  1. You could write the relatively simple script for making a lucky chair and then apply your own texture to a self-made lucky chair, but it's much easier to just buy one. Go to Marketplace and type "lucky chair": in the search field.
  2. When you get JASS2, it includes the proper version of Blender as part of the package, along with Primstar and the correct version of Python. You might already have the right versions of one or more of those, but with JASS2, you can be sure that you do. The installation routine installs everything, so all you have to do is start working. You can get the free version of JASS2, which has all of that functionality, but I recommend the "Pro" version. It's not really very pricey and it it's necessary if you are planning on making oblong sculpts.
  3. We cannot do a thing, Nanicolas. We are all SL residents like you, so all we have to offer is advice. You have asked the same question many times, and we have given you all our advice. We have no more magic. As Angel says, you should file a support ticket or (if you are a Premium member) contact Live Chat. Please do NOT start yet another thread here.
  4. There are a few third party viewers that offer limited -- text-only-- access to SL, but no mobile device can handle the graphics that you need for seeing anything in world. You'll be able to send and receive IMs, manage inventory, and do things like that, though. See what's available at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory
  5. SL does a lot of wierd things, but doesn't usually eat shoes. The most likely answer is that the locally cached copy of your inventory -- the one that resides on your own hard drive -- has been corrupted. That's usually the result of a bad Internet connection. When it happens, your cached copy gets out of sync with the "real" inventory on SL's asset servers and things appear to be llost. The way to recover them is to clear your cache (in Preferences >> Network). When you log back in, log in to a nice quiet sim like Pooley or Aqua. Open your inventory and type any letter in the search field to jump start the rebuilding process. Then go out for coffee. Don't do anything else until your inventory has finished rebuilding (when it stops saying "fetching."). Your rebuilt inventory should have everything that has been in the asset servers all along. That process works in maybe 90% of the time. If it doesn;t work for you, donb;t panic. Take a look at http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Lost_inventory for other suggestions.
  6. Please accept my apology in advance for giving you the same cut & paste answer that I posted in response to an identical question here a half hour ago...... That's a communication problem between your computer and SL's servers. Information about your appearance has to be "baked" onto your avatar on your own computer, saved there, and then uploaded to SL before it's fully visible there. If the necessary information is messed up in transmission, you may end up with a borked file on your computer, or SL's servers may end up with a borked file. Either way, your av's appearance defaults to a fluffy cloud. What works to repair the damage for one person won't necessarily work for the next person, and it may not be the same thing that works for you tomorrow. See the full list of possibilitites here >>> http://wiki.phoenixviewer.com/doku.php?id=fs_bake_fail . Start with the simple things at the top of the list and work down until you find what works for you today. You may find that the bake fail problem comes back repeatedly, even after you fix it with one of the suggestions on that wiki page. If so, you have a chronically weak Internet connection. There are many steps to take for repairing it. Perhaps the simplest ones -- ones that work best for most people -- are: (1) Don't Use WIRELESS. Wireless connections are inherently less stable than direct cable connections and are more vulnerable to interference. Then, (2) Reboot your router. Unplug it from the power for a few minutes to let it clear its RAM. Then plug it back in and let it get a fresh hold on an IP address.
  7. Thanks, Innula. I knew that you recommended a good one recently, but I couldn't find the thread to save my life. I'll have to go get the Q-Translator myself.
  8. Download the latest graphics driver from the chipset manufacturer (ATI, Nvidia, or Intel), not the maker of your graphics card or computer. Save the file where you can easily find it, but do not install it yet. Run Windows Update and make sure your system is fully patched. Reboot your computer and enter Safe Mode by pressing F8 at the Windows logo screen. Uninstall your old video driver. On Windows XP use Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager (steps will be different on other operating systems). Then open Display Adapters, right-click and choose Uninstall. Reboot your computer. If Windows displays a message that it found new hardware, do not let it automatically install drivers. Instead, run the installation program that you downloaded in step 1. Reboot your computer You should now have a clean version of your video driver.

He's awesome and well.. everyone knows Tommy (ok I haven't met him but I've been 3 feet away and smiled, he smiled back! 8^0 \o/ I have met Phil - his brother - just as good a player). Definitely cool, Maryanne. I bought my first Leo Kottke album (the armadillo) as an LP, back in the dark ages. I was hooked right away. I've been to one live performance, but was not close to enough to smile and be smiled upon. At least I was here, though, and it was amazing I discovered Tommy Emmanuel much later and have only heard him on CDs, so no smiles there either. He is one fantastic guitarist, though.
  11. You have a few choices. Google used to offer its Translate API as a free service, but they pulled the plug on that option in December. Because most of the translators in SL depended on it, they are now disabled. However .... 1. If you have a current version of Linden Lab's "official" V3 viewer, or have one of the latest versions of Firestorm, you can still use the Google API if you subscribe to their paid service. All you have to do is enter your account number in the appropriate spot in Preferences >> Chat. 2. You can do the same thing with Bing's free translation service. You do have to get a Bing account number and enter it the same way you would enter a Google subscription number. 3. There are a few translators sold in world that don't depend on any of those services. Because it's not always clear whether a specific one was written to use the Google system (and is therefore non-functional today), I think it would be wise to favor ones that let you try a demo before buying.

Please theorize a little. I think PudgyPaddy is going to. I'm sure it's no fun to theorize alone. I don't think this calls for anything as profound as a theory. but I will go halfway and offer a hypothesis. I have had to create status reports too many times to mention, and they are no fun. My hypothesis is that whoever is responsible for preparing the report for LL has found a much better way to spend his time, and is off doing it. Some trainee will end up Xeroxing the last report, fudging a few numbers, and filing it instead.
  13. Five questions. You can answer as yourself or as your avatar. Just please specify which one you mean. 1. Describe yourself in two words? Getting older (RL); Not me :smileyhappy:(SL) 2. What surprised you last? A semi passing me on the right (RL); I am rarely surprised (SL) 3. What is your current favorite song or album - one you are obsessing over? Anything Leo Kottke or Tommy Emmanuel play (RL); I tune out most of it (SL) 4. What is your mood or feeling today? Still half awake (Coffee please!) (RL); Can't get in world while I'm out of town :smileysad: (SL) (Or for you NT types, if you prefer: What is most occupying your thoughts?) 5. What do you most hope for this year? Next year (RL); A new computer would be nice (SL).
  14. I haven't noticed any slowdowns at all, but I never use the "official" viewers. Looking back over the past 5 years, I have to say that my performance has only improved with time. I am on the most current Firestorm, using XP with a GeForce GT9600 card, admittedly not the fastest, most modern system, but it serves me very well. I'm routinely getting 50 to 75 FPS and never having any packet loss on a 5 Mbps Internet connection. My alt and I can buld and test scripts together for hours with no difficulty, and we almost never have TP trouble. I travel light (wearing no more than 10 - 12 scripts, for a total load of less than 500Kb), and I don't spend much time in heavy traffic areas. Super-crowded sims have always been slow, but sIms like yours, Pam, give me no trouble at all.
  15. Yeah, and my pesky early-morning eyeballs not spotting it. I need a cup of coffee.
  17. Take Irene's advice, just above your own note. Read the first post in the thread. :smileytongue::smileyvery-happy:
  18. The very good article that Irene pointed out tells youhow to let other people edit your items. You asked about letting others edit items in your INVENTORY, however, and nobody can do that. Your inventory is a list of everything that you have stored in the asset servers. No one has access to those things but you. If you want to let people edit one of your items, it has to be rezzed in world first, or it has to be transferred or copied to their inventory. If it's rezzed in world, then you can follow the instructions that Irene showed you.
  19. This is NOT a good idea. Render Unloaded Avatar does exactly what it says. It renders your avatar, even though it is not loaded well enough to be properly rendered. Instead of being a cloud or an egg, you will be rendered as Ruth, a pasty-looking, proto-Avatar. That's what we all used to look like in the days before LL invented fluffy clouds and eggs. It is bot much of an improvement. Ignore the Render Unloaded Avatar advice and stick with the bake fail advice on the wiki page referenced above.
  20. It's either that or the Pepto-Bismol. My bet is on the ATI drivers. Updating them has worked for everyone else. Latest driver Last checked Feb 6th- Windows and Linux: 12.1 (Jan 25)
  21. You can always tell which server you are connected to at any given time by opening your Help >About .. menu. That display will identify the server for the sim you are in at the moment. You should normally expect FPS to be at least 15-20. My own is usually in the range between 50 and 75, but it really depends on how busy the sim I am in happens to be, and how much care its developers have taken to minimize the use of large textures and physical objects. Unlike games you may be used to on line, SL's content is almost entirely created by amateurs, so is not optimized for loading speed. Also unlike most games, much of SL's content is stored in its servers and downloaded on demand to clients. There's continuous data exchange between clients and servers. That yields a highly flexible user-designed environment at the cost of speed. It's what you bargain for when you join SL. When FPS is below its normal range, it'susually due to something on your own end. It's either due to hardware that is inadequate for SL (the main culprits are routers and graphics cards), inappropriate user Preference settings, or connection issues (wireless, funky IPS ...). SL's servers certainly do have issues, especially after software upgrades. Those generally affect people all across the grid at once, however.

  23. No, my method works perfectly. Making it into a HUD is impossible. :smileywink: Some of the third party viewers (Firestorm, for example) have a feature that lets you make your av phantom. As they explain, however, "When the phantom feature is enabled, the actual avatar mesh becomes phantom, but the bounding box does not. This is why phantom avatars cannot move. ... Avatars in phantom mode will not be able to move by the usual means (e.g. arrow keys). However, double-click teleport can be utilized to move without disabling Phantom." This is why you can't do exactly what you want to do. The method I suggested, though, fakes a way around the problem. When you sit on an object, your av becomes a link in the object's linkset, and you can move the entire linkset. That's the way "sit" teleporters work, for example. My little script senses that you are part of a moveable linkset, and lets you take control of it with your arrow keys. It also activates your chosen "walk" animation when you move forward or backward, and it stops it when you let up on the arrow keys. You are not really walking (any more than you are "really" walking at any time in SL), but it gives the appearance that you are. Because the linkset becomes phantom when you do this, it has the extra side effect of making it possible for you to appear to walk through walls.
