  1. That's a communication problem between your computer and SL's servers, and it's very common. Information about your appearance has to be "baked" onto your avatar on your own computer, saved there, and then uploaded to SL before it's fully visible there. If the necessary information is messed up in transmission, you may end up with a borked file on your computer, or SL's servers may end up with a borked file. Either way, your av's appearance defaults to a fluffy cloud. Sometimes you might appear as a white egg or spot. Sometimes you seem to rez but have random textures all over your body. What works to repair the damage for one person won't necessarily work for the next person, and it may not be the same thing that works for you tomorrow. See the full list of possibilitites here >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_bake_fail . Start with the simple things at the top of the list and work down until you find what works for you today. You may find that the bake fail problem comes back repeatedly, even after you fix it with one of the suggestions on that wiki page. If so, you have a chronically weak Internet connection. There are many steps to take for repairing it. Perhaps the simplest ones -- ones that work best for most people -- are: (1) Don't Use WIRELESS. Wireless connections are inherently less stable than direct cable connections and are more vulnerable to interference. Then, (2) Reboot your router. Unplug it from the power for a few minutes to let it clear its RAM. The plug it back in and let it get a fresh hold on an IP address.
  2. In order to play Flash format videos (eg YouTube videos), you must have the generic Adobe Flash plugin installed. If you use IE as your web browser and already have Flash, you will need to get the generic Flash plugin; see here. linux users need to have gstreamer installed, with the “bad” plugin set.
  3. PERMISSION_TRIGGER_ANIMATION is permission to trigger any animation, not a particular one. Read all of the caveats at https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlRequestPermissions. Once you request and get permission, that permission persists across state changes and until it is either revoked or replaced by a later request. You can start and stop as many animations as you like once you have permission. If you are ever worried about whether permission may have been revoked (as might happen, say, if the avatar stood up from a dance ball), then all you need to do is test with llGetPermissions. if( !(llGetPermissions() & PERMISSION_TRIGGER_ANIMATION) ){ llRequestPermissions(llAvatarOnSitTarget(),PERMISSION_TRIGGER_ANIMATION);}

  5. The only way you'll get this one sorted out is to call the LL billing office. The billing team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Toll-Free (US/Canada) 800.294.1067 Long-Distance 703.286.6277 Local Toll-Free numbers * France: 0805.101.490 * Germany: 0800.664.5510 * Japan: 0066.33.132.830 * Portugal: 800.814.450 * Spain: 800.300.560 * UK: 0800.048.4646 * Support is in English Only
  6. If it really is a group tag problem ( https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-6608? ) and you are the group's owner, the easiest way to resolve it is to contact Live Chat and ask them to remove you from the group. It would be handy if your alt was a co-owner (if she wasn't wearing the tag when she logged out), because then she could simply invite you back into the group as a co-owner once she has changed the offending tag. If that's not the case, LL may need to disband the group because it won't have an owner when you leave it. If you aren't a Premium member, so you don't have access to Live Chat, you might consider becoming one. Even if it's just for a short time, it may be worth it to get this issue resolved.
  7. Hi, Breshia! Welcome to Second Life. You'll find answers to many of your questions in the Knowledge Base, so I'm going to point you there to get you in the habit of looking. Start with this article, which addresses you questions about finding and getting into your boxed purchases >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Opening-boxes/ta-p/700185. Then take a look at this one, which deals with how to wear clothes (I know, that sounds silly) >>> http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Editing-your-appearance/ta-p/700709 You'll find answers in the KB to lots of questions that haven't occured to you yet. Try typing a keyword into the search bar to see what comes up. If you can't find exactly what you're looking for, or it's confusing, feel free to come back here to Answers.
  8. If you have cancelled your account, you may be able to restore it, depending on how long ago it was cancelled. There is a US$9.95 reactivation fee for restoring an account. Warning: Even if your account is restored, the associated inventory, land, and Linden dollar balance may be unrecoverable. To start the process: Open a support case. Under What type of problem are you having? choose Account Issue. Choose Reactivate an old account. Enter the required information Click Submit.
  9. Linden Dollars are not money. As LL reminds us, they are "tokens" for in-world exchange. That's a bit disingenuous, of course, because we use L$ as if they were money. The bottom line, though, is that LL knows that they aren't, and they won't accept them as payment for RL debts -- like land fees. You have to sell them first. THEN you can buy land or pay land fees from your USD balance.

That was a good idea. I do the same thing with a new environment. Don't worry too much about your experiment yet. It can sometimes take anywhere from a few minutes to a day or more for your items to be delivered, especially if the merchant's Magic Box is temporarily out of service or the sim it's on is offline. (The Magic Box is a delivery device that is responsible for receiving the order from Marketplace and filling it. It's kinda clunky. ) Not that it helps now, but to remember for the future: (1) Don't overuse the shopping cart. It is easily confused if you put more than a couple of things in it. (2) Don't buy things from Marketplace (especially LOTS of things) unless you are in world to receive them at the time. We each have an "in box" that holds IMs, notecards, group notices, group invitations, and anything that is delivered to us if we aren't in world at the time. That "in box" can only hold 25 things, total. If anything else comes in, it isn't saved. It is gone ... poof .... forever. If you have a mess of things delivered from Marketplace and half your friends send you notecards, that in box will be capped and you will never know what happened. So, what do you do now? ....... To get a record of the individual items in your order, open Marketplace and click the My Marketplace menu at the top of the page. Select My Account >> Order History from the pulldown menu. If you do not receive items within about 24 hours, you should cut and paste the information about a missing item from that Order History and send it in a IM or notecard to the merchant, along with a polite message requesting redelivery. Most merchants are very kind and willing to redeliver. This happens all the time and they are aware of it. Do be patient, though. Not everyone logs in to SL every day or checks their e-mail. If you still haven't heard in another day or two, follow it up with a second polite note and finally, if you STILL haven't heard, file a support ticket at https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ , selecting Marketplace from the pulldown menu.
  11. Pandora Fireguard wrote: i call them system clothes. i like making them but have a problem with the system skirt. As i move, my legs come through the skirt as if it is slit in the front and the back. Maybe I will post this as an issue. Yeah, that's one of the less attractive features of system skirts, especially the tight ones. You can look really goofy dancing in them or walking with an anim that has a long stride. (System skirts also give you a big butt, which you can get rid of only by downsizing your av's butt temporarily if you remember.) I have several very attractive system skirts, though, and not just ones that I have made. When I was a newbie, I bought a very lovely (and very sexy) system dress from Nicky Ree that I still wear a lot. It is just tight enough to accentuate my walk, but not enough to create that slit effect. It's virtually impossible to make a prim skirt or a sculpty or mesh one that follows me the way that one does.
  12. There's nothing wrong with using temp_on_rez to create an object that you want to self-destruct in a minute or so. It doesn't take any more of the servers' attention to rez one temporary prim than to rez one permanent one. The real problem is that some people use temp_on_rez as a way to get around a parcel's prim limits. The maximum number of temporary prims you can create is = regular_prim_limit - current_regular_prims + minimum(0.5 * regular_prim_limit + 400, 1000). It's therefore possible to use a temp rezzer to keep rezzing the same objects over and over and over again, effectively increasing the number of prims on your parcel beyond your allowance. That really does put a strain on the servers because they are constantly working to keep those temprary prims alive, and it cheats everyone else on the sim. That's what's not nice about temporary prims, and it's why many sim owners outlaw temp rezzers. Advantages of using temporary prims: 1. No extra scripting is needed. You don't need to deal with a timer and llDie to get rid of the prim. 2. If you sit on a temporary prim, it doesn't die until you stand up --- that's pretty cool. Disadvantages (aside from what I just described): 1. You can't adjust the lifetime of the prim, or even predict it exactly. 2. Temp prims are a nuisance to deal with if you have to debug a script in one. They poof on you at awkward times.
  13. See https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlCreateLink and https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlBreakLink . You shouldn;t need to change links for the project you have in mind, though. Just create door prims on the two sides of your box and write the script to activate whichever one is touched.

  17. You'll probably have to call and ask the Linden Lab billing office if that is possible. The billing team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Toll-Free (US/Canada) 800.294.1067 Long-Distance 703.286.6277 Local Toll-Free numbers * France: 0805.101.490 * Germany: 0800.664.5510 * Japan: 0066.33.132.830 * Portugal: 800.814.450 * Spain: 800.300.560 * UK: 0800.048.4646 * Support is in English Only
  18. $35 or L$35 ? There's a huge difference. L$35 is about 15 cents, which is hardly worth getting excited about. If you joined a group that divides its liabilities and profits among group members, as many do, then it's not uncommon to be charged a few pennies every couple of weeks. Check the Account >> Transaction History on your dashboard at secondlife.com to see exactly where your L$ are going. If you are paying a share of liabilities for some group and do not want to continue, leave the gropup or ask the group's owner politely for an adjustment. ETA: See http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Creating-managing-moderating-and-disbanding-groups/ta-p/700111#Section_.7 for more information about group liabilities
  19. That's because you can't run the standard viewer on an iPad. You can get a mobile viewer to work (see https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory for a list), but you won;t have any graphics. Those viewers are text-only, designed for people who need to be able to check IMs, sort inventory, and do other maintenance when they are away from their own computers. You can chat with people in world, but not see them or anything else.
  20. That has nothing to do with griefing, and the people in the Help Island were right ... Take your translator off. It's in Preferences >> Chat. The internal translators in all viewers were disabled in December when Google pulled the plug on its free Translation API. That message is just telling you that you are trying to use a translator that was disabled. So turn it off. If you really want to use a translator, you have to get the current version of V3 or Firestorm and enter an account number for a PAID subscription to Google's translation service or for a FREE subscription to Bing's service. You could also buy a translator in world or in Marketplace. The Metanomics translator has been getting good reviews, for example.
  21. I think it is very unlikely that you can get your money back. As far as I can see, there is no person named 1236 Coy in SL. As I said earlier, that means that he either canceled his account or was banned by LL. If he has your L$, there is no way to get it back and Linden Lab isn't going to just give you L$10,000. After all, if this happened in RL, you wouldn't expect the police to give you money just because a robber stole yours, would you?
  22. Assuming that your variables USER_SENSOR_CH, RES_1 and RES_2 are global and have been given values, it ought to work. However, you probably want to have a companion no_sensor event that sets gOwnerStatus = ABSENT and sends that message to your listening scripts. After all, the sensor event will only be triggered if the script detects someone. If there's nobody there to detect, your script won't send any message at all. You also might want to consider using llRegionSay or llRegionSayTo instead of llShout, but that's a nuance that shouldn't affect how this part of the script behaves.
  23. Yay Valerie! You saved me from cutting and pasting that message AGAIN. :smileyfrustrated: (Are we up to 500 times yet? I have lost count, but I swear it feels like 500.)
  24. You download and use the Firestorm viewer, which has a Z correction. If you already have Firestorm, click the Quick Preference button on the lower task bar and fiddle with the Z Offset slider to get your feet on the ground. It's very handy.
  25. Yeah, it's a very keen function. That example I pointed to in my earlier reply is a good illustration of how to use KFM to turn a corner smoothly. The effect is sort of like what you used to have to do (with much more code) in something like the Smooth Rotating Door Script that Toy Wylie put in the LSL Script Library a couple of years ago. Essentially, it lets you dissect your rotation into a series of smaller steps that are then pieced together to make a command list for llSetKeyframedMotion . The advantage of doing that is that your rotating object is always heading toward intermediate points along the curve instead of aiming for the end point all the way. It makes for a much more realistic-looking motion. The example is written for rotating a box lid around its Y-axis, but with just a little creative finagling you can get it to rotate around Z and include an offset at each step, as you would if you were keeping a train on its tracks.
