  1. Nope. Or ... yes, but not if you want to completely clear cache. Doing it with the "clear cache" button in Preferences doesn't wipe the roaming files. The only way to get at those is to use the "manual" procedure I pointed you to. And the only way to clear your personal settings, as I described in my last note, is to use the procedure that I referenced there. Personal settings are not wiped out even if you reinstall your entire viewer, so if they are borked the new installation will be too. Each of those sets of instructions are about as clear as they can possibly be. If you;re having trouble following them, find a friend.
  2. Try logging in somewhere else and then either teleporting to your home or to a neighboring sim. If the sim is on line and you haven't been blacklisted by the sim owner, that ought to work.
  3. It has nothing to do with your browser, so you can use IE, Chrome, Firefox, or whatever. You aren't even using the browser to do this. Manually clearing cache almost always takes care of a VFS problem. If it didn't work for you, it's time to clear your personal settings. See >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_clearing_settings
  4. Too many things to count, but don't get discouraged. You are just getting started. Take a look at any of the basic LSL tutorials at https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LSL_Tutorial to get a feel for the way that events are stuctured. Meanwhile, here's a door script that works very well >>>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/LSL-Library/Simple-Hinge-Action/td-p/875331 . It's one of the simpelst and most widely-used ones in SL. Study it carefully, take it apart and modify it if you wish, and have fun. As you get more scripting questions, feel free to post them in the LSL scripting forum. That's a place speciifically designed for scripters who are learning or have insights to share.
  5. Clear your cache manually from outside SL >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_cache_clear . Thos instructions are written for Firestorm users, but the process is exactly the same for any viewer.
  6. That's between you, your family member, and PayPal. As far as Linden Lab is concerned, they just want to know a legitimate PayPal account that they can disburse money to when you process a credit request from your USD balance. However, PayPal may have serious worries about it, and your family member should. It's never wise to use someone else's account for handling money. There are too many chances for bad feelings (or worse) if a transaction goes bad. It's one thing to lose money in your own account if you screw up somehow, but you'll never hear the end of it if you screw up in someone else's account. It is very easy to get your own PayPal account. Please do it instead.
  7. I'm afraid you have little choice but to contact each merchant. You can try placing a support ticket, using the heading "Marketplace" from the pulldown menu, but I suspect that will be slower than contacting the merchants directly. Marketplace is just a virtual mall. It provides storefront space for independent merchants and collects money for sales on their behalf (for a 5% fee), but all sales and deliveries are handled ultimately through the merchants. For future reference, it is generally not a good idea to use the shopping cart when you want to buy more than 3 or 4 items. I know that's counterintuitive, but the shopping cart is very easily confused. When you put too many items in it, that greatly increases the chance of non-delivery. It's wiser to use the "Buy Now" button and have things delivered individually, or to purchase in world.
  8. Who cares? There are loads of very good reasons for having more than one account, and very few of them are anyone's business but the account holder's. I use my alt mostly for testing objects that I create or script, but she's also very handy when I just want to work in peace and quiet without all my friends knowing that I'm in world. And NOBODY can find out who she is without asking me.
  9. It all depends on how the animal was designed and whether you have permission (and a way) to change it. The animal's fur is almost certainly not all the same color, because that would make it look flat and boring -- like a kid's crayon drawing of an animal. It has subtle variations in color to suggest shading and highlights, and to give it a feeling of depth. If the designer intended you to change the color, s/he probably provided a texture-changing script that substitutes fur that was created with one color range for fur created with another one. Or maybe that was an option in the shop where you bought it. You might still be able to do a cheap job of re-tinting the fur yourself if you have copy/mod permission and if the original color wasn't very dark. It can't hurt to try. Make a backup copy first. Then select the entire animal with your Build/Edit tool and go to its Texture tab. Click on the Color window and apply a new color to the animal. Mess with the color picker and its tone slider until you get what you want. It won't be a professional job, but it may look OK if you aren't trying to make a drastic change.
  10. You are the victim of a rather simple push and some particle flames. You can turn off the flames with CTRL + Alt + Shift + = (which turns off ALL particles until you do it again). The easiest thing to do is find another sandbox. There's no reason why you have to stay there and take abuse. If you can identify your tormentor, you can file an Abuse Report from your own Sl viewer. Just click Help >> Report Abuse and follow the instructions. Include as much factual detail as you can. A photo is helpful, especially if it includes the griefer himself. The worst thing you can do is retaliate. Griefers love to provoke a revenge attack because, of course, that's a TOS violation and they can file an AR on you.
  11. Quality isn't cheap and it takes time and talent to produce. Try hiring anyone to write a program for you in RL for $40. My guess is that you won't attract many good scripters by looking in a price range where you think the work sucks.
  12. Contact the merchant who sold it to you and explain the situation. Be sure to copy the details of your purchase from your Transaction History so that the merchant knows that you are not trying some sort of a scam. Most are quite understanding and will be willing to replace your loss.
  13. That's a communication problem between your computer and SL's servers. Information about your appearance has to be "baked" onto your avatar on your own computer, saved there, and then uploaded to SL before it's fully visible there. If the necessary information is messed up in transmission, you may end up with a borked file on your computer, or SL's servers may end up with a borked file. Either way, your av's appearance defaults to a fluffy cloud. What works to repair the damage for one person won't necessarily work for the next person, and it may not be the same thing that works for you tomorrow. See the full list of possibilitites here >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_bake_fail . Start with the simple things at the top of the list and work down until you find what works for you today. You may find that the bake fail problem comes back repeatedly, even after you fix it with one of the suggestions on that wiki page. If so, you have a chronically weak Internet connection. There are many steps to take for repairing it. Perhaps the simplest ones -- ones that work best for most people -- are: (1) Don't Use WIRELESS. Wireless connections are inherently less stable than direct cable connections and are more vulnerable to interference. Then, (2) Reboot your router. Unplug it from the power for a few minutes to let it clear its RAM. The plug it back in and let it get a fresh hold on an IP address.
  14. Did you file an Abuse Report? Did you contact the sim owner or manager?
  15. Try using a different browser. That often works. Then, avoid using the shopping cart in the future. It has a habit of jamming and causing mis-deliveries anyway.
  16. Check to see whether you have a firewall blocking access to slplugin.exe .. See >> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_media?s[]=plugin and http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Using-Second-Life-with-a-firewall/ta-p/1304539
  17. There's nothing to be gained by complaining here. We are all SL residents like you, not Lindens. Your computer ought to be able to handle SL I have been using the same NVidia GeForce 9600 graphics card in a computer with about the same amount of memory that yours has, and I have no trouble at all. Do not try to run your viewer with Preferences >> Graphics quality set to Ultra, and do not use shadows. Keep your draw distance at about 128m or less. See other suggestions about lag here >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_very_laggy If you are having trouble with the current V3 viewer, you can always install a previous version and use it instead. Just be sure to disable the Automatic Updates feature in Preferences >> General so that you don't have it replaced as newer versions are available. You might also consider using one of the Third Party Viewers, some of which may treat your computer more gently. >>> https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory Graphics cards will generate a lot of heat when you are using a SL viewer, so be sure to have good ventilation -- several fans and hear sinks -- and keep dust out of your computer. Heat can destroy expensive components in your computer and will certainly decrease its performance unless you are careful.
  18. Anyone who really wants to make one of those idiot titlers with that "awesome" feature can do it with llTextBox. There's no magic to it.
  19. I doubt that it's anything as simple as this, but try toggling the render tests for grass and water off and on again. The toggle for water is CTRL + Alt + Shift + 7 and the one for grass is CTRL + Alt + Shift + 0.
  20. Duplicate post. Original at http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Viewers/Grass-and-Water-not-rendering/qaq-p/1414129
  21. It's not an error. It's just telling you to turn your translator off in Preferences. Since Google pulled the plug back in December, the built-in translators in SL will only work if you are using the current version of V3 or Firestorm and can provide an account number for Googles ($$$) translation service or Bing's (free!!) one. Or you can look for a new translator in Marketplace or in-world. Metanomics is getting good recommendations.
  22. If you have been using more than one viewer, you may have scrambled some of the cached files that they build on your computer. Even if you have only been using on viewer, your cache may be borked. Try clearing it manually from outside SL >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/fs_cache_clear Those instuctions are writen for Firestorm users, but will work for any viewer if you make only a few obvious small changes in the file names it refers to.

  24. Hehehe.... I'm not sure why Monti wrote "Rolig post contact merchant," but if all you want is a simple landmark giver, take this .... default{ touch_start(integer num) { llGiveInventory(llDetectedKey(0), llGetInventoryName(INVENTORY_LANDMARK,0)); } changed(integer change) { if (change & CHANGED_INVENTORY) { llResetScript(); } } } Put that and one of your landmarks in a decorative-looking prim and you've got a LM giver. EDIT: Added a changed event to make it foolproof. :smileywink:
  25. I agree with Irene .... I woul be very helpful if you had told us what the error message was. It would also be helpful to know what sort of computer you are using, and what graphics card it is using. You can add that information by clicking on the Options link in your question and selecting EDIT. Please do NOT start yet another thread. The viewer that existed 3 years ago was 1.23 or perhaps an even older version of v1. It used much less of your machine's resources than modern viewers do. If you are still using the machine that you had then and it was barely adequate, it probably can't handle the current viewer. (My 5-year old laptop certainly can't.) Try using the Imprudence viewer or Singularity, either of which should put less load on your computer.
