  1. Though you already know it, here's a reminder for others. ;-) "Similarly, some of the first educators and researchers in SL were a bit clumsy in their approach. There were early incidents in which Residents felt—rightly—that they were being spied upon or treated like guinea pigs rather than human beings. Imagine how you would feel if an entire class of students set up right next to your vacation hideaway, left trash lying around, logged your conversations, and posted them on the Internet with criticism and mean-spirited comments. This is exactly what happened to some early Residents. Things have improved greatly in the years since then, but sometimes SL Residents are still subject to that kind of inconsiderate behavior. For example, a constant stream of researchers (often students) posts on the Second Life official forums requesting that Residents please take their surveys. Most of these surveys include the same questions that have been asked over and over. Often they aren't spell-checked, or refer to SL as a game—a sure way to irritate a substantial number of Residents. Some Residents make a hobby of critiquing these surveys, pointing out how the questions and their wording make it clear that the researcher isn't familiar with Second Life. Some post outright that they are sick of badly planned surveys and suggest that the researchers log in and do their own research. 2. G'morning an G'evening, all! Here's hoping you had a most amazing weekend! Mine was busy.. but I did not take many or even the best piccies. I went to the Nova Albion parade, but I crashed out during it and missed some of the good shots. Also, I did't get very good piccies of this big snail race 'cross the mainland, neither. But at least I got the laundry done. Hope everyone has a super week, an I'll have more piccies next time, I'm sure!

  4. Holocluck Henly wrote: Kudos to Second Life community folks who listened to our request and recognized a need to add this board. You have our gratitude! Yes! Thank you indeed! And.. not to sound like I'm ungrateful... but might we get some sticky topics, like say Nautilus City, Bay City, Blake Sea, Snowlands, and Nova Albion?
  5. For me, its often a question of scale. Mainland is huge in comparison to individual estates. You can head down a road or the tracks and cover region after region. You have huge waterways like the Blake Sea, Dire Strait, Bingo Strait, Degrand Channel, or even the Gulf of Lauren to explore. it's just... space. It's also about exploration and discovery. You can just wander down a road and find new, sometimes amazing things. You can go down a road you've been down 100 times, and see new things all the time. At the same time, it's a part of having a home here. landmarks long present and land that you can practically travel all these years later with your eyes shut. The familiar combined with the new, static *and* radical change. It's also running across other explorers, or ending up with great neighbors, and building new friendships and communities that crop up through the random happenstance that courses through the veins of the mainland.
  6. Why not share some of our fave mainland pix? Here's some of mine... Bay City - Argos (and Bay City Rollers, Bay City - Handa) Achemon (the Zen Gardens of Achemon) Nautilus - Himilco Cowell (Cowell Village) (Edited to add SLURLS)
  7. I think we get to supply the fun. I've got a blurtophone. An I'm not afraid to use it. :smileyhappy:
  8. Bay City! Well, that's my favorite part of my favorite part. I love the Northwestern area of Sansara. Bay City Nova Albion, the suburbs, Gibson, Yamato, Lusk, the vehicle sims, Oak Grove, the Gulf of Lauren, Abbotts, Cowell and Kahrunvel. Yes, even the craziness of the Ahern Welcome Area in the middle of all that.
  9. While many are indeed very foofy, I've had good success with Larnia Kids, Chelsea's Childrens' Clothes, and to a lesser extent Babydoll's Boutique. Typically, I end up shopping their "regular" dressy stuff, rather than the stuff actually though of for flower girls. :-)
  10. You can rez near the New Port Yacht Club in Bay City! Head north out of the club and then west past the channel out into open water. http://slurl.com/secondlife/New%20Port/20/100/24/
  11. DJs: Edward Pearse BennyThe Boozehound Live: Guy Goodman I'd love to know of others, too!
  12. 1. You can typically have multiple vendors, provided the affiliate vendor's owner states otherwise 2. I do not know of any malls that frown on affiliate vendors, but every mall is different. Selling using affiliate vendors as your main business can be somewhat unrewarding: there are any number of places out there selling the same goods from the same affiliate vendors. You would be setting yourself up in competition with all of these -- as well as the original owner's main store, which is likely well advertised. Unless you have some really great location for these vendors, the likelihood of you doing well is slim indeed. TANSTAAFL applies here.
  13. You need to get age verified. The Age Verification form is at https://secondlife.com/my/account/verification.php?
  14. IMO, if it looks like a home, treat it as you would a first life home. Don't wander in without permission.
  15. The should be able to find you via calling card, as outlined below. Alternately, if you are near them, they should be able to choose you from the "Near Me" list.
  16. You can ban any users from your parcel using your estate tools. Right click on the avatar and select "eject," and follow it up by clicking the "Eject and Ban" button. Alternately, you can add their names manually under "About Land" or "Region/Estate," depending on the type of land and land rights you have.
  17. There is a sizable group of avatars working on a fundraising effort. You can join it via http://www.tinyurl.com/pacificfund Alternately, you can also make a box that links to Donation Linden's marketplace pace, urging people to buy the bears. Resident haza Nirvana has a nice one just for that on his parcel in BlueBird. It is free, and does the job well.
  18. Hmm, good question. I know that in Viewer 1 you could remove it while filming, but using the ol' Control-Alt-F1 thing. You might be able to play with the VoiceImageLevel0-6 in your debug settings, perhaps swapping for the UUID of "Default transparent" in you library. I loked around at the other debug settings as well, but was unable to find anything that seemed apt. https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Debug_Settings Let us know how it turns out! :-)
  19. Try doing a character test, as this will usually solve it. In Viewer 2: Develop > Avatar > Character Tests > Test Male/Female. Other viewers have it under Advanced > Character. This should do the trick! Let us know. :-) (After that, you should be able to wear your normal avatar just fine from your inventory or appearance pane)
  20. SploLand usually celebrates Pi Day. Hmm...
