It was one of the few themed communities that LL decide to help by donating land to. And is the oldest cyberpunk city in SL, founded in 3/26/03 or thereabouts when Bonifacio was brought online. As a historical aside, the region name of Gibson was chosen for Nexus Prime not only because of the obvious nod to William F., but because their is a Gibson street in San Francisco. That said it would be historically accurate to keep Gibson, and Nexus Prime, as its own entity. FWIW as well, Morris is named after a San Francisco street, while Rosedale, Kapor, and Smith are named after Philip Rosedale (Philip Linden), Mitch Kapor (Kapor Enterprises), and Jed Smith (Catamout Ventures).
  2. A very outdated, but still cool map that shows the first three continents: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wizzy_gynoid/4071164570/ A somewhat outdated map by Carl Metropolitan. http://www.flickr.com/photos/wizzy_gynoid/4101685043 Jacks Map O' The Gridde: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wizzy_gynoid/4101685041 #4 is Satori. Above *and* alongside Corsica is Gaeta. To the far east of all of these is Zindra In three (or is it four now) locations to the east of these are the Nascera continents. Directly to the southeast of Satori is the teen grid continent, which does not to my knowledge have a formal name.

Are rl teens allowed to use child avatars? Are rl teens allowed to participate in mature or adult groups? I am asking because I have seen people who claim to be rl teens (and certainly seem to be rl teens) doing all of these things in sl. I am also asking because on a few mature lands I frequent, sim owners claim that Linden Labs allowed teens on the main grid because they wanted them to be able to access all the fun stuff on mature lands. Can someone give me some more (hopefully valid) information? What should I do if I see rl teens on mature land that have adult groups (such as gor, bdsm) in their profiles? 1. Teens (who, in the case of Second Life would be 16 or 17 in their first lives) are restricted to General rated land. They may not be on Mature rated or Adult rated land. 2. Teens may use child avatars should they desire to, but are restricted to the same rules of use as anyone using a child avatar. No sexual ageplay, etc. 3. Teens are not allowed to participate in Mature rated or Adult rated groups. All of this is, IMO, spelled out in the Terms of Service and Community Standards. :-) You can, of course, Abuse Report them if you do see a violation of these or any rules.

Exceptions being DaBoom, which they just call The Oldest Region That is not entirely correct. The color regions are so called because their names... are colors. Examples being Plum, Green, Brown, Blue, etc. By contrast, the San Francisco regions - Da Boom (which is a misnomer, as the alleyway in question is De Boom), Clyde, Federal, Dore, etc. - are named after San Francisco streets and alleyways.

    AutoReturn

I don't necessarily think an automated solution is the best solution. That said, I use Auto Return on my own lands, and I highly suggest it to others. In some ways, I wish it was made a simpler part of the viewer, and people were better educated about how it works & will improve their Second Life experience. IMO, nothing works better than educating people about how it can make things that much better for them and their neighbors.

I can guarantee that if you do not file an abuse report, then very little will change. And abuse reports are very simple to file. Right click the offending prim and select "Report Abuse" Select "use snapshot" Put in the prim owners name (alternately, you can use the little arrow and box icon thinger to click the thing and get that filled in for you) Select category (This would at the least be object littering, but given the affect on you and your friends, it may fall under harassment). Fill in the subject and description (for example "griefer object - particle cube" and a short description of th' trouble). Send that sucker. It's not that difficult to file. Now, is it possible that it won't get resolved? Sure, but in my experience, things like this can be. Will it resolved immediately? Maybe Maybe not. Will it get resolved if you don't file? Pretty much, yes. Will griping about it on the forums change things? Not really, nope. I know it's expected to gripe about Linden Lab, particularly governance and support - but if you don't even make an attempt to engage them, how exactly can they know there's a problem that needs fixing? ETA: Good! You have filed. Keep on it!

I'm inclined to consider Bay City West and Bay City part of the same entity (maybe eastside and westside a la Tulsa and Portland (which both contain similar water-based divisions). Wholly agreed.
  10. Let's try this again. First... 1. Luna and Nova Albion Luna (and Coney) made up the LindenWorld amusement park back in 2003. The causeway out of Dore (and the obelisks nearby) are the only remaining markers of this time in situ. Luna became the Luna Oaks Galleria around December 2003. Nova Albion's creation was initially reported by Haney Linden on March 9th, 2004, with Magellan Linden further indicating the discovery of Nova Albion on March 18th. Specifically: "Greetings, During a recent excavation at the Luna Oaks shopping mall I discovered evidence of a lost city beyond the western edge of the known world..." - Magellian Linden Many in Nova Albion include Luna as part of their whole, given that the Nova Albion Trolley services Luna, and due to other geographical features that link Luna to Nova Albion (Most notably, the causeway). You would be correct in including it as part of Nova Albion, or in keeping Luna as a separate entity. Some Residents would presumably prefer the former (and I am one of them), though I note the three month difference between the spaces. (Source: http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/Luna_Oaks and http://secondlife.wikia.com/wiki/Nova_Albion 2. Bay City, initial implementation Opening to the public on May 8th, 2008, with sales shortly thereafter, the initial implementation of Bay City onto the main grid included the 12 Residential regions as well as nine Linden owned regions. These are all part of Estate 1, and is set separately from Estate 0 (the rest of the mainland). Each of these are considered "Bay City," though many might further slice off bits into more exacting terminologies, e;g;, the Cannel, Channel Island, Moose Beach, etc. Nevertheless, each of these are, for all intents and purposes, part of Bay City, and should be labeled as such. 3. Hau Koda The home of the Bay City municipal Airport. It was brought on to replace the initial plans for "Hub Island," which would have been roughly where the Grub Beach region is today. It's "theme' was chose by members of the Bay City Alliance, and it is considered one of Bay City's two infohubs. It opened on June 25th, 2009. (Source: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Bay_City and http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LDPW#Bay_City , amongst others) 4. Gulf of Lauren A separate water area North of Bay City, the Gulf of Lauren was created in November 2008. It is shared by Bay City and the Suburbs. The East side of the waterway blends into the suburbs, with a dock to service them. The Western side has canal ways and other Bay City features. 5. Teen Grid Bay City aka Bay City Westside In May 2008, the Teen Grid gained a carbon copy of the Main Grid's Bay City. It initially had the same contigent of twelve Residential regions, but only eight Linden owned regions (there was no version of Cape Haven there). With the merge of the grids in January of 2011, the Teen Grid Bay City was merged with the Main Grid. With this, a few changes were made. Owens Beach, Blue Channel, and Shannavay were added to fill out the waterway gap between the Gulf of Lauren and the Bay City Westside. Davis Gulf (their analog for Battery Passage) was taken offline. I have designated the additions separate on the map above. As they came online at the same time as the Westside, I am inclined to include them with the Westside, though one could argue it is part of the Gulf of Lauren, or even some other, future body of water. Note that there may be additional waterways in this area in the future, with the possibility of two above the Weston and Oak Bluffs area, as well as the much anticipated Northern Passage around the color regions and up to ANWR. 11. Knowl Paine wrote: The Oldest Regions could have a section, Old World, Is Linden Memorial Park included in Sansara? I have a problem with The Bay of Space Pigs mainly because I purchased land adjacent to it. How about calling it something else? It's the only lake I know of that has the SL Logo on it. What is a space pig? Is it like a spider pig? The oldest regions are the San Francisco regions, followed by the color regions. Linden Lab, a San Francisco-based company who took their name from the San Francisco Alley they started on, named many of the original regions (beginning with Da Boom) after San Francisco alleys in the SOMA area. Linden Memorial Park is on the north coast of the Corsica continent. The Bay of Space Pigs is a play on the "Bay Of Pigs" crises from the early 1960s. Harry Linden (who crashed in the Mohrr region, in the middle of the bay) was also a "space warthog," hence the naming.

I don't know where this is forbidden in the ToS + policies, but setting up shop in an infoHub would not end well. Personally, I really don't think the creator of these things is malicious in asking for a "tip for the driver." Having all those rez areas costs tier, and there's non-trivial effort in scripting and operating the fleet, so I can see the rationale for wanting to let riders show their appreciation with L$s. But it's just wrong to do it on Linden land. This would not be the first SL business plan that turned out to be impractical. Agreed, Qie. Really, I don't feel the creator is malicious. Well-intentioned, surely. Misguided, yes.

I did get some time with my siblings, though. We explored Barney's Bay, which has... A candy store! It also has... So what's not to love! Anyways, I hope everybuggy else's weekend is super. 18. For those interested, particularly those who are in either end of Bay City, the Bay City Alliance (as I mentioned above) is having a garden party mixer event at the Bay City Fairgrounds on 2nd April, 2011, from 1-3 p.m. SLT. BennyThe Boozehound will be spinning big band and swing, and formal, mid-century garb is encouraged (but not required).
  19. Icarus Fallen wrote: It appeared to me in Bino Arbuckle's timeline maps that all of what I've called Shermerville came into existence at the same time ... I think it makes sense to group it together too There's something on the map in Volcano Island which looks like an r - I'll have to move the label I didn't get down to check out the "elements" sims, I just named the region from their theme ... if it's rental sims I could rename it. I'll check out the Linden Village that extends into Hidden Lakes. The boundary I have now is the way Hidden Lakes was when it was released, but if the village extends into it I might redraw the boundary if it makes more sense. Nexus Prime, Darkwood: I wasn't sure about naming an individual sim ... this map is more about multi-sim regions. More to think about. Also, is the Darkwood all Darkwood anymore? I know that Luna Palisades and Owens beach were added with tranches of Bay City, but as the majority of the land in those sims is attached to other regions, I thought it made more sense to redraw the boundaries. Originally, Blumfield and West Haven were standalones, and were next door to the Games 1 region (which is no longer around). Later, the nine regions of Shermerville, based directly on the layout of Blumfield and West Haven, were brought online. They proved to be less than popular, and were eventually contracted to two: Shermerville Central and Shermerville NW. FWIW, here's a shot of Shermerville when it was all nine regions. Talk about "Little Boxes!" For me personally? I live in Shermerville, and also tend to call the area just "Shermerville. but the older Blumfeldians and West Havenites get touchy about that. ;-) The six (did I say 4 before? Oops) rental regions are Ruthenium, Rhodium, Palladium, Osmium, Iridium , and Platnium. Curious that there's the other three "elemental ones" that aren't rental space. As far as I know, DarkWood is all still DarkWood. That said, I don't think there's a stitch of life up there anymore -- so who knows? As to the Bay City boundaries, I know the Nova Albion folks and Bay Citizens are fairly keen on the boundaries. :-)
  20. Baloo Uriza wrote: Marianne McCann wrote: Luna Palisades is a part of Bay City Eastside (which is initially known merely as Bay City), as it was added with the rest of the initial Bay City landmass. Luna Palisades is part of Nova Albion and was added at the time the rest of that city was added, IIRC...the Nova Albion Streetcar goes directly to it. You are thinking of Luna (where the Luna Oaks Galleria is, and which predates Nova Albion (it was one of two sims - Luna and Coney - that made up the LindenWorld amusement park that the causeway out of Dore connected to). I was referring to Luna Palisades, which is south of South Channel, west of Luna, and east of New Port. Luna Palisades was indeed added with Bay City.
  21. Icarus Fallen wrote: Hi, folks! I'm creating a map of the contiguous Sansara continent and need some help with region names. I've divided the draft above based laregly on the different tranches of land released by Linden Labs over time. I've tried to use pre-existing names where I could find them, and to think of suitable names where they don't seem to exist. I'd like some help with names for the south-eastern tranches named after North American lakes, as well as the two bodies of water there. If you know of any names for these regions (or can think of something suitable), please let me know Beautiful work! Couple bug fixes for you: Its South Island and North Islandia, not Islandia North and Islandia South. "Shermerville" is collectively known as "the suburbs," as Blumfield and West Haven actually came to the grid sometime before the Shermerville land mapp. The latter also was once 9 sims, as opposed to the two it is today. It looks like you might have a typo in Volcano Island. Is that an "r" before the "I"? the "Elements" regions includes the mass known as the "Rental Sims" Linden Village also goes into the Hidden Lakes area. Ambleside/Grasmere/Pooleyand a couple others up there are part of Linden Village - in fact, were parts some time before the others. The single region below Nova Albion and the San Francisco sims is "Nexus Prime." The single region above is the "Darkwood" Luna Palisades is a part of Bay City Eastside (which is initially known merely as Bay City), as it was added with the rest of the initial Bay City landmass. Owens Beach-Blue Channel is considered part of the Westside, as it was added when it was.
  22. Deltango Vale wrote: @ Icarus Superb map. The names seem historically accurate. One suggestion, though, is not to overuse the word 'Lakes'. Last Lakes, Further Lakes, More Lakes, L-Shaped Lake etc. You might, for example, wish to call L-shaped lakes Golden Gate (the stretch of water under the Golden Gate Bridge) because it passes the north coast of San Francisco - or not give it any name at all. I like your color scheme. Good work! "L-shaped lake" is what it is called. Many names were suggested for it at LDPW office hours, but none of them seemed to stick.
  23. WolfBaginski Bearsfoot wrote: It really is pure accident that I found out about the westward extension of Bay City. It's not the forums which get a mention on the Dashboard page, not like in the old days, and it's not like in the old days when Michael Linden posted on new things such as this. This new interface, and the new patterns of sub-forums, aren't helping me judge this, but it looks as if you Linden guys need to do a much better job of telling us about things, Ya, sadly there isn't a Linden office hour for land now, or for LDPW, etc. Which is a real shame, iMO. The Bay City Westside is the former Teen Grid Bay City, now joined up with the initial Main Grid version.
  24. Pulling this from the "Those cars on the mainland roads. Grrrrrrr." thread into its own topic. Route 50 badging is a confusing thing, with this map on the Second Life wiki showing it starting north on Route 66 and ending as soon as it enters Shermerville Central. Yet, as Baloo Uriza wisely pointed out on the other thread: "SL 50 could use some consistent signage once it enters Shermerville...it splits into 50N and 50S, both running perpendicular to the 50 that runs into 66, without so much as a hint of signage." So... anyone have any ideas on the proper route? *is* there a proper route (I suspect no)?
