  1. I've just tested that with the LL viewer, and copy-pasting a name from chat works fine, even when there's a bit extra on the end like the colon. Also copy-pasting from a profile works fine. For that I used the large name next to the image at the top of the profile. In both cases, there was formatting to the names. In chat it was linked and coloured, and in the profile it was large and coloured. I didn't change anything about the formatting. I just copied and pasted, and they both worked fine.
  2. Surely the biggest bit north of Mexico speaks the Queen's english, as she is still its Queen, isn't she? Note: In the Queen's english, the word 'jollies' is understood in the way that Willow understands it
  3. Timing does matter in humour (funniness), but Ken Dodd's explanation of what 'funny' is is spot on. He said that it's "warped reality". Think about it. The punchline in a joke, or a funny statement, or an event (e.g. like someone accidentally walking into a lamppost), is the reality of the context, but unexpectedly warped in a way that makes you laugh. Think of any joke, or funny statement, and you'll surely agree. Timing can enhance the funniness, but it's not 'funny'. Warped reality is what 'funny' is.
  4. to which you replied... ... and continued with a lot of stuff about Russian words. But I didn't see where Love referred to, or implied, Russia. Where is it? It's actually 'citizen'. You were mistaken. In films, people are referred to as 'citizen' in France, following the French Revolution. I've no idea if the word (french version) was used like that at the time though. So I assume that Love was thinbking France and not Russia.
  5. As far as I know we can. She only mentioned profanities.
  6. @Zeta Vandyke I'm curious about a few things, Zeta. One is, is 300 the limit for a land's ban list? Another is, why would you expect or need to exceed 300 in a banned list? I'm not suggesting that you didn't ought to exceed 300. I'm just wondering why, that's all. The last is, very roughly, how big a number do you expect to be in the banned list? The reason I ask that is because a mono script can hold less than 600 UUIDs. It can be used as data storage, but it still need a little programming in it, as well as the data, to make use of them, so it could hold significantly less than 600. Multiple data storage scripts can be used, if course, but I'm wondering what your expectation is.
  7. It might have been my doing. The person was being repetitively objectionable by continually resorting to what the mods call 'masked profanity' at anyone who disagrees. Very recently, a mod posted that masking foul language by replacing some letters with dots or whatever is still profanity, and is not acceptable. So, since the person was being very objectionable in that way, I reported the posts where it occured. The first post I reported had the part replaced by a message from the moderator, but there were several more yesterday, and I guess the fact that it was continual tipped it over the edge. I may not have been the only one to report the profanities, but I did report them. Perhaps the thread has been hidden (they can do that) pending it being sanitised. It certainly had plenty of good discussion and information in it.
  8. It's a standard forces expression - not just the navy and not just during WWII.
  9. People, not necessarily in the land-flipping business, used to buy estate parcels for 1L, and even 0L, and try to sell them at a price that was cheap for mainland. It did happen. Maybe it still does. At first thought, the idea isn't a bad one. The big thing though is that everyone on the mainland bought the land. Even in recent times when LL have been selling it off at 0.5L/mtr (auction starting price) and 1L/mtr (to order), land cost people a significant amount when compared to free. To suddenly start giving it away would alienate a lot of people. I don't think the cost of buying land is the problem though. Imo, the problem is the ongoing tier cost, and the cost of a Premium account. I feel that those are what put a lot of people off from owning land, and not the initial cost of the land.
  10. It's obvious that, in SL, the sun, moon and stars are all on crystal spheres, or what ever shape they're on, because the stars are nearer to us than the sun and moon. I remember that from way back.
  11. It wouldn't matter whether or not you wished because you can't enter a region that's full
  12. He's not here to fit in. He's here to be objectionable.
  13. I've never heard it sung without the name of the person whose birthday it is, and it gets sung often. The normal english version includes the name. As someone said, if it's more than one person's birthday, then maybe a specific name is sometimes missing, but it's not the normal english way of singing it.
  14. And don't forget to send me a slice of the 'opening party' cake
  15. Scripts aren't location-specific. They run, and use time, wherever they are in the sim. It's viewable stuff that's location-specific - whether or not they are in range of your view setting. That's why you notice the change in your current place when you go up high. I hope it works for you in the new place. If it were me, I wouldn't be particularly confident, but that's just me
  16. But the OP hasn't done that, or she wouldn't have said... It seems to be pretty clear that she means the other half sim in the sim she's in.
  17. It can't be mainland because the OP is expecting 40 to 60 avatars at her place. @Zeta Vandyke Prokofy is right about the statistics, in that the numbers aren't bad at all. But that's without your expected 40 to 60 avatars showing up. Without them, the numbers (time dilation and such) are slightly below where they should be, but only slightly. And they do fluctuate, so another capture might not show them slightly down. But they are pretty much on the limit without your 40-60 avatars, and I'd expect problems when your avatars come in. In your situation, I'd be thinking along the lines of moving to a sim where the numbers aren't already on the limit. I don't think I'd want to put a load more work into it, in the hope that it'll be ok. I'd rather have confidence about it.
  18. The english version always uses the person's name. Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday dear Coby, Happy birthday to you.
