that on Plurk, and twitter's a lot, lot worse on that score. That is one of the reasons I never really got into it, well that and the fact it's crap. Knocking on wood that mastadon is better!

Can I get in on this? @hanheld@mastodon.lol No profile yet, no friends either but hey -I wanna be where the cool kids (ie people who don't spend their days snorting Musk farts) are!

Why is Second Life expensive?
Harper Held replied to Lord Derryth's topic in General Discussion Forum
heh, All I can say to that is that you should have seen it in 2005. Everything that wasn't nailed down was charged for, "lassie faire" libertarianism was the zeitgeist of the day and it was horrifically creepy AF. What we've had for the last ~15 years (since the ponzi schemes were run out -more or less) is nothing, totally small potatoes in comparison. -
When do you realize that there's nothing for you in SL?
Harper Held replied to CaitlinParker's topic in Make Friends
There's nothing for you in SL right now. Take it from me -that changes. I've "flounced" and "logged out forever" enough times to know! I have clinical depression as well and it distorts your perceptions -it also eventually lifts, at least for me. Hang on and learn not to trust it too much. -

I'm smirking at any regular SL user accusing anyone else of being "terminally online". Kettle, pot, black -and yes, that would include me too. -
Second Life New Year's Resolutions for 2023
Harper Held replied to Love Zhaoying's topic in General Discussion Forum
I'm cutting down what I spend on VWs -no more rentals for their own sake. This isn't counting tips and shopping, though; I specifically mean parcels and regions (here and in OS). -
the age of the SL user - I wonder who are the oldest ?

Items I've seen in Opensim and not Second Life
Harper Held replied to Kathlen Onyx's topic in General Discussion Forum
Money is a reason to make an NPC one -IF SL had NPC capabilities (it doesn't). A decent alt costs money -for the head, the body, the clothes and any accessories. That's fine if you're cloning yourself and your own items -it's expensive AF if you have to repeatedly buy them per re-roll. -
Setting a Home location when you own nothing

Setting home to an infohub hasn't worked for a number of years; it was broken when I tried it in 2014 or so. -
Yet Another "what computer" question...
Harper Held replied to Harper Held's topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
I may have misspoken -I went back and got 20fps ...still respectable, but not as impressive. 😢 Still, damned happy though -so far this has handled everything I'm throwin at it really well considering it's an el-cheapo "gaming pc". -

A notch below "ultra" and 60 fps in the toughest sim I know of (Neufreistadt) I'm calling it a success! -
Yet Another "what computer" question...
Harper Held replied to Harper Held's topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
Well, this is what I've gotten -the price is good, and it has an nvidia card. Sometimes life is all about lowered expectations... https://www.bestbuy.com/site/hp-victus-gaming-desktop-intel-core-i3-12100f-8gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1650-512gb-ssd-mica-silver/6504334.p?skuId=6504334 -

Yet Another "what computer" question...
Harper Held replied to Harper Held's topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
File this under "learn something new every day" -obviously your point stands about my budget -but I've just found out it's possible to attach an external GPU to a mini pc. I'm not sure what that means or if it's even viable (same price as a desktop? Same amount of space used? What's the point kinda) but it seems to open up some avenues worth exploring. -
Yet Another "what computer" question...
Harper Held replied to Harper Held's topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
Not a bad idea -prices are coming down so that's definitely on the table -but I'm worried about when I need to replace the whole computer. Thanks! -
The people close to me know the golden rule: "peep not through a keyhole, lest ye be vexed" -meaning that if they snoop through my ***** it's their own damn fault if they don't like what they find. As a result? They don't. My inventory is the last thing I'd be thinking of -the real quandry is how to let my forum and virtual friends know I'm passing on w/out opening my RL friends to potential harassment from online stalkers.

Yet Another "what computer" question...
Harper Held replied to Harper Held's topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
No -but it looks interesting! My impression at first blush is that looks like something I may end up getting later. I'm intrigued that the OS is "arch based", I'll wanna read around and see how easy or not it is to access bash etc -that might make it appealing for 86box. TYVM! -

Yet Another "what computer" question...
Harper Held replied to Harper Held's topic in General Second Life Tech Discussion
misc notes: - I'm wanting an i7 or a very, very recent i5 (a new i5 tends to be faster than an old i7 ...I think?) - I want a minimum 16gb of ram, but prefer 32gb. That might sound fussy but I've found a ton of computers with those specs but...but but but but...gpu is an issue. They tend to have some weird intel gpu or a radeon. Hence my asking about what to look for (so I can tell what's garbage and what's not, or have a general idea). [edit] Based on conversations I've had with folks in the 86Box (emulator) discord, I'm leaning more towards Intel than Ryzen (they tried both and said intel worked better). -
I'm on a budget and would like to keep the price to $600 or below. In an ideal world, $400. That doesn't seem to be too horrible of a problem, except for the GPU. I'm looking around on Amazon and any time I select an "nvidia" gpu the price shoots above my target range. My first first choice may not be do-able -that is to get a mini pc (think: NUC) which is capable of doing virtualization/emulation and second life. Obviously, you can't replace the GPU on those and I'm not sure that there are any with SL-compatible GPUs in my price range. In the end, I'll probably have to settle for another tower desktop -not an all in one (I had an imac, it was a mistake). So the main problem I have, the main question I have is: what do I look for in a GPU? I assume anything NVidia is probably going to be able to do ALM, though for a new computer I want to get something that can run on ultra if that's possible in my price range. My shoot-for-the-moon task list of what i want to do is: 1)be able to shoot machinma with decent graphics (preferably ultra) 2)heavy virtualization -home server kinda stuff (for a casual homelab). 3)PC emulation at reasonable speeds. That's different from virtualization (86box vs virtualbox). 4)run FS comfortably on ultra or as close as possible (I can already do ALM on my 2gb Nvidia GT 730 -but fps drops to single digits). While I am pining for a "mini" it's not a set in stone requirement -the biggest problem is cash (isn't it always?). I appreciate any pointers and advice that y'all can give me -thank you!
